The only "ungrateful child" in that first story was the OP's dad. He freeloaded off his mother, and then had her put in a home so he could steal from her. What a selfish jerk!

Story 1: NTA. Sounds like they are living there rent free & don't expect to pay anything. They put the house's owner out just so they could move more people in. They deserve to be kicked out. Although, I will say that sometimes its not possible to care for an elderly person in the home & sending them to specialized care is necessary if the person needs medical care that the family can't provide safely. I have to say I LOVE that OP hired the old housekeeper to come clean it and let her take whatever she wanted. That was a very kind thing to do and I also feel it was the right thing to do. I'm glad OP got that over with.
Story 2: I'm glad the cop turned out to be an old friend of OP's. It might have gone differently otherwise. My brother got invited to meet his 21-yr-old gf's father. The father said "I think you should leave" My brother said "OK" and turned to leave. Let the gf know she could come with him if she wanted. At which point her dad pulled a gun on my brother and said "I'm going to blow your fucking brains out". My brother grabbed the gun and stuck his finger behind the trigger so it couldn't be fired, pointed it at the ground, and backed out of the trailer. He was outside when the police finally arrived. The girl wanted to leave with my brother but the cops wouldn't let her bc the father claimed she was autistic (she has mild aspergers). They forced her to stay and the father held her captive for a week until her work sent the cops for a wellness check. It went to trial almost 3 years later (after statute of limitations was up) and the laws had changed & the penalties had changed. Girl had moved out, court denied my brother an attorney, the judge almost fell asleep during testimony (he'd decided the case before it even started bc he always convicts-- he gets a bonus to his retirement pay for convicting). The father lied his ass off on the stand. When the cop started corroborating my brother's version of events, the prosecutor slapped his papers and scared the cop and intimidated him into being quiet and claiming he didn't remember. My brother had to represent himself. Judge then went on and said that the girl inviting him and not being the homeowner meant he was trespassing to begin with so he got a misdemeanor charge and 3 months probation. I'm glad things turned out well in the end.
Story 3: So, they tried to force their son to go to a party just for his sister when he didn't get a celebration & they were mad that he left and didn't finish when he didn't want to be there in the first place. And rather than trying to find out what was going on with him or see his pov or even get him any sort of counseling, they ostracized him. Maybe he put in more effort to get good grades to try to get back on their good side. Maybe he found a tutor. Maybe he finally found a teacher that could teach the subject in a way he understood (teaching method can make a huge difference). But they just put all blame on him and then kick him out? She says she doesn't have a bias, but I think she does and doesn't realize it. ESH. She is the asshole for not making an effort to help her son & just kicks him to the curb.

First story: OP, you can allow your father, his wife, and their child to go on living in your house if you want, but I strongly suggest evicting wife's extended family right now. There is no telling what they will do to your property in order to make it unsalable, so you lose money. Also, start charging them rent, and make sure they pay a damage deposit. Have someone inspect the property regularly, to be sure they are not trashing the place. You don't owe these freeloaders anything.

Okay first of all as someone who suffers from mental health issues myself I can agree they did not appear overnight mine started when I was very young my dad did everything he could to get me help it didn't work the medicine that controls my mental health issues now was not around until I was well into my 30s so but my dad never turned his back on me neither did his sisters or my Aunt Kathy or my cousin Isaac because most of my mental health issues are genetically inherited my aunt took her son to a geneticist when he was an infant and that is how we found out that there is a genetic disorder in my family on my mother's side that caused a lot of my mental health issues. Now that being said what the son did to his sister on her quinceanera was wrong that is a very important milestone in a 15-year-old girl's Life I know because I have a lot of Hispanic neighbors and we've been to daughters and nieces quinceaneras when they've invited us it's a huge milestone in a girl's life for Hispanic and Mexican people so yes the sun was an a hole for ruining that but other than that the mother should have treated him better the family shouldn't have disowned him like that for being mentally ill it wasn't his fault

The Quincenera is a tradition to show other families that their daughter is no longer a "kid" but is a "WOMAN" is pure and available for marriage. Young girls NEVER, NEVER, NEVER went anywhere unescorted whether it be with their mom, grandmother, or a nanny. That way there would never be a question of if they were a VIRG^^n or not. Story 1: NTA. Considering the OP's circumstances either sell the house or hire an agent to rent it out which can be risky as some renters trash the estates and steel from the landlords/landladies. Usually, the first offer you get when selling the house is the best you're going to get, get what you can.
Story 2: MIL is an instigator and toxic. I hope the cop asked the girlfriend for some ID, the fastest way to solve the question of her age. Small world, huh? The property ends on the sidewalk. The girlfriend no longer lives under the MIL's roof. I guess the experience was humbling for MIL.
Story 3: Was there favouritism between the siblings and Chris had, had enough? This whole family needs therapy. Doesn't the OP think that the school would call her in if her son would have cheated on a test? Chris is almost definitely using her good grades as a way to leave the home as soon as possible via a scholarship or something else. The quinsinera was all about the daughter when Chris shared the birthday with her and the OP didn't see a problem.

