Captain America HATES America: A Strange New World

- Captain America: Brave New World is the next Disney Marvel previously casting Chris Evans as Cap himself. However Anthony Mackie has taken the shield and said it now doesn't represent America. While Anthony Mackie did talk about how he was a proud American, why is he not proud of the nation itself? Can he even BE Captain America with this attitude? Is Captain America: Brave New World worth watching?

Captain America the patriotic hero that embodies the American spirit, unless Anthony Mackie is cast in it. In an interview in Italy he seemed to be ashamed of the nation that he was meant to represent, despite posting clarifications afterwards. These clarifications announced he was a proud American, not that he was proud of America. An important distinction that requires a deeper look into his previous comments to try and work out what he means. And Anthony Mackie has a habit of saying these things, alongside others in Hollywood. To the point where you have to ask, how can someone who doesn't love America, play Captain America? Because if the attempt was to pander to foreign nations, that wasn't necessary at all. But what do you think of what he said? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)
When are we getting a captain Britain movie? He can be a Muslim immigrant who arrives on a small boat
To be fair he would be idiotic to be proud of modern america. There are hundreds of thousands of homeless while a trillion a year is spent on war.
Captain America wasn't a fascist dupe - he would fight against modern America. The modern world is like the Kingpin took over the WEF and uses the power to control every single western government.

@@Jo_sshhh yes. It’s not like anyone’s called the whole MCU woke. Or all of Hollywood for the last 15 years. They’ve just singled out this one actor. Or even then the ticket sales prove that this is a mainstream opinion. Frankly, one of the ones that did the best was Black Panther, but they didn’t play bait and switch with the main character. Nor was the lead actor be dismissive about Wakanda.
"American"? the Founding Fathers would disagree.
Many (but far from all) black Americans aren’t really American in many ways, they hate the country & as a group haven’t added anything beneficial.

It should have been Bucky. He has similar powers, a similar history, is caps lifelong friend, and had a redemption arc building. The only reason Mackie is cap is DEI. It was the wrong choice from a plot perspective. Now this makes it even worse.
No thanks. The Winter Soldier was a 10/10 movie, modern Hollywood would assassinate that as well. Its basically a death sentence for a franchise to be rebooted/given a sequel these days lol.
Bucky was a brainwashed Hydra terrorist assassin for half a century or so. It couldn't have been Bucky.
@@Blisterdude123right it wasn't his choice. He would not have done that. I think seeing his redemption arc that kind of got started in TFATWS play out with him being Captain America is a missed opportunity. His mental anguish that we got glimpses of in CIvil War and TFATWS was poignant. The scene of him in Wakanda by the fire once he was free of the brainwashing was one of the best MCU scenes ever. I would like to see that guy as Cap.
@ I like a redemption story, but it goes totally against Cap's values and ideals to have put the weight of that mantle on Bucky after all he'd been through and done. One of the few things I did enjoy in TFaTWS was having Bucky realise himself it could never have been him any more. It's about more than a shield and a costume, they saw that in John Walker. Bucky knew as well as Cap did that whether it was his choice or not, his actions Winter Soldier meant he could never truly be Captain America.
The MCU left itself in a situation where Sam doesn't work as Cap, but Bucky wouldn't either. Neither is the right choice, in the story as we got it.
Sam doesn't have Caps super strength but Bucky does and Bucky is his lifelong friend who Steve literally risked everything for. It makes more sense that he would give it to Bucky.
The way Mackie says "America" just drips with disdain.
Literally said America isn't what Captain America represents. He makes absolutely no sense and can't see it

Totally agree. Captain America is symbolic for people in so many ways. The Avengers face literal gods and demons and monsters beyond comprehension, and there's always Steve Rogers running head first in there with his team. Captain America wasn't Captain American Government either, the way he represented America was always about what Americas soul was, and Captain America was the heart of that whole representation.

I should’ve seen a video about this coming from Disparu😆
This is perfect 😆
They actually made an article about why he’s “perfect for Captain America”
And my only thought was “with the way he spits on the name, he’s not perfect for Captain America. He’s only perfect for Disney.”
Question: What does it mean to you to basically be draped in the American flag for this film?
Chris Evans: "Ha, well, to me, I'm not trying to get too lost in the American side of it, this isn't a flag-waving movie. It is red, white, and blue, but it just so happens that the character was created in America during wartime.....cont

@ oh boy….😆
@@Jo_sshhh I think what he said originally is totally fine honestly. He has a good point, Chris Evans doesn't embody Captain America, I don't think many people will argue he did. He didn't advocate for more white rolls, he didn't say him being Captain America and him being white makes it appeal to more people. Chris Evans is an actor, who pretends for a living. As long as he is doing a mostly good job he can get a pass. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier having a lot of plot based on race, probably rubbed people the wrong way to begin with.
@@Jo_sshhh Yeah and he was absolutely right. People watched the movie because he is charismatic and played a hero well. The America part is largely irrelevant to the appeal of the character, its a hero defending his country (and why it was created during wartime to boost morale).
Thanks!🎉 enjoy your work
This makes me sick

