And the movie shows why. A lot of his points are complaining that there is character development in this movie. Sure the team doesn’t get along at first but that is to be expected with these vastly different personalities even without the mind stone in play stirring the pot. The only other points about his struggles in fight scenes ignores he is punching above his weight. Captain America is what I call high-street level hero in comic books meaning he tends to fight regular humans or people with some level of superpowers but not anyone on the level of heroes like Iron Man (whose rogues gallery includes an alien dragon) the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Thor, Hulk, or Captain Marvel. I noticed how the dude who made the original video omits the fight scene where Captain America defends the Helicarrier from Loki’s human terrorists as they are more on his playing field.

This guy sounds like he’s upset that Captain America isn’t the strongest being ever when that’s the appeal of Cap in The Avengers. He’s someone who leads the team he’s not the muscle that’s Thor and Hulk, he’s not the smartest that’s Tony, he may not even be the deadliest Widow and Hawkeye are probably better killers than him. But the point of cap is to ground the team and have something the others don’t and that’s leadership. Every other member is mainly a solo character even the shield characters but Cap has lead hundreds of men and has that experience. Him being weaker than others forces him to focus on the little guy and be creative. Having a weaker character is almost always more interesting than a overpowered character like Thor or Hulk because in conflict Cap has to be resourceful

Love this take! Weakness *is* Cap’s greatest strength if we think about it. What does that mean lmfao ight bare with me. It all circles back to him before the serum right? He became the peak of all humans, but strictly because he proved to be the best of all humans too. Morally, not necessarily physically.
“The strong man who has known power all his life may lose respect for that power. But a weak man, knows the value of strength. And knows compassion.”
He became Captain America, but Steve Rogers is the hero. The guy from Brooklyn, who wants to do what’s right and puts others over himself constantly. Steve’s certainly a hell of a leader but more importantly, a good man. And anyone can be Captain America with that kind of heart. They tend to only focus on might and superior weaponry and forget that war includes a great deal of sacrifice from people who are usually forgotten if they aren't Presidents or military leaders. Also, he could have been referencing humans losing their humanity by using atomic weapons, which would tie in with his later mistrust of S.H.I.E.L.D using the tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction.

Tony certainly thinks that but he is meant to be wrong and proven later on that it is his character that makes him who he is. Steve doesn’t really contest the point outside of asking what Tony is without his armor because he is humble. Well, the whole problem that this guy has with Captain America not being skilled enough, is stupid. Because it was part of his character journey and proven to be the case later. They quite literally resolve this in the winter soldier because Captain America learned several different fighting styles so that he can keep up with the other avengers because he knew that he was severely outmatched in the avengers/new world or just out of touch with combat altogether since he’s been asleep for 70 years. It’s great because it gives him more character growth rather than just him being a perfect leader in this new world. He has to adapt, which makes it cool and interesting. Not to mention the fact that during World War II, no one in america really had any knowledge of different fighting styles, other than the ones that were used in military so maybe a bit of that is probably the case. Things like kung fu and karate weren’t revealed until like 30 years later. By special agents knowing all these different forms of combat is pretty jarring for Cap, which is why he learns more forms of fighting later.

Take DC for example. It is the other extreme for Batman. DC has it in their writers contracts that Batman can, under no circumstances seem weak or unable in practically any situation(within reason). This leads to many undeserved feats, most of which is people believing that he and cap are comparable from a physical perspective. Same goes for my other favorite character, Black Panther. I was massively upset with his portrayal and how inept he was shown to be in the MCU. Which is especially bad given that unlike Cap, he's supposed to be a polymath supergenius.

I do think cap feels nerfed in this movie comparatively to other movies. However, I think it would be excellent context for people to realize Steve went from being the strongest character (in 1940's) to being just a standard fighter. He's literally never had a struggle other than the obvious struggles of war. Nobody could stop him, so this movie needed him to have people kick his ass a bit to really push him to go "Oh shit, I might need to be better" because in later movies the man seriously grows and becomes one hell of a fighter.
I get people saying that Steve is basically as strong as the plot needs, but dude SHOULD be fucking fast, strong, and brilliant beyond Hawkeye and Natasha. He just pales in comparison to a god damn norse god and a man with breath taking anger issues. I did think that Cap vs Loki was a bit overplayed too, and it would've been better if they played it as him going for defense of the civillians, but we can agree to disagree on that. Also, Tony, without his missiles, I argue is not stronger than Steve in a 1 v 1 straightforward fight. Steve shield should be able to break a gold titanium alloy.

