I had an unbelievable opportunity to purchase the new G16 with an AMD Ryzen AI HX 370, 4070, and 32GB of RAM only for $1,232. The retailer in Bulgaria mistakenly changed the price, and all units sold out in a day. I still can't believe it happened, but I saved more than 50% on this laptop. It's definitely the deal of the year for me! 🎉
Im owning the G16 with 32GB RAM and the 4070 for a couple of months now! Working and gaming on it. Using it on battery for browsing and watching video is just aweome. 7 hours with a 75% max charge enabled. I love this machine :) Thnx for the video
I'd pick the G16 for the screen alone. I'm confused why Lenovo offer the oled on their 14 inch legion but not their 16 inch. The difference between OLED and IPS is night and day.
The OLED is enough of a reason to pick the g16 over the legion. The fact that it's thinner, lighter, has better battery life, better speakers, etc just makes it even more appealing than the legion.
@@evansafrifa6396better middleground would be the mini-LEDs on other asus models. They look way better than regular ips, are more durable than OLED, and the brightness for HDR is gaming is actually almost best in class (for the 2024 models with more dimming zones).

As a student I will say that you don't need a big screen on the go. Getting any 14 inch option and docking it when home is probably best. Touchscreens are also a must in collage, if you have the money for it the ideal setup is some sort of 2 in 1 paired with an egpu or a mini PC for home use. You may even get good milage out of the igpu if you turn down the settings. Unless you really like the idea of going to other people's dorms and common areas to game or the major requires GPU performance on the go don't waste money on the g16

That looks like the price when it was brand new. Unless you really like that model and the previous owner never used it it is probably not a good deal.
Please make a video about Intel 13/14th gen cause I'm exhausted of explaining to others that laptops are not as vulnerable due to much lower voltages than desktops.
When everyone started taking about the issues I was very worried about being affected with my m16, but nobody really talked about the laptops. I did a lot of research, but found nothing definitive. Didn’t help that I am still relatively new to this field. I did research over multiple weeks and hoped that some trustable source could cover it, but I got nothing. I had to accept the “It seems to be less of an issue but laptops might still be affected” answer, which is all I found online. At some point I stopped looking. But upon reading this comment, of all things, I finally have a reply to give me peace of mind. So yea, I personally would have really appreciated the info and an explanation as to why it’s the case.
so basically- if u want more performance get the legion and if u want better battery life and portability, get the zephyrus. honestly both laptops compete really well. i personally would go for asus cuz battery life matters a lot to me.
A great video! I would appreciate a comparison between G16 and Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i, as it is a better match for G16 because it also has a Core Ultra processor, an RTX 4070 option, and better speakers.
i'm in zephyrus team here... sincerely besides the slightly better performance on the legion i don't see much of an issue. Better battery, slightly better screen, better sound system, better portability, slightly better I/O. The upgradability option is a nice to have on the legion, but not a big deal to me, since i and as probably most of the potential buyers won't buy it having that specific purpose in mind.
Lenovo always has great sales. In fact, I just bought the Legion 7i with 4060 in Glacier White a few days ago at a good price and double Lenovo Rewards.
I have G16 4060 32Gb Ultra9 version. G16 has perfect Oled screen with perfect anti-reflection coating. After gaming on this screen , you will never think about IPS again. It is another level of experience. And I can compare with Lenovo Slim 5 14" oled - G16 is in another league too. Slim 5 OLED has no coating and is highly reflective. Unusable - in my opinion. G16 has just the right level of anti-reflection so in is not noticeable in practice. I cannot praise it highl enough. And , in Silent mode, G16 is very quiet . Again, quiter than Lenovo (which has amd ryzen 7 7840has ), and has lower temps too.
@@HyBlock I know. As I said, once you get GOOD oled, plain ips is no longer an option . So I compared with another OLED I had. BTW, another crucial advantage of oled over IPS - you don't have to worry about screen leaks. This is almost universal defect on all IPS which can totally break it. This IPS "feature" haunted me for many years.