@@Jo_sshhh Here's the difference: The time period in which it was said. Even beyond that, there is another difference. Chris Evans said that he's not getting "too lost in the American side of it". He did not say that America should not be part of what describes Captain America. Also, the context of the question being asked is important. He was specifically asked about wearing the American flag and he chose to address the history of the character. Anthony Mackie was asked about the values of Captain America and he said that America wasn't part of who Captain America was and then went on to list values with the implication (not stated, just implied even inadvertently) that they don't apply to America. All he had to do was say that he represents the ideals of America and those are values that are universal. Done.
This movie is already on thin ice for multiple reasons and so the promos for it should be VERY carefully done. Mackie was clumsy and people are ready to believe the worst about anything coming out of Hollywood. That was not the case when Chris Evans spoke about it. The environment is completely different nowadays and that matters.
Imagine if he instead said "anyone who loves America regardless of skin color, can take up the shield and be a Captain America"
I don't think there is anyone left in Hollywood who even knows what a good movie is, much less how to make one.
What's most annoying is, he was the Falcon. He didn't have to be Captain America. if you want to take America out of the equation, why did they put it in to begin with?
Just another reason not to watch CAPTAIN AMERICA's backup.
I will watch it twice and I bring family and friends because Chris Evans said the same thing few years ago.. no outrage this guys says it and even corrects himself but here we are..

Told my 13 yr old grandson Disney destroyed the MCU, Star Trek and Star Wars. He said, wow that's quite an accomplishment! Yes, yes it is.
Steve Rogers is and always will be Captain America for he believed in honor, integrity and trustworthiness so much that he would go against his own teammates and the US government if it meant doing the right thing.

Disney somehow finds the “best” racists for their movies
It's almost weird how many creators I've seen comment on this without bringing up his past statements.
Makes me think Disney really worked hard trying to sell this as a one off.
This is to Disparu's credit for doing his research. He's actually rising to Asmongold's -editors- masters' level lol. I'll be honest, between The Critical Drinker and Disparu, I always preferred TCD except rare instances. This is one of those instances.
Disparu has quickly become my favorite TH-camr so I feel a bit biased. His humor got me hooked before the Willow arc.
I didn't even expect this video to provide me with new information, just some laughs. Almost makes me think my family losing control over England after the death of Hardeknut, son of Canute the Great in 1033 might have been worth it.
The two movie critics I watch are Critical Drinker and Disparu
I watch way to much as TH-cam runs on the TV while I read manga/manwha/manhuas.

