The disfigurment of my finger joints has been going on since 2001 ish. So 23 years and now the pain has started. I have so much hope after listening and reading all the comments. Thank you everyone. Together we can overcome or at the very least minimize our struggles.
    Forever grateful

    Very interesting!
I got rid of my pain in wrists and fingers, and I can say that four of my friends repeated it. Two things:
    1) Related to what you mentioned :)
These days our packaged food is loaded with sugar, refined carbs, cheap vegetable seed oils that cause insulin resistance and chronic inflammation. Quit using that, return to the food your great grand parents ate. Too bad that over 90% of the supermarket isles are a no go area... All this food promotes inflammation, and yes, arthritis IS inflammation 🔥
    2) Almost no doctor knows this, but some pharmacists perhaps know it.. In countries where the soil has no BORON (an element with properties close to Silicon), like Haiti, arthritis is abundant.
In areas where Boron is mined, and it is in drinking water and vegetation, almost no arthritis occurs, like in Israel, Turkey and some areas in the USA.
I make my own supplement, a low dose of boron in water. After 4-8 weeks I was pain free, and this works for 70-80% of people. Do your own research! Don't believe me on my blue eyes, everybody is responsible for his/her own health!
You may search and download pdf's "Nothing boring about Boron" and "The Boron conspiracy".
Then there is a Dr. Jorge Flechas with presentations on TH-cam. Very interesting and useful. You have to be persistent, but you'll find him.
    Again, it worked for me.
So: Avoid inflammation and insulin resistance, those are leading causes for inflammation, disease and early death.
Having said that: if you smoke, or use alcohol: QUIT doing that.. Not helpful.
If you can, quit or minimize pain medication like Tylenol, Ibuprofen. It is a burden for your liver.
Also stop using all the bad vegetable oils, only saturated oils are ok, butter ok, avocado, coconut, olive oil ok. Bad are rape seed, canola, cottonseed, soy, sunflower oils, margarine. They are easily oxidized and promote chronic inflammation.
I hope you are not a vegan or vegetarian, meat is ok, processed meat only occasional. Forget the junk food, prepare your own stuff with products your great great grandmother would use. Eggs are super, if you can afford organic source. Seeds like pumpkin and sunflower seeds are good, some nuts, if you like it: fatty fish! Caught, not farmed.
If you use refined carbs and sugar, quit those as much as possible.. Not easy, I know. Treat yourself as being diabetic, unless you lived a healthy life.
I do intermittent fasting, I always skip breakfast. Oh, bread and cereals, cookies, cakes, deserts, sweets, most chocolate, sweet fruit, sodas are refined carbs too ❌
If you use medicines, find out for yourself what undesired effects they may have.. In that case do your own research for better alternatives and discuss this with your doctor. Never make changes without medical advice.
As said. I use Boron, that is a great supplement for bones! It regulates calcium, magnesium and phosphor. Also regulates testosterone, estrogen, and helps your brain. It is anti-inflammatory, and anti-molds. May help sleeping better.
*Very good against osteoporosis, when combined with vit D3 (best amounts above 4000 IU daily), K2 (most important, at least 100 micrograms per day, use the MK7 form), magnesium. at least 350 milligrams per day. Please note that when you are on Warfarin or Coumarin type blood thinners, you have to task to your doctor to change to another type of blood thinner. K2 and these drugs cannot be combined*
I make my own Boron supplement. I purchased borax on the internet. Some $10=€10 per kg, this is good for 30 years of use! Dead cheap!!
I dissolve 10 grams borax in 500 ml water. 1 ml solution contains 2 mg of active Boron. I take 5 ml daily, that equals 10 mg elemental Boron.
Most important is healthy food and doing your own searches on Google and TH-cam. 🙏🏻💚

I do have one bad arthritic finger and mild in my hands, and like yourself, I was advised to take BORON, and did and after two months the reduction in pain and swelling is at about 80%. I still have the nodes, but they are reduced in size, so I assume that where I live is Boron deficient.

    • @rredding
      @rredding ปีที่แล้ว

@@pamelastorer8570 Hi Pamela, Boron is anti-inflammatory. Most people have some kind of low-grade inflammation, without knowing it. It is usually caused by the diet. We became used at buying lots of products in our supermarkets that didn't exist in the time our great grand parents lived. Since then, we became used at "vegetable oils" like sunflower oil, rapeseed-, peanut-, soy- safflower- and other oils. We fry in it, restaurants use it and to us it's completely normal, but it's not! Same for margarine: they are bad and cause this low grade chronic inflammation.
This is because they react with the oxygen in the air and actually become rancid. This can also happen in your body. They also contain a lot of omega 6 fats. Your body needs them in low amounts, but we get way to much, and that also promotes information.
Healthy are (grass fed) butter, avocado oil, coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil. Also fatty fish, cod liver oil, or vegan algae oils are important, they reduce inflammation!
Then sugar, artificial sweeteners and refined carbs like ice cream, desserts, pastas, cookies etc. They raise insulin in your body, which has nasty results in the long run.
If you are able, do your own research. Google low grade chronic inflammation and you may learn what causes your arthritis problems. Boron is a good helper, and lack of it results in this problem, but eating like they did 150 years ago will improve your health!
Sadly enough, 80-90% of your supermarket contains all this packaged stuff with long ingredients lists that doesn't help you. I avoid them! 💚

