      Recent, I have a I7 870 and was getting decent FPS in games with med settings and 1080p with a old ass ati HD card. People just enjoy building things as something to do or want the latest and greatest.
      If the cpu is for cpu only things then I would agree somewhat based on job vs personal use.
      More convince vs money imo.

      Bruh, I am in the process of selling my i7 6700k. I don't even give a fuck anymore, selling my GTX 1070 as well. Ryzen SR8 (8 cores and 16 Threads) and Vega will be my new rig by summer time. I know it sounds risky but I live in Canada so it's cool (cause we live in igloos and AMD couldn't possibly set my igloo on fire).

      $450 you could get a cpu and a gpu. You're pretty much getting the i7 for 70 bucks at this point.

    Wow, Intel is actually trying to lock UHD? What the fuck?

    • @XDeadzX
      @XDeadzX 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Intel isn't the one locking it, HDCP is. It's not Intel's fault that this is the first processor to support a brand new HDCP layer. They just happen to be the first HDCP 2.2 product out. AMD and NVidia will be coming through with HDCP 2.2 support in their next hardware revision too.

    • @TB-zm3zc
      @TB-zm3zc 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think more of the blame falls on Microsoft and Netflix. The intel part of the whole mess has to do with a hardware-based codec requirement. MS and Netflix are the ones locking UHD streaming to the Edge browser. Then again they are both data mining tech corps, so I'm not all that surprised they are using the privacy-sucking Edge/Windows 10 combination.

    • @bingokemski4473

      You're going to have to wait until 2018 as when Cannonlake first launches, it's only going to be for mobile products for quite a while. In the meantime, Coffee Lake is meant to hold people over. It's an optimization of an optimization (Kaby Lake), but it's meant to bring 6 cores to the main desktop market, probably to compete with Ryzen.

    Wait, I might just be a little stupid, but he said the Z270 Motherboard will allow you to overclock the unlocked Kabylake processors. If I get the 7700K will my ASUS Sabertooth Z170 S motherboard be able to overclock it, or should I then just get a 6700K and be able to overclock it?

    • @paulshardware
      @paulshardware  7 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      You can still overclock Kaby Lake or Skylake processors on Z-series chipsets -- so Z170 or Z270 will work for overclocking for Skylake or Kaby Lake. Main benefit of Z270 is more HSIO PCI-E lanes (+4), Optane support (confirmed only for 200-series boards so far), new features like the USB 3.1 front panel connector and better M.2 SSD configurations.

    • @BottomOfTheDumpsterFire

      Your Z170 will be able to overclock it, however you will likely require a BIOS upgrade for 7700K support.

    • @dondraper4438
      @dondraper4438 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Actually Intel wouldn't give them the licensing, which is why AMD took so long creating, and trade marking their own Simultaneous Multi Threading technology @ Fzmh. After it was all said and done, AMD still sold them certain licences from their Radeon graphics. AMD's mantle also led to Vulkan which ended up influencing Microsoft to release Direct X12 with multi core scaling in mind for triple A titles.
      AMD is a lot of things, slow, out dated, noncompetitive. One thing they are not though, is anti consumer.

    This 4K locked to Kaby Lake is nonsense. Even a 5 year old laptop has more than enough processing power to stream 4k movies. This is the kind of shit that would get people to stop buying your products Intel/Netflix/M$...

    • @procrastinator7408
      @procrastinator7408 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** No, Kaby Lake comes with hardware to run encrypted software. That way they will close the decoding hole. The video decoder is delivered to your computer encrypted, it's run encrypted, the video stream is encrypted and every copy of every frame will be encrypted at all times and will be output on an encrypted HDCP connection. There will be no way to rip movies by dumping memory or anything as it will all be encrypted.

    • @sjoerdhendriks9574
      @sjoerdhendriks9574 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Procrastinator7 yeah i know, but who actually rips movies from netflix? And now if you want to watch Netflix in 4k you need a 7th gen CPU, money for Intel, the Edge browser= money for Microsoft, not to mention the rest of the conpanies involved.

    • @Jarl_69
      @Jarl_69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** I'm wondering what Netflix has to gain from all this. Surely they are losing money on people not upgrading to the 4k subscriptions, and why should they care if people are ripping Hollywood studios off?