Braeden makes great MCU criticisms and his points are almost always correct. Including this one. This was Tony Stark's show with Captain America as the supporting act. You never feel that Cap is the guy that The Avengers will follow. He doesn't have an arc or any relation to the plot beyond "we need you to help us out, bro". He doesn't even have memorable action scenes. All of the best ones were given to Iron Man, Thor and Hulk. Joss Whedon clearly wasn't interested him because he couldn't make him a mouthpiece for his own inssufurable sense of humor. Cap in the first Avengers is Cyclops from the X-Men movies.
Also, tell SK to take a shower.

  • @Thundercloud94
    @Thundercloud94 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

So he’s upset that the movie doesn’t explore Cap’s “man out of time” dilemma more. The thing is, though, the Avengers was not the appropriate movie to cover that. The Avengers as a film had one main purpose, and that was to give us a satisfying team up that had been built up for four years and it delivered. Being upset that it didn’t include a character study on Cap is just bizarre. Like, of course they saved that stuff for Winter Soldier because that was Cap’s movie and they could devote all of their attention to him. The ensemble movie with 6 main characters was not the place to do that because they wouldn’t have been able to give it the amount of attention it deserves.
Like dude is really complaining that Cap wasn’t the exclusive main character in an ensemble team up movie 🙄

I THINK what he's getting at with Cap adjusting to the modern world in Avengers is that he wants it to be a core emotional beat, rather than a running gag.
Problem is, there's no way in heck you can balance that with everything else going on in the movie. Same with a lot of his criticisms. They'd be valid in a slower-paced film, but Avengers cannot be that AND a teammup of everything before it. It HAS to be fast paced.

If he does hate Captain America, he sure did a bad job at showing it. The Avengers was the first MCU film I ever saw-I wasn't too into comic book movies at the time, but I had a friend who invited me to see it; I had no prior knowledge of any of the characters-and I walked out a very happy small child who had no doubts in his mind about Captain America being his favorite member of the Avengers. Like, Steve was (and still kinda is) my favorite character throughout the entirety of the MCU; I think he was a really well-written character and I loved him always standing up for what he believed was right and helping to lead others. If Steve is a character Whedon hates, then I'd love to see more characters he hates, since those are apparently the best ones.

7:20 I always understood it as Cap learning everything that happened since WWII. Captain America would have almost certainly been given a crash course on American history since 1944 or ‘45 (depending on when he went under). Learning about the failures of Korea and Vietnam, as well as the corruption and scandals such as Watergate and cultural revolutions such as the hippie movement where so many were lost to drugs, would certainly have struck to his core as he saw how the world he loved and expected to die for was now gone.
Sure, they won the war, but was it worth it? Was his sacrifice in vain after all? Beat the tyrant only to loose their soul in the end? That’s how I’ve always heard that line.

The chautari general during the invasion of New York was Loki who Captain America earlier in the film did not stand a chance against Loki in a single match. So how does it make sense for Steve to have a drag out fight against Loki. Loki alone could be Captain America iron Man Black widow and Hawkeye all at the same time. Loki only seems weak compared to Thor who he is physically weaker but equal in power due to all of his abilities. As for the explosion in the bank it couldn't have been that big because the chautari drone remained on the upper level of the building. So after gathering the civilians the chautari would have thrown the bomb and left the room due to them not being suicidal. Also the only reason the hulk listen to Captain America smash orders was due to the fact that Captain America called him by his hulk name not Bruce like every other encounter with the other heroes with the exception of Black widow who was the only calls the hulk the big guy.

  • @emberfist8347

I should mention The Avengers has multiple deleted scenes showing Captain America trying to adjust to life in modern New York before the action starts that you can find on the DVD. I doubt he watched the movie as many times as he claims and doesn’t know about these scenes. The line about he dislikes Star Tower was even referencing one of these scenes where he is sketching the New York City skyline at a cafe. Said scene also has him misunderstanding a reference to wireless internet to mean radio (makes sense as he probably picked up the British term for a military radio from Union Jack in the Howling Commandos). Also on a more subtle note. Captain America dresses like someone from the 1940s out of costume in the Avengers characterizing he hasn’t adjusted to modern fashion yet unlike the latter MCU films where he has a modern dress sense.

When cap says that he was frozen when WW2 was still going is true. Cap1 even shows the end of WW2 after he crashes the plane. By lost, he doesn't mean the allies both won and lost the war because of hydra, but he meant that a lot of the good of the era was lost over time, the values we held dear. A good example, my great grandfather used to wear a suit and tie (even casually) and most people don't do that nowadays unless they have.

I was thinking it could refer to other things like how World War II was the bloodiest war in recorded history, the controversial atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which he might have moral objections to due to Red Skull basically trying the same thing or how we more or less immediately entered into the Cold War or were currently stuck in the War on Terror which has become increasingly controversial with things such as the USA PATRIOT Act where we lost freedom in the name of security.
