New Tesla Model 3 - what's changed?

- Meet the updated Tesla Model 3!
It’s been 7 years since the Model 3 was first unveiled, and this is the biggest design overhaul yet! The question is, how much has changed? Well, Mat’s got hands-on with the car to take a closer look.
In terms of the design, there are a few notable changes. Up top, there are a pair of slimmer, sleeker headlights, and there’s also a big central vent as part of the bumper. This helps give it a more aggressive look compared to the previous model. The side profile remains pretty similar to before, apart from a set of new alloy wheel designs. Around the back, the Model 3 comes with updated taillights and a new bumper. The car is also available in a couple of new, exclusive paint colours!
On the inside, the look and feel are still pretty similar to before, but there are a couple of notable differences. While the large landscape infotainment screen remains, the dash around it has been updated, with new LED lights added to it. There a better quality materials to be found throughout the cabin compared to before, and the infotainment system has been updated and is much quicker and more responsive than before. The indicator buttons have now also been integrated into the steering wheel.
When it comes to performance, the Model 3 still comes with a single-motor RWD edition and a dual-motor long-range edition. However, aerodynamic improvements and overall performance updates mean the car can now travel further, with the single-motor RWD having a range of 346 miles, while the dual-motor can travel for up to 423 miles!
The new Model 3 won’t be released in the UK until next year, but thankfully, the price is set to stay pretty similar to before - so you can expect entry-level models to cost around £42,000. But will it be worth the wait? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

It's about time for some good old-fashioned car reviews again. It feels like ages since you did a review.

Ice is dying! And thats a good Thing.
@@gooldii1Ok 4 years old baby
Because all new cars a alike. Chassis, battery, touchscreen. The size of the screens varies though...
@@gooldii1they meant old fashioned, traditional reviews. Not reviewing “old fashioned” cars…
The suspension and the soundproofing were probably the two biggest complaints with the previous model, so it's good to see Tesla addressing them. The bump in range is also nice, but official figures should still be taken with a grain of salt.
On the negative side, steering wheel mounted turn signal capacitive buttons are a downgrade. At least make them real clicky buttons.
Yep. Seems like the sound of the Model 3 feels to loud.
Agreed, I can't see them working well on roundabouts when going from signalling right to signalling left to leave. Prob not much of a concern for US based users.
@@andrewjameswelch Who ever come up with the idea of signalling to enter and signalling to exit a round about has rocks in their heads. If you going to turn right or left signal before approaching and don't signal at all if you're going straight through.
@@mehmettemel8725 don't be so quick to criticise. In Europe we have a lot of huge roundabouts, where signaling right when exiting helps the other drivers a lot.
Perfect comment. I hate non sensitive/non clicking buttons.
Love the new Tezzzla
Wow, how brilliant are you getting an early look. Thank you!
Great to see having this early access for review given to Carwow!
Indeed!
They have almost 9 million subs , of course they’re going to get early access from manufacturers
What’s the point, like most Tesla vehicles, not out in the UK. Only really model Y now…
678 km of range, that's mind blowing
most selling car 2024? i bet so!
Congrats on the exclusive look, Mat! Looks like good improvements for the most part. Hate (HATE) the lack of stalks and the cabin feels less warm than the outgoing model, but these look like good changes for the most part. Love the liftgate.
Hate is a strong word Snazzman. Dislike?
Those indicator buttons are basically impossible to use in roundabouts. I never could get used to it in the new model S without looking down first.

