My aunt and Uncle try to take advantage of me when I sign up to be their nanny. Everything was fine at first but then they tried to break the contract we have signed and pay me way less money. I wasn't having it and told them I will leave and they will never see me again. I guess they did not like my reaction because this happened next...

By my math, they were only paying OP about 5.20/hour and the other nannies less to look after 4 kids and work as a house cleaning service. That is disgustingly low pay

Most of the time nannies are underpaid and sometimes they are abused depending upon the family they are with. They are overworked, underpaid, and are oftentimes abused by their employers. You do get really good employers that pay a lot of money and treat their nannies extremely well. This is why if you are planning on becoming a nanny, you thoroughly understand the laws, including labour laws. Understanding your contract doesn't mean anything unless you thoroughly understand the labour laws. If you're an au pair, this is especially crucial to prevent employers from abusing their positions and working the nanny to the bone.

Plus the 1000 for rent, 300 for food and utilities, 70 for a phone. Add the 800 for pay and it doesn't look half bad. Plus also the visa to the US.

He should have never agreed to any household duties other than the CHILDREN'S laundry, food making and cleanup. Aunt and uncle should have just hired a second cleaner instead of a live-in nanny.
OP really should have reported them, especially because the uncle was a lawyer and was violating labor laws.

Did I want a son...No, did I want a gay son... No, However that is who he is and that is who I love, so my wants are my own and in no way impact the love and support I give him. Nothing is unconditional, ever. A parents love is great and deep, but nothing is ever unconditional and the expectation of it is a lie. That's rough about your kid. I guess you had a solid test of how great and deep. Hopefully you have another kid. That one is most likely a genetic dead end and presumably you want a grandkid or two. They are like all the fun parts of having a kid without having to do the hard parts.

      @nutty77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@Snipergoat1 I disagree. My child does not have to be or act a certain way for me to love them. I would never emotionally blackmail them into being something they are not. As for grandchildren, that's an erroneous assumption on your part. Why would I want grandchildren? There is too much gumpf surrounding grandchildren. If my son at a later date adopts, fine and well, that child will be loved regardless. If he doesn't, then that is his choice and doesn't affect me in any way.

Yep. IF they violate the contract, then the contract is NULL AND VOID, which means that you do NOT have to give them one month's notice.
Tell them that, the moment they start to try to change it. "If you violate the contract, it will be NULL AND VOID, and I will not owe you ANY NOTICE to leave. I will NOT WORK FOR OATHBREAKERS. The day you violate my contract is the day I pack my bags and move out."
Sleep at the airport, until you can get a flight. It's hard, but it can be done. You doze in a chair, with your bags between your feet, and on your lap, leaning over them and using them as "pillows."

Story 1: This is why you don't work for your family or employ your family. Why is the OP one of two nannies but is the one doing the bulk of the chores? If the other nanny found out the aunt and uncle would feel bad? What kind of a contract did the OP sign? Was it overseen by a lawyer? I doubt it. "The spirit of the contract" The uncle's a lawyer, figures. Horrible parents, manipulate children to make an adult feel guilty. Haven't earned the full paycheck? Entitled and selfish. Why can't these parents be parents to their kids instead of their grown-up niece or nephew, who they hired to do a job? I'd call child protection.
Story 2: This whole story makes me uncomfortable. A horrible father who cheated with his grown son's girlfriend made an alleged horrible father. Like father like son as they say. How did the dad keep it a secret for so long amongst his other family? Paternity test for the nephew/brother?
Story 2: I wonder why the sister is single? *Sarcasm* Go OP, go OP! Protect that young man and lt him be the best him he can be. NTA.

375 per week equates to about 54 a day. An 8-hour workday equates to just a hair under 7 dollars an hour… hard to imagine a live-in nanny working for minimum wage.

Sounds like people commenting don’t understand a few things:
    1) room and board are not free extra “perks” on top of wages. They are legally a credit towards Wages under Section 3(m) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. So you add the costs of the room and board to the cash component to determine the pay rate and determine whether they pay met the minimum wage.
    2) the foreigners were au pairs and the minimum is set by the federal government at $195.75 which is the minimum wage on 45 hours and then adjusted for 40% housing/food credit. The program lets the foreigners in under a J-1 education visa and the host family must contribute to classes in addition to pay, housing, etc.

