Lenovo is a lot better of a brand than Asus. I’ve always enjoyed Lenovo products from personal laptops to the ones my work provided me with. Personal preference for sure on the screen. I actually prefer matte finish on displays because I can’t stand glare when using inside businesses or classes.
Yeah Lenovo is awesome at making laptops. You gotta see the new S24 Ultra from Samsung. It's glossy but the panel itself has this new coating on it that makes it less reflective. It's pretty sweet.
I loved legion but my charging jack is barely Working anymore. Overheats etc. We soldered a new one and it comes back. No more Lenovo sadly for me. Need something with different charger design.

The Lenovo I had in college, was the best laptop I've ever had. Hit “purchase” seconds ago lol. How have you liked it so far? Any insight on its performance outside of gaming would be super good to know as well if you have any 🙏
Great video, just one slight detail: top and bottom panels are indeed metal, but the interior is plastic (and the trackpad is too), albeit very high quality one, unlike the pro 9i.
Lenovo makes a really good product. I’ve used them at work and was always impressed. Used to love HP but Lenovo has upped its game so much. I had the legion 5 that was a great rig. Now I have the legion 7i white and it’s an even better machine. Good review.
Love your videos, Mark. Small suggestion (not that you need my help; you are killing it and I've gotten to the point where I watch all your stuff) -- when you mention the brightness and only give 'peak' brightness, it would be helpful if you mention if that is for HDR only or is that the full panel brightness in SDR? I imagine peak brightness is not the brightness of the entire panel, which may be more important to a potential buyer (and definitely to a gamer). So a viewer like me is left wondering what the actual real brightness of the panel is. In fairness, we could just Google it, but it would still be helpful to have that info in the video. Have a great night man.
Hey Foxx!! Thanks so much for the input. I'll definitely take note and put any specs or graphics on screen while talking about the display in future videos. I find it very difficult to give exact numbers just cause not every panel is similar and could vary during production (I've experienced this first hand with other laptops and tablets) so I just give it a general spec number and if I see or notice anything weird, I'll call it out in video whether the display is dim or really bright or if I notice any color shifting or panel issues etc... But I appreciate the feedback 🙏🏼 - the panel on this laptop is awesome and definitely brighter than other IPS panels, about 500 nits sustained. Just wish it was glossy and had OLED.
I wouldn't say that laptop is underrated, since a couple of personal PC gamer friends own that exact same model, and even more want one but can't afford it 🤣
I love my Legion but there is one major problem. What I want to know about these newer models is a list of refresh rates for the display. Mine only has 165hz and 60hz, and that causes a lot of issues where a game gets 60+ but doesn't hit 165 fps. Gysnc doesn't fix everything either. I need something with 120hz option.
Do you recommend a cooling pad for this Lenovo laptop? I'm not a gamer. I'm a Photoshop, 3D image generation and Boris FX user. So need 16GB VRAM for some of those programs and much faster processor than I have now for generative AI apps. I'm interested in the RTX 4090 model. Thx.
2:27. You are saying USBC 3.2 gen2 port and thunderbolt 4 port are same. What I have read in other places is that the former has transfer speed of 20gbps and latter has 40gbps. How they can be same?
I’m currently testing an Asus ROG Strix G18 RTX 4080 and I heard good things about the Pro 7i Gen 9. I decided to order one from Lenovo because after tax it was $2,800 USD for an RTX 4090 with discounts and promo codes. I really enjoy the Asus because of the 18” screen, but I decided that I’d rather sacrifice screen real estate for a better GPU. There aren’t many people covering this laptop, but the ones who have, show the CPU temps as regularly hitting 100c while gaming. That’s my primary concern with this laptop. I don’t care if the fans get very loud as long as the temps are kept in check. Anyway, thanks so much for this review. It’s definitely helping to alleviate my concerns about my purchase.
I haven’t had any issues with thermals personally. I’m always running in performance mode when gaming and yes it can get hot but not to a point where it throttled the system. I guess just make sure the laptop can blow out air from the sides and back and you’ll be good!
