The added reason Cap might have been struggling against the aliens could be that they are aliens, they might have comparable strength to Cap.

And the movie shows why. A lot of his points are complaining that there is character development in this movie. Sure the team doesn’t get along at first but that is to be expected with these vastly different personalities even without the mind stone in play stirring the pot. The only other points about his struggles in fight scenes ignores he is punching above his weight. Captain America is what I call high-street level hero in comic books meaning he tends to fight regular humans or people with some level of superpowers but not anyone on the level of heroes like Iron Man (whose rogues gallery includes an alien dragon) the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Thor, Hulk, or Captain Marvel. I noticed how the dude who made the original video omits the fight scene where Captain America defends the Helicarrier from Loki’s human terrorists as they are more on his playing field.

I always took Cap's line about "They didn't say what we lost" as referencing how easily people forget about the human costs of war when they glorify victory. They tend to only focus on might and superior weaponry and forget that war includes a great deal of sacrifice from people who are usually forgotten if they aren't Presidents or military leaders. Also, he could have been referencing humans losing their humanity by using atomic weapons, which would tie in with his later mistrust of S.H.I.E.L.D using the tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction.

This guy sounds like he’s upset that Captain America isn’t the strongest being ever when that’s the appeal of Cap in The Avengers. He’s someone who leads the team he’s not the muscle that’s Thor and Hulk, he’s not the smartest that’s Tony, he may not even be the deadliest Widow and Hawkeye are probably better killers than him. But the point of cap is to ground the team and have something the others don’t and that’s leadership. Every other member is mainly a solo character even the shield characters but Cap has lead hundreds of men and has that experience. Him being weaker than others forces him to focus on the little guy and be creative. Having a weaker character is almost always more interesting than a overpowered character like Thor or Hulk because in conflict Cap has to be resourceful

Love this take! Weakness *is* Cap’s greatest strength if we think about it. What does that mean lmfao ight bare with me. It all circles back to him before the serum right? He became the peak of all humans, but strictly because he proved to be the best of all humans too. Morally, not necessarily physically.
“The strong man who has known power all his life may lose respect for that power. But a weak man, knows the value of strength. And knows compassion.”
He became Captain America, but Steve Rogers is the hero. The guy from Brooklyn, who wants to do what’s right and puts others over himself constantly. Steve’s certainly a hell of a leader but more importantly, a good man. And anyone can be Captain America with that kind of heart. I suggest people go to Braden's channel and watch his response video to EFAP to get a clearer idea of what he was trying to say in his captain america video and the context behind it, because this video was when he was first starting video essays and is not his best work, also he admits himself he would've liked to rework and fix things in this old video to get his point across better. Honestly he knows what he's talking about and makes a lot of good points about writing and adaptations in his later videos so please dont just listen to .Colin and disreagard a competent critic without looking for yourself.

@@skylandersfan6954 Its not that I have an issue with critising someone's work but my point is that the video was Braden's very first video essay. He mentions this in his respond video to EFAP.
Alot of people who start out youtube or whatever we persue to do; their first works are not going to be their best, and if they greatly improve over time its not fair to judge them by their older work. Colin does'nt preface or mention this key fact and with the way he presents his video, you as a viewer probobly would'nt know this or be expected to go fact check it, it just comes off as doing this in bad faith.
Also Braden mentions in his response video that he still stands by his 'initial' premise of that video but he needed to reword and explain himself better. He mentions the reason for why the video turned out the way it did was that he was working a crappy job and again this being his first essay style video he made mistakes and also was venting frustrations he had at the time about marvel and other things. It doesnt justify something bad or poorly made but this context helps you look at it differently.
Again today Braden is very competent as a critic and better at explaining things in his videos so it feels unfair to make a video like this as if that's how he does all his stuff currently.
Personally I got nothing against .Colin but sometimes he goes after different viewpoints overly aggressively even if they have good points and portrays some arguments in a bad light.