I was ambivilent about this guy , now that ove heard his rhetoric I hope this movie flops as bad as Snow White will. So tired of the divisive virtue signal. People who earn as much playing make believe in a single film ( whether it loses money or not) than your average person earns in 30 years of full time actual hard work, lecturing about their victimhood.
Great video Disparu and as a big fan of Captain Britain (especially the Alan Davis run after he was revived in the 1980s), I loved the section on calling Neil Tennant's comments. What a tool.
I really miss being excited about new things. But I’m glad at least I got to have that time.
If it's not about race then why does a black kid have to see a black captain america?
If people stopped constantly talking about race, children would grow up without racial prejudice-because the idea itself wouldn’t even exist in their minds.
Stupid people often pick random categories that make the world easier for them to understand. Race, nationality, hair colour, wealth... there's always going to be stupid people who over-abstract. Just avoid being like them and learn to ignore them and you'll be golden.
Mackie’s the kind of guy Tolkien would call, much like he did a famous dictator, a “little ignoramus” for his disrespect.
This movie had a mixed reception already and now this happens. What happened to “hey come see our new movie you’ll love it it’ll be great!”
' You like it so much you'll watch it twice'
Pretty sure all the hollywood talent either went to write the elections drama or got poached by other countries, its really weird because other countries are producing OG Hollywood-style prime media while America is destroying its legacy.
Mackie just graduated from the Rachel Zegler School of Personally Destroying Your Movie and Career.
Weird I connected to well written characters no matter how they look 😂
Well that's racist and bigoted. You see to be non racist you have to hate all races except your race, that's our brave new world, it's simple
Thank you! Exactly! I relate to Asian characters more nowadays. I saw a Muslim movie that put their faith on the forefront and I related and I am Christian. I relate to the faith. Not something as superficial as their race or even what religion is portrayed.
Chris Evans said nearly the same thing when he took on the role and no one batted an eye
5:35 But also at the same time “black people need to see me, a black man, in order to be able to connect with the character at all”
I imagine that thought process ends in "...because black people are psychotic and devoid of empathy," because that's exactly what that thinking implies. Probably because _they're_ psychotic and devoid of empathy and can't imagine anybody else being thar much better than them. And here I thought _I_ was misanthropic, but my kind of misanthropy is "all people suck, but they don't have to; they _choose_ to suck, and that makes it all the worse because they aren't living up to their potential." Not "people are just animals, and you shouldn't expect much of them because civility isn't in their nature," which seems to be common for a lot of these activists. I see the latter as defeatist and lazy, whereas my version starts everybody at dumpster tier, from which they can rise to their own individual level of virtue.
Isn't that what _real_ representation is about? Representation of ideas? Wasn't the entire point of racial representation to bring in different ways of thinking? Because if so, that went out the window real quick, assuming it wasn't a lie the whole time. A fixation with racial diversity always results in stagnant thinking because you must invariably surround yourself with those who agree that race is more important than ideas. (Y'know... racists.) Your side could be a living human melanin gradient, but if you all think the same, what's the point? It's ideological xenophobia. Meanwhile, the Avengers started with four white men (five in the MCU) and a white woman, and they're so ideologically diverse that they have some kind of falling out in every single continuity that lasts long enough. What's _really_ the better way to gather as many different worldviews as possible into the same room? Racial quotas? Or getting to brass tacks and examining the characters' ideas directly?
Falcon doesn’t deserve the shield and Mackie doesn’t deserve the role of Captain America. Like many, too many actors, Mackie will say and do anything to make bank. 😏
Money is at the job if you are able bodied
Funny how the white guy needed a super serum in order to become Captain America. The black guy doesn’t need that. He is powerful enough without. Lucky the serum didn’t make Chris Evans turn black
Anthony Mackie doesn't need the super soldier serum...he can put his foot in his mouth and his head up his ass all at the same time without it.
He just needed tech from a super elitist, rich African tribe that built walls to keep the illegals out while doing nothing to help others. 😂
He has a natural PCP gland
What does he mean Captian America doesn't represent America? Its in his effing name..
14:53 “we will force them to think and vote how we want” is what he said
My nephew can connect to puppies running the town. Like one puppy is in charge of the whole fire department. The dogs don’t look like him at all.
Just like I connected to adolescent mutated reptiles that learned martial arts. I’m not green and normally don’t have a shell.
After this video and the evidence presented, I'm now convinced Mackie and his people made Marvel give him the mantle because they said, "Make Mackie Cap or we will call you all racist." Which explains why the Russos LEFT Marvel, because I think they wanted to make Bucky the new Cap.
Some actors forget that it's just a job.
I have no desire to see this Captain America because thieve showed him ranting about race and how hard it is to be black so it will just be more of the same.
In all honesty, I haven't bothered to waste money on any movies made by Hollywood in at least 10 years. The quality is just so lacking. I'm saying this as an American; I am getting very tired of being called racist...by people who are racist. The more these people harp on about their agendas, the less I care about them and the problems they invented.
I still say Falcon isnt a good candidate to replace the icon of American values. Falcon is basically a mercenary who follows money above justice... ... wait...
Jokes aside, that was a massive marketing fumble. Congrats to whoever forgot to give him a script for that interview.
So Cap knew one friend for 80 years, his best friend, and another he knew for 3 years...and he chose the one he knew for 3 years over his childhood friend of 80 years?...
That is your DEI at work.
As an American, I’m pretty sick of this “America’s not special” attitude coming out of Hollywood celebrities in particular (it’s one of the reasons we voted the “evil guy back into office). Sure, America has never been perfect, but it is DEMONSTRABLY the greatest country to ever exist. No nation or empire has ever been as wealthy, had the overwhelming military might and reach, or the wold wide cultural and financial influence . Not in all of human history. That’s not me being merely patriotic - those are facts. So ….. shouldn’t all of us HOPE TO GOD America stands for the values that Mr. Mackie said Cap stands for? Isn’t that the point? Cap stands for the values we Americans want our country to stand for - not it’s politics, government, and political leaders which can be at odds with the ideals we strive for. I think Mr. Mackie misunderstands what Cap actually represents.
I just wish it was easier for me as an Australian to move over there and become a citizen
Ever noticed how when America wins a war against somebody (Britan, Germany, Japan), they become an economic superpower relevant all over the world, but whenever America loses to somebody (Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan), they become a war-torn hellhole and take decades to rebuild and catch up to the rest of the world? Just an observation.
It's not even about America being special or not, it's about him not being patriotic at all.
Did Anthony Mackie really think he was winning points with Europe by being anti-american? I'm European and I was disgusted by his absolute lack of patriotism, while playing the role of a character that's all about patriotism. Him hating his own country it's just sad and pathetic.