@@HyBlock Very few IPS panels are free from this defect. Very visible in the dark on dark screen. Patches of uneven brightness at the edges usually. Some of the asus laptops are especially bad. I had one Lenovo legion 5 17" which was nearly perfect thou. But it is hard to find one.
G16 is for me. Simply can't let the battery life go for toss. I was using the 2020 Acer Predator Helios 300 with i7 and rtx 2060 and it was probably one of the most value for money laptop but the battery could last only for like 2 hours in low brightness, 60hz, and system set to best efficiency. And apart from battery the weight was too much, it was 2.3 kgs, initially i thought i could manage but daily travel from college to my room with laptop and charger was not convenient. Battery is equally as important as performance and Value for money proposition in my honest opinion.
Some things just don’t make it into reviews. I’ve grown increasingly dissatisfied with Asus build quality. I would encourage everyone to go with Lenovo, and if you are interested in the smaller 14 inch form factor that Asus is famous for, Lenovo does it too, without being an oven like the G14.
I'd get the G16 for increased portability. I have the slim 7i and it's great but losing half a kg would make carrying it around with me that little bit easier.
9:31 FYI It's also pretty irritating if you want immersion. In my LOQ I used a punching machine and black tape to put a circle on the center for, but it's probably going to be more tricky for the circle, as it would also interfere with fingerprint scanner
Just ordered the G16 laptop. I needed portability and efficiency. I mainly use Geforce Now for gaming so that OLED panel is going to be amazing with an RTX 4080 desktop.
Could you compare the G16 to the Yoga Pro 9i 16" ? Similar specs, in particular the same CPU. Also comparison between Oled of G16 and Mini-Led of Yoga would be interesting.
Please review the Acer Triton 17x. There have not been any good reviews about it and it is available for around 2200 usd on ebay with rtx 4090, 64gb ram, and a 2tb ssd.
What a coincidence! I was just shopping earlier today for a 16'' laptop, and bam, here's a video by one of the best reviewers on two of the candidates. I must say I prefer the G16 in every other way, but the soldered memory is an immediate deal breaker. Can't have that. But I must also acknowledge, having just handled the G16 at an Asus booth, it is an incredibly compact device for the power it carries. So I understand why they chose to compromise on this front. Also gives me a bit more appreciation of why some manufacturers are pushing for the new flat-mount RAM formfactor (forgot its name).
The 2024 Zephyrus models are great. I have a Zephyrus duo 16 (2023 model) and am very impressed with what asus managed to do in such a slim form factor. The G16 looks just as good, more portable and with an amazing OLED. The tradeoff is that the power envelope is a bit nerfed overall, although it doesn't matter on 4070 and 4060 models as the cards are hyperefficient and maintain the same performance even at lower wattages. The 4080 (and 4090) not so much, which is where you want a full size gaming laptop.
Hi Jarod, what battery bank would you recommend for gaming laptops, particularly ones that are higher end? Not for gaming on them but just browsing and watching videos. Thanks
Hello Jarrod , in future reviews to show FPS in games maybe you could also show results with RTX or DLSS as these are feature I would pay for and would be interested to see how modern game devs add the features for. Thank you
my issue with ASUS is their keyboards. Their fonts and layout absolutely suck! They go for a slim sleek discrete design and yet as soon as you open up it just looks like a generic gaming laptop. Also, I've found that going through about 3-6 hours straight of class at university per day with the Lenovo Legion 7i i9-14900HX RTX 4070 lasts fine when in quiet mode for me at least. Also, nowadays it's not too hard to have a plug everywhere. I mean, even airplanes have ports nowadays so I don't think it's as big of concern for most customers. Overall though, I'm sure people will be happy with their choice since they're getting either laptop because it satisfies their specific issues. My only gripe with the Legion 7i is not having a RTX 4080 option. The RTX 4080 Laptop GPU is definitely the best bang for your buck when it comes to wattage in laptops. The cooling is so great already and the fan noise is very good so idk why they couldn't get it working.
