“He doesn’t have the dedication” is so stupid because Bruce is literally so dedicated to being Batman in this movie that he isn’t being Bruce Wayne. He IS the cowl at this point and he learns to grow out of that by the end.

@ Yeah it’s almost like that makes this Batman valid. Also other Batmen have at least used their philanthropy to an extent and had a playboy persona, but this Bruce is so dedicated to the cowl he doesn’t even have time for that. This version is so in deep to his mission that it’s consuming him. We might’ve seen that a few times in comics, but never in film.

Yeah, this Batman is basically on a death trip when the movie starts. He doesn't care if he dies, he wants to be in the suit all the time, never wants to be seen in public as Bruce Wayne, only goes in public as Bruce Wayne to do daytime Batman stuff, and is stuck in this cycle of repetitive nightly combat that isn't having the larger effect he'd hoped for. He's becoming disillusioned.
And it's ultimately the fact that the larger effect he *does* inspire is a terroristic campaign of political assassinations, that causes him to realize that he has to inspire trust and hope in the good people of Gotham, as much as he inspires fear in criminals. That fear and vengeance alone cannot win his war against the criminal element. It's a great arc for a damaged vigilante taking the first steps toward being a real hero. And bad takes on the movie tend to miss it completely. Even though it's pretty much the entire point.

@@donnerbohne7695 Because it is .. Although I also think that movie is extremely overrated. It's also just as messy and bloated as The Batman .. That said, it's still way more entertaining and engaging. The Dark Knight for me has always been a frustrating watch, but I do own a copy and have watched it more than a few times throughout the years. The Batman however I had to watch in two sittings and never had any urge to ever see it again, and much less interested what they're going to do with 'part 2'. I'd say Batman Begins absolutely destroys The Batman on every level even though it's obviously incorporating some of the elements that made that movie great. Anyone who thinks The Batman is better than that movie is either completely delusional or just another goofy zoomer whose opinions aren't really worth much anyway. There are some things to like about The Batman, but it still just ends up being some boring police style procedural with some dude in a goofy costume looking at greeting cards. It's trying to be gritty and grounded but just ends up being pretentious and boring. As far as 'character development' goes .. I didn't care about any of the characters by the end of The Batman and was so happy it was over. Had to watch The Road Warrior to cleanse the palate after that one. 😂

Unpopular opinion: I prefer Robert Pattinson’s Batman over Christian Bale’s Batman.
Bale’s Batman spent way too much time getting overshadowed by the villains, has a terrible fighting skills and didn’t do any detective work. And that wasn’t even his fault. It’s Nolan’s fault for not giving him a proper characterization.
The Dark Knight is a Joker movie. The Dark Knight Rises is a Bane movie, until it isn’t.
The Batman is truly a Batman movie.

I feel like nobody else ever points this out, but Bruce's attitude towards Alfred feels heavily influenced by what he's been through that night. He witnesses a young boy who lost his father, is ruminating about how his work doesn't seem to be having an effect on the city, sees a report mentioning that the anniversary of his parents' death is coming up that week, and THEN Alfred comes in acting frustrated and trying to push him into doing Bruce Wayne stuff.
Of COURSE Bruce is annoyed. I doubt he would have said "you're not my father" to Alfred on any other night, he's just in a very emotionally vulnerable state.
Also, their final scene together has him apologizing to Alfred about his behavior and more or less outright saying "I love you" to him and they *hold each other's hands!*

Yes, Bruce trains and studies with many gurus to master his mind and body. But he never had to APPLY what he learned in his travels to his crume fighting. So naturaly, even with all that knowledge, he could possibly still fall victim to his emotions and make mistakes when he's starting out as Batman.

The problem with fans like this is that they want everything surface-level of Batman to be adapted, not what makes him compelling. As a Batman fan, I love that he's a flawed detective, a flawed hero, and a flawed human being. I connect more to Bruce that way.

My only rebuttal to people who complain about “comic accuracy” is that these comic book movies and shows are adaptations of the comics. They are not mean to be 1 to 1 with them. Hell even different comic runs in different eras/universes handle Batman in slightly different ways. Yes this Batman isn’t as honed in as comic Batman, but he did train. In the prequel novel he travels to several countries while attending differing schools and in those countries he trains in their specific martial arts. (I think that’s what happens it’s been a while since I’ve watched a review on it). Alfred also trained him a bit as well. And to say he’s “untrained” is CRAZY. NO ONE in The Batman bests him in combat the only time he gets knocked down for a while is because he took a damn 12 gauge to the chest.

