      I'm never going back to tube amps. I used to play on an Ampeg SVT-2 Pro with a 8x10" cabinet. I only had troubles: sloppy sound, expensive maintenance, and heavy AF. I got myself a solid state Ampeg and the 4x10 cabinet and have never been happier.

    If Schuldiner, Abbott and Windstein could make a career with transistors, then having tubes is just a matter of preference. ;)

    I've been a tuba amp guy for 40-years (since I was a little child). I hated solid state until around 10-years ago when they began to sound acceptable for some applications. But now, I cannot believe how far that technology has advanced in my lifetime. I had my Engl for the studio and I would have a few cheap amps for rehearsal, or practice. Unsure about this amp, but I bought a Blackstar solid state, as I am a fam of their tube amps, and it just sounds fantastic and I use that in the studio too now. So easy to work with. Nice video dude. Thanks.

      @@FunKaYxxD1sCO Honestly a really great portable amp would be the Yamaha THR series. I had the THR30II and it's tube I believe or a hybrid of given with the app you can control it and access tons of other options. Different effects and change those up. You can also save settings and change how it sounds in regards to what speakers given it uses different IRs. So you could do like a 1x12 or 2x12 or 4x12 kind of sound. Then also switch the kind of speaker being like a Vintage 30 or Creamback or what have you.
      You also don't have to tweak much to get it to sound great. The battery is rechargeable so you can take it with you. It has a USB out for recording and a left and right out to plug into an external speaker. It's also Bluetooth enabled making so you can use it as a speaker or to play along with songs. You can also save your presets and use it as a bass amp as well.
      If you get the Line 6 wireless receiver it'll charge it when it's plugged into the Amp rather than your guitar.
      The Thr10ii does similar things but you can't save your presets and its solid state. But it's till a really great amp with basically the same customization.
      I believe it's the 5 that doesn't have Bluetooth or wireless capabilities. For all of them though you can get a pedal controller. Or at least I believe for all of them.
      As for the Katana MKII 50 which is what I currently have.
      It's absolutely fantastic. You can switch how much wattage you push. Either .5, 25, or 50. If you plug it into your computer through USB you can record as well use the Software on the PC to edit things. It has a very deep customization.
      It's almost as deep as the Helix. You have a big array of different effects to choose from like Acoustic simulation or changing humbuckers to single coils and vice versa. Different kinds of delay as well as deep editing the delay.
      You can also have access to an 8 band eq for your tone. As well as different pedal options for boosters and distortion and so forth.
      You don't have to do much to get great sound out of it. But the options are definitely there.
      So far it's my favorite. However, I wish I would've got my THR30II back. But it is what it is.
      The Yamaha is $500 and the Katana is about $250 I believe. I got mine used at Guitar Center for $180 or so.

    I have a CR120H and a TH100. I love both. My tube driven TH100 has the benefit of more headroom for different/louder situations. The CR120H allows me to jam and record at times I need to keep more quiet, and have used it in some situations that didnt involve huge bass amps and drums, and worked well. Application and knowing what to do with an amp is important. That being said, Orange makes the best solid state and tube amp for me, and I plan to score the Super Crush 100 as well. Thanks for the killer demo !🤘

    I need to try one of these in person. But I can tell you one thing I have learned in decades of playing guitar. The hard thing isn't making an SS amp sound good. Plenty of SS amps have sounded really good. The hard part is making it feel good. Playing through an SS amp is a completely different feel from tube amps. There is none of the give, squish, breath, elasticity or however you want to describe the feel that you get from a tube amp and it's tube power section. Not that it's a good or bad thing. It's just different.

      For around $50 you can get an ART tube mic preamp; put it in the effects loop... You will be amazed at how you suddenly have that feeling, reaction, and the nuanced tonality of the valve, as well as increased volume output! It's been one of the greatest hacks I've discovered.

    • @DarkMatterEclipse
      @DarkMatterEclipse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was about to say something quite similar. Have to try it in person. It's hard to describe, I call it tonal depth and the way a tube amp responds to my playing. To be fair, not all tubes amps have that depth and response either and may as well be solid state. Another thing for me (again, hard to describe) is where your drive/dist and notes/chords respond as one, opposed to sounding as two separate signals combined and the latter I don't like. Tube amps can have that dual sound and especially SS amps. Quality of speakers and cabinet plays a huge role too. I tried a popular brand name tube head with it's matching cab, was unimpressed. Plugged that head into a different cab and it was, oh, there it is, sounds great!. It's a tricky equation, I've heard some quite convincing SS amps but still falls short. Claim after claim over the years, a company claims to have nailed it with SS. If they did, they've shot themselves in the foot with their tube line. Even high end amp modelers that sound usably very good, to me, still falls just short. I'm a tough sell, my ears are tuned to many years of that defining sound I chase....but can't afford LOL....I get very close with my rig. If there's a SS amp that'll cut it, I'm onboard, replacing tubes and filter caps etc is expensive.

    I've seen plenty of demo of this amp, and you are the first one to make it sound good. All the others sounded dull, not enough gain, fizzy at times. But this sounds killer.

    Solid States honestly work just as well for a lot of higher gain genres.
    I really need to get a cab for my teeny Micro Dark, though I wouldn't mind getting a decent Doom flavoured Solid State amp like an old Sunn Beta Lead

    It sounded great, but it was missing some aggressiveness for riffing imo. But that'd likely be easy to fix with a tube screamer or an SD-1, and that'd still be way cheaper than a similar high gain 100 watt tube head, which usually also need a boost or overdrive in front.

    • @KharonYT
      @KharonYT 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let's be honest, you would probably use a tube screamer on most amps regardless

    I got my super crush 100 about six months ago along with a marshall origin 212a vertical cab, with celestion 70/80 speakers and omfg this amp absolutely is a tube amp killer, tube amps are really really good but considering the price difference between this and a big boy tube amp, i prefer this amp above all else. This amp gets insanely loud and holds up really nicely, doesnt fall apart when pushed and can sounds really good at low volumes, you could seriously play anything through the super crush 100, absolute steal in my honest opinion.

  • @teamrisk41

    It seems to have more gain then the crush pro ? I have the pro and can get close to this tone with a good over drive. The argument I make is if you’re playing true doom with a serious fuzz pedal like a darkarts tone work pedal you need tubes to bring out the flavor of the pedal. This sounds great for pure death / melotic metal

    You outta try one of these with a Boss SD-1, it tightens up a lot of that loose low end from the amp, but it also makes it sound even beefier and lets you push the gain on the amp a little bit more to get more saturation from the preamp!
    Really cool little combination I feel like would blow everybody away.

      I generally leave the Master down. On Orange amps pushing the Master tends to push the Mids and low Mids a lot which I don’t like too much. But others for sure will love that sound, especially as it’s louder :)

    You got it right that solid state amps kick ass and they are cheaper. However the service to fix them when they break and they always break is why the tube is a better choice if you like solid equipment. The difference in sound is hard to tell apart. Tube amps will never die.

    I bought this a week ago. It’s better than a 100 watt blackstar tube head I bought so I’m selling the blackstar. This Orange sounds especially good for punk if you put the high at 6, the mid at 3,and the low at 7 with the gain at 7 or 8. Very easy to dial up and sounds amazing
