Q: My computer is overheating and wont turn on. Will this help?
A: So to troubleshoot a computer that wont turn on, I would usually say to start with this video. However, an overheating computer can damage multiple components, make multiple components act in weird ways, and therefor makes it very hard to troubleshoot which components are the cause of the computer not turning on. You should try to address the overheating first. You can see that process here; • Video
Q: Why does this power build-up issue happen? How can I prevent it?
A: Make sure your using your computer plugged into a surge protector and not directly into the wall. Also, make sure to not use your computer around large sources of static like in bed, on pillows, etc. Repair tech wear anti-static bracelets when working on computer or put the on anti-static pads. Even though the computer case means you dont have to go that far, try not to use the computer around heavy static sources.

Thank you so much! My Lenovo yoga 7i died and their customer service was an absolute nightmare to deal with. Your advice of removing the battery and letting the static pass worked to perfection! You've saved me so much stress.
If anyone else has a similar problem, you'll need a torx T5 screwdriver to open the cover and a Phillips PH0 screwdriver to remove the battery. I got mine as a set on amazon for $20. I hope this helps :)
I have Y520 and it didn't require any special screwdrivers FYI to those out there.
This is the worst laptop ever. The sound went out mic went out the camera went out. Had it less than 6 months

So, my Lonovo will turn on, i see a dim screen then it turns off and repeats. I'm sure the issue is the static problem. The problem is i cant open the back of this laptop ( because of the warranty ) and cant find a way to repair it without having to take it apart. You seem like you could potentially know a way to fix this, if you do please tell me.

I kept the power button pressed for like a minute or so and eventually my laptop was functioning properly. Hope this helps. 😀

Dont use God's name in vain
This is the third time this has happened to our Lenovo Ideapad. Both previous times the failure to start was due to a discharged battery. This is the first time I had to actually unplug the internal battery. Your method worked. Turns out the battery was fully charged, so maybe it was static. Thank you.

Thank you SO much. I didn’t open up the computer and remove the battery but holding the power button seemed to do the trick. I don’t know what I would’ve done without this video, my warranty has expired so I would have had to pay for repairs.
For those of you who want to fix it now/don’t want to spend money but the battery is internal, try just holding down the power button for a few minutes.
Edit: turn up your brightness too

My battery is an internal and I can't easily remove, but I followed your instructions to hold the power button for a minute with the battery is still in. It turned on anyway after doing this.

If you dont have a charger... then you cant charge your laptop. Sorry
you can always buy a new charger if they're still in stock!. just order one from amazon, from the creators of lenovo, and try not to buy bootleg versions of a charger, I hope this helped

Outstanding instructorial! However, when I retrieve my dead HP to try this (it had been sitting OFF uncharged for about 2 months) it magically turned on! Do you think a laptio will de-static by just sitting?

Hi. Firstly, thanks for your great instructional videos. They are really well made and easy to understand. Makes a nice change :-) That said, am still having an issue with a Lenovo Ideapad S145. When it is turned on, the power light comes on, but there doesn't appear to be any other activity. It doesn't feel or sound like anything is happening within the computer and the screen stays black. The power stays on, but nothing at all is happening. I have removed and reinserted the RAM but this has not done anything. Any ideas or does it need to go to a repair place? TIA

My laptop is no longer working because my brother connected a power bank to a Typc c port while the laptop was charging ⚡🔌Then it turned off and did not work and does not charge either.
