  • Was this a Jailhouse Confession? Union Mob Hit? Are we dealing with a Missing Persons Cold Case and if so... Who is it and what happened?
In this episode of Adventures With Purpose, it all started late one night when Jared receives a phone call with a story about a missing person in Mexico Missouri believed to be 230' underwater in a car.

Being in a small town, authorities were quickly notified that of our presence in town. While we like to fly under the radar, it was quite difficult when they had learned of our investigation of a potential homicide within their county.
Tracking down landowners to keep us from trespassing and being tossed in jail ourselves, the community quickly came together to help open gates and access to any properties in need of searching.
While we didn't find what we were looking for on this one... I'm not yet ruling it out and have plans to return to Mexico Missouri to investigate this one further.
Foul play has not been ruled out.
Maybe we didn't look far enough.
Is there really a person underwater in a car and this one remains unsolved.

I did some research into missing persons in Missouri and i’ve found someone with the name of Paul D Cappo. He is a WM and went missing in July 10th 1980, when he was 30 years old. He is missing out of Kansas city Missouri but it states he may have ties to organized crime. On the day that he went missing he told his wife he was going to meet with some “pretty bad people” and he hasn’t been seen since then. He drove a dark blue Plymouth 4 door with a Kansas license plate. Maybe you guys should call the CI and see if he can give you a name or the car description and if he can’t then maybe bring up this case.

Note to all those who are angry or disgusted with Jerrod for giving his informant's name and number to the sheriff. There is a difference between keeping a name and number from viewers and the general public and witholding evidence to a crime. You have forgotten the mission of Adventures With a Purpose: Help to give closure to families of missing loved ones. To do that, Jerrod and his team need the cooperation of the local law enforcement agencies. As I see it, withholding information about a crime is synonymous with Aiding and Abetting that crime. If Jerrod was ever arrested for obstruction of a police investigation to a crime( even if the crime was just a rumor), Adventures With a Purpose would meet more obstruction and hassles
instead of the level of law enforcement cooperation and support of its mission it now enjoys. Jerrod is building a very positive reputation with both us AND law enforcement so that Adventures With a Purpose can fulfill its mission to more grieving families. Even the tipster's purpose for calling Jerrod was to give closure to some unknown grieving family.

@Adventures with Purpose: Jared, to answer Sam's question - Yes and No that rust can lose magnetism. Depends on the amount of degradation of the metal. I was trained in the US Army for recorder theory so rust was actually used in magnetic tape (reel to reel, 8 tracks, cassettes, etc) as well as early hard drives to record the signals by aligning the particles of rust with a specific charge. Tape/Drives used glue, rust, and the medium (tape/platter) to provide the means of recording on. If you ever want to know more, it's easy to Google but not all that exciting unless you geek out on older technology.

Man, I can’t even explain how cool this is! I live 15mins away from where this was shot! My dad worked at this brick plant back in the early 2000’s and now I work at a plant in Vandalia. It’s crazy to say but honestly not all of this story is untrue I believe. My great grandpa who lived in auxvasse just up the road always talked about how the mafia was big here back in the late 60’s thru early 80’s and that they did do some bad things. Before he passed last year, he called my great grandmother from the nursing home saying that she needed to come pick him up because the mafia was going to try and kill him. Now the doctor believed the medication he was taking might make him a little bit loopy but he said the scary thing is that I don’t believe he’s pulling this out of thin air, I think he’s remembering things from his past and reliving it and it makes you wonder what the old man has seen!

To be fair, the guy who called Jared may have "heard" something from others and thought it to be true - and may have only been familiar with the property because he lived in the area and may have hung out there when younger. I think some of the comments from everyone in this video kind of explains why people don't want to get involved or pass along information; because our culture is that those people "have to be guilty" because they knew too much. The motto "innocent until proven guilty" is just an old saying and does not ring true - and people know that.....especially in the era of social media.
Keep doing the great job that you guys do, but please be careful to not get caught up in the sentiment of "he's guilty if he knows something". Keep yourselves neutral and approachable. ✌

@@kenabi that would be the "some cases" i mentioned. Sure, you *could* tell the officers asking you for information that you're not interested in speaking or sharing your source. Its unlikely that something as small as this would lead to much of an investigation, (especially considering the outcome) but we're dealing with a relatively small town which is going to be more involved in homicides and crimes in general. Had a body or car been recovered law enforcement is likely to shake down whoever they can in order to get information that can lead to an arrest.
Another thing is when you're doing stuff like Jared is, the last thing you want to do is come across as unhelpful or sketchy. To begin with, rolling into a town where no one has ever heard of you with cameras and professional shit trying to dive on private property is going to look suspicious. To say you're investigating a cold case homicide off of a tip and then refusing to work with law enforcement when they start asking questions will get you just about nowhere. Its all about being polite and professional, and in the team's mind they were going to find something. Had they pulled a car and uncovered evidence while declining to provide information on how they knew where to look, it starts to look sketchy, at best. At that point in time police couldn't legally force him to give up a name. But Jared believed they were going to find something and had he been anything but honest with police they would have made it very difficult to dive on the property.

Its possible to throw away a number and erase call history and feel you lost it but if a cop asks technically u can go online and re retreive call history for a specific date....

@@jbrobertson6052 With it being a murder case, they could get a warrant to get his cell records and he could get in more trouble once they see that he had no restricted calls. Especially since they will run the numbers near the time he said he got the call.

I am a commercial diver as well for many years now. That structure is a water inlet structure for irrigation systems. I've worked on these many times. The older styles used to be poured right on the ground without that much reinforcement so over time they undermine and fall off away from the banks. Or it was decommissioned and left there. When the water has risen over the years it ends up deeper than it originally was.

I have been there, in Mexico, Missouri! I was a child, with my family, on a road trip from Washington state to Maine, primarily to visit my paternal grandparents... I only remember an interesting little town, with an unusual name... that my classmates at school didn't quite believe. I'd never been called liar before!
It's sad but true that tragedy can strike anywhere, even in peaceful places... I feel so bad for the mother, and sad that you couldn't find the young lady this time, after everyone's hard work. Praying for all those involved... 💔🙏
