  • Knee pain is usually caused by weak glutes. Knee problems like knee arthritis, knee cartilage problems, meniscus injuries, ligament tears, and many other conditions share a common root condition where the glute muscles are relatively weak and cannot properly control the knee joint.
Getting stronger glutes should directly allow the knee to feel better because it will balance out the strength between the glutes and the quad muscles. Balancing out these 2 muscle groups is important because if the quads are too dominant between the 2, then there will be too much pressure on the knee joint. When the quadricep muscles are too strong, then it’s just a matter of time before something hurts in the knee joint area.
Dr. David takes you through exercising your glutes without equipment and all in standing in case you have trouble getting onto your knees.

I have suffered with knee pain for over 15 years. Despite conventional treatment from my doctor, it never got better. I have been doing these exercises for about a month now and have no more knee pain! I don't need pain medication anymore and my activity tolerance is improving considerably. Thank you so much for this video - you have changed my life for the better. I appreciate you!

I am just starting these exercises. But my question is that I was given a machine that swings the legs back and forth. I have meniscus tears according to the MRI. To have some relaxing exercise, could I use that machine? I know it doesn’t replace your glutton exercises but I just wondered if this machine will help or hurt my knees.

Yes, you do feel so much less knee paing. I live in NYC, a walking town and turning my feet out 45 degrees in walking and going up and down stairs has made a BIG difference. Before doing these exercises, I used to brace myself for the pain that came with going from sit to stand, not to mention a flight of stairs would make me want to cry.
Add the glute squeezes and other exercises Dr. David teaches has made me not afraid to do stairs, walk etc.
      All the best to you!

I have had knee surgery on both knees several years ago. Was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my left knee which is as causing severe pain. Shots helped but only lasted a couple months. My Husband found your videos & we both started using the glute strengthening exercises just this last Monday - so 5 days now. I have noticed an extreme improvement in my knee & my pain level went from a 9 to a 3. So thankful that my Husband found you!!!!! I am in my late 60’s & very active so continuing with these exercises will help me continue with my quality of life!! Thank you so much!!!!

Profuse thank you, Dr. David Middaugh, for your very effective glutes exercises. I have started the daily exercises on 5 January 2023, and the pain in my left knee relented 5 days later. And now, one month later, having been doing the glutes strengthening exercises, my left leg without the knee pain feels like new! Prior to this, I eliminated from my left leg piriformis muscle pain confused for sciatica! As I walk, I keep exercising my glutes to prevent the knee pain returning. Life is so much more joyful without pain! Thank you!

I'm definitely in stage 4 with no cartilage left, so they tell me. Been getting the shots for about 3 years, but recently, and suddenly, the knee pain had gone parabolic. My ortho has told me I need the replacement, but for some reason, something is telling me not to do it. Thank goodness I found your videos. I've been doing the exercises for less than a week and taking the glucosamine/chondroitin supplements. Lo and behold, I can put the cane down around the house and for short walks with the dog, PAIN FREE! I plan to stick with these and will go on to review your other recommendations about diet and supplements. I am amazed and very grateful.

After just a few weeks of tightening my glutes walking up hills, I am amazed how much less stress is on my knees now and all the cracking and crunching noises in the knee joint are disappearing. Thank goodness for your videos. I am sold on really concentrating on the glutes for all sorts of activities throughout the day and I realise now that when I started to lose my butt area, that's when the knees started to suffer. Thanks so much for these glute exercises. I have been using them and they really work. My knee recovering pain from an MCL tear of 14 months ago is feeling better as I get up & down from sitting & climbing steps. I’m 76 yr old grandmother that loves to be active however after both knees being replaced in 3 years & this MCL tear I felt like my active life was over. Thank God I now believe I will be able to enjoy life again with minor pain after so much previous pain. Thanks El Paso Rehab

Brother, my 🙏 are answered...this is the third video I have had the pleasure of viewing.
I'm in my fifties, been active, and had my fair share of pain. I do Daily climbing. Your teaching is very clear, and well presented. I have sought many, many numerous physios, yoga techniques, pain management, non of them, over the years have explained so well.....honestly!
You make so much sense, I have NEVER ( felt), a result of your explanations....such confidence in my walking, and climbing , as I do , thanks to your unique gift of clarity, and passion for helping others....thank you 😊.
    God bless you 🙏.

I’ve been having knee pain since forever. I was given cortisone injections but the pain went away for a day or two and goes right back to not being able to walk. After watching a lot of these videos, I’m now able to walk better. It’s not completely gone but I feel better from the short time I’ve been doing these exercises than years of seeing doctors. THANK YOU! You’re a lifesaver ❤

Everyday I try to strengthen my calfs, hamstrings, quads, hips but no one emphasize our glutes muscles strength specifically. I can pratice these any time eventhough i have knee pain and IT WORKS!!!

Hi there Doctor. I have been carrying out the 3 excercises for knee arthritic pain with bone to bone on my left knee, the pain has improved greatly, thanks to you. I use my glute muscles when using stairs and find it really helps. A question, how can I reduce the bone to bone noisy rubbing when walking? Thank you so much. 🙂

I always go have a second or third opinion with surgeons. The first surgeon, found two meniscus tears, one a root tear, he did an arthroscope, he said one knee needed a full replacement, the second a half knee replacement. I went to another surgeon who is well know as an excellent knee surgeon, he said no that’s not needed, he did a lot of tests.
He said a lot of my pain was coming from a very bad back injury I had years ago. He was right, I still have sore knees and nerve pain in both legs, I’m on meds. I’m now starting these exercise. Thanks David, so very glad I found you. 🙏

    • @wendyhannan2454
      @wendyhannan2454 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@wallynut1682 Sorry they all seem to want you to stop smoking. My Dad decades ago had back surgery, he was a heavy smoker back then, the surgeons didn’t really care about you being a smoker. My Dad used to smoke in his hospital bed. Haha, hard to believe these days. My Dad lived to be 88 years old. Had he not been a smoker, he would of lived to be a 100, he stopped smoking at 80. Smoking killed him in the end.
