I was 12 yrs old and my 9 yr old sister tried to take food off my plate. Now to back up just a little bit. My sister and I had tried to play a game together and as usual she expected me to let her win. My parents always had raised us that you win on your own merits. So she was still in a pissy mood because my parents refused to take her side in that arguement. Back to the food stealing. She reached across and tried to take food off my plate. So I stabbed her with a fork in the back of her hand. It didn't even bleed but she carried in like I had tried to slit her throat. Dad just looked at her and said, "keep your hands to yourself".

    1. I would tell the aunt unless she doesn't feed her own child at home there really isn't reason a kid that young would need two big burgers. That probably would help nothing but still.
    2. Even if she presented the judge the stolen car they would of done a background check I'm sure and take note it's not registered to her and reported missing. She would of been in handcuffs either way.

Being that she already had a car, it was never about needing a car to get her son back, not for one minute. This was pure selfishness, she just wanted a better car than what she had and she wanted someone else to pay for it. Blatant ugly greed, that's all. Nothing to do with getting her son back, he was just a convenient way to try and get that free car.

In my family, stealing that burger would have given Karen several forks in her hand from other family members. Normally, the victim gets to use the fork, no blame, but she's sick so everyone gets a shot at Karen's hand.

This actually happened at my aunt's wediing as a kid...it was funny watchinf the MOH get her hand speared by a fork for trying to take my food because her baby "deserved it more"...he was 4, i was 7 or 8 and also the flower girl.
The MOH was arrested for "assulting a child" and was the one thing her husband apparently needed to divorce her and get full custody of their son.

Something similar happened to me with my aunt and grandpa when I was fifteen. My grandpa refused to let me get a plate of dinner because I had already eaten and my great uncle hadn’t yet, according to him. I had eaten two of those store bought taquitos (the super thin ones) about two or three hours earlier as a snack. He literally stood in front of the stove and blocked me from it. My mom stormed in and yelled at him, asking how he thought a snack hours earlier meant she didn’t need dinner. She ended up getting my aunt, who cooked the food and was disabled and they all started screaming back and forth until he was basically sent back to his room until he apologized to me and admitted that he was wrong. He did later on and never tried to prevent me from eating again.

Story 1: I'm glad the grandmother stood up for the sick child but I'm also relieved that the sick child found the whole thing amusing. I have a friend with an entitled prick for a father. The mother never cooked large meals and the father would get most of the food while she got a medium portion and my friend got the smallest portion. One time I was visiting and watched the father steal food off my friend's plate and tell her "You're fat and you don't need it". She was nowhere near fat. She was bordering on malnourished because most of the time they made her buy her own food (she was under 18) with money she got from her job. They also stole money that relatives sent her in the mail for birthdays and holidays and the dad used it to buy himself gifts on her birthday and Christmas. The Karen also sounds a bit like one of my dad's aunts who claimed she practically raised my dad when he maybe only saw her 3 times in his life and those 3 times she was rude as fuck to him & treated him like garbage. She always trash-talked him to other family. Then one day she wanted him to pay for her to fly over and visit us in another country & pulled the BS about how much she'd done for us. (she pulled that bc my dad's cousin was flying out to see us and she called the old woman -- her grandmother-- out on her bs). Poor 5-yr-old will likely be stuck in the middle of things with his mom. I'm not surprised the Karen was rude to a kid. I remember when I was a kid how many people were incredibly rude to me. If I'd been there, I would have kicked the Karen out and told her she wasn't welcome to come back-- especially since she stole more food after she left. I would lock the doors and not let her back in ever.
Story 2: It's heartwarming that OP cares so much about the patients. So many people-- especially ones who go into that field-- lack empathy. EM wants her baby back so she goes and commits a crime and gets arrested again. Yeah, that will help. /rollseyes. What a complete bitch! Poor OP. If EM actually had money she could sue her for emotional distress as well as to cover damage to the vehicle. I'm hoping OP can get her car fixed up. You can buy navigation things to put in a car for a couple hundred bucks. You can also get custom heated pads added in if you really want. Or you can buy heated seat covers. I got heated seat covers for my back seat in my truck for passengers to stay warm in winter. I also got a 12v electric blanket to keep people warm in the truck.
Story 3: OP could have reported her SIL for food stamp fraud if she was getting them for OP's kids but not using it to buy them any food. I don't think OP is being childish. She lost her home to something she couldn't control. SIL lost her home due to something she *could* control. She could have made her tax payments. They do give people notice and give them time to pay the taxes before they evict them usually. Turnabout is fair play. SIL made OP and her kids suffer and I don't think it would be too much suffering on her one kid to share a room for awhile. NTA.