_this update does not pass UK regulations_
Agreed, love a lot about these changes but removing the stalks is awful.
Thank you Mat for this update. It's appreciated.
1:04 I’m IN LOVE with the new colour. It looks so much more luxurious and the shape of the roof is subtlety better too. 😍
This looks great. The Model 3 was always a bit loud so really glad to see they're quieting it down. And efficiency is king!!
Ambient lighting is also a major W at least imo 😅.
I wish they added a front bumper camera and motorized frunk...
@@hunterrrdrivesnerds
@@anpatsalosThey added a front bumper camera.
@samthecar The car's software has a parking view that uses the car's camera to give you a warning to close obstacles.
This used to be done with ultrasonic sensors which were super accurate, but more expensive to build into the car. Now it uses the car's cameras, but the front window camera can't see over the bumper well so it's currently not as accurate as the old sensors.
This is a complete Model 3 at this point, has everything that all new cars coming out. Ventilated seats, interior lighting also range is improved! So good to see that!
Bet it still does not have a door handle on the inside part of the A pillar
Still doesn't. Two easy ones off the top of my head from the similarly priced 3 series: 360 camera and instrument cluster
Don’t forget stalks.
And everything.... EVERYTHING is still controlled by that silly touch screen. Tesla drivers pay more attention to their screen than the road.
@@crxtodd16 well that’s mostly what Tesla is known of when talking about interior, a minimal design. Cluster screen would of been a lot better that rear passenger screen, but hey there’s no unnecessary things when it comes to Tesla’s right 😁
Great, thorough review and most great changes to the car. Only negative changes being the stalks (as others have mentioned) and the removal of the lights from the back of the car. Seems less safe if you’re broken down or parked with the boot open
There are extra lights in the lower reflectors!!
I assume there are still no parking sensors
The new one looks like an AI generated car. It brings me no emotion either good or terrible. It's just so meh. The front looks like a Chinese fish. Nothing interesting at all still looks like an Egg. Still no HUD or gauge clusters or stalks. Car just screams plain jane. Still has those cheap looking plastic rims
Watched the motor trend video before this - learned absolutely nothing. Then Watched this one and it's in depth, wealth of info. Great stuff.
Ventilated seats, better sound insulation, same price and more range! Well done!
I hope we get a Model 3 Plaid in the near future!

Model 3 and model Y plaid would hurt a lotttttt of feelings
Crap build quality still :(
Thought they would go the same route as they did with the S by removing the stalks, can’t say I’m a fan, but the exterior looks better!
Yep. Removing the stalks genuinely gonna ruin the look of Model 3.
Great job! Bottom line…got it done…and moved along! Terrific!
pretty considerate to have the old model 3 there alongside it to make it easier to show the updates as you have here!
2:21 glad they didn’t decide to put the horn as a button, but instead an actual airbag horn
Tesla is stepping up their game, listening to customers and making their life better :D
@@Skafiskafnjak51 I’m glad their listening to the feedback
Yea, this car is game-changing. THIS will sell even more than before! It looks so good at every angle.
I won't be surprised if they put horn as a button on touch screen.
@@Cell4TR I would be surprised, because that defeats the whole point of a horn, which is to alert people of your presence and that causes a significant delay in doing so. In reality, it doesn't matter if it takes an extra 5-15 seconds to sort out climate control or to move the wheel that one time you need to change the position. A horn though, needs to be used quickly.
I'm also going to guess there are laws that require it to be positioned on the steering wheel.
August absolutely was jam packed with cool races. Doing car reviews sure seem refreshing although races with the chemistry of the people you bring are always appreciated as well
Always is epic.
Great to see the new range and I will 100% be getting one of these most likely the longer range

Fantastic early video Matt. Been waiting ages to see the car and you have detailed it nicely, will definitely be helping me swap in my current one when it releases. 😊

No stalks, absolutely insane. No way they're getting away with this with the average consumer
Agree.

