    You’ll enjoy this kale shake that’s simple to make as well as tasty!
    Timestamps:
    0:00 Here’s a kale shake that actually tastes good, even without berries or fruit
    0:45 I use frozen organic kale
    1:38 Make sure you blend the kale with water first so it doesn’t foam up too much
    2:19 Add raw wheatgrass juice powder, and lemon flavor, to sweeten the shake
    3:15 If you want to consume this as a meal, you can add coconut oil
    4:05 This is a very low-glycemic drink
    I want to tell you about making kale shakes without berries or fruit since some people don’t want the carbohydrates those items contain. First, blend the kale. I use the organic frozen kale from Trader Joe’s, and fill the blender about two-thirds full with the frozen kale.
    Next, I add water to the same level as the kale, then blend for four minutes. Make sure you use a high-powered blender, or else the kale doesn’t come out smooth. The reason I blend the kale first is that otherwise, it foams up too high if you put in other ingredients before blending it.
    Then add the rest of the ingredients, blending briefly after you add each one: one to three teaspoons of lemon juice, which helps prevent kidney stones and calcium deposits. One scoop of raw wheatgrass juice powder, lemon-flavored, which contains stevia and adds some sweetness without the carbs. One teaspoon of electrolyte powder, to get the benefit of its trace minerals and extra potassium.
    Be sure to blend only briefly! If you do it too long, the shake will foam and overflow the blender.
    If you want to consume this shake as a meal, add one teaspoon of coconut oil. You can add more if you want. This gives you some seriously good fat. I love 100 percent organic, virgin, cold-pressed, and unrefined coconut oil.
    There aren’t many carbs in the kale and low in protein. This is a very low-glycemic drink. If you’re on a two-meal per day schedule, you can drink this shake during your eating window, or in the morning when you wake up. What I do is drink half of it with a meal, wait an hour, then drink the rest. I store the shake in mason jars.
    This shake is sometimes my entire salad for the day! It doesn’t really matter exactly when you drink it, it’s a matter of how much you can consume with a meal without feeling stuffed. If you need to, break it up into portions and consume a little at a time.

    For a low carb smoothie, I use avocado to give it a creamy consistency the same way a frozen banana would do. Then, I add greens, ground Chia or flax, MCT oil, collagen, cinnamon, and birch Xylitol, or erythritol, or stevia to sweeten.

    I like to buy bunches of organic kale (they run $1 each some stores) so that I can inspect it before washing and freezing the kale myself.
    I’ve found that using less liquid on the first blend makes it finer since the components don’t have the capacity to float away from the blades.I later add more liquid to make it juice like.

    I make 2 main smoothies that I alternate between -- one purple and one green. Both have frozen avocado, protein powder and/or collagen powder, coconut/mct oil, stevia, hemp seeds, and chai. If I am doing green, I add kale and spirulina. If I'm doing purple, I add a package of no sugar added frozen acai puree, maqui powder, and sometimes a little cocoa powder. I do this because blues and purples have your anti-aging and beauty nutrients. I usually add it to a bowl and sprinkle dried unsweetened coconut flakes on top for added crunch.

      3:20 Adds a "teaspoon of coconut oil" but really it's a huge chunk that he is balancing on the spoon. It looks a little bigger than even a tablespoon quantity, to me. I think Dr. Berg doesn't know the difference between teaspoon and tablespoon and he means tablespoon every time he says teaspoon. Or he knows the difference but his brain keeps saying the wrong thing. ...Because the amount of lemon juice he added was plausibly 3 tablespoons worth or close to it.

Now instead of opening fridge 100 times per hour for empty snack I open it more rarely and have a sip of smoothie (thats 2nd glass I make just for “snacking”) . Ok so I’ve been watching closely to videos for the past week regarding Keto.. I decided yesterday to start doing this.. I searched for the electrolyte powders online (since my husband also needs them in his water while Roofing) and seen they had them at GNC. I also purchased wheat grass powder from them too so I could get started right away. I came home and blended my frozen Kale in 2 different blenders. I added freshly squeezed lemon juice and added organic stevia since the wheat grass didn’t have any added flavor, and organic coconut oil... It tasted like grass lol 😆 after staining the chunks of kale and eating the chunks with some eggs.. i remembered to put in the electrolytes in my drink that had a lemon lime flavor... oh my gosh it made a HUGE difference. I was able to drink half of the 6 cup drink and my husband actually didn’t spit it out right away like the first try.. but I came to the conclusion that I’d rather use the same electrolytes and grass powder he uses here in the video.. Because they both had flavoring to make this so much better.. I can’t wait until my shipment comes in!! This is quicker and easier for me since I have twin girls (1yr old) and I don’t have to think of how to incorporate or consume all my veggies in one day

    This is awesome and perfect timing! Just yesterday I was searching for your Kale drink recipe! I didn’t have all of the ingredients so I just used organic kale, fresh ginger root and lemon juice that I juiced with my juicer. Before adding the lemon and ginger I tasted the Kale. Yuck! You’re correct! It tasted horrible! Ha! Now, I just tried this and it tastes amazing! So grateful for you, all you’re doing for us, and for all of your recipes too! Thank you!