Batman's had so many distinct iterations in the comics, the "it's not accurate" criticisms have become increasingly hollow. It's not even universal to every Batman continuity that he traveled the world, learning countless forms of martial arts, before becoming Batman. Just that he trained. In The Batman, it's clear that Alfred taught Bruce to fight, utilizing his background as an agent for British intelligence. Was there more to his training? Probably. Does it matter? Not really. This idea that Batman has to be this perfect ideal, just means this guy hates character arcs. Virtually everything he complains about is *literally the point of the movie.*

In fact, I think it's better to have different and unique stories from each other than repeat the exact same thing over and over. With this guy specifically, I don't get why he wants batman to be perfect from the start of the movie, isn't great character development a crucial part of a great story?

When I first saw The Batman, I honestly didn't like it very much. I thought the cinematography and acting were great, but I just had a hard time following the politics and the themes of the story. It wasn't until after I watched it a few more times and watched other people's videos on it that I started liking it a lot more. Because I know I don't have an easy time deconstructing a movie's plot or message, it helps to have someone explain it to me. I can admit that I am (at least somewhat) media illiterate. And that is perfectly fine. But don't hate on a movie and say "iT dIdN't MaKe SeNcE! iT wAs A bAd FiLm!" Just because you didn't pay attention to it or just didn't understand it.
    P.S.
I thought of a fun way to tease a future batfam. I added a scene to the movie where Jim Gorden is upset because he had to pick up his daughter, Barbara (about 13 years old), from school because she got suspended for fighting. He asks her why she got into another fight, and she tells him that the kids she beat up were picking on this one girl in a wheelchair, and she brags about taking on 4 at once and that they all walked away worse than she did (even though she got her ass beaten). He gives her the "I'm disappointed in you" speech and then smirks and winks at her, showing her that he's proud of her and she smirks back at him, showing him she understands. Maybe she's even wearing a homemade purple and yellow batman shirt. But, maybe that's overkill.

“This movie is bad because Batman loses.” Isn’t the Dark Knight, which is widely considered the best Batman movie of all time, a movie where Bruce out and out loses.
Regarding you point about Batfleck. Yeah. At least by the end of Batman returns we see Bruce has come to realize that that kind vengeance won’t make him feel better and thus he tries to stop Selina from killing Max and in the next movie stop Dick from killing Two-Face. Batflek doesn’t even get that. He just decides to stop trying to kill “Superman”, keeps killing for the rest of the movie and then randomly decides not to brand “Lex” despite the fact that “Lex” was the one paying people to kill the Bat branded people anyway.

I'm sorry but if I'm chilling in the club and a 6ft tall man dressed in a Batsuit just starts beating the shit out of security on his way to the vip section, my ass is scared. What is this guy on about? At one point I was waiting for him to be like , " Pattinson didn't even say he was batman like Michael Keaton would have. 2 out of 10 man."

I find it funny how he is saying that Batman has to be perfect but the whole point the character was created was to show that anyone can be a hero. That a human being with no powers could be a superhero. And what makes us human, our flaws and imperfections

I can’t take serious any complaints about “comic-accurate” Batman movie depictions. The character has been around for like 85 years. There’s no set-in-stone version of Batman in the comics, and there hasn’t been for a very long time at this point. You get his core elements: Bruce Wayne’s billionaire parents are murdered in front of him when he’s a kid, he decides to dress in a bat-themed costume with a cape and pointy-eared cowl, and he fights injustice (usually crime). He’s a detective. He uses gadgets.
Does Batman kill? Use a gun? Mostly no, but he originally did. What color is his costume? Black, gray, charcoal, blue, purple, fuckin rainbow? It’s been all of those. Does he even have a butler? Not originally.
If you get upset about comic-accuracy in Batman movies, you have plenty to love about all of them, must absolutely fuckin hate Batman Returns, and must fucking adore the 60’s series.
Also, he’s right about one thing. Affleck was the best Batman. Pattinson is right behind. Live-action I mean. Obviously Kevin Conroy is the best. That may seem subjective, but if you say he’s not, we’ll fight, and God will decide the truth of it.

Well first of all, I don't like the dark Knight Batman. I liked the Joker from it, but that's pretty much the only character I liked the changes to. He seemed more like an actual person that you could see existing. This new Batman just seems like a cosplay. Not a guy that grew up against the world and wanting to make a change in his town. Just a guy that didn't know what he was doing, but he wanted to dress like a bat.

These people are insane! This was my favorite Batman, it shows him still very new to being a vigilante and still figuring it out while also figuring himself out, still learning. He’s also more of a detective in this than in ANY of the live action movie. But it shows him more of a human being than some super strong, super agile man that’s like peak human physical ability. It’s grounded in reality and it’s probably more faithful to the character than any other film. I was highly critical of the movie, but it was really good, everything was amazing about the film imo.