Dumb move by Elon
What’s a stalk?
Ok. I never liked the model because I thought it was ugly, but these new changes definitely win me over.
Looks really good. Excellent refresh. ❤
The subtle facelift is really working, improved the looks for sure.
I love how all the Tesla focused channels have been clickbaiting us with titles like "ItS FiNaLlY hErE!!" For months with never any actual new information (an irritating experience) and then here I go to sit on the throne and drop some kids at the pool, and Car Wow just shows up with this quality piece, restoring my faith in the world.
I would recommend Electrified if you want to learn about that kind of stuff in a not very fanboyish manner.
All the updates I was waiting for Model 3, except lift back rear door.
Thank you Matt and Tesla team!
One of the reasons I didn't wait for this refresh was the lack of stalks - in the UK with the number of roundabouts we have, and the fact that you're constantly having to signal while turning the wheel means stalks are a huge necessity. Everything else is actually a nice upgrade.
Why do you have to signal in a roundabout? If you’re in the outer lane, you go straight or right. In the left lane, you’re goin round. No-one in the US signals when going around a rounds about. So I’m wondering why this is a concern for you in the UK
@@johnauletta7685 it's the law. they have to signal
@@johnauletta7685 tbf, very few people in the UK actually know how to signal at a roundabout. You're meant to signal left when you leave a roundabout, which very rarely happens, so often it's more confusing if anything.
@@johnauletta7685most of the roundabouts don’t have lanes. Signalling is the law
Exactly, I tested this with my current car using the existing buttons on the steering wheel...a couple of windy roads and quick turns and a couple of roundabouts and my decision was made...no way am I giving my money to a company that thinks this is a good idea!
Some good upgrades here, but also some downgrades unfortunately. They took away the stalks and added those hopeless touch buttons instead for the indicator lights. 😭Those will be fun to use in roundabouts.. 🙄 That alone will be a potential deal breaker for some. Instead of a rear screen I would much prefer an instrument cluster or a heads up display since I don't have kids. I was a bit hyped, but I think I'll hold on to my model S a while longer..
It's so stupid that they removed the indicator stalk. I personally wouldn't buy a tesla but if I was looking for a tesla it would be a deal breaker for me to not an indicator stalk
Very few in America, China and India. Few people live elsewhere so does it really matter?
@@alex135789 more than 743.000.000 people just in Europe alone. There is about 3 billion living in USA, China and India combined, but almost 8 billion people on the planet in total. Do the math..
Besides, people In India are generally quite poor and won't be buying a tesla any time soon. The bestselling countries are mostly european. In Norway for example, 79% of every new car sold is an electric car. In the USA on the other hand it's only 5,6%
The indicator stock removal was a big no no and I’m also saddened though I haven’t seen enough comments abou the removal of the fog lights. It was a nice touch and additive for the entire car, like it is for other cars. Should’ve also added HUD. I’m confused why a company with so much money is being cheap
Add pointless rear screen, but not a hud or gauge cluster. Meh.@@theeternalnightmare2630
Yes. They change nearly everything I wanted. Especially the ventilated seats, the updated interior and new tail lights are absolutely great. And even more efficient. Nice job.
This package for this price means a lot of headache for Teslas competitors.
I'll buy it.
makes a harder decision to upgrade to the S, with better seats and more range
What makes the new taillights ‘absolutely great’? They are the same design style as so many other cars on the road in the last five years.
I really wish they would have kept the stalk turning signal and shifter.😂
I really like everything except the removal of the stalks, in Australia we need to indicate out of roundabouts, hard to do when your wheel is upside down, also although you only use it occasionally using a stalk to go fwd/rev backing out of a driveway or car spot is so much easier than faffing around on a screen or looking for this function somewhere else.
What is great about the taillights 😊
Finally a proper video without any click bait. Well done and thank you.
appreciate the side by side.
Going to be honest I like the exterior look of the old model but liking the interior changes more on this the newer model.
Absolutely love the changes.
Nice! I want to trade in my old one now!
One little nit-picking thing: I wish they'd allow you to customise the home screen/desktop screen to a nicer image than just the road map or the functions screen.
Some nice choices of ambient images to suit the interior styling I would've thought would be obvious.
Hopefully this has that feature🤔.
But like I said, not a big deal 😁.
Can come with software at any point !
I’d love that wallpaper feature !
Shit car
Thanks for putting the information in KM insted off miles
I think this is early access is very well deserved for car wow. 👏👏👏
loving all the improvements and changes they made on this new model besides the removal of stocks on the wheel. I’ve heard the lack of physical buttons is something that is really missed when buying a tesla and for them to remove even more physical attributes will be interesting to see. Still no HUD either, maybe one day but I feel like a HUD would improve the driving experience of this car a ton.
HUD is one thing I don't miss, the buttons, also not so much. The whole car is pretty much set up electronically to whoever is the driver and all the settings change when drivers change. HOWEVER... one thing I do hate is lack of real sensors. A major complaint from me and others is Tesla's removal of USS parking sensors a year ago. It's my biggest gripe with the car. The stalks I haven't driven without before, but I do like physical buttons for that. Overall.... still one of the best cars you can get in this price range.
An aftermarket HUD can be easily added for $100, so the only thing lacking after this upgrade is stalks. Really great update. Now I want to upgrade my Y when the Y refresh comes out.
yes, thats what you want to do with your brand new 40k+ car, void its warrenty 😅😅😅
@@jebes909090it still marvels me tesla can’t install a fuckin hud
@@isaiahbaah515 its why they make so much per car. They literally cheap out on every single thing they can, then claim its a feature. They call it 'spartan' interior 😅
Tesla uses "minimalistic" design as an excuse to cut manufacturing cost down and make their profit margins as much as possible. All a marketing tactic. Also lie about 0-60 times by using rollout. Lie about their range. Track pack plaid using illegal street tires for it'd 7:25 time. Whole Lotta lying
I got mine not even two months ago, now i wish i had more time to order a new car. I'd prefer to have the new one, its better looking from both the outside and inside. I'm not too sure about the turn-signals being operated with buttons though. It seems like it may get annoying when the steering wheel is not 100% straight, for example on roundabouts.
My guy please help a bro pay rent as I'm about to be in the streets. I know this is super random and weird, but I beg you.
Love the new looks and I'm glad they didn't change it too much! Also, ventilated seats are a nice offering in this price range. I can only imagine how good the new speakers must sound! The car was not lacking for range before but the new numbers are awesome!
Feels like upgraded Honda Accord tho.
Was this comment created by AI it's nearly word for word as couple of comments below or did you copy?😉😂
@@purwantiallan5089 Even the original Model 3 from 6 years ago handled in a much superior manner, like night and day compared to a Honda Accord. It had more room in the trunk, an additional frunk, and more headroom, shoulder room and leg room. And lets not talk about acceleration, LOL! The Accord was a great car in it's day, and it had the right form factor to be very practical, but it was nothing like a Model 3. It was not as safe in an impact either.
I recommend not judging a book by its cover. If you had ever owned both cars you would understand just how different they are. And that's saying a lot, because the Accord was not a bad car.
@mehmettemel8725 Neither, I commented before I read any of the other comments, I'm just very familiar with the original 2018 Model 3 (still have 2 of them), so I can readily tell which updates most users will find most significant.

