I was feeling vicarious disappointment of the lack of cherries in that fruit cocktail - at least the dinner made up for it with that awesome looking/sounding Gusto Cacao bar and the chicken jello - that was a great looking addition to the soup along with those biscuits. The biscuits are a little bland on their own - so that really brings a little life to those.
Looking forward to seeing what you bring us next time, Gusto! Glad you were able to spend a little time with your family - noone will hold that against ya, that's for sure.

Hey steve, Since watching gusto and you make MRE videos, I'm on the hunt for 1980s through 2005 rations and why 2005 is because when Katrina hit the southern states, all I ever ate was MREs for about 6 to 10 months (because my family had bought a lot of them), and well 1980 had some good rations not too long ago I found some accessory packs from a late 80s (at least I think they were from the 80s, possibly 90s or 2000s) Well before I found the accessory packs, I got an MRE from 2000, it was a mistake for me to eat the jalapeño cheese spread, it was ungodly awful, at first it was decent then that rancid taste creeped up on me, So I chunked that in the trash, but other than that the rest of the items were decent, the beef enchiladas I believe the main course was. Hell you and gusto are pretty cool people to watch make MRE videos

Why do I feel so good watching somebody eat military rations? So peaceful and very interesting. Got to get some MRE's just to see what it's all about. The foreign rations look so much better then USA ones. Thanks Gusto for these videos and hours of entertainment and enlightening.
James Peters the international rations are a lot of fun to explore. That being said, US rations are tuned to be dependable, balanced, and stable. Maybe not always as interesting, but marvels of food science.
RC Gusto you and Steve1989 talk about food science. I never really understood that until now. Now if they could only find a way to keep chocolate from blooming that will be science! It is really neat to see the old rations you review and the evolution to today's rations. It is science! Thanks.

Ans if anyone has a issue with you not posting as much they are not a true fan, they should understand and support you and the choices you make. I hope you and hour daughter(s) enjoyed the trips you went on!
Robin Kniss thanks for that. I'm not worried about it at all. I'd be making videos for 10 subs or 1M. This is just an exploration for me. I'm glad to be able to share it. We had a blast on our summer activities. Now that the kids are back in school, I can make more vids!
Plus, being a doctor, the need for a vacation is undoubtedly much more than for, say, a shoe salesman. or any other job. Lawyers don't count because I'm pretty sure we're talking specifically about people here. ;-)

Welcome back !! Sorry about your computer issues. Spend time with family while you can! Very interesting ration. All meals would be substantial and filling. Like yourself, I would have thought the tortellini would have more flavor? Not even just 1 cherry? At least ours, 9 times out of 10, at least has one, LOL !!!! Usually only 1, agreed. Most of the crackers did have damage, but, we can still eat them. The chicken Jello, was harder to get out of it's can, than A can of spam, Wow ! Thought Spam was A pain in the, well, where A lot of pains occur these days, LOL. Soup looked great. Glad the chicken fared well with you. I had my doubts, just from the looks. I should have learned by now, not to have Pre conceived notions. I am constantly fooled. Great review, Peace, John, AKA Magnum. Glad to see you return friend !!

Thanks for this rare ration ! I've just looked up my Italian ration review - the items are simlilar, but... in the regular ration there are more items.
The sausages look not appetizing at all, but the chicken jelly - yummy !

Delicious I’d take the tin of torts and the wee sausages and put them both in a pot and mix together, by themselves those wee sausage lads look horrific lol 😅
if you like chicken jelly you should definitely try boar jelly!!! here in spain they make it with rosemary and a couple more herbs, its also denser so it can be sliced and eaten like ham or a cold meat...

gusto a tip for drinks, even if your having the stuck cold or at room temp at 1 or 2 tablespoons of hot water first mix with the drink mix than add the cold or room temp water you want, will help with desolving the mixed better
I'll bet had you know the frankfurters would have been like veanna sausages you would have eaten them cold. That's my taste anyway to not eat those warm I don't think....I've never tried.

i've never understood why all the sausages in rations are so soft and never have any type of casing or skin... i guess its probably because of preservation issues... but in my opinion, nothing says low quality meat like one of those sausages...

Lol. Now you know you have an energy bar with your name in it over in Italy. The food all looks good but I'm surprised not to see any kind of drinks other than tea and coffee. It seems as if the 2nd Brigade was split between international peacekeeping duties and home country riot control and humanitarian mission after disasters in Italy. I imagine that this ration was meant for mechanized troops operating primarily within the borders of Italy. Maybe the assumption was they could stop off at a convenience store or gas station and get Cokes and whatever other cold drinks they needed.
Sar Jim "Gusto" means "flavour". He will found plenty of "Gusto"s on italian labels. 😎😀

Hey RC, what type of pocket knife is that? It cuts really nicely and I've been looking for a good pocket knife to keep on me! Also, I agree with @Sar Jim My nieces are growing fast. My one nieces started kindergarten, it feel like yesterday she was born. And my other niece who is secretly one of my four favorites, she only has a year left until middle school... I swear she was just a toddler... You focus on those babies. We are not your first priority. Your kids job, and wife are. Anyone who thinks otherwise definitely aren't true fans. Great video btw!

Only "Folgore" (Italian Parà), "Alpini" (snow troops), "Marina Militare" (Navy) and "Aereonautica Militare" (Aeronautic Force) have MRE when the target's position is outside of Italy.
At the moment Carabinieri are Armed Forces but they're used only for civilian use.

The trick for jelly meat is to make a hole in the bottom of the can and blow into it.
You have to poke a hole in the bottom of the can to get to slide out

Actually is a bit different from normal police, They have different duties.
Idk why but all the canned food always make me feel like it is a cheap ass ration. I wonder which are actually cheaper though, the cans or the packaging like the US MRE's? I'm guessing cans.
Rdeez depends. Lots of canned military rations tend to be Civilian Off The Shelf stuff. You can drive the price of pouches quite a bit by volume production and using the same pouch for multiple different meals