@@Elderester My Legion doesn’t arrive until around July 10th, so I can’t test it yet. I do plan on running everything at max settings and highest res when it arrives. I read other reviews with that same laptop configs that stated that the fan noises would still run pretty loud even for just everyday web surfing or light gaming... Also, is the temperature also not that bad? Because same... from what I read, it gets pretty hot, even hotter than most laptops!
It really isn’t! Of course it’s loud but every other 16” gaming laptop I have in the studio is just as loud in performance mode. For everyday things it’s quiet in auto and quiet mode. Temps are fine. Haven’t had throttling issues

Great review. I have the Legion 5 16 with a 4070, it doesn't quite do what I want so I plan to return it and get this 7i pro. Also, am I the only one who doesn't care about fan noise and speaker quality? We all game with noise cancelling headsets right?? lol.
Hi, good video. Just a suggestion: There's no point in including games which have FPS locked, because it doesn't provide much of an insight other than it just runs. I'd include more games which have variable refresh rate.
Hey Mark, great review! I’m a software developer looking for a laptop with high storage, strong performance, good cooling, and decent graphics for occasional heavy tasks. Do you think this laptop would meet those needs?
It will definitely suit you just fine! This laptop is great! If you're looking for something more compact, not necessarily the best for gaming like this laptop but can still definitely game. Look into the new Asus G16 (AMD AI 9 HX370). I'll be reviewing it soon but it's much lighter, great cooling, great design, and can add a second SSD if necessary. Screen is also better since it's OLED.
Man, I'm still torn between the G16 4080 (vapor chamber) and Pro 7i 4080. Btw the G16 actually can do 125w instead of 115w if you really look into it. Maybe the performance desparity is not that massive enough to sacrifice the display, speakers, and portability. Im so frustrated between these two that I might just end up with a thinkpad P1 gen 7 for less performance, but great at everything else and durability unmatched.
@netofloresfoto I'm waiting to see if I can get an AMD version of the G16 in my country at a reasonable price. Otherwise, it's gonna be the pro 7 for me.
thanks a lot for your responses 🙏 , still I have one more question , when im putting balanced mode wich is the recommended plan from win , it gaves me the best results, less temp ans less noise abd more fps unlike in lenovo software the balance +ai mode or performance mode that's giving me 12c more on temp , fps slightly better almost the same and the fan are noise , how it can be ?.
Any chance of reviewing the ASUS ProArt 16 in the near future? I'm in the market for a high powered art/render/game laptop, and I know the ProArt isn't technically marketed as a gaming laptop, but I would love to see a comparison against the Lenovo Legion, Macs, and ASUS Zephyrus. Either way, just found your channel and your reviews are top notch minus all the normal B.S., so thanks for the no-nonsense content!
I think Legion 7i is a solid choice as well.. Can't really go wrong with either. I love the port selection on this more and the slightly better cooling since it's thicker.
Nope played hours of Warzone recently and the palm rest and keyboard doesn’t get hot at all. Fans blow out from the sides and back and do a really good job at keeping the heat away from the palm rest.
No problems, but I recommend expanding the RAM to 64GB and even if you have money, you can install 96GB and it will work. Of course, at a speed of 5200MHz. And in a few years you can connect the eGPU with a new, more powerful graphics card via Thunderbolt 4. So I recommend it.
so hard trying to decide between a msi ge73hx with 96gb but rtx 4070 and this lenovo legion pro....... i travel often so I always need a desktop replacement while working on rendering 3d/ after effects or playing games....Fyi most of my locations are quite hot so cooling is important ..... both are of the same price at the store....so it has been tough decide
Not too familiar with MSI’s offering but the cooling on this Legion Pro 7i has been pretty solid. It’s summer time here now in the US and it’s been able to run its fans at full power and laptop stays cool for hours. If you dock your laptop it’s even better.