    I had my FIRST ever Spinach with little bit kale shake and I like it!! One cup water, big big handful of greens, half cup (14 blueberries, and three large slices frozen peach ) and few slices bananas. I did not need any other sweetner or powder ($$$). I am so surprised with the fact that I really like it! I think because I've been sugar free for a month and half , my taste buds are more accepting of less sweet things. I'm ever so pleased!;!!

    I knew I wasnt going to be abke to eat 7-10 cups of veges a day, so every morning I make a Kale smoothie. When I found this video I was surprised to see that so does Dr Berg. I like to "get it all in at once" so my recipe is as follows; 1 large handful of kale (I freeze my greens), 1 large handful of another green, the 2 powders Dr Berg has in his recipe(wheatgrass&electrolyte), 16 ounces filtered water, 1/4 tsp spirulina, 1 T flaxseed oil, 1 tsp Codliver oil, 1 tsp sea Kelp, 1/4 avacado (dont like avacados), 1 tsp apple cider vinegar that I make, 1/4 tsp trace minerals...oh! And a small scoop of Neuro-Mag (through Life Extension. I drink this when I eat my protein and I eat 2 times a day. It actually tastes just fine. No fishy taste.

    Since Dr. Berg said Kale, Parsley, and Beet Leaves (aka. "chard") make the best smoothie, that's the basis of every evening time drink, with other stuff, like radishes, celery, romaine, garlic, broccoli sprouts thrown in. But none of this stuff is good-tasting, although you can get used to it. I find that throwing in a beetroot will not only make it taste good, but, no matter how green it was, turn it purple. Other things to improve the taste: red bell peppers, nutritional yeast, turmeric, fresh ground black peppercorns, and Himalayan Sea Salt. But a big killer of all that bitterness - a tablespoon of organic Ceylon Cinnamon. And I use much less water: I drink it as thick as pea soup: a powerful blender only needs about a half cup of water, maybe a little less, to get started; after that, there's plenty of water in the vegetables themselves.

    • @jganun
      @jganun 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've used as much as two tablespoons-full, but, after all, cinnamon is powdered tree bark (the live, inner part, not the hard outer bark); I don't know if there might be a limit to how much of that one can digest. By the way, every ingredient I mentioned, I buy organic. Making it thick keeps it down to one liter, when I started out, I was using more water, and drinking almost two liters every evening. That's too much!

    • @jganun
      @jganun 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not everyone agrees, but when I say cinnamon, I mean (organic) Ceylon Cinnamon. I notice that Dr. Berg uses Saigon Cinnamon - many say that this has too much coumarin ( an ingredient of rat poison), which the Ceylon variety doesn't have, and shouldn't be eaten in large doses. In fact, in ancient times, Ceylon Cinnamon was the only cinnamon, all the other varieties from Vietnam, Indonesia, China, etc. were given the name Cassia. Unless it says otherwise, grocery store cinnamon is actually cassia.

    I do not get excited about machines - ANY machines. But. I must say the Vitamix blender is the only way to go. I finally bit the bullet, found a good used one on eBay, got it home, set it up, filled it and flicked it "on" and began to turn away to do something else...
    But I could not! Instead I stopped and starred, mezmerized: quiet, almost a purr, immense power, carefully controlled... Vitamix is the jaguar of the blender kingdom

      Love my Vitamix and not all models are $500....and you can buy refurbished too . Warranty is long too, often 7 years (refurbished 5 years). You can do a lot more than a smoothie with a Vitamix. I paid a little over $400 for mine, but have been using it daily, sometimes 3 times (family of 6) . You can even make hot soups in some models, and even have a self cleaning function where you just need to add some water and a few drops of dish soap, use the "cleaning" function and it will clean itself (you avoid cutting your fingers on the blades this way!). Anyway, easy to dismiss the Vitamix brand due to high price but when you research it, you will soon understand why it isn't cheap, and worth it !

    • @phillipmcneely8384
      @phillipmcneely8384 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The damage to the enzymes that you are trying to avoid is caused by excessive heat that is caused by blending for a long time. In order to avoid excessive heat, pause the blender and add ice cubes before the sides of the blender start to warm up.
      The risk of overheating also explains why Dr Berg told us that he freezes the kale (overnight, I imagine)
