2.3 is a fantastic engine. Too bad Ford discontinued their hatchbacks.

I never understood why the Ecoboost got so much hate. $30k for a 300+ hp & torque car brand new is a great deal in today’s market. Sure, the GT is more powerful and sounds amazing but not everyone wants to spend 50k+ on a depreciating muscle car.
For me, I’ll be going with the GT just because it might be the last V8 generation but I also understand the appeal of the Ecoboost. Especially for younger buyers who are getting their first sports car.

I used to own a 2016 2.3L with the 6sp, and it was a great car. Quick enough to be fun, got 22mpg if I drove it hard, and got 32mpg on the HWY. And around town, it actually feels quicker than the V8 because of the torque coming in at a low RPM. The 2.3 also handles better due to being lighter up front. And yes, I have driven both to compare them. And with it being over $10K more for the GT over the 2.3, its a valid option. EDIT: Just saw the 2.3 is auto only. Which makes it a non-option :(

No they didn't. There are a ton of people who buy mustangs, Camaros, and challengers for the looks, and nothing else. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Many of these people, the overwhelming majority, go with the auto. The manual really only appeals to diehard enthusiasts. Surprise surprise, most diehard enthusiasts go with the v8 anyway.
The decision to offer fewer options and reduce manufacturing complexity by ditching Ecoboost manuals almost certainly saved Ford millions of dollars. Decisions like that are what allows Ford to still offer a 330 hp rwd sports car for a starting price comparable to a family sedan. As car enthusiasts, we want everything in the world for virtually no money, but that's just not how the industry works. We need to realize all car companies make difficult decisions, but at the end of the day, are trying to give us the best products they can.

It literally costs millions of dollars to make a single metal press for a front left fender good sir. Car development is insanely expensive.
It may seem simple to just bolt an existing transmission onto an engine, but it's not that straightforward. A local Ford dealer was gracious enough and allowed me to drive the GT Premium for 24 hours and the Ecoboost Premium HPP for 24 hours. I kept the Ecoboost. The HPP add-on made the Ecoboost feel more planted than the GT. Also, the brakes on the Ecoboost felt better. The GT sure sounds great and it has good power, but the GT needs to be driven hard in order to feel the power. The Ecoboost is lighter and turbo so it was rather zippy. The deciding factor was MPGs. The GT was gave me an average of 17 MPGs, while the Ecbooost gave me an average of 25 MPGs. I already have a STI that makes 600+ whp so I don’t need another gas guzzler. Last, I like the more subtle look of the Ecoboost than the “hey look at me” approach of the GT. The Ecoboost I got was priced at $41k while the GT $51k.

Went back to this video after my girlfriend decided that the v8 was just too much motor for her (and it is, for her)... but she ended up purchasing the Ecoboost Premium with the Performance Package. I am actually shocked by how good this car really is. Yes, I get it, the v8 is faster (by a large margin thru the 1/4 mile), but the Ecoboost with the Performance Package will flat out shame many 'performance' cars 0-60 from the not too distant past. On a road course (vs a drag strip) where pure acceleration is only part of the equation, it has the potential to be really quick... and the minimum 10g's that you save pays for a lot of sticky tire and maybe some track time, not to mention the lower insurance cost and crazy gas mileage (was seeing over 35 mpg at 65 mph). So while personally, I love the idea of having a $70k loaded Dark Horse with 500 HP, the $41k Ecoboost Premium with the Performance Package ticks a lot of boxes for almost 1/2 the price. Actually drive one and see why this might be the best bargain in the lineup. Tommy is often wrong, but Ford knocked it out of the park with the Ecoboost Premium Performance Package Mustang.

One thing I notice in this video that looks super cheap is the center dedicate buttons next to the stop start button. That whole panel moves and I can only imagine the contact points behind it will fail. Terrible design. I think Ford have lost the 'Mustang touch' by altering the dash board away from the iconic double hip. The v8 is the soul of the mustang. Even though the emissions tuning has seriously neutered the throttle blip snort sound. It sounds like both the turbo 4 and the v8 get throttle delay initial step in and throttle hang on lift off.
I also think the double hump dash is part of the soul of the mustang, but the fad right now is giant wide flat screen dash boards.

A few observations regarding your comments. First the S550 interior was getting blasted for it's dated interior which was part of the reason for the drop in S550 sales. You mentioned the manual transmission missing in the EcoBoost. Maybe you should have ask Jim Owens the number of orders placed for the manual transmission in the S650. If I can remember the number correctly. The manual transmission was around 20% of orders placed versus the 10 speed automatic which included the Dark Horse. Think about your question regarding the Foxbody gauges. The Foxbody Mustangs is becoming very popular with a big jump in their pricing plus it's the 1st 5.0 performance GT that started the return of the muscle cars after the late 60s when the gas shortage ended the muscle cars. By the way. You set a record for the shortest interview with the very informative Jim Owens. Maybe it has something to do with the type of questions you were asking like "Why the Fox Body gauges". You have the head of the Mustang program and you ask that question instead of asking him about the new Gen 4 Coyote and EcoBoost. Then your reasoning for buying an EcoBoost versus a GT. That's why Ford is offering the EcoBoost, GT and Dark Horse. So you have a choice that fits your budget. My issue is I like performance and the amazing sound of the new Gen 4 Coyote S650 GT and Dark Horse.

I'm surprised Ford didn't bump up too their 2.7L turbo V6 instead of the 4-cyl, or at least make it a option. But I guess that would be steeping on the Coyote's toes too.

23 GT owner here, as many others are saying you probably won't be able to get a V8 anymore before too long. My GT is not my daily driver and after 8 months I've only put 1600 miles on it (I'm a homebody) and I say all this to emphasize the fact that I do NOT regret buying my horse at all. I'm smiling the entire time I drive it, every time I drive it. Unfortunately I live in an extremely heavy traffic area so it's a pain in the ass having to constantly shift gears, but going out for a bit of a countryside drive is absolutely beautiful.
My civic sounds angrier than these ecoboosts. If it's all you are able to afford and you simply must have a mustang, more power to you and I wish you the best. If you're in the market for it and can manage a bigger purchase in the GT, I fully recommend it. I did not like the '24 and factory ordered my '23. I don’t care if the Ecoboost has more HP and torque. I’d still go for the V8. Not even a question.

thats pretty dumb though... you have to have more hp and torque in v8 otherwise its a dumb decision. you'll have more weight, worse fuel economy etc. weight through corners etc. etc. etc. V8 must be much more powerful otherwise its the ol girlfriend keeps returning to her abusive bf syndrome... doesn't make sense to anyone other than the girl who says he smells nice lol

$20K is a bit cheap; I do agree that if they had a 6-speed manual option for around $28-30K I’d think about it. I love my 2018 ecoboost, performance and appearance-wise it beats the S650 IMHO.

The 2.3 turbo in the Mustang will not be offered in European spec models.

Good, I'm moving to Europe. They still know what it means to be American

@@macbook802it's not that, they have to ship it and they have a much smaller margin because they WAAAAY mark up the V8 Mustang in Europe.....they got rid of it in Europe the same reason why they gave up their best selling car, the Fiesta....Ford is greedy and wants higher margins and does not want to service the "poor" customer

It’s easy for you guys to push buying turbos when you only drive them brand new with less than 10,000 miles on them. Try and keep one for 200k miles, you won’t be recommending turbo over v8 anymore