I've been testing out the Legion 9i (video coming soon) and this is one is pretty legit for its price. If you are gonna pick this up, feel free to buy it off the link in the description. It helps the channel a lot and can produce more reviews like the Legion 9i.
They already very popular, maybe the most popular gaming laptop brand amongst fans , so I know if they add oled panels they gonna be reigning champs 4 lyfe, hope they add it soon as it’ll make me wanna upgrade with speeeeeed
They don't say that at all. They are just pointing out that they dropped some of the features and quality from the gen 7 versions, and made them cheaper at the same time. The quality is still good. They then decided to place all the bells and whistles in the over priced 9i version.
The Legion Pro 7 (AMD) gets you better battery life than the Intel 7i. I’m also a little disappointed with no Mini-LED or OLED screen, however you can’t get it all and still expect a reasonable price. There’s always the Legion Pro 9 if you want to spend a fortune.
Yeah, I hear AMD is the way to go, but really would love to see an Intel Core Ultra version to see if it’ll fair a bit better. I’m testing a laptop with what I’m looking for so we’ll see. But hoping to get the 9i in the studio soon if it’s worth that price tag.

how come lenovo legion laptops are so popular and loved? i had so many issues with the one i had, i had to replaced my charger and charging port over 5 times in a span of 3 years, and now it cant be fixed any more, a friend of mine also had many issues with it, and even the hinges breaking, i understand they are built "well" and stuff but man i paid over 500€ on fixes for my legion in just 3 years. replacing charger alone each time was over 100€
I think as of late, Legion laptops have gotten better build quality wise, and that's true to most known OEM's nowadays. While not perfect and there could still be flaws per system, I hear Lenovo's support seems to be the best one.
Ive had a 2020 7i model. That thing like fell apart. The hinge breaking and I had to get Lenovo support. so that saved it. But now that I have this Laptop. Its sooo much better in terms of quality. Great video! Just cant decide Msi vector 17 i9 14900 4080 (2024) or this legion 2024?
Legion, i recommend ya to wait black friday, im planning on getting the same u saw on amazon
How long do you think the battery would last with some ai work/video editing?
I'd say 2 hours depending on your screen brightness and performance profile.
great video as always Mark!
I'm in the market for a gaming laptop this was a great review thank you!
Does the glossy vs matte screen making a difference when viewing media?
this or the acer helios 16 with the rtx 4080?
Man, I'm still torn between the G16 4080 (vapor chamber) and Pro 7i 4080. Btw the G16 actually can do 125w instead of 115w if you really look into it. Maybe the performance desparity is not that massive enough to sacrifice the display, speakers, and portability. Im so frustrated between these two that I might just end up with a thinkpad P1 gen 7 for less performance, but great at everything else and durability unmatched.
what did you ended up choosing? I have the same doubts but with the 4090 GPU
@netofloresfoto I'm waiting to see if I can get an AMD version of the G16 in my country at a reasonable price. Otherwise, it's gonna be the pro 7 for me.
Why stopping 17"
Hi - great review! I am thinking now of getting one - can you please help me understand if internal surface (e.g., palm rest) is plastic or metal?
Its plastic my guy. Premium plastic tho. Feels awesome!
thanks a lot for your responses 🙏 , still I have one more question , when im putting balanced mode wich is the recommended plan from win , it gaves me the best results, less temp ans less noise abd more fps unlike in lenovo software the balance +ai mode or performance mode that's giving me 12c more on temp , fps slightly better almost the same and the fan are noise , how it can be ?.
great video bro :) , Does the hot air also come out of the sides of the laptop?
Yeah a bit of hot air from the sides.
Will definitely look into getting that in the studio since I’m super curious how it stacks up against other high end laptops 🙏🏼
I’m also looking to do art and gaming. But I think this laptop/gen 8 would be sufficient
Why are there 2 different versions of the 4080, one priced $2390 the other $2417 after discount? What is the difference???
I think one has Windows 11 Pro (versus Home) hence the smaller price difference.
