True but I think it depends tbh. For instance, if buy a laptop with a 4070 but only game at 1080p, then it's worth it tbh. But if you want to go 1440p and 4k then yes the 4060 and 4070 are useless. Better go for 4080 at that point. 4090 is honestly a ripoff if anything

Got a 4080 Legion and it's been running like a dream. The big thing here is that I didn't see any games where the 4090 really made a playable difference, so imo not worth the price bump of an entire new console unless you're using it as a workstation too. Once my 4080 starts showing its age in the coming years I'd probably be happier getting a new machine with the latest and greatest mobile CPU and 16+ gb card rather than hanging on to a several year old machine with a 4090m.
We'll see how much the extra 4gigs of VRAM matter in the coming years I suppose ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    3:00 it's all physics, since Powerconsumption of transistors = frequency * Voltage² + C.
So higher frequency at the same voltage leads to more powerconsumption, hence the 4080 draws more power in general for the same task, while the 4090 can spread the workload on more units that run slower.
And that's why undervolting a tiny bit gives you huge boosts in temperature, noise and longer boost durations, since it's squared in the equation. Hope all people reading this consider to slightly undervolt their GPUs - I reduced my mobile 3080 to 925mV @ 1900MHz and reach desktop clocks with 100W less power consumption than the desktop chip of my card (3070 Ti) at nearly the performance for just 1hr of work.

CUDA cores in graphics cards are beneficial for specific work tasks, but they are unrelated to gaming. Having 16GB of video memory requires more power than having 12GB. As a result, there is less power available for the actual chip, which can result in a loss of performance.

@@aspeartrevis6306 wait, what do you mean they are unrelated to gaming? then what actually drives gaming performance? And if they are so niche, why include so many if them and in every GPU? Cuda cores gotta take a lot of space on a GPU.

At this point, I can surely state that this 40 series generation is basically a test from Nvidia to see if they can get more money by selling upper high end graphics cards with better price/performance than their lesser low end cards with significant price bumps. If people keep buying their higher end due to p/p number then they just started a new trend and soon will become a new norms for the market. All of their low and mid tier cards now can only be described as decoys. And the number doesn’t have to be a huge hit for them to execute this plan. All they need is a stable enough number and they’ll keep doing it and telling other gaming developers to increase their graphic requirements every year to match their high end cards so that you’ll have to purchase it just to get a 60 fps experience.

In my opinion, 4090 is not worth it unless you need the extra vram. Then again, 12 vs 16 is not as much as a difference than 8 vs 16 with the 3080 laptop and 3080ti laptop.
Edit: When I bought my Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7 3080ti during Black Friday 2022 for $3050, I wasn't expecting that the price of the 4090 Lenovo Legion to be $3200 when on sale; the 4090 laptops were rumored to be at least $4000. I am still happy with the one I got.
The 16gb VRAM is helpful when running complex 3D animations in Blender and Star Wars Battlefront II (which uses 13gb of VRAM). Runs all games I play at 60fps at maximum settings, but does struggle to run Horizon Zero Dawn at 120fps.

dear jarrod, i am a true fan of you channel and always a well-wisher from bangladesh. i recently even ordered a laptop lenovo legion 5 pro which i found from your gaming deal website. absolutely love your content. Just a small advice, your videos are very informative, but they can get a bit monotonous to watch with all the benchmarks and all. I will only watch them whole if I'm buying that specefic laptop; otherwise, I skip. My advice is when showing the laptops gaming benchmarks, please show the game footages too. this will definitely help with cutting down the monotonous tone and make watching your videos more enjoyable. Also, a visualization of the difference in performance is more effective somehow, I felt that watching some other videos which does this.
All the best and please keep making more videos. your comments and judgements are very trustworthy and please never lose that.

Glad I seen this video and see that a upgrade to the 4090 from a 4080 just isnt worth the cost for 90% of gamers. Loving this new x16 that I bought on marketplace being only a couple months old with a full warranty for $1900! Games even at 5120x1440 on my Samsung G9 ultrawide place smooth as glass!

I have an msi titan gt77 with a 4080 in it. On release, the 4090 was marked up an additional 500 dollars on most retailers from MSRP or close to $1500 total. Nice to know I’m only missing out on about 9 frames in most games I play, given that 4k on both GPUs are going to most likely not be played without DLSS or some settings dialed down. I connect to a 1440p higher refresh screen at home anyway. Which I still think is the sweet spot for laptops for a while. I think the 4090 isn’t worth it for most people. It is probably worth it if you are getting a cheaper model than the msi titan - and don’t care about micro LED screens, mechanical keyboards, and the massive cooling solutions some of these laptops offer at the higher price tag. Thanks for the vid!

    • @jeremymatthew6626

With that said a 4080 over a 4070 is massively more worth it! It seems like the wins for this gen are the 4080 on the top end and 4060 on the mid tier in performance leaps.

@@ifuckinghatebarking I need more than 12gb of vram so the 4090 is something that I would be getting since I'm already gaming with ray tracing in native 4k with hdr on, v sync off and motion blur off, unlimited fps if it's available in the game and dlss off. I cranked the graphics to there highest settings while using as much vram as possible for every game that I play lol. If there was a mod to force a game to have ray tracing even if the game never had ray tracing I would apply ray tracing every time. I really hope more games use unreal engine 5 but have the graphics intensity of crysis remastered with can it run crysis mode. Crysis remastered with can it run crysis mode in every graphics settings as my reference when I game in 4k with rtx enable, dlss turned off as well and experimental rtx boost enabled. I really hope new games looks exactly visual fidelity and quality like the gran turismo movie in native 4k with hdr, dolby vision and ray tracing. If more games has a graphics settings can it run crysis mode, I would enable it every time. I love 4k and high fidelity visuals when gaming and watching movies. I wonder how the games would look like with 4k with ar and vr without needing a headset like 3d tvs without needing the 3d glasses but with vr and ar instead. Like headset less version of ar and vr but in 4k when gaming and ray tracing. Like it would feel like you in the space suit and you are on mars but you are gaming in 4k instead without needing to use a vr and ar headset since it would a version that does not need a headset to play games in ar and vr since its headset less version. You basically just need a 4k tv and very powerful pc to make the game feel like you are actually part of the game and you can interact and be part of the action happening in the game. For example, when someone is passing a basketball in a game and the basketball pops up on the screen, you feel like you are actually touching the basketball and you just wanna grab the basketball and shoot the basketball. It would be like 4k realism mode like having motion activated sensors built in a pc or 4k tv. You would be making the mimicking the motions of a game and than the actions happen in real time but in a video game settings. I'm leaning towards the eon-17x gaming laptop since it has the Intel i9-11900k desktop cpu in it with 4 nvme ssd slots and a removable battery with 2 power bricks with each power brick being 280 watts each. I just wish the eon-17x has a 4k mini led display with 1,000 nits and a 4090 while having an updated Intel i9-13900k desktop cpu instead of the Intel i9-11900k desktop cpu for using msi afterburner. The only thing that I like about the msi gt77 titan is the 4k mini led display but the lack of a desktop cpu is what I'm after on a gaming laptop.