The indicator stock removal was a big no no and I’m also saddened, though I haven’t seen enough comments about the removal of the FOG LIGHTS. It was a nice touch and additive for the entire car, like it is for other cars.
Should’ve also added HUD, it would’ve blew the naysayers out of the park.

The interior lighting is lovely.
The upgraded efficiency and performance is wonderful. Along with the upgraded interior design & components.
The new look will have mixed feelings flooding the masses.
Overall it’s not too shabby, I can’t wait to see what transpires in the next 4 years let alone the first to-few debuting years of the new kid on the block and how everyone will feel about the vaunted refreshed Model 3
Add on. 8.5-9/10 They could’ve kept the stalks and fog lights.
Turn signals are misplaced.
Put left arrow on left
Right arrow on right..
Everything else is phenomenal. HUD would’ve been a nice additive.. keeping the T logo on the rear should be an option, like having fog lights or not having them. Old 2023 Model and Refreshed one are equally nice to me
I don't think that removed the fog lights, I think they put it inside that big vent area, Matt doesn't say that they gave up on fog lights overall, just in the design of having them in those dedicated cutaways. If you look at the frame where the fronts are compared, the fog lights seem to be there, in that large vent area.
Tesla hasn't been an innovator since the original Model 3. The reason why "a company with so much money is being cheap": their executive is siphoning Tesla cash to fund his destruction of X. The rest of the board members really need to kick Musk out to get the company back on track. If you haven't noticed Tesla is starting to circle the drain - they can still turn this around if they get rid of Musk sooner rather than later though.
If they removed the fog lights maybe because they have a statistic from the software how many times an avg Tesla user turns them on.
I drove now 80.000 km with a model 3, and I guess I have turned them on only one time. 1x
Fog lights are inside the headlights.
I added a bunch of soundproofing options to our 2019 M3 - many websites sell them. That said what I'm disappointed about is that they didn't make the new M3 with a hatch. The M3 has a huge trunk but the rear height is constricted by that rear glass.
CarWow proves that being funny /positive an smiling is what people need and what they expect from videos. Keep up CarWow😍
Thanks. Its a good looking car to me and I like most of the changes. I'm not a fan of losing the stalks though (even though they may have made it less of an issue with software improvements). On NZ coarse chip roads the extra sound deadening would be very welcome!

