The 2021 Mustang Mach 1 is the ultimate version of the Mustangs 5.0 V8, Ford claims. The Bullit is out, the Mach 1 is in. With 480 horsepower and 460 lb/ft torque, the Mach 1 is no slouch. But the power is not the most exciting aspect of this car. That would be the amount of parts that are shared with the Shelby GT350(R) and the GT500. Suspension is rigid, downforce is substantial, and of course, the exhaust is deafeningly loud. With a base price of $51,000 ($61,000 as tested), does the Mach 1 Mustang offer daily drivability while maintaining the track focused intentions of the more powerful Shelby’s?
Let’s address these one at a time. Is it daily drivable? Absolutely. You can set the exhaust in quiet mode, turn on your cooled seats, and cruise in a softer suspension in normal mode during your traffic induced commute. Diving into the interior, the infotainment can definitely use an update since the design feels outdated and less exciting than the rest of the car. Although it works well, there is just a lack of sexiness and overall appeal. The rear seats? Let’s not mention those. After all, this is a Mustang, notorious for awfully cramped rear seats. But rest assured, you do have somewhat usable space for smaller people, which earns a point for daily drivability over the Shelby’s with deleted rear seats.
Now for the exciting part, the drive. Before anything else, I immediately noticed how sharp and sensitive the steering is. The slightest bump in the Mach 1 Mustang can send you in the wrong direction, especially at full throttle. Keep both hands on the wheel, and turn up the active valve exhaust for the most smiles. The power is explosive, as is the case with every special Mustang. Confidence is high due to manageable power and borrowed suspension components, tires, and transmission from the more powerful Shelby’s.
Overall, this car is a tremendous combination of daily excitement and laser focused canyon carving. Watch the full video to see if I recommend the purchase of this car over the other Mustangs.

@@MrAdrian13 Actually... I have the MACH 1, it is at just under 3700lbs. My 19 GT weighs 3900lbs. Just sayin, but in general, you're not wrong.

I'm 71 and am on my fifth mustang. I had two 69's, my favorite being a SCJ. Also had a 2012 GT, a 2015 Roush, and my current 2020 GT. You won't regret getting one of the new ones.
I’m not sure if it’s just the wing but it really looks good and that exhaust note is very different but it sounds so good. I think this is the first Mustang I love based on just a review. Wow!

The Recaros don’t come with ventilation or heat and they’re manually operated. Standard seats have power heated and cooled.
Took your advice Adam and drove to Santa Monica Ford to make my Mach 1 build order and a particular sales rep wasn't to helpful. So I ordered from another dealer 7miles south.

Adam, what's your take on the current situation regarding available Mach 1s? I've been waiting almost 6mos for my order I have a build date its been revised 4 times no longer a 2021 order now 2022.
Just one note, it's not 460 TQ, it's 420, same as the standard GT. HP is correct at 480. Even though, we all know Ford's official numbers are underrated.

Getting Recaro means that you can say bye bye to the heating and cooling features...just saying. I ve kept the regular seats in mine.
Just too let u know..heated seats was the dumbest idea ever....the oils you use too clean your seats plus the heat coming from the heaters ruin the seats

Bought mine with the Recaros hoping I would fit in them. Didn't. They are very nice seats though. Hoping to trade my car for one wth the leather seats and orange stripes. I love the 6-speed transmission.
I think I'd prefer the Mach 1 over the GT500... Simply for the hwy gas mileage and cruising range.
I love the front of the 15-17's those are the most aggressive looking front look with the low hung driving/fog lights.
I want the 18 and up rear on a 15 to 17 Mustang.
Amazing how far these cars have come. But realistically there's limited chances for safe runs at speed. Crowded streets and everybody just pulling out regardless of traffic. Maybe the kids don't like hearing it but its the truth. I drive an AMG 63 and see it all the time.

You make it sound like a 6 speed is the only way to go. You should mention that the 10 speed auto is faster to 60 and in the quarter mile...
Yeah but its lame and if you're chasing the fastest your whole life you'll never be satisfied. To me its about HOW you do it. Driving manual is the ultimate driving experience in my opinion.

what’s up with everyone saying the Mach 1 has 460 lb-ft of torque? it’s literally got just as much torque as any other gen 3 coyote, 420 lb-ft. it’s just 20 more hp than a GT.
It actually does have more torque.
@@xiborgh on fords website it says 420 lb-ft torque soooo according to Ford it makes the same amount of torque as a GT and i’ve driven one, doesn’t really seem that much faster in a straight line…

