  • Here is the #1 exercise you need to be doing if you’ve got hand or finger arthritis.
    I highly recommend you get a grip strengthener to help you with this.
    Hand grip strengthener - amzn.to/3m9X85o
    Hand putty does not usually provide enough resistance to strengthen the hand and finger muscles. It’s usually only graded to give 1-10 pounds of force.

    I just want to say that Dr. Middaugh is a genius. I had severe back pain where I couldn’t even get out of bed and I was only 30. He took the time to get to know me and took his time when diagnosing my back. He even remembered me 7 years later when I saw him at Wal Mart and asked about all the things we talked about years back. If you have issues, go see him. Love this man and what he did for my quality of life. Thank you, Dr. Dave, hope things are well!

    I have arthritis in my hands and worst of all in both thumbs (who knew how bad that is). I wanted to say that I have an old squeezer like this and got it out. Amazingly I can grip my coffee bean hand grinder and grind with almost no pain now, but I think what you are doing is way too aggressive for most people wanting help with hand pain. I am trying three reps for 10 sec per hand and am still not sure if this helps with pain or if it makes the pain worse, but the hands stronger. My belief is that pain and strong hands is better than pain and weak hands, though I think there is a limit to how hard you can push.

    Hello
    So I'm very very curious about this. How can something like this be helpful when isn't this kind of thing the very reason our joints with this kind repetitive resistance caused us to be in this situation in the first place. Aren't we just further irritating the affected finger joint arthritis and wouldn't that infact make is worse?
    Please help me understand.
    Steve.

    Would it be okay to do both hands simultaneously, or probably too difficult to give each hand necessary focus, or not rec'd for another reason? Thanks very much for such a user-friendly video--one of sooo many⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❣ I've been wondering lately if using my index finger so much to tap ipad screen & to tap out letters on its external keypad may be what has caused increase in top knuckle's bulge (don't have cellphone, tho)➡I think your answered that question🎯& so I will get started w/this practice.

    I have a heberden node on my left baby finger, and weakness and pain associated with it. Everything else seems fine. The problem is, I'm a singer-songwriter-guitarist, and that's my fretting hand. Now I can't do certain chords (bar chords, things involving the baby finger like suspended fourths) without pain... will this exercise help? Can see its value for general grip strength, but that specific joint including the finger tip... hmm.

  • @edj7234
    @edj7234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've purchased the handgrip you have recommended and tried to follow your instructions - I have been careful to place the grip in the right place below my fingers so that I don't 'cheat' with my fingers but keeping my thumb loose seems impossible - my thumb takes over and I think is doing most of the work ! Do you have any tips on how to keep my thumb more relaxed when using the grip strengthener?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey EDJ! Good for you that you bought the gripper and are doing the exercise!
      Using your thumb is not a bad thing - as long as you keep your thumb tip from cheating too. If you're not using your thumb tip, and you feel your thumb muscle still working quite a bit, then it likely means that that is your weakest muscle in your hand. It's ok and you need to still do the exercise to help your hand and finger arthritis.

Unfortunately it has sold out, so if they are suitable, would I be able to purchase them from elsewhere, or recommend like for like?Thank you so much.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Deanna!!! Yes! It does help trigger finger...but progress is very slow. You'll have to exercise your hand for months to see the finger loosen up. It also depends how bad your trigger finger is. It will take longer if it is more severe.
