    basically intel took the 6700k and 6600k increased out the box speed and called it a new cpu... get the fuck outta here intel

      But they seem to run cooler. Apparently you can reach 5GHz on air cooling.

      No, hes right, you can get 5ghz on air with the 7700k, but that was after they had delidded the cpu.

    • @hionmaidenzzz9209

      7600k is still not a viable upgrade unless you're using an older I5/I7. My 6600k is 5.1ghz and it runs amazingly well, the kaby-lake just is a refresh with higher clocks and that is basically it. I haven't even delidded my cpu, and it's at 5.1ghz @ 1.35v and never goes above 50'c. Rather keep this than blow £230 on a 7600k and get the same performance

  • @redcatxb125
    @redcatxb125 7 ปีที่แล้ว +708

    So basically the Kaby lake processors are just the skylake ones at a higher clock

    • @___Robin___
      @___Robin___ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      exactly some websites claim that clock to clock kaby lake and skylake will perform equally and if they run a couple of test it's a 50 50 if either skylake or kaby lake is going to win. Honestly intel would have been better rebranding skylake to kaby lake without changing anything since the end result is the same and those features Paul speaks about are cut of skylake just so kaby lake has at least something. I hope no-one buys these idiotic chips, unless you build an entire new system, but I would rather have a cheaper skylake than a kaby lake.

      Tucker Higgins when the architecture is the same, ghz can improve speed alot. on jayz he has an aircooled kaby lake at 5.00 ghz which is immense

    • @poeticsilence047
      @poeticsilence047 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      RedcatPlaysGames Seems like all Intel is doing is saving their best silicon to bring out their incremental updates to their processors. Seems to be a trend there is not big differences between them and if you have a 6700k which most people still don't have it is not necessary to upgrade for the prices they like to charge. This is just my opinion,of course. The changes in the chipsets are appreciated though. To me this just shows they need competition.

      Zen is doing fine though? Like, really really well. It comes really close to the 7700k in gaming(esp. when the games have been optimized for it and you have high memory speed along with the best bioses) and that will only continue to improve as time goes on and it utterly destroys intel on the creation front(rivaling and beating a $1.2k processor with 2 more cores than it) so...
      I don't see how we're screwed.

      Do you really think that an i3 even overclocked will continue to beat an i5 with games continuing a trend of better using more cores? It already costs nearly as much as an i5 and you still need a heatsink and to spend more on an overclockable motherboard, really just save the money on the z series chipset and the cooler and put that $100 or so into a better gpu or ssd or more case fans or buy some steam games, there are better ways

    It still remains to see a showdown in overclockability over the same cooling solution using the different chips, and then do benchmarks with the max overclock of all chips (keeping in mind the silicon lottery of course).
    Jay reported an "easy" overclock of 5 GHz on the 7700k using regular AIO watercooling with 1.325V running 75C during load (the sweetspot), so there's your advantage over Skylake.
    I'm sure we'll see people reaching 5.1 or 5.2 GHz with some extra effort in the near future, at least with custom loops.

    I went in to Kaby Lake expecting to see a similar situation to the Hazwel refresh 4790k/4690k vs 4770k. This even underperforms that expectation. It would not surprise me if the only architectural change in these cpus was the hardware support for HDCP 2.2. How is this a "New" architecture? This just seems to be Skylake with better yields after a year in production (even that is in question because of the high core voltages they run at out of the box). It is BS that Intel can get away with calling Kaby Lake a new architecture just because it sounds better in marketing than a refresh would.

The other processors would need a more expensive air cooler or water cooling for that. Also with water cooling 7700k can reach the promised land of milk and honey of 5GHz.

    It will be interesting to see Kaby Lake's overclockability after more time has passed. Maybe if you lost out really badly on the silicon lottery for the 6700k you could have more success with Kaby Lake. Jay and Gamer's Nexus both got their samples to 5.0 GHz seemingly without difficulty. Personally I'm hoping for a hex core or octa core with Skylake IPC performance.

  • @NaN_92
