Hey.. thanks for video. My son in law has a 2018 F-150 with 10 speed. He experienced a problem… couldn’t get over 50-60 mph
Pulled over… there was fluid all over the bottom of tranny.
Got towed to AAMCO .. left it there.
They are telling us they are not finding a problem.
We asked where the fluid came from… they said there is a sort of relief valve to expel excess fluid or pressure? Is this true?

Does the CDF drum bushing issue will happen no matter what?
My 21 F150 on 50K Kilometers is driving pretty smooth, it is very smooth when first couple miles before coming to normal operation temperature, and it feels like sometimes clunky after comes to operation temperature, and one obvious issue is when light foot on braking to stop, sometimes it has big cluck when down shit from 5 to 3 or 4 to 3. But if I use multi stepping on brake paddle, I can totally avoid that. Just like you need to know your truck and what to do in when, it is a bit annoying.
I am concerned about the drum bushing issue when I am out of warranty.
    Thanks you for your videos!

Thanks for watching! It isn't a guarantee it'll happen, but it is common enough to plan for eventually (worst case scenario). But with a new CDF, trash can and valve body gaskets, its a pretty solid reliable transmission! It'll just clunk once in a while

Same here man. My 2020 ranger does it too. I had to take matters into my own hands since my dealer kept telling me that it's normal for 3rd and 4th gear to lose power.. so I put Fords tune to change the mapping, changed the fluid to amsoil, I put a new aluminum more capacity tranny pan on , and I will say the 3rd to 4th gear power loss toned down a tremendous amount. The ONLY time I have an issue is like you, when it's at full operating temp. When before it was at cold start... It's weird.
@bigbencarsandcycles another TH-cam ford tech told me my power loss problem doesn't sound like the cdf drum , mine sounds like a solenoid sticking, does that sound true? Just wanted your take. Thanks sir

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

On a mustang, the CDF drums extremely rarely have issues. Its mainly a problem on the trucks. You'd still get firm shifts after a while, but nothing that'll strand you. The manual has it's share off issues, mainly with the clutch friction material falling off. Though, its a more simple design. The manual would likely be more reliable, especially if you don't race it all the time or supercharge it. If you get one with a twin disc clutch, those are expensive clutches.

I'm wanting to buy a 1/2 ton which is super-reliable long term and doesn't rust out. Yes, I'd like a Tundra, but the frames rust out, they're gas hogs and the old design with the V8 are selling for stupid money right now. Too many issues with the new Tundra to consider right now.
So I'm looking at F-150 with the NA 3.3, which is supposed to be bulletproof. Is the older six-speed transmission in these trucks reliable, and are the post-August 2022 10-speeds now a good bet reliability wise? Should I try to get an older 6-speed instead?

Yes a 3.3 with a 6 speed is a very, very reliable truck. I would buy one if I were in the market for a newer truck.

My 2019 f150 transmission randomly it felt like its in neutral for about 1 to 2 seconds when i start off on a slight downhill. Pulling out of my driveway or some elevated parking lots etc.. soon after it started doing it on a level road, 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th. I got on the highway and at about 70 mph noticed the digital gear indicator in the cluster go from 10 to 4 and back and forth to misc gears. It didnt actually downshift but it freaked me out and i took it straight to a shop. I was told at 70k it needs to be rebuilt or replaced 😢 I can't imagine buying another ford anything after this. 3500 for a low milage used or rebuilt or 5k for a new trans. Why ford doesn't recognize this and do the right thing by at least making a rebuild or replacement at an affordable price so they don't lose customer loyalty is crazy because there's a lot of people in the same situation. At least I can sell it for what I bought it for back in 19 to replace the funds I'm using to fix it. Dodge has some really nice trucks out and I'll probably jump in one of those once it's fixed and sold.

If I roll into a 3-5 shift (casual 30-40mph), mine will rev out the truck will the shift happens. I’d say like 1000rpm more over a second duration. Kind of like a flare but no slip, I actually build speed. Doesn’t happen if I’m in tow, sport, or manual. Ever see that, what do you think? Temps are always under 150 because I’m New England and do short drives often.

@anthonys3906 hi, that's most likely a sticking valve in the valve body. Almost all 10r80s will shift like that eventually. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's annoying you, or if you still have some warranty. A new valve body may have its own quirks. You could investigate aftermarket valve bodies

I just purchased a used 2018 ford f150 with ten speed from Carvana , the transmission acted just like you described.
I drove it for a day and then called Carvana to let the know they had me take it in to be checked. I took it to ford dealership and they said this was the issue. Now Carvana wants their inspector to go to the dealership and to see if that’s the right diagnosis.
So I’m waiting now to see if Carvana will pay for the repair..

I'm surprised you didn't include the computer programming "adaptive driver learning issue", many videos of this causing unnecessary breakage on transmissions with different drivers, when computer is reprogrammed to the factory preset (turning off adaptive learning) of what Ford's data said transmission should generally shift at, many issues of hard shifting were resolved! That is before damage had occurred.

@@BigBensCarsAndCycles I bought a 2021 Expedition 5 months ago with 47K miles, now it has 50K, and it occasionally jerks, but it does it much worse in speed control when going up and down grades on 2-lane roads at 55 to 60mph, it tries to backoff too much then re-accelerate and the computer in the transmission in my estimation doesn't handshake very well with cruise speed control. Is that a valid statement, and can you say how often the oil in transmission should be changed out? Thanks...