Its literally 60k for a transmission that should have been in the 45k pp2 mustang. The price is unjustified
Exactly, nothing else really different or better.
Me being an owner of one I have done a price comparison to the pp2. There is alot of options that come with this car that are standard that you have to pay for in the pp2. Yes the pp2 is cheaper but I can tell you that for the 60k price tag there is alot more that you get with this car not to mention that there are options that are not available on the pp2.
@@jasonantes6015 little difference though, ive spec out both. Dont see anything special between the two for it to be a 18k plus difference. You can honestly get a ss 1le for 20k less almost and perform the same or better. I just dont get it.
Only thing on this car from gt is the body the block and rotating assembly. Everything else is from Shelby cars
I'm on the bench deciding whether to get a new mach 1 or to get a 2019 shelby gt350. Thoughts and opinions?
I would recommend getting the GT350 for a few reasons. Mainly, the driving experience (especially with the 6spd), the engine, and the rarity of the car. The prices of the GT350 will hold much better than the Mach 1 in my opinion. You can’t go wrong with either one though. Explosive power in either
I’m leaning towards getting a 2021 Mustang Mach 1 with the handling package. The reasons are I can still get a Mach 1 new, it’s simple NA engine is far more reliable vs an exotic high rev GT350 or a supercharged GT500, and it’s a more street fun and useable engine vs either a GT350 (not as much torque down low for fun street use) or a GT500 (simply too much power to be any fun on the street, no manual, and it uses far too much gas). Also, a Mach 1 is well worth the upgrade over a well optioned GT just for the Tremec 6-Speed Manuel alone. And the difference in money is surprisingly minimal vs a comparative well optioned out GT. All that said, I do wish Ford would do a higher end interior trim for the Mustang, perhaps something to rival the interior quality of a nicer Toyota, Honda, or BMW.
I’ve owned both. I’d take either. If you gonna leave it stock go 350. If you wanna mod it go m1. Do research on the voodoo engine. M1 is bulletproof and the one I currently own.
Are those red stripes and hood decal under the clear coat? Hopefully not I want to remove them.
Great video thanks for the amazing review of the Mach I. The car looks fantastic and seeing it drive by definitely gets your attention especially if you are a “Car Guy”. The auto 10R80 seems to be a great transmission if you care to take it to the drag strip. I have a few manual cars and my wife refuses to drive them in our hideous Washington DC traffic where the highways were made for 5 million people but unfortunately we have 11 million people on the roads. I agree that the 6-speed Tremec is more desirable for driving enjoyment!!!

How well do those seats hold you in place? I have been looking at ordering a Mach 1 and trying to decide between the standard Leather seats and the Recaro ones.
I would definitely recommend the Recaros. The car is just too capable for these standard seats. You’d really get a good use out of the Recaros if you plan to do any level of spirited driving. Let me know how you like the car when you get one!

speaking of a 7.0L V8...that's what is in a C6 Z06, which weighs a mere 3100 lbs. Just saying. :) Anyhow, love the look and sound of these new Mach 1's.

I wish they had Michellin PS4S in those sizes, those cups aren't good for everyday driving especially if you're in a place like Florida where it rains. Also wish Ford had put 4 piston calipers out back instead of those single cheap looking ones.

Well Mustang Mach 1 has a better ring to it than Mustang GT PP3. That will attract the Ford diehards who need to buy it for the Mach heritage, despite the Ford designers not adding the shaker hood, the very design aspect that is synonymous with the Mach 1 name. 🙄

How is ground clearance and suspension compared to regular GT?
The 1969 to 1973 Mach 1s were just appearance packages. They had nothing to do with performance. The 03 and 04 Mach 1s were a big performance leap over the GT at the time.
I thought that I wanted a GT500. But after watching this, the Mach 1 seems to a better choice. I think the the version he drove was the perfect version for me. 👍

Torque correction. It's 420 just like the regular GT not 460.
I would tell you to go with 10r80 its cheat code and will beat a 6spd car 10 out of 10 attempts.

That’s not true. The original was a trim package. It was a GT with a special trim package. I know because my dad had a 1970 Mach 1 with the 351 Cleveland engine. Ford made the Mach 1 as a cool package name. Because you could get different engines in different trim levels. That was true also about the camaro that is why Ford added trim levels to compete with other manufacturers. It wasn’t that they couldn’t compete performance wise.

If this car was only 200 lbs lighter. The whole mustang line up, just like the 5th gen camaro, need to loose 200 lbs. Let’s hope S650 platform delivers.

I'm trying to figure out how do the car wakes up better with a manual transmission when it's been proven over and over again that the 10 speed is faster and quicker then the manual transmission. 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
