After much back and forth and research and getting out of my own head to have the most flagship device I decided on one of these. Looks like a great laptop. A few months ago, I bought an Acer Predator Helios 300 with an RTX 3070, i7 12700H, and 1440p 165hz IPS screen for $930. I was debating whether or not to go for it since the parts are 1-2 generations old, but there hasn't been much improvement on the CPU or GPU side in that price range. Overall I'm very happy with it, the most demanding game I play is Elden Ring, and it maintains 60 fps at 1440p max settings (no RT) in 95% of cases. Picked this exact laptop up a few weeks ago. Glad it got your stamp of approval! Do you have a recommendation for a 140W USB-C charger? Looking for one to keep in my backpack.
I dunno why i should take this one instead of the new Yoga 9. You get a full aluminum body, a better mini LED high contrast ratio 1200 nits display and much better battery life in low performance tasks (Core Ultra CPU). Thoughts?
Depends what you need. Sounds like the Yoga will be better for you; this machine will be better for people prioritising performance over efficiency/battery.
hi dear friend i just bought the omen 16 Transcend with the following specs: i7 13700 HX 16 cores 24 thread , 16GB RAM , screen IPS near to Qled 165 Hz refrech rate and 400 nits with 100 SRGB, RTX 4060 8GB , 1000 GB SSD NVME 4 and battery 97 mA about 9 hours of battery life, but it is and exellent LAPTOP PC i bought it for 2500 dollars

Great review Jarrod So im contemplating to buy between Legion 7i and Zephyrus G16. Would like to know which is great value for its spec? My research show is either 7i (Upgradability & Performance) VS G16 (OLED & Built Quality/Design) User review show G16 run quite loud and hot during normal task. Would appreciate comments on these 2 products since it would cost 1999 usd to get these upgrades. *coming from Lenovo Y510p 660 USD @ 2013😂. Thanks
First laptop to make me justify a purchase since 2013. Laptops were so underpowered compared to desktops before. The fact that a 14900hx is similar to a 12700k in performance is crazy.
I'd rather save bit more for a Scar16..with an RTX4080 comparatively cheaper than others. Also , they're having better display than even legion 7 pro series. So good balance for me I think😅 What do u think sir?
I like it, but It's interesting that you are picking a laptop with a 4070. I am on the fence between a 4070 and a 4080 for a laptop for video editing and some gaming.
Thanks for the review! I'm debating between this legion 7i and the Yoga Pro 9i. I don't play the most demanding games but i do play rdr or fifa after work for a few hours and on weekends. I value display, battery life and low fan noise. Any advice? Thanks!
I was also looking at these two. It seems the battery life is similar on both. The 7i has a more power hungry HX chip but that is offset by a larger battery than the Yoga, so they should be similar. Battery life in general is not great on these machines, only Asus has decent battery life but they have annoying fan noise and some reliability and warranty issues. The Yoga has a better miniLED display, but at the same price range as the 7i it comes with a 4060 instead of a 4070, not a huge difference but worth noting. In terms of fan noise they have both reviewed quite well, see Dave2D’s vid. In theory the Yoga should be quieter but Im not sure if you could tell in real world use. I personally went with the Legion 7i, I recommend seeing both at a best buy and seeing what you prefer, it sounds like either would be fine for your needs.
Wow kudos for the back light bleed!!!!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 Reviewers don't usually do it so kudos!! I've sent back my new legion 5 pro 23 because the bleeding was not good
I have a 2024 Razer 14 which is amazing, but I switched to this for the daily desk work laptop and bigger screen. This is a great video to maximize this laptop.
Personally, I prefer performance and features over it being thin and sleek. I don’t mind it being thicker or a little bit loud to get the extra performance and features that I really want. I wish Lenovo would’ve made a line specifically for users like this.
Great review! I like you describe everthing, then run tests. I hate reviews that re-state the marketing literature and specs with no value added, except ai re-writing! I agree it would be better to have the I/O moved backwards.... The laptop is suddenly occuping a lot of desktop space. I have heard the Legion 7i is based on the 2023 Slim, but I think you said it correctly, it replaces the slim 7i. There is no new 2024 Slim 7i model for US, Canada, Europe, or Aus/NZ per psref. Thanks
Bought this laptop after seeing your review. 1. When in Exteme / Custom mode It heats like crazy, cpu reaches 100C stops and then reboots automatically, freezing every process while at it. For example: You import footage in premiere while Media Encoder renders a 1080p video. It tries to keep up with the process and after a few seconds, the fans slow down to where they just stop, everything freezes and laptop reboots. 2. Because of the heat it has massive problems with throttling. Even in High Performance mode, CPU cores reach 95-97% and CPU throttles. If you enable CPU overclocking, you'll experience what I described at point 1. 3. Overall materials & screen are amazing, it is a very nice slim-ish laptop for the price range, but the performance is questionable. At this price point it really depends what you buy it for. I personally spent the money for the screen because I do a lot of video editing. I managed to calibrate this screen to be 95% close to the retina from MacBook so the screen is really amazing. 4. I do have a question for you... do you think all these problems can be a result of the "instability" of W11 ? By your opinion, do you think if W10 would be a better more stable fit?