@@HeyMarkL Ah ok, thank you so much
Does this model have vapour chamber cooling?
Thanks! Can you hear fan noise in quiet mode?
You mention 100% DCI-P3 but their website shows 100% SRGB with no mention of DCI-P3
Should i go for this or the 2024 legion 7i (4070,32gb, 14900hx)
I think Legion 7i is a solid choice as well.. Can't really go wrong with either. I love the port selection on this more and the slightly better cooling since it's thicker.
Still using Legion 7i from 2020 , still going strong but soon I will upgrade to 7i gen 9 or maybe 9i
Will check out the 9i Gen9 in the near future. Stay tuned!
If you want to save money, get gen 8. it's pretty much exact same performance
@@joshuam4993thanks man I will look into it
What about keyboard and palm rest temperature while load? Is it hot to touch?
Nope played hours of Warzone recently and the palm rest and keyboard doesn’t get hot at all. Fans blow out from the sides and back and do a really good job at keeping the heat away from the palm rest.
What the hell? Mine gets crazy hot when playing Battlefield 4 on Ultra..
@@HeyMarkL what's your warzone fps?
If this was mini led...it will be so cool
Do you know if on the slim version we can upgrade the graphic card ?
You can get up to a 4070 on that one.
Nice review man ! The video is chill good job 👍🏾 subbed!
Anyone use this laptop for blender/unreal engine? Any issue when you use this laptop for some heavy 3D rendering??
Go with the Lenovo. They have a much better reputation overall and this laptop has received great reviews across the board.
I hope the 7i has 4080 version .. id like a sleek design not bulky
This vapour chamber heat sink version accumulates lots of dust
im finally updating my 12 year old asus n56vm for this
Should I buy this one or legion 9i?
I've been testing out the Legion 9i (video coming soon) and this is one is pretty legit for its price. If you are gonna pick this up, feel free to buy it off the link in the description. It helps the channel a lot and can produce more reviews like the Legion 9i.
@@HeyMarkL I'll wait for your video
As far as sound quality goes the G6 stumps all over this thing.
They already very popular, maybe the most popular gaming laptop brand amongst fans , so I know if they add oled panels they gonna be reigning champs 4 lyfe, hope they add it soon as it’ll make me wanna upgrade with speeeeeed
Oh I know they’re super popular. But I also think they’ll wipe the competition once OLED gets here 👌🏼
Oled and still a shiny screen... no thanks, I prefer mini LED
Why do so many reviewers complain that it's build quality is terrible and materials are cheap, while you claim otherwise?
Maybe they expect something like Apple’s build quality. I have no problems with mine.
@@HeyMarkL if you had to recommend one, would you recommed this specific pro 7i, or a rog zephyrus g14 with the 4070?
They don't say that at all. They are just pointing out that they dropped some of the features and quality from the gen 7 versions, and made them cheaper at the same time. The quality is still good.
They then decided to place all the bells and whistles in the over priced 9i version.
Great video
If only they've had 18" mini-led version of it...
Nothing like a Legion
Did you play cyberpunk with ray tracing on?
I did play with Ray Tracing and frames were in the 40s sometimes 50’s and with DLSS. It jumped to around 60-70
Bought mine with a 4080 for around 2600$. It works great and all. But it temperatures aint that good. And it stutters from time to time when gaming. Super frustrating
Weird, I haven’t had issues with stuttering and have played games for 2-3hrs straight.
that's not normal. What bios version are you using?
Also, try undervolting
You need to learn how to setup a computer. It's not a console it requires tweaking and some actual knowledge to use.
@@TravisTheSavageactually if you were nicer you will learn that a lot of customers got issues with stuttering on legion gen 9 (google stuttering-legion...).. But the latest bios update seemed to have fix it. No need to be all judgmental and rude . We don't need more than that on the internet . Hopefully the guy got his issues fixed :)
Switch to dGPU mode in Lenovo Vantage. Fixed all stuttering for mine.
it looks so good in retail stores, but the 45 minute battery life would be terrible. Kudos to MacBook Pro on that front.