Definitely heading in the right direction. Still think a heads up display would be a good compromise to keep the simplistic interior theme while allowing the main info to be in line of sight.
I tried a HUD using my phone and iPad on the dash but not convinced that it’s not just a distraction - if I need to see the speed, etc, I want to look for it, rather than have it there all the time, in my sight line. Maybe a quick switch - long press left button option? Or able to dim it or something, but not there 100% of the time. The car should be driving yo,u not you are driving the car. You are MUCH more likely to make a mistake or get into an accident than if the car is in control. Therefore, it negates the need for extra distractions. Tesla purpose is safety and yo,u as a human are not safe

Losing the indicator stocks could almost be bearable, but losing the gear selector stock is a big loss for me. Manoeuvring with the gear stock is great,, combined with ability to go from D to R with the car still rolling,
I'm picking we will get used to it pretty fast
@@mjc7254 no - and it’s not we - you
The removal of the turn signal stalk is a dealbreaker for me
@@pauld3327 I'll drive one before making that call...
What he heck is a stock? That's new to my car vocabulary.
Holy shit. So many improvements! And for the same price!
That’s Tesla for you.
@@TubaTonesThat's so the other way around of Tesla tho
Best video so far about the new Tesla Model 3
oh man, I want one of these so much
Looks alot better....especially the headlights

like matt said before, “the model 3(old model)looks like a fish)
It's unbelievable that you flew to Shanghai and made this incredible video, which is the first published video introducing the new Model 3 in the world ! Thanks for your work and hope you enjoy your trip in Shanghai.
The unveil of this new model was in Norway.
@@manuelteixeira2311 The car was mamufactured in Shanghai and was located in Shanghai. Look at the car's position shown on the screen. It's also possible that the car was shipped to Norway and kept disconnected from the internet so the location was still in Shanghai.
It's good Matt gets early access from leading car manufacturers.
Great review!!!
Nice one Mat! I like the new design vs. the old one! Good job TESLA!
Mat thanks for the great review!
I wish they put a blindspot monitor in the side mirrors… Can we hookup our gaming controller via centre console this time around? Great video btw!
This new refresh is only going to apply massive pressure to the competition. Range improvements, ventilated seats, noise improvements. Efficiency improvements making it cheaper to drive is just incredible. The LED lighting and the rear screen is a nice bell and whistle as well. I wonder if this is HW4 tech. I would think so.
Sadly the hardware is 3.5 for the first refreshed model 3s, sad sad sad. They said they want to give the H4 to the model S and X fully then Y then the 3 being the last one so definitely will have to wait a whilw before the 3 gets it but now it will run 3.5 rather than the previous 3.0
@@Hate---Love Too bad. Holding back on purpose it seems to me just to make the S and X more enticing. If they really wanted to push FSD like Elon said so, then they would give the new Model 3's HW 4.
@@Hate---LoveThere's no such thing as hwd3 tho. It's 3 or 4 right now. I believe this model 3 is hardware 4 since there's a camera very low down at the front... 360 camera view?
People won't buy this strangely driven car without stalks or sonic sensors which makes it very Inferior car....
Hope build quality improves. The ones I’ve seen that friends have bought are horrendous in panel gaps
Great looks sweet talks🎉
Looks good! Do the wireless chargers actually work yet?
Decent! Getting closer to what I’d expect the car to be 😮
what would meet your expectations?
@@winstoon personally electrically assisted frunk, heated steering wheel, black headliner, and massage seats. I mean for the price the model 3 is super nice but I would pay a little more of a premium just to have those missing features. I’m other words not much is personally missing!
I expect my car to have stalks 😢
@@AntonioDiaz Ah. Yeah those luxury features are probably more well suited for something like a Model S. For the plebian like me though, man, this car has everything.
@@pauld3327Yah this car has everything except stalks. Wtf