You have no idea how common this story is for live-in Nannies. The contract is often abused and they think nannies are super human even though they cant handle the chores and kids for a weekend themselves. Ive met soooo many who had to fight for Pay, time off, privacy, or reasonable expectation.

Story one: I'd be telling the children the truth. "If course I love you! But your mommy and daddy are trying to hurt me and breaking the law, so I have to go, because it's too dangerout to be around bad people like them. And I hope you remember this; sometimes, even if you love someone, if the situation is dangerous, or you are being hurt, it's ok to leave. It doesn't mean you dont love them, it means you know their actions are bad, and you need to be safe"

I think the Aunt & uncle probably ALWAYS planned to do what they did. I kinda hope the other nanny quit too. I do feel sorry for the kids. The "child psychologist" is so obviously emotionally abusive. The "boys don't cry" is bad enough. But trying to make those kids feel like it was THEIR fault their cousin was leaving - that's pure evil. Kids tend to find ways to make themselves to blame in any case. Wonder how CPS would see it. Somehow,I doubt the toxicity was confined to just those incidents.

What do you want to bet it was because he realized what a MONSTER that woman was, before he knew she was pregnant, and go the heck away from her, before she could DESTROY HIM.
I don't blame him, at all, if he didn't know there was a child. She's HORRIBLE! NOBODY should stay with her!

Years and years ago, when I was a teenager, I was what you could call an "in demand babysitter". I was often booked months in advance and back then, most people were paying me between $5 and $8 an hour (back in the 80s). Well, one weekend due to a family emergency, the people I was supposed to babysit for had to cancel so I ended up with an opening. A couple that my parents knew asked me to babysit. They had a 5 yr old and a 6 week old who strictly breastfed (this is important). She said they would only be a couple hours as they "just wanted to go have a dinner without kids" as it was their anniversary. "Two, maybe three hours max and there are two bottles in the fridge with breast milk which should be plenty." Okay. No problem, right? Oh how wrong I was. First, there were NO BOTTLES AT ALL. Nothing. Not even formula. And the 5 yr old? She had NEVER been left with a sitter. Not even her grandparents. It was around 5:30 when they left and it was pre-cell phone days. I didn't even know WHERE they were going for this child-free meal. Baby was crying because he was hungry - and 5 yr old was screaming "You can't tell me what to do! You're not my mom!" over and over again while jumping on the table. After 3 hours of this, I called my mother and told her "There is NO MILK for the baby! She said she left bottles with breast milk in the fridge but there is not even a single BOTTLE in the house let alone any with breast milk!" Mom, bless her, showed up after a 10 mile drive with formula and bottles and a bottle of "baby safe" water and proceeded to make a couple bottles. Thank God Baby was hungry because he did not fuss at all about suddenly having a bottle rather than breast! And the little girl? She was completely silent after Mom glared at her and told her to "sit down and be quiet before I give you are a reason to cry!" (It only lasted as long as Mom was there - she started up again as soon as mom left - but that entire HOUR was golden!!!) So yes, now it was more than 4 hours...then 5...then 6...And finally at FOUR IN THE MORNING they return home because they went out bar hopping! They were DRUNK and so I was stuck in town with NO RIDE home because I was NOT going to take a ride home with drunks! Luckily, another couple I babysat for lived just down the street so I walked over there (she worked at the local pub and she had just gotten home so was awake.) And when I got ready to leave? She handed me FIFTY CENTS!!! And had the audacity to say "We'll need you again next week." I told her "No. I'm booked." She said "Well, cancel it! They probably don't pay as well as I do!" Ma'am! You just paid be FIFTY FUCKING CENTS to deal with a spoiled brat and a screaming baby who had NO FUCKING FOOD! She actually called my mother the next morning to complain about me refusing to babysit, being "rude" to her, and "how dare she feed my baby FORMULA!" Mom told her flat out "You are just lucky calling social services would have been a moot point since they wouldn't have sent anyone out until Monday anyways because I WOULD HAVE CALLED THEM! You left her with NO FOOD for the baby and that girl of yours has NO FUCKING MANNERS and doesn't know how to listen! And then you paid her all of 50 cents when she earns between $5 and $8 an hour from everyone else in town? WHY would she babysit for you?" Word spread pretty fast and NO ONE would babysit for them after that. I'm pretty sure they never went out for a "child free meal" and a "pub crawl" again until the daughter was old enough to babysit her little brother.