I know it killed me lol 😂 but plugged in this thing is a monster!
Hi, thanks for video! Please do a review on Dream Machines RG4070
Nice, review. Other reviewers butter up laptops too much. I just got this one. This laptop also has an AI chip. Do you know how to use that AI Chip? I want to use it for content-creation power saving on various intensive programs(video editing, ai upscaling, modeling)
gimmick, does nothing.
@@jlb4685 i've read it helps a tad bit with easing off cpu processing power.
@@jlb4685maybe it will with firmware updates? But yeah that doesn't nothing but marketing
New PC/Laptop gamer so dumb question coming lol if I play games while the charger is plugged, will it mess up the battery? What’s the solution?
No. Batteries aren’t like that anymore. Software will also help with the battery concerns. Limiting power to just 80% sometimes.
But it's not "maxed out" - you got the 4080, not the 4090.
guys any other suggestions for laptops with rtx 4080?
Other than overpriced razer blade or g16 i don't see
Nothing compare with gen 6 and gen 7 to be honest from lenovo legion 7 when it comes to build quality.
They need to bring back that design.
I still try to find a gen 7 with 3080 ti, lol.
I saw one on france but idk.. 3080ti nowadays isn't a bit .. outdated so to speak? I know it would run games but?
@@bryce2fadeway but what? I can run everything at ultra on a 2k monitor with a ryzen 5800h and a rtx 3070.
The 40 series is still expensive, and the build quality is not worth the money.
@@ChillYeti interesting. Thing is in France we dont have as much choices of finding all pc models... if i come up with a 3080ti it will be probably second-hand.. and would be the same price almost as a 40 series... thats why the but... for ex you would still find a legion 7 3080 at 1700€ or more.. so why not go directly with a Legion 7I 9th gen brand new at 1900 if you feel me
@@bryce2fadeway Depends of the price, i got mine for 1100 euro brand new 1 year ago.
@@ChillYeti again that's why I said I'm in France ;) we don't have as much as choices unfortunately. Actually it's a mess in a lot of countries to get our hands on valuable products. We don't have best buy or wtv
how come lenovo legion laptops are so popular and loved? i had so many issues with the one i had, i had to replaced my charger and charging port over 5 times in a span of 3 years, and now it cant be fixed any more, a friend of mine also had many issues with it, and even the hinges breaking, i understand they are built "well" and stuff but man i paid over 500€ on fixes for my legion in just 3 years. replacing charger alone each time was over 100€
I think as of late, Legion laptops have gotten better build quality wise, and that's true to most known OEM's nowadays.
Very solid. Only thing to watch out is the large vent holes. I accidentally put a USB A into a vent hole rather then port. xD
Legion 7i 2024 or pro5i
7i
Intel 9 ultra performance < intel i9 14900hx in term of power
OLED screen is not good for creators - photography
Legion design is for gaming not for power saving or battery life!!!
Do you want batery life? Go to Apple!
Wait for Intel😮 15gen or even later for a good compromise between fps - power and battery life!
Yeah, This laptop is a "Desktop replacement" or "Mobile Desktop PC" meaning, treat this laptop as a plug in and use. and use its battery like a UPS power supply.
Imagine a laptop hiccuping 💀💀💀
Blud is sponsored by lenovo 💀
bro I wish I was paid by Lenovo 😭
I feel like its a bit of a slap in the face to just call this a gaming laptop. Anyone with the funds and credit to purchase such a laptop isn't playing video games 24/7
😆 right! This is my crypto, programming, planning, audio/visual editing, and university all in one. I don’t game at all.
Asus laptops, screen blocking exhaust.
Way too overpriced for what u get..
its $2000 B and H Photo
Yes that's a black Friday sale. It won't last.
Only Ryzen...
this is one lazy ass laptopto name it gen 9, it's a gen 8 with a slightly better cpu.
45 minutes lol