I got a very good deal on 4080 msi vector. Yes fans can be annoying but the performance for the price is mind blowing. Plus when you got headset you cant hear the fan noise. Cheapest 4080 to buy
Personally I'd do the g16, if I'm buying a performance machine in 2024 it needs at least 32gb OOTB anyways. And I definitely like the bigger touchpad, better speakers, OLED panel, and battery life/efficiency over a couple frames, for a laptop.
Why have you never reviewed the Acer Predator Helios 16 with 4080 (only 18 version). This laptop is always discounted and very good value just wondered if theres something wrong with this model.
Soldered ram is a big negative, and I’d prefer a bit more power but also like the portability. OLED is a must for me. I would go G16. On the other hand I’m curious what the M16/G16 may bring in 2025….
@@joshpeck9266 the 2025 g16 is just the 2024 model, but with the new CPU. Everything else is identical. It does not have the new, cool kind of ram (the lpcamm2 standard)
I was shocked when I saw the rtx4090 on the G16 was only connected by 8 lanes of pcie3.0 must be a CPU limitation not a huge deal for a thin and light laptop I guess. I ended up returning one because of the terrible stuttering and performance when unplugged from power.
As someone whos had both lenovo and asus product.... Im never buying an asus again. Form factor and specs for asus look great on paper but in practice it's terrible. These reviews never bring up the long term quirks the laptops come with
witch one should i buy im really stuck in between. (for some clearance i love gaming with my laptop but watching movies with loved ones and friends is also a huge part of the purchase i have been using a thinkpad and looking for an upgrade. im really stoked about the oled screen and speakers of the G16 but the white look for the legion and the upgradeability so witch one should i buy?)
Both laptops are available in white and dark, white costs more though, not sure if it varies by region. But that's personal preference, I've got nothing else to add than what's in this video really. Of course movies will be better with the G16 for the reasons you say though.
Hey Sir ! This is the most recent video regarding Zephyrus tech , and my question was .. are there any models that will be released this year or in 2025 ?
for me personally its thr G16 because i need it as a work laptop too and use it mainly on the couch and I travel. I would have got a macbook pro m3 but the pixel response time is 25ms!!! Thats why I'm looking at the OLED on the G16 with good battery life too to last most of the day.
What an awesome review, thank you. would appreciate if anyone can share their experience if the trackpad position to the left on the legion is annoying to work with or not 🙏🏻

Thank you, man. I'm thinking about getting the 3080ti pre-owned but it costs 1700$ is that a good deal?
@@mr.potatohead3870 you have to compare with newer model in your place, in mine tho, with 1700$ equivalent, i could get a newer 40 series legion 7i
That looks like the price when it was brand new. Unless you really like that model and the previous owner never used it it is probably not a good deal.
I always couldn't decide over those two laptops, but now I know which one to choose. Cheers mate.🎉
These two are literally my only options this year. Also, Jarrod just talking and leaning on his desk actually makes the G16 wobble, bruh.
Please make a video about Intel 13/14th gen cause I'm exhausted of explaining to others that laptops are not as vulnerable due to much lower voltages than desktops.
Intel put something out saying laptops weren’t affected, doesn’t really seem worth a video
Why do you bother explaining? People will pick whatever they want to, at the end of the day. Just let them be man. Jeez!
@@JarrodsTecha post at least
@@JarrodsTechhow about actak voltages on Desktop CPUs vs laptop ones ? A comparison & performance differences could be interesting....😮
so basically- if u want more performance get the legion and if u want better battery life and portability, get the zephyrus. honestly both laptops compete really well. i personally would go for asus cuz battery life matters a lot to me.
A great video! I would appreciate a comparison between G16 and Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i, as it is a better match for G16 because it also has a Core Ultra processor, an RTX 4070 option, and better speakers.