I'd probably consider changing CPU temp in Custom mode so that it doesn't happen. I believe it does have a warning of instability when changing things there. That being said, we haven't experienced that with any of the Legion's we've tested using Custom mode maxed out. I don't think W11 would be causing it as it is designed to run on W11. If issues still continue I'd probably consider returning it.
Just ordered one. My Asus Zephyrus G14 from 2022 has been a real pain in recent months. Thermals were so bad I couldn't touch the keyboard anymore. Keys stopped working and today I finally just gave up and bought a Lenovo. The quality seems much higher than Asus. Let us pray.
What people want is this chassis with a Ryzen 9 16Core 40CU iGPU + 48gb-64gb ram(16gb to iGPU), RTX 5090 60w-140w with Rj45, 3x USB and 3x USB-C, 1 power-plug, 1 HDMI+adapter to DP.
That’s what I’m wondering! Seems to be that this laptop doesn’t come with an optional OLED but it receives more power so its gpu will do better. From my own research it seems to just be what do you need out of the laptop
I had a G16 and am now typing this from the 7i after returning it. Much happier with this machine. G16 has a nicer screen but I really like the one on 7i as well. Better keyboard, and the fans don’t sound like death which is why i returned the G16
I just got this laptop and love it. If I had to gripe about a couple things, I'd say the touchpad feels like a loose, rattling aluminum can versus the solid "thump" of Lenovo machines from 3-4 generations back. Also, it's confusing that they include a large 230W silicone charger and are marketing this as a portable laptop. They introduced the more portable 330W GaN chargers for the larger Pro models, which seems a bit backwards to me.
thanks for making this, its at a perfect time where I am in the market to buy a laptop and this lenovo seems perfect. I was literally wishing you would make this (review of new legion), I follow most of your videos. Where can I buy that model you reviewed??
Just bought it today with 3.2k dosplay and i9 4060 best choice for me and i really loved it but 1 issue i find that some games doesnt go on 16:10 and It gives a 2 line on the bottom and top rest the laptop is working really gr8
guys i have the last year slim 7i , just to be honest u even cannot utilise this machine fully , so practically tbh there is no sense of buying the 2024 variant , until until u use some very very demanding cpu intensive software , i have the i9 13900 h along with 4060 , its quite a beast , the only drawback i feel are the speakers ((**casual to semi pro gamers ))
Still prefer the 2022 Models, Make 2 lines up one competes with the more Thicc laptop 💻 from ASUS Strix and MSI, this design competes with Razer Blade and ROG Zephyrus.
No, there's no point, 14900HX is basically the same as 13900HX, not worth an entire video, the laptop is the same otherwise as the video I did last year.
I managed to get a good deal on a 12th gen i7 - 4070 Asus TUF for less than $1k US. I don't think ill need an upgrade for years to come. After months of use, I wish the VRAM buffer was larger than 8GB's. Great video
Hi Jarrod, I returned my Legion 7i as I was having black screen issues after 20 days of use, now I am stuck between getting this again or the new Yoga 9i with meteorlake CPU, will you ever do a comparison of both, I want to know if the slight less gaming and 3D software performance is worth the extra battery efficiency, thanks
Lorna Shore!! Great review btw. In the market for a laptop that excels in programming and gaming. Any recommendations for best all around gaming laptop? Not concerned with budget, but also don't think spending thousands of dollars is necessary to get a good all around device.
I just realized, the Pro 7's review isn't out yet. Kinda surprising to me. Although, I do wish that they give the thing a white colored painjob and a clearer mode color on the power button rather than just a mere dot. Doesn't have to be a fingerprint scanner, just make it more blatant
Interested to see what you think of the G16 when you get it. I just ordered a 7i after returning my G16 due to poor (high pitched) fan noise. Edit: Also keep an eye (or ear) out for coil whine on your unit, in the form of a buzzing noise. Mine and HardwareCanucks both had this noise.
