The sister that almost ruined OP’s family.
I’d say that, since he didn’t set her on fire, he didn’t over react. She should be told that she will never be trusted again, and will not be “the good aunt”. She’ll be lucky to behave any relationship with OP’s kid at all.

Story 3: As a child-free dog mom myself, that friend is out of order. I love my furbabies, but no, they do NOT take precedence over people's kids with allergies, especially on Mother's Day. If she wants to do the whole doggie birthdays and the like, why not just do that stuff with the community she already has that's into it, instead of trying to force her friends to cater to her? This is classic "we've been friends for years and want to stay friends, but we have nothing in common anymore and have no interest in each other's current lives, so wait a minute, why are we still friends?" As someone who's child-free, it's near impossible to stay close friends with a group who are all parents. You try at first, but you don't want to always do kid friendly stuff, and they don't want to have to get babysitters for everything, so the friendships usually devolve into occasional adult only outings once in a while. That's what happens when friends no longer have much in common. It doesn't mean anyone's a bad friend, you just have different lives and priorities than each other, it happens.

I have the same sentiment here. While that is usually seen on TV or In the movies, it does shockingly happen IRL from time to time, where people do anything to get what they feel they are entitled too. It's great his mom and grandparents had common sense to have a will. And honestly, it will probably come to no surprise to find out if OP's grandparents updated their will since he had already been informing them for a while how toxic and bad that relationship was and if they feel that there was a possibility that they were opportunist it's possible that OP's grandparents updated and change their will to protect him like that in the case of the unfortunate accident in which they all were included in.

So, dog mom...I am a mom and have had many pets from dogs and a cat to chickens, goats, rabbits, ducks, geese, and a turkey.
I have never gone full out on pet parenting, as I had children.
I really feel that even though Leila says she never wanted children, she did. Resenting that her ex remarried and had children has set her off. Now, she doesn't have a man around, or the possibility of children on accident.
It seems she resents her friends that have children, too. They did it on purpose and she can't even accidentally do it, unless she finds a one night stand, and goes it alone after that.
I am glad she found a group of people whose zeal for their fur babies matches her own. I do think that the further she goes down this rabbit hole, the less likely she will get over her resentment of her friends.
I believe she feels like they have moved on, and her pet doesn't equate, so she isn't included in absolutely everything equally...with her fur baby being treated as a human child.
It is not a good substitute.
She will have to learn to deal with separating from her friends, and immersing herself in her new friend group.
Sorry Leila. It really isn't the same thing.

Doggie story: It sounds to me like Lemon's mom may be a bit jealous of the kid moms and is just too stubborn to admit it. She may feel she is too old now to have kids so she over indulges with her fur baby and treats her friends with human kids harshly due to said jealousy. It's too bad we don't now if she has any nieces or nephews that she could bring and have special time with them, then maybe she wouldn't feel so left out. An aunt can gush just as much as a mom. I had to pause story one, I got so mad on behalf of OP! OP should've filed for legal emancipation, but it sounds like they didn't suffer any permanent losses during the time it took them to reach 18 years old - thank goodness for an audit/investigation into the funds used by the step-dud, and OP's ability to see him for what he was!
OP in the second story has an a-hole for a sister! Just because the relationship has recovered does not mean that the perpetrators of the situation that put in in jeopardy are forgiven. The sister is actually even more of a b-witch than the ex, because OP should be able to trust the sister more than an ex!
I think OP went about trying to explain the difference between human babies & fur-babies well. Plus, human children are not ever allergic to other children (directly). The friend needs to have an intervention, but she'll either side with the "new friends" who believe in treating animal family like human children, or she'll choose to stay friends with OP's group, BUT it has to be her choice!

I wonder if the shoplifting girl WANTED to be arrested? I had an acquaintance who was homeless at one time and he deliberately went up to a cop and hit him with his fist. His reasoning: winter was coming and he needed a place to stay out of the cold.

1: I have to wonder if the stepfather was playing the long game and got together with OP’s mom to get access to her parents’ money eventually. Too bad for him that OP didn’t roll over and let him take everything.
3: Pet “parents” need intense therapy. They can do that stuff in private, but actually demanding the same recognition and “perks” as actual parents just because they own a stinky mutt is insane.
4: What a fool. Why would someone who swore to uphold the law just watch as you blatantly committed a crime in front of them? Even if a police officer was off duty and for some reason wasn’t “allowed” to arrest her, they could still call in other police officers to deal with her, and act as a witness to the crime.

I would have tried to talk to the lawyer as soon as I found out I got the inheritance and that my stepfather was in charge of it. I would have told him about our true relationship and that I didn’t want him being in charge of it until I was 18. I would have asked the lawyer to be in charge of it until my 18th birthday. I would have also asked my best friend if I could move in with them until I was 18. I would also talk to the lawyer about what I should do with that large amount of money. If he brought up a financial advisor I would have made an appointment with one after asking the lawyer for a recommendation.