I completely get that. I've got small hands and they used to be nice. Now they feel ugly. I cannot wear any of my lovely rings any longer. I've had my wedding and engagement rings resized several times. Its the knuckle they can't get over, and if they are resized for that, they are loose on my finger. To get my wedding ring off now, I would need to get it cut off. The only thing that I feel I can do is to always have my nails looking decent which helps me feel my hands are not so ugly.

I have been issued with a wrist binder for wearing overnight. There is absolutely no way I will now sleep without them!. I wake without pain! My Dad used to use wax baths and swore by them. @@PhysioMSKimagine reversing OA entirely. We do not imagine it, we have done so for all joints over a period of 30 years including those of the finger, thumb, and wrist. There is only one treatment that will regenerate joint tissue and that is properly executed regenerative treatments with a few protocols. Yes, we cure these conditions. Unfortunately I cannot guide you to us because it’s unethical to do so on someone’s channel but you can start by looking into micro injury of ligaments and tendons. Note: We don’t recommend stem cell for joints and most orthopods do not perform anything close to what is needed. This is why you don’t know that an alternative exists. Good luck with your mind getting blown! If you were in our clinic for a a couple of months, you would be more than amazed. it’s humbling to see what the body really can do, it is the solution (with a little bit of stimulus in the right direction).

If you go under the knife for carpal tunnel it will come back.

    • @ToddDouglasFox
      @ToddDouglasFox ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Agapy8888 all peripheral nerves can regrow. This is why you say it “comes back”. The determination of the underlying cause for carpal tunnel is the a priori error. Again, look into regeneration of the wrist or any joint, (no stem cell). Nerves do NOT feel, they conduct. Figure out where 95% of the nerve fibers are in the musculoskeletal, therein lies your solution. Yes there is compression of the nerve but it is NOT the cause of the syndrome. The surgery is to remove the tissues that hold the joint, so it’s not the same as nerve ablation, in which the nerve grows back and then conducts pain again. But in either case, destroying the tissues that hold the joint, i.e., ligaments or ablation, burning of certain nerves, (for example in the back), the nerves can conduct pain signals once again after surgery.

This might only be wishful thinking but I have found some kind of emotional relief through gaining mobility through the exercises done while learning how to play the piano. Like going through the Hanon method exercises. Obviously this will not apply to all types of arthritis, nor to all degrees of development of the condition nor to really everybody, I am just hoping that my comment will help as many people as possible because it did help me feel better through a more agile mobility of my fingers. Plus I have fun playing the piano, additionally. There has been a notable difference vs when I started, in mobility of my fingers I mean.

I have symptoms of nodal finger arthritis, in addition to symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, and talked to my doctor about it. I saw the doctor twice, actually. She did some tests, including a blood test. Diagnosis: um...nothing, really. Get a different pillow and do some neck exercises (there is evidence some of my problems stem from my neck). My chiropractor told me it was osteoarthritis and told me to take vitamin B6. I haven't had the money to get on a regular regimen of nutritional supplements which could help me. But, I am still annoyed that my doctor did not recognize classic symptoms of either osteoarthritis or carpal tunnel.

I find that wearing compression arthritis gloves when my hands hurt helps a lot. I usually wear them at night which is when my hands seem to hurt the most. I often only need to wear them a couple of hours and the pain subsides to its usually dull feeling instead acute and sometimes shooting pains. They come almost to the ends of my fingers and cover that last joint. However, If you've got giant hairy dogs like me, they aren't too practical to be wearing around the house during the day because they are a hair magnet and before I know it, they are covered in dog hair! Wearing that in bed at night is the lesser of two evils!! I've got two pairs. I bought them on Amazon and they were only around $20. One of the things that help me is to put on some normal dishwashing rubber gloves and place my hands in hot water. I don't bother with olive oil because it's messy and I don't think it's necessary. I do type a lot and I believe that does keep my hands from seizing up completely. For most of my working life in an office I typed for various reasons and so thats probably helped. Even now that I work for myself, I still use the keyboard a lot. It doesn't help my back much, but my hands, certainly! I
I've asked about having joints replaced in my hands and I was told it wasn't possible to do. Yet I've heard of other people having replacement joints in fingers etc. If they can replace joints in other parts of the body, why not hands? Many years ago a cousin of mine had finger joints replaced. Our hands are one of the most important things in our every day lives. My nodal osteoarthritis which is in both hands and affects all fingers badly, to the point where some are bent downwards and sideways, but hardly my thumbs (I know not why) affects my everyday life to the point of me not being able to do certain things. As I run my own business still, I need to be able to use my hands and it is affecting me greatly that I can't.