Hi Jarrod. Thank you for your review. What would be your recommendation between this year legion 5i vs 7i both with rtx 4070? Is there much difference in game performance between the i7 and i9? Thank you
Stumbled upon this channel and absolutelyy enjoyed ur reviews!! Hope to get some opinions here, how does legion 7i (2024 model) compare with Razer blade 15 (2022 model)?
I am looking at this for my next laptop. I am looking at 2 different configurations from best buy, an i7 and 4060, and an i9 and 4070. There's a $300 (USD) price difference. And some of the reviews comparing the i9 in this to the 7i pro show noticeable hits in the CPU performance due to thermals to the point where the Core i7 seems like a more reasonable CPU option, but then I have to go down to the 4060 graphics. I would love to see a comparison of these 2 configs to see how much of a difference it is between them really is to see if the i9/4070 is worth the extra $300.
As for the overclock, if you do it make it for all laptops (it's probably just a tiny difference but just to be fair), also you could make a test let's say in 2 games with and without the overclock to see how it performs
Nice review, Jarrod! I'm considering buying this laptop with the Intel Core i7-14700HX + RTX 4070, but I've read that Intel 13th/14th gen processors have some issues. Have you encountered any problems so far? I want this laptop to last me about 3-4 years. Otherwise, I'm thinking of getting the Legion Slim 5 with the Ryzen 7 8845HS + RTX 4070. Thanks!
Not gonna lie, that very impressive cpu temp suring stress test because, this is not super thick or wide laptop like msi titan, no side vents, under 2,4kg weight, fan noise still not stupid loud
I'm deciding between this or the rog strix 16, both with the same configuration. Could you help me by telling me which one has better cooling? I'm really enjoying these videos

@Sevagoth_TheUndying Absolute chad laptop compared to anything I have used in the past. Loving mine. Hope you can find a good deal. GL!
@@nathanskinner423 appreciate it i needed some confirmation to pull the trigger on this deal
Improvements come so fast to legion laptops of all models it seems . Love being a legion fan , and a Jarrod fan 👍🏽
Just got this bad boy, can’t wait to play on it!
How’s it?
Picked this exact laptop up a few weeks ago. Glad it got your stamp of approval! Do you have a recommendation for a 140W USB-C charger? Looking for one to keep in my backpack.
Lenovo C170 adapter
Please compare 13700hx vs 13900hx vs 14700hx vs 14900hx because we all are confused? Which CPUs laptop to buy, since old models are cheaper.
Bought it a couple days ago maxed options, glacier white, 32 ram, 1TB storage, windows 11 pro and can’t wait for it to arrive. I’ll come back to the video and comment after a week of use what I think and if I think you should get it 🫡
Great review Jarrod
So im contemplating to buy between Legion 7i and Zephyrus G16. Would like to know which is great value for its spec?
My research show is either 7i (Upgradability & Performance) VS G16 (OLED & Built Quality/Design)
User review show G16 run quite loud and hot during normal task.
Would appreciate comments on these 2 products since it would cost 1999 usd to get these upgrades. *coming from Lenovo Y510p 660 USD @ 2013😂. Thanks
I want to compare them in a dedicated video I'm just waiting on ASUS For ages to lend us a G16.
So good balance for me I think😅
What do u think sir?
I like it, but It's interesting that you are picking a laptop with a 4070. I am on the fence between a 4070 and a 4080 for a laptop for video editing and some gaming.
How does the build quality compared to 2024 ROG Zephyrus G16? Is there noticeable difference in rigidity?
Thanks for the review! I'm debating between this legion 7i and the Yoga Pro 9i. I don't play the most demanding games but i do play rdr or fifa after work for a few hours and on weekends. I value display, battery life and low fan noise. Any advice? Thanks!
7i since the ram is not Soldered
If you want a decent battery life check out intel ultra series, in this hx series efficient not a deal because of use cases
The lack of OLED display is a disappointment for me
Yes it would be good for creators to get true blacks 😢
Wow kudos for the back light bleed!!!!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 Reviewers don't usually do it so kudos!! I've sent back my new legion 5 pro 23 because the bleeding was not good
I have a 2024 Razer 14 which is amazing, but I switched to this for the daily desk work laptop and bigger screen. This is a great video to maximize this laptop.
I'm not getting a new laptop this year but i do hope they keep this form factor next year and up to the time we get rtx 5000 series graphics cards
What exactly is Optimus, Advanced Optimus, MUX switch, and how do they differ from each other?
He made a video about it. You should watch it.
We've made a few videos and also written this resource on all those things:

Hi Jarrod, nice review!