I know all about Quinceañeras. The fact that he escorted her into the party and had to dance with her means he was her "chambelán". This means he was forced to be her escort. This is like someone forcing you to be a pall bearer at at a funeral when you clearly have refused to participate in any of it but would only be attending or being forced to be a bridesmaid when you have said no. He wasn't being forced to dance at the party. That is literally part of him being a chambelán. That's why the DJ called his name. It's like that first dance between husband and wife at a wedding reception. That is the same kind of dance where no one else is dancing but the "couple". If it's a big event, the girl will have up to 15 chambelánes, representing her turning 15 years old. If the son was so against participating, then he must've said no way before the party and his mother ignored him and just said "you have to do it for family". The only a-hole is the mother because she organized the party and should have gotten someone else to be her daughter's chambelán, someone that volunteered. I had four myself for my quinceañera and all of them volunteered. I ended up marrying one of them years later. We started dating after my party. The sister acts the way she does because the mother has allowed it. It's easy to see which child is the favorite.

I have twin cousins (boy and girl) and the only reason the boy had even the smallest part of the party be about him was because their parents are super rich and the twins has the same group of friends at the time, so they wouldn't have to invite more people, get a bigger place, more food, etc

Story 1, NTA. If anything, it's karma to op's dad and his wife for doing what they did to op's grandmother. I know what that's like, I have a relative who did the same thing to his mom and married an extremely wicked woman. No one in the family acknowledges him or anything after all the horrible things he's done. So, I say they more than deserve to be kicked out, at that point, they are no longer family. That's how it is with my relative unfortunately. When someone is like that there is no way to talk to them or get through to them. It's a lost cause op, just disown them and be done with it. I know from experience. Happy about the update, if it's anything like like my family drama, op's dad and his wife will never speak to op again, because they somehow believe that they were wronged.

  • @Erik-pr2rf
    @Erik-pr2rf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Dad's wife has zero grounds or say on what the homeowner can and can't do with their own home. If they want to update it and then sell it's their right. Their name is on the deed due to the grandparent's will of the house not dad's wife . OP is nta didn't need the house and has every right to do whatever with the home and if dad n wife tries to contest it in court OPs family lawyer can get the judge a copy of the signed and dated will

This is a cultural thing. Only the girls are given this celebration, and the dance was supposed to be between the girl and her dad or eldest male sibling. The brother not showing up is equivalent to a dad bailing out on the father and the bride dance at a wedding.

I would have done the same thing!!! Wait! Wait!! Op's Gf was over 18. Why would you sit and wait for the police. Wth?! Seriously tho!!! Why, Entertain that crazy woman?! I wish my mother had gone to therapy. But, whatever. 3rd, why didn't her father step up and dance with his daughter? 🤷‍♂️. Am I missing something?! Lol. Oh man, yes I agree with that response. The mother and father "Were Both the A-Holes." Wow!!! ✌️ Red.

Last story: ESH but Christian and his Uncle! Mommy dearest and her doormat husband created an incredibly toxic and damaging home where they treated their daughter like a princess and their son like a slave and then they wonder why their son hates everyone in his family except his Uncle. Christian's parents failed him from birth and continue to abuse him so it's wonderful that his Uncle actually loves and cares for him and is the only person who has ever stood up and protected him. Hopefully Christian will go no contact and live a happy healthy life without his toxic family terrorizing him.

1st story : get them out of YOUR house, and let them know that, should have they been decent and respectfull human beings, they would have had some time to get back on their feet, but as they are not, you don't care about grown adults being homeless after leeching over whatever they could.
For the children, call CPS, not ideal solution, but way better than these 2 freeloaders and your crappy in-laws !!!

Last story: "I don't have a bias for either of my children."
Really? What I heard was OP has fraternal boy girl twins, OP is holding a big party for HER 15th, OP made him to attend HER party and wanted him dance with HER.
    1) THEY share a birthday. OP never acknowledged her son's birthday at all.
    2) He is also turning 15. He doesn't yet know how to express his feelings. OP should have talked to him about what was getting him upset about the upcoming celebration for his sister. I'm sure he would have opened up and mentioned the unfairness of not celebrating his birthday.
The US American girl's sweet 16, the Jewish boy's Bat Mitzvah, the Mexican (now Hispanic I believe) Quinceañera, etc all these traditions for a single gender are unfair as they forget to celebrate the same milestones for the other sex.

My mother tried to force creepy interactions between me and my older brother. If he couldn’t get a date for a dance I was expected to be his date, just creepy crap. The guy used to beat me up. He left me at dances Mike’s away from home because he didn’t want to look for me. I had to get a ride home once with a bus boy and my mother didn’t think there was anything wrong with this

Last story... I think the problem is that the girl got this lavish Cinciñera while he just got a "happy birthday" (if at all) though it was his birthday also.
You can not excuse this blatant different treatment with "tradition" when you have twins. He got nothing! While his sister got a big party. I bet if there would be something similar to a Cinciñera for boys, the mother would still plan something for the twinsister as it "would not be fair that only he gets a party"...
