    Since I know someone is going to ask about Thermals (And the fact that I didn't put in the thermal slides) The voltages on all these processors remained stock to achieve the speeds that we did, SO the thermals were not really any higher than stock speeds. 60s for the i7, high 50s for the i5 and low 50s for the i3.

      I've been having some weird issues with my 7700k, at stock (1.2v) I get 80+ under cpu+fpu Aida64 but only 60 when doing Aida64 just cpu. This is at an ambient on 30c, it led to me returning my cooler (h115i) thinking there was an issue but then the store sent it back to me because they found no problem with it.
      Should the 7700k get that hot under that bench?

      I'm pretty sure that the most expensive place to by any computer parts in the western world is Australia. They literally have no computer manufacturing infrastructure at all, Everything is shipped in from abroad! In Europe we have plenty of computer manufacturers, in fact most major PC components manufacturers have factory's in Europe and they just ship in the silicon and the chips from elsewhere, like America or China for example. I'm in the UK, and PC components are pretty expensive here compared to America. But nothing compared to the charges over in Australia.

    • @ragtop63
      @ragtop63 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      60 FPS doesn't automatically mean Slow Motion. If you play back any video at the exact frame rate it was shot, you will get real-time motion. It just looks sharper because the frames are passing by faster and reducing the motion blur.

      A1sd Gaming YES! I feel like I know more than enough about all the i5's and i7's over the past few years. But I know nothing about Intel's other processors.

    • @CMstacker
      @CMstacker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Zen is coming... F*** the Pentiums! :D
      Dual cores even if hyperthreaded are worthless in 2017 and frankly they should have died out ~5 years ago.... but Intel likes to milk it˙s fanbase cause money. And people would still buy this waaaaaaaaaaay overpriced $189 i3 and pair it with gtx 1070/1080 as i see in the comments.... madness and stupidity at it`s finest.
      Yeah i get it that those Pentiums are also way cheaper that this i3 here and they still have hyperthreading but only a bit lower clocks and a bit less cache maybe, but still not a great value in 2017. I reckon Zen quads will land near that price ($120-150) so everyone sane should wait for that first :).

    • @SuperJosteen
      @SuperJosteen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      CMstacker dual cores made up 40% of steam users, then again 70% of steam users only play dota 2 or cs go.

    • @CMstacker
      @CMstacker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! Dual cores are not for any serious use.... but they serve for spreadsheets and "moba" stuff and they will do for next decade for sure. But if you want AAA gaming, smooth productivity and any serious multitasking capabilities along with "power reserve" no way dual core is of any value at this point of time... and yes i consider i3 as "dual core" because that`s what it is. It only has 2 fpu units. Hyperthreading (SMT) is not always useful but physical cores are without doubt...

    • @DaybreakPT
      @DaybreakPT 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SR3 is a much cheaper i5 with Hyperthreading (SMT), so it is pretty cheap for what it is, about $70 off, and you don't have to spend almost the price of the cpu to overclock it since amd will be coming out with 3 different chipsets for ryzen mobos, and 2 of them have oc support, only the most basic does not to save money for the budget consumer which I think the best (and the high end one is for enthusiasts who want lots (and I mean LOTS) of pci-e lanes for 3+ ssds, hdds, multi-gpu setups and the like which 99% of us won't ever need.
      TL;DR: Go with Ryzen if you want a cheap i5 oc-able version + a cheap oc mobo to go with it with some extra (not over the top) features

  • @Chewyshoot

    You're acting like a 25% FPS drop is huge for a chip that's half the price. I'd say that i3 is perfect for the average gamer with a 1060/1070!