@@aras_aras_aras_aras I would avoid the yoga due to the power button. Salemntechsports has a video about it. It breaks and is impossible to replace.
i'm in zephyrus team here... sincerely besides the slightly better performance on the legion i don't see much of an issue. Better battery, slightly better screen, better sound system, better portability, slightly better I/O. The upgradability option is a nice to have on the legion, but not a big deal to me, since i and as probably most of the potential buyers won't buy it having that specific purpose in mind.
Thanks mate this helped alot im getting the g16 next week. Thanks alot
did you bought the laptop and how it is
@@KINGABREVEye I bought it and it's really nice. It has good battery life, speakers and the OLED which the Lenovo doesn't have
Lenovo always has great sales. In fact, I just bought the Legion 7i with 4060 in Glacier White a few days ago at a good price and double Lenovo Rewards.
would you still choose the legion 7i even if compared to the Ryzen version of the G16? im deciding between these two options
Legion wins imo, best with an AMD processor, have a Legion 5 Pro and it's amazing by all standards. Zephyrus soldered memory is just horrible.
Jarrod is it risky to go for the asus because of the OLED screen? In the long term i mean
I was feeling like watching a great movie during the video. Thanks for the excellent work Jarrod.
I picked the G16 with RTX 4090. I absolutely love it!
Watched the whole video, very well explained and edited 👍
Edit, Bought the legion 7i gen 9 and it should be here in a couple days
Makes me wonder what a Legion 7 in that beautiful chassis and excellent cooling would look like with Core Ultra or Ryzen.
The video is not about the slim.
@@Aleksandr-ke7gy and OLED has burn-in. Never had any "screen leaks" btw
If you want a good screen but relatively weaker performance then g16 is good otherwise legion is much better ❤
They're both a waste of money with that POS 4070 in them...save yourself $500 and get a good 4060 laptop, it will only be about 10% slower.
Yeah either 4060 or just jump to 4080
@@reven06 4090
The Legion 7i also has configuration for a RTX 4060 if you didn’t know, definitely much cheaper compared to the zephyrus g16
Pos?
Some things just don’t make it into reviews. I’ve grown increasingly dissatisfied with Asus build quality. I would encourage everyone to go with Lenovo, and if you are interested in the smaller 14 inch form factor that Asus is famous for, Lenovo does it too, without being an oven like the G14.
I'd get the G16 for increased portability. I have the slim 7i and it's great but losing half a kg would make carrying it around with me that little bit easier.
9:31
FYI It's also pretty irritating if you want immersion.
In my LOQ I used a punching machine and black tape to put a circle on the center for, but it's probably going to be more tricky for the circle, as it would also interfere with fingerprint scanner
hi jarrod we love you man
Just ordered the G16 laptop.
Watching this video happily with my g14 with 32gb R9 & 4060 :D
What do you expect for the next year's model? I hope it gets Thunderbolt 5 and a touchscreen.
Well done faceoff comparison👍
Yeah, lpcamm I huge. My hope is that it catches on and we can achieve g16 form factors with no compromises
Does this bios support undervolting?
Thank you for your reviews they're the best
The 2024 Zephyrus models are great.
I have a Zephyrus duo 16 (2023 model) and am very impressed with what asus managed to do in such a slim form factor.
The G16 looks just as good, more portable and with an amazing OLED. The tradeoff is that the power envelope is a bit nerfed overall, although it doesn't matter on 4070 and 4060 models as the cards are hyperefficient and maintain the same performance even at lower wattages.
The 4080 (and 4090) not so much, which is where you want a full size gaming laptop.
I bought the g16 already and I love it
I personally would choose Lenovo Legion 7i. Love the series.
I'm waiting to see what Lenovo does with the HX370 and an RTX 4080 or 4090.
I prefer the Leigon in almost every aspect but would choose the G16 just because of the screen.
