    CASE DETAILS
Paul's family last had contact with him on November 12th, 1990.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary at that time. The following day on November 13th one of his nephews noticed Paul's car parked on U.S. Route 151 near the 'Welcome to Wisconsin' sign just a mile from the Dubuque-Wisconsin Bridge.
This family member didn't report seeing Paul at the time and didn't stop to check if he was in any trouble.
Later that day the same family member reported the car wasn't parked there anymore.
Paul never made it to Thanksgiving Dinner on November 26th and his family soon realized he had failed to turn up to a job at a Mail Order Warehouse in Monroe, Wisconsin.
They traveled to his home at 2105 Washington Street and found no sign of Paul and his car was gone, but he had left behind his wallet, watch, and even his shoes.
Family members then reported Paul missing to the Dubuque Police Department.
    INVESTIGATION
Police found the case a particularly difficult one to investigate.
Paul hadn't had a social life outside of his family.
He hadn't been in trouble with the law and wasn't known to abuse alcohol or drugs.
Paul also hadn't been known to be depressed or suicidal and didn't usually travel anywhere but to see his family and to work.
This made it difficult to ascertain what he could have been doing when he disappeared or even when he disappeared.
Initially, police believed that whatever had happened to Paul occurred on or around November 13th when his vehicle, a maroon-colored 2-door 1981 Mercury Zephyr with license plate NBL923 went missing.
The problem with this assertion was that a witness later came forward to say they saw Paul driving that car near his home on November 17th, suggesting everything was still normal at that time.
Police could never find any evidence that Paul had been involved in organized crime, drugs, or any other illegal activity that might explain his sudden disappearance.
Other than a search of the rivers and Woodlands near where Paul lived and where his car was seen parked on November 13th, police had little indication of where else to look for the 53-year-old.
Our search did not uncover any evidence of Paul or his vehicle in the area.
Hug the ones you love for you never know when it might be the last time you see them.

You don’t always find the missing but you always find answers. Knowing an area has been searched and cleared is important and will help direct searches in the future.

Except you can’t rely on an “area being searched” to rule the area out. How many of these videos do they end up locating the car/body in an area “searched and cleared” by law enforcement and or rescue squads. In my opinion nothing is cleared until a body/car is found.

& with this one, like they said at the end, with 3-4 major floods in the past few years, it IS possible that it's there, it's just buried. But if it was there & above ground, they absolutely would have found it.
That said, they bring the families a sense of... importance & concern (for lack of better terms) in cases which they most likely feel them & their loved ones have been forgotten.. & though they might not find them all, I'm sure this alone means so much to the families & loved ones. ❤️

As a person who has lost family in a way, I never want to hear "answers" I just want "an answer" -- however I am a male. My uncle went missing years ago (1997) and we knew he committed the self-delete. He had terminal cancer that was choking him in his neck. He didn't take his car, and we believed that he went to where coyotes were rampant. It was only recently that my father had an answer and closure -- as well as my aunt. He hiked over... Well, don't mind the distance. His lower jaw was the only thing that was found. It matched dental records. My father cried for days, as he was his little brother and was entirely inconsolable. There was a gun missing in his safe and some ammo. We already knew... The S word. We just needed an answer if he truly went through with it.

Jared, Sam, and the AWP team, I came across your videos last year as I was looking for people that do what you do. It has been my dream to use my interest in underwater ROV's, my experience as firefighter, and my experience as a diver , to start my own service to offer local first responder agencies and law enforcement a service somewhat like what you guys do. I do not have the experience in rigging like you guys do, but you guys have inspired me to at least help to locate and to collect, and then pass it on to the local agency. Until I can get my funding in order to purchase the necessary equipment, I will do my best to donate and purchase products to help support what your team does. When it come time to purchase a boat or boats, I will be coming to AWP for the ones you guys rep. If you are ever in the Indianapolis area, I would be honored to visit with your team and possibly contribute to your expenses. At least buy you guys dinner, etc.. Thanks again for what you do.

If Paul went into the river, he would have moved or been covered by the flood of '93. It was a true geologic event, with raging water from river bluff to river bluff. That happens extremely rarely since the end of the Wisconsinin Ice Age. You are most kind to search for the missing. You are true heroes!