      @Najvalsa 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ivy Bridge to Kabylake, clock for clock, there's only a 0-10% difference in performance, which holds true for Sandy Bridge in most cases as well. The only gains you get each generation is pretty much in power efficiency, so no reason to upgrade at all.

      As long as 4K blu-rays will work without Intel chips then I don't really care. I won't bother with 4K streaming until internet bandwidth is more consistent. I don't think I've ever even reached the advertised speed, day or night. *I've probably hit 40Mbps of the advertised 60Mbps.
      If 4K blu-rays do not work without buying the new Intel chips then that'll basically cement my resolve to never buy Intel again. Exclusive deals don't help make things better. They screw over the customers.

      Joe1up I'm really hoping for amd to challenge intels dominance over the cpu market, but everyone got on the hype train when people were saying the 400 series of amd gpus were going to be on par with nVidias 1000 series, so I'll pass on the hype train, but I am hoping amd can improve their ability to compete with ryzen.

    • @Immebehindyou999
      @Immebehindyou999 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Well, the RX 460 is better option than 1050/1050ti.
      For just $20 more, you can buy the RX 470 for 1.5x better perfomance.
      And the RX 480 as said by a lot of people, is better, and would be better, than a GTX 1060.

      @Immebehindyou999 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      moparjr89 RX 460 is better than a 1050, since it's cheaper.
      Also since nVidia clearly doesn't know how to price things properly, it costs only 20$ less than a RX 470, which is a huge jump in perfomance.

    Why does this Kaby Lake make it's way out now that I have finally build my dream Skylake -build in my head and I have the items in my cart ready for ordering?
    I remember since like early 2000's I have been a fool for waiting for new innovation and always kinda "coping on" with my previous older PC build because I've been waiting for the next new big thing, and then usually when it comes up I still end up waiting for the next one. This went so far that I was gaming on an HD3850 card from 2008 until 2012... and now I am updating from my i5-3450, GTX660 setup to i7-6700K and 1060 6GB system...
    or am I?

    So if I'm not interested in optane, my current z170 board won't have any less performance with a 7700k than a z270 would?

  • @JohnPurcell
    @JohnPurcell 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    RE: optane ready
    There's new instruction sets that need to be on the CPU to allow proper use of Optane. Since it's higher-latency than DRAM, but still similar speed it needs special architecture support for its new place in the product stack.
    Though Optane technology could still end up in DIMM's and SSD applications, those applications rely on the existing DRAM/NVME/SATA architecture to communicate along, not just PCIe or memory bandwidth concerns.

    Hey, I've got an i5-4690K on Z97 with DDR3. I'm bottlenecking the hell out of my 1080 and was wondering if saving for an i7-7700K would be wise. Considering I do nearly 4k video editing, I believe the increased performance over the i5 variant would benefit me. Also being similarly priced to Skylake for slightly better performance. If price wasn't a problem for me, what would your suggestion be? Get Kaby Lake now or get Skylake knowing better performance is out there for the same money? Or perhaps I should wait for Cannonlake which is rumored to be revealed in Q2 2017; right around the time I'm getting money for an upgrade?

    • @BrokenRRT
      @BrokenRRT 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ejuice - if you're a AMD fan than wait a bit. If you're a Intel fan than go with a i-5 6600k (skylake) perfect for gaming or if you do streaming while gaming or make content as well as game then go i-7 6700k (skylake) either of those two in a Z170 board will last you for at least 2 years before thinking about upgrading again. You can also run both those skylake CPUs in the new Z270 boards. That being said .. the Z170 boards are still new enough and great for gaming and overclocking so no reason to buy a z270!
      I've always built my gaming machines with AMD processor. I've built 8 of them since 2005. This past month I decided to build my son a new gaming rig. He had a 990 board with a FX6300. The board wouldn't support a 8350 or any 8 series AMD processors. So after researching plenty into buying him a new board that would support the 8350 I realized it's either wait for ZEN or it's time to jump over to intel. I have no doubt the AMD Zen CPU will be a beast but at what cost and I had no time?!?! The current price for a i5 or i7 skylake is a bit high but paired with a Z170 board it's worth every penny! Plus they will both be future proof for sometime.
      For his build I went with the i5 6600k, ASUS aura Z170 gaming board, and a MSI 1060 GPU and his system it blowing away a FX8350 we have.
      This all coming from a AMD fan boy!
      Hope it helps!
      I will still be building a zen rig in the near future... I hope.