They can replace the PIP and MCP joints, but not they DIP joints which they can fuse instead if needed. Injections are often worth trying first though as they can be very helpful in settling down a flare up of joint pain and the results can often last for years.

Hello. If your symptoms are tingling in the little or ring fingers then it is more likely a nerve condition. The most common causes are either a trapped nerve in the neck or in the elbow. In the elbow it’s called ‘cubital tunnel syndrome’ and I’ve done another video all about that including the treatment options. I would suggest watching that first.

Recently realized i am now older than she was when i started living with her and so far, i have no arthritis in my hands. A few years back i started having pain in my right hand thumb that bothered me but i started taking a supplement that i cant really spell or remember the ehole name of it but part of its name was chodritum (?). My memory is not reliable about the name. Took a pill daily. Used up two big bottles and then i didnt have to money to buy more. But that was ok because the thumb joint hasnt bothered me since. My index finger has a joint near the nail that has started getting bigger. No pain but im concerned.

      @PhysioMSK  ปีที่แล้ว +6

Hi Susan. The supplement you took was probably Glucosamine with Chondroitin. Some people find it helpful but it’s worth has never been proven in large clinical trials which is why I didn’t recommend it. The new bump in the joint near the nail will probably be an osteoarthritic Heberdens Node but if you are concerned then best to get it checked out. Best wishes. Stephen.

I started developing Bouchard nodes in the last 2 months of my pregnancy about 6 years ago.
I think this may be in part due to general swelling as well as the fact that my blood sugars went up unusually high the last two months of my first pregnancy.
Can Bouchard nodes, in any way shape or form, ever be surgically removed?
This makes me very self conscious about my hands especially since I used to have model-like hands and fingers 💅.

Hi. No they can’t be removed surgically I’m afraid. But if the swelling came up in pregnancy then they might not be Bouchards nodes. They might just be joint swelling. You’d need an X-ray to be sure.

However, the most recent formation is in my index finger in the middle joint, and I cannot bend it completely, and anything I do with my right hand, which is my riding hand is painful. Just sitting here is painful. And it’s the whole length of the finger that’s painful and not just the joint. I’ve even had to stop crocheting and knitting for about a month because the pain is so great.

It depends how long it's been bent for, how bad the angle of bend is and how severe the arthritis is on X-Ray. The only option other than surgery is to stretch the joint regularly every day. If there is any potential to improve the degree of bend then you should notice a very slow improvement over a few months. Hi Stuart. Many thanks the feedback. Yes, I’ve heard people report good results from dietary changes over the years but when this has been researched in clinical trials the benefits are not supported. As my channel aims to promote research backed treatments only, I have to unfortunately exclude many treatments which some people might find beneficial to them but in the wider arena are unproven.
      Best wishes. Stephen.

I have the same result when I keep sugar/carbohydrates at a low level. If I have some sugar intake I have an immediate flair up

Hopefully he might find some relief by following some of the treatments discussed. If his fingers are ‘sticking’ though, he might have a different problem called trigger finger. I have another video on the channel all about this and it’s worth a watch because it’s a much easier condition to treat and get better than arthritis.

@@PhysioMSK is there anything he can do to slow down the progression of it ? So far he’s negative on all the tests you mentioned . The dr said degenerative arthritis . I feel so bad for him he’s only 65

Following the advice on the video will help get the best out of his finger joints but unfortunately there is no cure. I often find that the pain improves with age though, mainly because the joints stiffen and can eventually fuse (particularly the end joints) and when they stop moving they stop hurting. But also because activity levels reduce with age. Nearly every 80 year old will have finger osteoarthritis but most won’t be very painful.

    Really well presented. Thank you!!!
My situation is a breaking down of the cartilage that speaks loudly when I type (as I'm doing now) or playing piano or buttoning my shirt. When I got diagnosed a couple weeks back, it was not a good day.
Sometimes when I used tape around my DIP joint, it would become even more stiff and tender. Like you predicted, resistance exercises tend to flare it up. So far I've been icing, but I'll try the heat idea. I suppose just dipping in hot water might work too, right? I'll also try the Coban tape idea. I suppose KT tape is similar? About 1 month back I saw this video and tried her approach. th-cam.com/video/VyrPsd1OfCE/w-d-xo.html. It didn't work very well for me.

It’s about management rather than cure. The DIP joints are rarely painful in the long term though. They slowly stiffen and eventually fuse. At that point they usually don’t hurt any more. And so long as the PIP and MCP joints on the same finger are generally ok, a fused DIP won’t be a problem. Coban is much better than K tape as it’s far more elastic. Heat (the wax bath can really help) is often useful. I hope you find something that works for you. Best wishes. Stephen.

Go to the root cause... carbs, sugar, fructose. KETO diet monitors osteo & rheumatoid arthritis, all flare ups and pain disappear...