Also, which is the best budget gaming laptop of 2024?
@@JarrodsTech Thanks for the tips Jarrod!
Hey how's the laptop now@@alexandruioan1
Just ordered one. My Asus Zephyrus G14 from 2022 has been a real pain in recent months. Thermals were so bad I couldn't touch the keyboard anymore. Keys stopped working and today I finally just gave up and bought a Lenovo. The quality seems much higher than Asus. Let us pray.
banger tshirt as always
🤘
Finally, We got review on legion 7i laptop by Jarrod.😊😊
Excellent Review!
I have last years i7 Slim and I feel like it's a perfect balance of power and heat, since it has the 13th gen i9 and the same GPU.
Hey Jared I’m considering this laptop but would you recommend the i9 14900HX or i7 14700HX variant? As I’m concerned about the i9 throttling to 40W?
I want to know thiss too
What people want is this chassis with a Ryzen 9 16Core 40CU iGPU + 48gb-64gb ram(16gb to iGPU), RTX 5090 60w-140w with Rj45, 3x USB and 3x USB-C, 1 power-plug, 1 HDMI+adapter to DP.
I mean you could also light a different laptop on fire and get the same thing
@@Theres_A_Way 🤣
I assume we'll have a problem getting them in Europe, as we always do with the Legion 7 series 😥
Definitely very interested to see how this stacks up against the G16!
They introduced the more portable 330W GaN chargers for the larger Pro models, which seems a bit backwards to me.
directly to main point thank you 😇
This channel has extremely high quality reviews.
thanks for making this, its at a perfect time where I am in the market to buy a laptop and this lenovo seems perfect.
Have always watched your videos in English. First Time watching this in HINDI…. Kudos! 😊🎉
Bought one direct from Lenovo. Died in 4 hours.
Going through RMA process now.
Awesome.
Still prefer the 2022 Models, Make 2 lines up one competes with the more Thicc laptop 💻 from ASUS Strix and MSI, this design competes with Razer Blade and ROG Zephyrus.
Knew something big was coming. Great vid
i bought it but it was on sale and there were only black variants cant wait to use it!
Will you review the Pro 7i Gen 9 with the 4080/4090? Because I plan on getting that, and I want to know what to look out for
No, there's no point, 14900HX is basically the same as 13900HX, not worth an entire video, the laptop is the same otherwise as the video I did last year.
Loving my Legion 7 (10750h/2070Super) and especially my Slim 7 Gen8 (7840HS/4060)
I managed to get a good deal on a 12th gen i7 - 4070 Asus TUF for less than $1k US. I don't think ill need an upgrade for years to come. After months of use, I wish the VRAM buffer was larger than 8GB's. Great video
Waiting for an in-depth review of the Asus Zephyrus G16. I wonder how it compares to this.
Thanks Jared...you never let me down 😮
Hi Jarrod, I returned my Legion 7i as I was having black screen issues after 20 days of use, now I am stuck between getting this again or the new Yoga 9i with meteorlake CPU, will you ever do a comparison of both, I want to know if the slight less gaming and 3D software performance is worth the extra battery efficiency, thanks
Battery life should be similar on both units since the 7i has a larger battery to offset the higher CPU power
Lorna Shore!! Great review btw. In the market for a laptop that excels in programming and gaming. Any recommendations for best all around gaming laptop? Not concerned with budget, but also don't think spending thousands of dollars is necessary to get a good all around device.
The first sentence Jarrod says ... I TOTALLY agree with. clean ass laptop >:)
mmm MMM 👌
Great review! Stuck between this, the pro variant (2024), and the G16... Need your reviews :)
Love the detailed review!
Can you review the Acer Nitro V16? I got my eyes on it but there's no dedicated review of it so far
Great review and shirt brotha. Im sold. Will Ramos and Lorna slap liive,. saw em in a small venue . great band
I just realized, the Pro 7's review isn't out yet. Kinda surprising to me. Although, I do wish that they give the thing a white colored painjob and a clearer mode color on the power button rather than just a mere dot. Doesn't have to be a fingerprint scanner, just make it more blatant
Thanks for your vid! Gretting from 🇵🇪
I love this laptop! More content on this model please!!!
Thanks!
can't imagine how much effort goes into creating these videos. much respect.
I'm really enjoying these videos
lenovo of course
My G in Lorna Shore t-shirt, looking solid!
Hey, superb video.
I just have a question, as the laptop can be considered slim laptop, well it is a rebranded slim, Will the thermals overtime deteriorate the components and thermal throttle ? over the span of just 2-3 years