Story One: OP should have also tried to get it on video or audio about his stepdad saying something might "happen to him" before he turned 18. I would also be tempted to be a sadist & call him up after I turned 18 to joke, "you're right I am too immature to handle the money, so I've told the lawyer to send it all to the charities my grandparents had picked out as option "C" if both me & Mom were dead. I'm sure the Dumb Friends League will use it better than either you or I could have." I'm sure he would have exploded remembering that option C was charity, not him & his brat. I also wish that the stepdad ended up in jail for his shenanigans.
Story Two: NTA I'd suggest delivering a very public non-apology, "Sorry I overreacted because your prank nearly caused my divorce & possible misarrange of my kid. Mom, Dad you think it's funny that my marriage nearly ended in divorce over this 'prank' & you probably would have never gotten to see your grand child in their lives ever, right? Remember Grandparents' Rights are only a thing if the child already has an established relationship with you & if my wife would have left me I kind of doubt she'd be bringing my kid to hand around, IF I ever got to see them myself at all."

Story 2: Pranks are things everyone laughs at the end. NTA.
Story 3: Layla seems clingy and insecure. Cats aren't dogs. And mothers day and father's day are for the parents of human children. I have a fur-baby but I also acknowledge she is a dog and can't go some places and will never speak or file taxes.

The sister "prank" one not the a-hole, the family thinks that he was a jerk for that reaction he need to tell them this "would yall be defending her this much if it caused a miscarriage due to stress, would yall be defending her if she murdered my son?" That exposes how wrong she was and the fact that she waited proves she knows that she was in the wrong and those feelings of resentment have only festered since one of the perpetrators had gone unpunished.

Story 1: I used to get that same sense of anxiety & I actually felt the moment some people died- even when they were on the other side of the planet. I knew when a family friend died. I knew when my grandfather died. I knew when my aunt died. I knew when my grandmother got sick and then when she died. I could feel my father dying & had sympathy symptoms of dizziness and palpitations. A part of me died with him and I no longer have that sense. I'm surprised that OP got bereavement leave from school. They don't do that at schools where I live. They might give a day or something but not more than that. I feel awful for OP & his family. What a horrible accident! Life can really suck sometimes. Good for OP for standing up for his rights and having his stepdad prosecuted for fraud, suing him to get his $ back, etc. I'm wondering if this was outside the US bc the US doesn't always make defendants repay legal fees. I'm glad the grandparents' lawyer helped OP. NTA. I personally think the stepdad should have gone to prison for fraud, theft, and threats.
Story 2: NTA. Sister almost destroyed his relationship w/ the mother of his child and could have stressed the gf into miscarriage. I don't care how bored sister was. That was an a-hole move.
Story 3: NTA. But I would not want to have crotchgoblins around. Can't stand them! I've got dogs, cats, & cows & they are quite a handful to take care of. Leila sounds like a diva. It sounds like her divorce really has her upset & changed her. She's using her dog as emotional support in a way. It's sad and I hope she gets help. I'm childfree by choice and I am happy to not be involved in mother's day stuff.
Story 4: Some people are so stupid! She shoplifted while someone was watching her. My best friend worked in asset protection & got physically assaulted by people when they saw him watching them stealing. One person hit him in the head with a stolen shovel. Another person slammed him into the shelves. I was luckier. I wasn't in asset protection but I caught some people opening a box to steal stuff out when I was shopping. I saw them and said "Hey! checking to see what the product looks like inside?" and they said "Yes Ma'am" and put the stuff back. I then alerted my friend and we both kept eyes on them to make sure they didn't take anything. Another time I just stopped and stared at someone who put stuff back and left and I followed them around to make sure they didn't take anything else or go back.

OP was definitely not the AH! When he realized stepdad's Shenanigans he should have contacted his grandmother's lawyer. At least that what I would have done. Also as close to 18 as he was he could have simply moved out of the stepdad's house into his grandparents house as it was actually his.
So very glad that he made out okay and was in a good place.
Truthfully I'm really surprised that the stepdad didn't cover his butt better. If he had he could have siphoned so much money off Opie's estate, transferred it to 'safe accounts. Then he and his worthless son could have left the country, gone anywhere and lived the high life.

They bonded to me and love me.. some I handed raised with a eye dropper from a week old.after their mom died. where I live theirs no way I could re-home them..we don't have shelters for anything besides a dog or cat.. and they outright reject strangers. As their mom I need to do what's best for them. With all 7 being seniors.. I couldn't abandon them. And I love them to much to forever be guilty and wonder on their bdays who made it to their 10,11 or 12th bday. Or we're they put to sleep within the week I gave them up. Their living out their lives in safety with love, and good healthcare... And I would never force someone to go with my choice, nor would I force someone to socialize with them if they shared my allergies..or simply didn't want to. people shouldn't force their human kids on others either.. it's a two way street and we need to respect each other. ;)