    • @feiticeirafatale561
      @feiticeirafatale561 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @Chewyshoot
      @Chewyshoot 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mena Suvari i feel you! I was like that for a while. i3 is the way to go. I built my mom a rig and just put a i3 in it and it carries it

    • @Shoddragon
      @Shoddragon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      gonna disagree hard here. the average person isn't going to be packing a $380+ video card for 1080p so I would say the 1070 is out of here.
      as for the 1060, the "average gamer" is a growing demographic that mutlitasks with different things like discord in the background. with games become more CPU intensive, I still feel like the i5 will be better. also if someone is getting an overclocking motherboard, it makes no sense to refuse to spend a few dozen dollars more on something that will last a few more years.

    I know it's a different subject, but I heavily disagree with your statement that more games need DX12 simply because that's giving Microsoft more control of gaming. What we really need is more OpenGL and Vulkan work and support to help the Linux and opensource industry

      sparkplug1018 because propel aren't using it enough. That's changing though, Linux is rising in both game library and users. If I recall correctly Linux desktops are about 3% of desktops

    • @sparkplug1018
      @sparkplug1018 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clacking Computer While correct (I recall the number is somewhere around 3%) Its still hardly enough to make it even worth the effort. Plus there being several different core versions it makes it fairly hard.

    If AMD Ryson CPU's are even equal to Intel CPU's I'm crushing my i5 6600k and Z170 with my 40 ton hydraulic press to buy an AMD 8 core just out of principal to say fuck you to Intel and to help AMD to keep the competition going. The last 5 generations of Intel CPU's were one giant middle finger to everyone with a brain.

      Ryzen isn't going to be a cheap as people are making it out to be. From the leaked info I have seen the 8c 16t model will cost $349, the black version with higher OC will be $499. Early sample with lower clocks did really well with handbrake and multi threaded apps but in gaming it was close to i5 6500. Things could change and it could do a lot better but don't hold your breath that Ryzen is going to be the second coming of Christ and offer more perf then i7 7700k for $150. that just isn't going to happen

    Actually pretty impressed, was expecting a much bigger drop off with the i3, and the advantages of DX12/newer API's are getting obvious. Great vid, liked! Could you compare a stock 7500 to an overclocked 7350k, and then a BCLK overclocked 7500 to the i3? Pretty sure the new hyperthreaded pentiums are gonna spell an end to the i3 for entry level gaming systems though.

    Damn it, I'm still not going to upgrade my i5 3570K back from 2012. I've upgraded several GPUs over the years, I'm currently using 1070 G1 gaming but to be frank Intel is boring as fuck.

    • @johntotten4872
      @johntotten4872 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I adopted a new PC build every 4 years and a new gpu every 2 years cycle. That way I can get good use out of my cpu but also take advantage of the new features they include with the new chipsets (ie m.2 slots, usb 3.1, sata express) and also bump up my performance a little with a new cpu. I agree with the small 10% bumps each year in perf (cept for kaby lake) it isn't price effective to constantly upgrade

    • @TormentorD
      @TormentorD 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Wait...a CPU is boring? how exactly would a CPU be fun or exciting? you want a CPU that makes you touch yourself when thinking "oh man, I HAVE THIS CPU"?
      That's easy, get a few of the the most extreme server CPUs Intel has and a 1-2K $ motherboard to run them. You will be in debt for a while, but at least you'll touch yourself more often, because boy oh boy, exciting CPUs, they run Windows 'n sht, even other software, like office and winrar.

      Ah, the 2600k is significantly cheaper yeah. The 3770k is still up near or over $300 for the lowest priced on ebay, it was over $400 last time I checked. PC part prices are insane these days, people asking close to or more than the original price for a used part.