Well, the whole problem that this guy has with Captain America not being skilled enough, is stupid. Because it was part of his character journey and proven to be the case later. They quite literally resolve this in the winter soldier because Captain America learned several different fighting styles so that he can keep up with the other avengers because he knew that he was severely outmatched in the avengers/new world or just out of touch with combat altogether since he’s been asleep for 70 years. It’s great because it gives him more character growth rather than just him being a perfect leader in this new world. He has to adapt, which makes it cool and interesting. Not to mention the fact that during World War II, no one in america really had any knowledge of different fighting styles, other than the ones that were used in military so maybe a bit of that is probably the case. Things like kung fu and karate weren’t revealed until like 30 years later. By special agents knowing all these different forms of combat is pretty jarring for Cap, which is why he learns more forms of fighting later.

Problem is, there's no way in heck you can balance that with everything else going on in the movie. Same with a lot of his criticisms. They'd be valid in a slower-paced film, but Avengers cannot be that AND a teammup of everything before it. It HAS to be fast paced.

Many of his criticisms of the MCU are him directly comparing the quality of the movies with existing comics. He said that because the comics did it good, the movies have to do it as good or even better. Problem is adaptations aren't as easy as just copy/pasting. For example, you can have all these colorful drawings in the comics, but you have to worry about oversaturation of colors, color theory in the movies, or else everything will look extremely bright and ugly. That's just one of the many differences that movies and comics have that make this sort of comparison not good.

I do think cap feels nerfed in this movie comparatively to other movies. However, I think it would be excellent context for people to realize Steve went from being the strongest character (in 1940's) to being just a standard fighter. He's literally never had a struggle other than the obvious struggles of war. Nobody could stop him, so this movie needed him to have people kick his ass a bit to really push him to go "Oh shit, I might need to be better" because in later movies the man seriously grows and becomes one hell of a fighter.
I get people saying that Steve is basically as strong as the plot needs, but dude SHOULD be fucking fast, strong, and brilliant beyond Hawkeye and Natasha. He just pales in comparison to a god damn norse god and a man with breath taking anger issues. I did think that Cap vs Loki was a bit overplayed too, and it would've been better if they played it as him going for defense of the civillians, but we can agree to disagree on that. Also, Tony, without his missiles, I argue is not stronger than Steve in a 1 v 1 straightforward fight. Steve shield should be able to break a gold titanium alloy.

@@petermj1098 I know that he did, but he still got tossed around more than I would expect by Loki. Steve isn't the strongest by a long shot, but considering how Loki fairs for the rest of the MCU I did expect a bit more from Steve. It felt kinda like the writers wanted us to be suspicious of Loki giving in suddenly to Tony, but in reality I think playing it more subtly would've worked better.

Honestly, I understand how he felt in that video. I'm a gigantic Cap fan, and I think that for a character of his stature, having him appear incapable/weak is a bit of a bad look. Take DC for example. It is the other extreme for Batman. DC has it in their writers contracts that Batman can, under no circumstances seem weak or unable in practically any situation(within reason). This leads to many undeserved feats, most of which is people believing that he and cap are comparable from a physical perspective. Same goes for my other favorite character, Black Panther. I was massively upset with his portrayal and how inept he was shown to be in the MCU. Which is especially bad given that unlike Cap, he's supposed to be a polymath supergenius.

How Cap is portrayed in later movies, which is quite different from Whedon's version, ultimately proves Alberti's point 100%. And it's not even hard to understand why a diehard progressive-globalist political activist like Whedon would treat a nationalist, conservative poster boy like Cap with utter disrespect. In Avengers most of the times he's dorky and ineffectual, at points he's treated as comic relief in a way no other characters are. And before anyone says that well, that was just his characterisation, a fish out of water confused by being frozen for half a century - that's the entire point, that it was Whedon's choice to portray Cap as such, nobody forced him to do it and he could've done it a number of other ways, but Whedon CHOSE to disrespect Cap.
