    $650 dollars, is a bit steep if you're looking purely at emulation. But considering it's a whole PC with a pretty power efficient mobile processor and honestly better performance than I'd expect for the price (minus the not so great looking logo imo) it is a solid package! That PS2/Wii U emulation is looking so nice though!

      You could, or used to able to build a pretty decent PC for that. Not anymore. Probably won't be long until these will be in the $200-$300 range like the early ryzen ones are now.

    Wow- your review was SO MUCH MORE HELPFUL than ETA Prime's. Not to knock the OG, but like a lot of his stuff, I was left a little puzzled at the end: Can it emulate or can't it? The price is pretty steep - if you are comfortable with very basic PC building, get yourself a 5600g and a MicroATX motherboard and small case, and you'll get yourself a much better PC - for around $550, a $100 saving (much more upgradable too). The only downside is the size increase - but if you shop around you can get some pretty compact Micro ATX cases 👍

      Just based on specs and how it handles modern games in the couple videos we've seen of the steam deck running its will be as good or better. The steam deck has a definitely better igpu but emulators lean more on cpu power which on paper is about the same. 4 cores 8 threads and very similar ipc and sustained clock speeds.

    • @RetroGameCorps
      @RetroGameCorps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mattb6522 There are definitely other, cheaper options out there, but this one's build quality and capability did really impress me. I've tested about six mini PCs at this point and this one seems to be a better price/performance ratio at that higher tier. It's at that level where I can comfortably use it as a desktop PC for all non-gaming tasks, but then also does gaming really well too. The tier below this is about $500 and doesn't compare in performance.

    I have a laptop with a very similar CPU, and I get similar performance in Dolphin, except my CPU overheats and the game freezes every minute or so. It's a new laptop so I don't think dust is a cooling issue, and newer games, like Forza Horizon 5 run fine (at low settings ofc). How did you get Dolphin to run without overheating?

    • @RetroGameCorps
      @RetroGameCorps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, that is weird. I didn't do anything special with Dolphin other than install it and set the graphics to 1080p. The only thing I can think of is that this has much better cooling performance, but if you're getting okay PC gameplay then it might be moot. It might just be that Dolphin isn't well optimized for the integrated GPU on your laptop.

    How does this compare to the $475 Beelink SER3? The 3750H is a weaker processor, but I don't remember if in your SER3 review you ever experimented with the TDP settings of the SER3. Would increasing the TDP of the SER3 make it more competitive with the Intel as a emulation machine?

    Do you think it would be possible to save some money with Batocera by simply creating a new drive partition on the existing drive as opposed to purchasing a new drive? I get that it could make sense if you have a ton of games, but if you don't have that many, I could see a 64-128Gb partition being perfectly fine for that. I think they both require FAT32 as well.

    temps higher than 65 C is not good. 75 C can be critical for components close to CPU. SSD inside may live not long even without overclocking above normal TDP. such boxes have no cooling adequate for games. for games you need to use better and mb quiter coolers (for ex. notebook cooling pad as Deepcool N1), to modify the case by holes or to remove a part of the case. also it seems slow for games for such price. it's good only as media player, internet terminal and office worker

    Overpriced, underpowered. Trounced by a laptop - which also has a screen, kb + mouse, so is fully flexible.
    These expensive "mini PCs" are utterly pointless when there are so many great laptops available.

      I think they're different use cases, but I can see your point. I haven't gotten into the laptop space yet, that's definitely something I'm interested in checking out!

      Yeah, the price does undermine the theatre PC use case for something like this but It does have better thermal headroom for the CPU. My Intel Iris Xe based laptop came with a 45w charger even though the TDP is set at 28w. If I didn't have a 65w charger, the performance on it would be severely limited. Unfortunately, a lot of the i5 1135G7 were inside ultrabook chassis.

      They're pretty good SSDs, I'm no expert but they seem to be middle-of-the-road between price and quality.