    • @Najvalsa
      @Najvalsa 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clock for clock, the performance difference between a 3770K and a 7700K is 0-10%. Sauce: www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-intel-skylake-core-i7-6700k-review

    • @EspHack
      @EspHack 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol it will murder even the 7600k if you match the clocks, and using high speed ram will only further the gap
      anything after sandy bridge is a marginal improvement at best, fast DDR4 will help a lot when the cpu is being pegged but not many people demand over 100fps and by the time a 2600k cant do 60fps at the current pace of things I believe the earth wont be round anymore

      jordocondi Boi just look son Excavator based Carrizo APU has 7.21 mm² CUs. This gives a process scaling factor of about 0.41. If we put this together with individual design scale factors, the Zen core size is measured to be around 4.9 mm² including L2 cache. son ryzen is almost half the size meaning it cost less to produce than excavator CPUs boi. and look up the price of the 4350 son for more proof

      jordocondi so what you're saying is that manufacturing silicon Wafers does not cost shitt boi get your head off the ground ,first off I give you that silicon is not that uncommon of an element but you said it yourself R fucking D meeting manufacturing process yes R&D has something to do with the actual final cause of the CPUs I'm not saying that R&D does not cost , but if you look at their current architecture of CPUs excavator which is almost twice as big and sold their most expensive CPU at $220 I'm not saying $300 is going to be the final price I'm saying to be the most competitive $300 should be where they launch boy and yes I like my own comment to get more upvotes so that more people would see it boi

    • @donscarfa777
      @donscarfa777 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jordocondi oh something I forgot look at the volume of sales of those $700 processors just look at the sales numbers and compare those to the sales of the i7 6700k at $300 most people spend $300 or less on their CP and that's why I put the RYZEN 8 core at $300 in my prediction same thing with Polaris in the GPU architecture you know 80% of people spend $300 or less on their graphics cards same goes for CPUs except for the CPU Market is a lot bigger than the GPU Market a hell of a lot bigger boi

  • @MichaelSodapop
    @MichaelSodapop 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The idea behind Intel is that a decent gaming PC should cost in excess of $1,200.00 USD including OS. Which is just translates to elitism IMO, basically telling anyone with less to loose more in the long run via consoles. Yeah it's possible to build a fairly modern quad core Intel rig for a grand or less but then you're making major quality sacrifices in other areas. AMD really needs to offer their Ryzen equivalent stuff at a significantly lower price, 50-75 less won't cut it.

    As always, nice video, Jay! But I think at the beginning of the video you said it wrong about the CPU clocks: 4.2 GHz is the i7's and the i3's BASE clock, so it should be "...500 MHz OC to the BASE clock to both the i7 and the i3...". BTW, Intel's website doesn't even list the i3's turbo clock, so does it have any? Just my two cents.

  • @FlatBedLife717
    @FlatBedLife717 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So if you 1080p game and on a budget, just build an i3 rig. You can save 20 on the cpu by not going to an i5, which is marginally better. pair it with a 1060 and play on high settings for a decent gaming experience. Once you get passed the smoke and mirror of the FPS numbers clogging your brain you'll quickly realize going 1440p gaming(over 100mhz refresh) or higher, wanting over a 100 FPS with Ultra high settings is all about bragging in a sense and kind of the same thing as buying a luxury car. Just not necessary!!! Awesome video as usual Jay.
    My current computer is 3+ years old: Which runs BF4 at high settings on a 1080p 23 inch TV quite nicely, and perfectly for RB6 Seige.
    i3-2100 3.1GHz
    Asus P8H77 MOBO
    G.Skill Sniper (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3L 12800) memory
    MSI GTX760 4GB
    Like I said,we have become fixated on the FPS number. If your a budget gamer than spend wisely. If you have money to blow get the best so you can have bragging rights and that sweet 200 FPS second on a game that you'll never be able to physically see the difference. Just my two CENTS.
    HAPPY GAMING ALL!

    Hi Jay.
    Whit your previous background on IT u should be able to find a developer that could set up a normal use case for a programer, for example a virtual machine running the server of an app, android Studio IDE and and the android emulator, spotify for music some tabs open on chrome, skype or similar.
    This could help other branch of people to get more from your videos beside the typical gaming/overclok that u are more focused on (not that its bad or anything like that).
    For me running my laptop that has a i5-5200U and 8GB of ram with dual monitor and a workflow similar to that one I have a lot of issue and would be nice to have some more feedback on this kind of usage to decide what to put on my next pc
