    I have a Virpil stick (WarBRD base + constellation) and throttle - Mongoose 50CM2. I have absolutely zero complaints, apart from the month or so of delivery time. Good to see that they're maintaining the quality of standards for their products.

    Two-Way Switches: You can activate all button positions by selecting "Reset buttons logical setup" in the buttons tab and THEN manually re-assign all buttons. This way you can split the Two-way switches into two buttons AND you can activate the button functionality for the Mode Selector knob while still being able to function as a 'Shift'-button. I do advise to simply assign the SAME Logical button number to the Physical button as this is more in line with the Button Mapping Template. It is important to know that ALL button bindings in games will change: e.g. Physical button 1 is press down on the left rotary knob, but VPC default logical bind is 'Button 6'.

      Thanks for the sub and the feedback! I have to admit that the alphas are looking to be quite attractive as an option. Part of me wants to convert to dual-stick, but my time is balanced between both DCS and SC. So it becomes a struggle to find a way to easily swap out a collective for helicopters, a throttle for fighters, and a dual-stick for star citizen. First world problems I guess haha

      Logitech really doesn't care about their flight sim hardware. They lost all respect from me. They took whatever Saitek was doing and ruined it with cheaper labor and the cheapest parts you could get. I bought an X-56 throttle used that was promised as fixed from ghosting, which was attempted, but not truly achieved.
      I fixed the ghosting myself twisting the cables, setting them at the proper angels with one another and using ferules at the end.
      I got a much better response but the throttles STILL ghost when you need them the most from time to time.
      Even the Hall sensors at the top two axis were messy.
      Stay away from Logitech as much as you can.

    I came back here just to figure out how to do the flap to configure the F-15C module. Haven't gotten into the expensive modules yet as I want to learn how to fly better before I get into cockpit button engineer mode. I love this throttle. My ONLY issue is the slider (3rd finger digit on the throttle) has a terrible center 0. Deadzones (2-10)
    don't help.
    The software was laid out by an engineer. Its very flexible and yes, there is an acceptable learning curve just as there are more plug n play options.

    • @Hav0k
      @Hav0k  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely understandable! It's honestly one of those things that I think is worth it, but if their are cheaper alternativatives out there that don't cost much, maybe such as the Winwing, I would go that route if the cost is too high.

      All of the internal mechanics are Aircraft-grade Duralumin. As far as I understand the shell it's extremely high grade thick ABS plastic.
      Yes, Winwing are low inertia aluminum which is pretty neat, but both of them are extremely solid and stout. Unless you're truly abusing your peripherals it doesn't matter that much with the quality they both provide.

  • @gokuta333
    @gokuta333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Stupid question since i don't have a CM3, and i've been wondering this for a while but can't you use the rotary encoder (The one that sits under the 5way pyramid hat switch that would be above your thumb) for zoom? I don't think i would use the thick one for the pinky for zoom since it seems a bit out of reach and a good option for older aircraft systems or tilting the radar up and down. Also, is there no way to make the slider on the back less sensitive for zooming either in DCS or in the complicated Virpil software?

    • @Hav0k
      @Hav0k  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, short answer, yes. The long answer is that while you could technically do it, it seems that when you configure it as a rotary encoder in the software, DCS ends up recognizing it as a single keypress every second which results in having to literally have to spam the rotary to zoom in even just a little bit. Thus, it isn't very effective as a zoom :(
      However, I will do more research and testing and put more updates to the software as I learn or figure out how to solve issues that I struggled with in my infancy with the software.

    • @gokuta333
      @gokuta333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JSpark135 I have both and you're talking bollocks.
      A marketing tool you sound.
      The only thing that requires replacing in a TM Warthog set (if one currently owns and has one) is the shitty ball gimbal for a WarBrd D (a natural and much needed successor to a Cougar gimbal anyway). Even the slew has no problem if you tune it, no need to dump another $60 into it from a third party for a $5 switch and a Hammond junction box (which is what your _toys_ are made of) from eBay.
      I've found the three companies TM, WW and V to be comparable in their highs and lows. The modular WinWing throttles seem like the next best option to me anyway. One make crap sticks, one makes so so throttles and sticks, one makes great sticks, but decent throttles etc. None of them are consistent.

    • @JSpark135
      @JSpark135 ปีที่แล้ว

      @eustacequinlank7418 I'm ex infantry I have sat in the cockpit of several aircraft, Virgil feels like what real mil aircraft uses. TM products feel like cheap toys, there was barely a difference between my saitek/Logitech and the warthog, barely felt like an upgrade besides the feel of materials they operated the same because they are a SPRING TENSION movement.

    • @eustacequinlank7418
      @eustacequinlank7418 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JSpark135 Are you talking about the stick bases now? VPC use compression springs in their flight stick bases (as do most manufacturers of desktop simulation gear... toys). May god have mercy on your wallet seeking out the correct weatherproofed Honeywell switches etc rather than the type Virpil, TM, or WInWing use on their throttles (about $8 a pack for five on Amazon style).
      And?
      Infantry, so what? I don't care, I don't fly, but I lived near an airbase all my life and have been privy to sitting in a number cockpits over the years. It doesn't make me an 'expert' either. I make and fly kites too if that helps? Dunno.
      None of these manufacturers deal with 'milspec grade components' enough to suspend your sense of disbelief while using these adult toys for over grown, consumerist infants like ourselves.
      edit: I'll add TM's problem is complacency, lack of product diversity and maintaining innovation at that price end... and being overpriced compared to the competition these days. Not really in the Warthog being sub par as a piece of kit compared to the rest (which use all similar build profiles in terms of where they decide to use metals and where they use plastics). The 50CM3 Throttle uses plenty of plastic where I might prefer there to be none and vice versa.

    Your zoom control being too precise in DCS is definitely fixable right in the sim with axis tune. You can set a deadzone, curve, and range limits on any axes command so that should be a very fixable problem unless the control itself is hard to be precise with at all (like the TM Warthog throttle grip TDC slew nipple).

I have many hobbies where I use non-trivial software on PC including writing software myself, but when I flight sim I have far less patience. I don't have fun "fixing" the controller itself to work in the sim so I always do math for things I don't like to do by considering it "work" and then ask myself how much do I pay myself to do this work? If it would take me a day to learn how to and then set up a new device just to start to play it in some simulator, at my salary range that's $400. It's more worth it for me to get multiple devices than stick to one and remap it like that.

    The software is certainly more complex that the software for most other devices you may have, but in a good way. It means you can do a ton. It isn't designed poorly, it is just more complex. It certainly isn't the best peice of software ever made, but I have certainly seen faaaaar worse. And it actually works most of the time unlike allot of other software to configure devices (even ones that try to be "better" and look nice/be user freindly) that may take forever to start, be unrepsonvie half the time, and when it is responsive it doesn't even work properly.
