Notes about the 'One Song' series:
The idea for the 'One Song' series came about when I was trying to come up with a cool idea for my next EPIC/MEGA amp comparison with around 30 amps. So I came up with the idea of writing a song in multiple styles that would do a good job of 'testing' the versatility of an amp. It would start clean and end with metal. And I thought it could be interesting to use multiple guitars, so one for each section. Then I realised that it would be cool to release each amp's video individually first and when I'm all done I'll upload a compilation that would essentially be similar to all my other mega comparisons, including all the timecodes etc. This will be called: 'One Song, 30 Amps!'.
So that's the plan basically! However, I'm also planning on running the song through some modeling platforms to also demo those and see how well they can work with all the material in the song.
I've chosen to NOT use the same IRs for each segment this time because I want to use cab tones that the amps are 'comfortable' with. So don't view this as a direct comparison of the amps per say, but view it as an amp showcase that also allows you to hear how the amps function inside the song or inside the music, of course in comparison to one another in that sense! This will showcase the uniqueness of the amps more, which is more fun imho, and it also allows me to be a little bit more creative when reamping each amp. Plus: some of you guys will say 'they all sound the same' anyway and the different cab sounds will make the amps sound more interesting and unique!
For the metal segment I'll very likely use a boost pedal for most of the amps, just so you metalheads or djentheads can hear how a downtuned baritone with a boost sounds with the amp.
Anyway, I hope you guys will enjoy this series and I hope I made the song interesting enough to listen to it a couple times (because I don't expect anyone to watch all 30 or more amp videos lol).

@@luca4352 - similar to the Brent Hinds or Jim Root Orange heads perhaps? Those heads have the tightest ‘low gain’ sounds I’ver heard. Interesting because there is the illusion of more gain being present but it’s not... know what I mean? Thanks for the replay

@@oldguyjammin9732 The IRT has a Knob which lets you control the 'sagg' of th sound. It's kinda like a depth knob but it let's you get a really tight bottom end. I haven't played any of these oranges, but you can find a video of the Laney Ironheart 120 fully cranked, staying super tight.
      th-cam.com/video/PgEcyX5DHqA/w-d-xo.html
The gain structure however is pretty different from the oranges in my opinion. The Laney doesn't really 'cut' like a marshall would in the high mids. It's rather grainy sounding and sits really well in a mix.
The Laney has pretty much enough gain for any genre, however, I run mine with a DS-2 infront, which makes it even better.
General advise of mine, If you want a tight sound, use another gainstage infront of it like a Overdrive or Distortion pedal. Even a Dual recto can be made kinda tight using this technique.
I hope this answers you question somehow, if not, feel free to reach back.

@@luca4352 - thanks again very much for getting back. I just always wonder if I’m missing something out there :) I sold my Mesa V because it was SO tight that it seemed to lack feel or character. I run OD pedals in front of my Jet City 22, Engl 20 and others. I’m not after the Toni Iomi (sp?) sound by any means, that’s a bit loose. Just always feel like some amp out there might end up being “perfect” even then because of the law of familiarity after two weeks even the perfect amp will end up ‘meh’ til after a month I try it again and think “DAMN! That sounds Great!”
Thanks again, I think I need to try one of these, they sound interesting :)

The ironheart studio without its onboard boost engaged is remarkably lacking in the gain department imo. Also, I find its almost too tight that it ends up feeling solid stateish in the low end. Perhaps it was tuned to be run with low tuned guitars...

The other thing is that you can play around with tube selection .... affects the sound MAJORLY. Comes with Ruby brand. I went with orig Ruby EL 84s , a Tung Sol 12ax7 and then 2 JJ 12AX7s.
The other thing is that the Reverb is very subtle, perfect for metal. 5 years and NEVER had a problem with this, still discovering so much. This little beast tames my 8 string just fine. I downtune to D standard its great!

you really dropped the ball on even beginning to explain how you used this... are you recording using the 2 channel usb- it can record one track dry and one track eq'd and tubed up right? is there any onboard amp simulation or is that all digital? are you monitoring with a guitar cab in room are you also mixing a live cab. are you using the revamping at all?

    • @nudsh
      @nudsh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Seeing that he shows the IR in each sample, it is clear he is using impulse responses and not a mic'd speaker or cab in the room. Also, it matters not if you use the USB or the DI out, the cab emulation sits in front of this. The USB only gives you the dry re-amp option, the DI is cab emulated output. All of the gain/distortion is the tube pre-amp section in the amp (ecc83's), reverb/delay effects are post in Helix and the overdrive on the metal tones is a pedal in front of the amp.