Hi Jarod, what battery bank would you recommend for gaming laptops, particularly ones that are higher end? Not for gaming on them but just browsing and watching videos. Thanks
I can't understand in america is 1700 dollars and in europe 2700 euro like 3000+ dollars same models are 80% more expensive
Must be a combination of higher taxes and distribution greed.
Basically, it is not supposed to available in your region, someone imported it.
Does not include sales tax in the US
Hello Jarrod , in future reviews to show FPS in games maybe you could also show results with RTX or DLSS as these are feature I would pay for and would be interested to see how modern game devs add the features for. Thank you
my issue with ASUS is their keyboards.
Video starts at 21:58
The numeric keypad is a showstopper for me, I prefer no numeric keypad and centered trackpad, so I’d choose the Zephyrus.
I got a very good deal on 4080 msi vector. Yes fans can be annoying but the performance for the price is mind blowing. Plus when you got headset you cant hear the fan noise. Cheapest 4080 to buy
If you buying Lenovo Legion, just buy a Thinkpad P-series
Personally I'd do the g16, if I'm buying a performance machine in 2024 it needs at least 32gb OOTB anyways.
And I definitely like the bigger touchpad, better speakers, OLED panel, and battery life/efficiency over a couple frames, for a laptop.
Why have you never reviewed the Acer Predator Helios 16 with 4080 (only 18 version). This laptop is always discounted and very good value just wondered if theres something wrong with this model.
If not the oled, definitely would go with zephyrus. That big weight difference is a no brainer
Soldered ram is a big negative, and I’d prefer a bit more power but also like the portability. OLED is a must for me. I would go G16. On the other hand I’m curious what the M16/G16 may bring in 2025….
It just seems to replace the chip. Sadly no lpcamm on it.
@@davitdavid7165 I don’t understand anything u said bro?
@@joshpeck9266 the 2025 g16 is just the 2024 model, but with the new CPU. Everything else is identical. It does not have the new, cool kind of ram (the lpcamm2 standard)
@@davitdavid7165 2025 isn’t out I’m hoping for the NVIDIA 5000 series GPUs on G16 or M16 2025
@@davitdavid7165 what type of ram is that tho?
(by the way my name is glacier in another language so that would be cool to own)
Both laptops are available in white and dark, white costs more though, not sure if it varies by region. But that's personal preference, I've got nothing else to add than what's in this video really. Of course movies will be better with the G16 for the reasons you say though.
Hey Sir ! This is the most recent video regarding Zephyrus tech , and my question was .. are there any models that will be released this year or in 2025 ?
I hope you do more reviews on latest amd powered laptops. I want to see how do they compare with intel both productivity and gaming workloads.
Not a fan of the updated spec of the G16. I know he Ultra CPU is efficient, but the 14900hx is so much better IMO, and makes the Legion my choice.
All Asus stuff I got in the past is now dead.
Lenovo Legion still running. Let's see what happens when warranty finishes.
I will pick the Lenovo Legion 7i for it upgradability....
and also i dont know the longevity of OLED display which is a turn off for me
22:23 *Happy Lenovo Legion owner noises*
lol
Legion for the win!
for me personally its thr G16 because i need it as a work laptop too and use it mainly on the couch and I travel.
I would have got a macbook pro m3 but the pixel response time is 25ms!!! Thats why I'm looking at the OLED on the G16 with good battery life too to last most
of the day.
With Asus support, I’ll never buy their products till customers are happy with after sale support
Really good in depth video
Basically theyre both really good and you shouldn't stress between which one you bought/ are looking to buy too much
Lenovo definitely, if the RAM ever dies, you can just swap out, soldered memory is a dead board that could keep you out of the system of weeks....
@@Eragon_RH they are both expensive and have problems. It matters to know which problems you are choosing to deal with as you purchase one
What an awesome review, thank you.
would appreciate if anyone can share their experience if the trackpad position to the left on the legion is annoying to work with or not 🙏🏻
Trackpad to the left is pretty common on laptops. I haven't had any issues with it while testing many laptops.