Not just the flood of 93, but the ones in the late 90's/early 00's as well! That whole stretch from Galena to LaCrosse on both sides of the river and the tributaries is ripe for a vehicle to go off the road and never be seen again! @@adriennem9832 I think they were referencing what family members have told Jared. It was Jared that has said...he's told answers the family members have now. Either found or not found, they are home or at least where they are not. I've lost a sister by the hands of another and I want answers. I what to know why. Closure...It's not a bad word. I think it's just the words that people feel most comforted by. A sudden loss is horrific shock and pain. Not knowing the why's leaves the room open for then finding the answers sought. Yes they have closure of where their loved one is when found. But the mourning of the real loss only begins then. After a few had told JARED and crews they now have some questioned answered their closure is still in process. The clock starts over at that time. I kind of consider the difference of word usage is connected to if someone has lost a loved one. I also associate it personally as that spot in your heart that the loved one filled doesn't ever close. My dad died after an illness May 23, 1987. My sister died suddenly July 15, 1987. I've experienced both. With my dad and my mom I have closure. With my sister I still and always will question her death. Thank you for supporting AWP and all the divers that have been part of this amazing journey. But yes I have to agree, we can't cancel anything more. So patience and tolerance is needed now more than ever. The 19 souls AWP have recovered since 2019 is nothing short of amazing in my humble opinion. Thank you for allowing me to tag to your comment and explain, at least, my story on how I understand both. Take care ❤

Even if you don't find anything the day you search, you make the family of the missing loved ones feel cared for. That means so much more than you know. To know someone cares that your loved one is missing and cared to join in to help find them, that alone is so powerful. Its the feeling like no one cares that is so hard in their fight to find them. If you find nothing, at least you've shown the family you care. It also shows them where their family member is not at and they can check that spot off their list. Much love to all who search. Closure is a part of an experience. It will never be " closed" it should not be. What Adventures w/ Purpose has done is pinpoint a specific area, location, time in that persons life and the families lives too. The one case that sticks in my mind is the young pregnant mom with her younger child going to her sons birthday party. She spoke to family members about leaving for the party with her sons birthday bicycle in the trunk. She never showed up. Years and years later, our heroic AWP crew finds her car, she and daughter are inside the vehicle, the bike is still in the trunk. I cry right now thinking of the pain that family went through, just never the tiniest clue, hint of an answer. AWP gave decades of Closure to them. What a (sad, but) magnificent ending to the unanswered questions. Thank you again AWP your work is a blessing and CLOSURE to many. Search for that "find" it will change your life and inspire it too. Thanks

Great informative video👍👍 we deeply appreciate the effort you go to bringing closure to families❤️ I've been returning lost treasures to owners for over a decade now and for years I've been wanting to clean up the cars out of our rivers. for over a year Dan and I have been saving funds and gaining knowledge inspired by you to successfully remove dumped, stolen and the unfortunate missing persons cold cases. I'm trying to prepare myself for these cold cases mentally. Dan and I have successfully removed our first truck stolen 15 years ago and my guess it was dumped the day it was stolen as the truck had seriously deteriorated.
THANKS FOR THE LIFT BAGS👍 our video is dedicated to the inspiration of AWP I'll have it up for you this Saturday. Theres over 50 cars with over 700 missing persons in Australia its a possibility we could find someone in one of the cars, this is what I'm trying to prepare myself for.

A magnet that strong will have a magnetic attraction. You may not get a solid grab right away but there would be an attraction. My thoughts is that was a composite or aluminum paddle boat as aluminum is non-ferrous

    • @ericl2969
      @ericl2969 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

From looking at the sonar graph, there wasn't much or even any sediment over at least some of the top of that sunken object, and the lack of the magnet sticking is partly why they decided it was an up-turned boat and not a car. And contrary to what these guys imply, sediment on the bottom of a river does not simply get thicker and thicker as time goes by. Without delving into any details of river geology here, the obvious proof of that is that rivers do not get shallower and shallower over time. Sedimentation occurs in some places and erosion occurs in others, but the nature of the river as a whole remains the same even as the specific locations of deep and shallow areas are in constant flux. On a controlled river like the Mississippi, this process of constant change is greatly inhibited by wing dams and channel dredging, which help to prevent the area of main flow from "wandering" over time. In any case, even where sediment is deposited, there will come a time, often quite soon, when the sediment no longer keeps getting thicker. If nothing else, periodic floods will remove some sediment deposited during times of slack water. One other point is that a solid object resting on the river bottom in any decent current will have a scour hole develop around it. This hole can fill up quickly if the current slows down, and this might explain why some of the cars they have found were partly buried, since these guys simply would not be diving at such locations during times of stronger flow.