The last story was great. My family went through a house fire too. My parents who always threw money around to make them look wealthy did nothing for me and my family. No clothes for my kids or anything. But my wonderful BIL and MIL pooled money together within a few hours of hearing what had happened. They helped us find a place to stay. We went to one of those extended stays, it was 5 of us in one room but my choice because I didn’t want to take advantage of them. My BIL first took my kids to the store and let them pick out what they needed. They all just picked a few clothes to get by and one pair of shoes. Then he grabbed me and forced me in his car. I am a healthcare worker and I suddenly had no scrubs. I usually have tons of them, they get to old for work so I’ll use them for gardening and stuff. I was not about to have him buy me the expensive brands of scrubs so we had to go to a few Walmarts to find some cheep ones, and i picked out the cheapest white sneakers I could find.
My in-laws then spread the word about what had happened and complete strangers bought or gave us bags of clothes, dishes, pots furniture or just some money we could put away to help us get back on our feet.
I don’t consider the people I share DNA with my family, they wanted nothing to do with me when I needed them the most. But I cherish my husbands family for not even having a second thought when they heard we lost everything. They just went on autopilot and did more than they had to do to help us out when we needed it.

Not the only disagreeable things he did and thought nothing of but the one that was something I was surprised about. Didn't say I didn't love ole pop's.

My kids were staying with their grandma and they had just gotten home from grocery shopping when my narcissist self entitled sister and 2 of her 3 boys showed up and she cooked and fed her boys offering nothing to my boys, my mother and grandmother. After she cleaned out the fresh groceries she left.
Well she got put in her place by my 14 yr old son. She didn't like it at all and returned the day of my grandmothers funeral and stole what she wanted..her and her boys would not talk to our mother, my boys and me. Shes afraid of me! She knows i follow through with my promises!

Story 2: EM should be prosecuted to the fullest extent allowable, a restraining order taken out against her to stay away from OP and anything OP owns, and sued for damages. There may be no way to collect on said suit NOW, but a successful judgement doesn't go away. OP can then hold it over EM and eventually collect at some time in the future, if EM ever does get any money. IANAL, but, as far as I know, in the US one cannot even go bankrupt to get rid of a court ordered Judgement...

I had an aunt and a cousin. I told the aunt more than once(she was a bit famous as she was the world's first recipient of an artificial heart valve in 1964 at the Mayo clinic. ) Always the attention deckers. Drank and swore like a sailor, took pain meds daily, and a bitch. But she was cool. She liked people who called her out. Never figured out why.

Story 1: Something very similar happened to me as a teenager. I was sent to my Aunt's house for the holidays. My Aunt was a good person, but her spoiled brat of a son who was an adult always mistreated me. He was 15 years older than me. My Aunt had made some nice dishes because of my visit. Well while having dinner my aunt served me with juicy pieces of steaks. My cousin was jealous and immediately took away all the meat from my plate and told my aunt that he was going to eat them for the next day. I till date humiliate him in every family gathering, I even jokingly warn others not to sit next to him when eating, as he would grab meat from your plates. Everyone in our family condemn him, he has not changed one bit till date. He is still the same old greedy pig.

Story three, only she could judge as she lived with them for nine months. If the step daughter was normal, they could have offered her a room, not her mother, just her, that would at least get her out of the situation. If she is like her mother then kick them both out…of your lives.

Story 1; honestly with my extended family all of them behaved like Karen on both sides. I didn’t know that everyone wasn’t an entitled ass until I got away from seeing the extended family…put it this way, once my grandma on mums side gave me a present I liked, as soon as I said thankyou and how much I liked it she snatched it from me and gave to my cousin who then had two gifts and I got none except for wondering why they where like that.

Story 2: (This is if it were me). She's lucky my boss didn't tell me before the cops got there. The last thing she would be worrying about would be getting her son back. She would have been worrying about getting the eye that I stomped out, the ear that I bit off, and the arm that I ripped off and began beating her with the wet end. After proving what happened the cops would definitely arrest her and say that she was like that when they got there. The cameras would have malfunctioned just before I came into frame, and there would be no evidence.
