    FAQ's:
    Q: The computer displays to the external monitor fine but not to the computer screen.
    A: If your computer displays to an external monitor but will not display to its own LCD, then your most likely looking at an LCD or LCD Cable issue. 'Reseat' the cable by unplugging it from the motherboard and the LCD. Then plug it back in to insure a proper connection. If that does not help, then replace the cable. If that does not help, replace the LCD.
    Q: I tried all these tests but nothing helped and the computer wont even display to an external monitor.
    A: If you have tried all these tests and have not been able to identify the issue, and the computer would not display to an external monitor, then your most likely looking at a motherboard issue. It should be replaced. Let me know if you would like any assistance with that process :)

      Thanks, funny you should say that...! It worked fine all afternoon, then did a 'computer needs to do updates' message, said 'please do not switch off while doing updates' then shortly afterwards went blank again. Have done the usual (turned on and off, etc), no joy. Whirring, little light on, but screen just like before we replaced the ram stick... Has it got a fault that 'blows' ram sticks? Any ideas? Thanks!

    I have an unusual situation. In addition to not working (but obviously being on), whenever I plug an external monitor in, the laptop screen DOES work, but for less than a second before going back to black. If I unplug the monitor, it once again flashes and reverts to darkness.

I put the original one back in and I still get the flickering screen (the original 4GB was working perfectly fine before. Just wanted to upgrade with 2 8GB RAM sticks). Sometimes computers have issues and just need to be refreshed. Not a huge deal unless it happens again. Hi there, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon. When I use the HDMI cable to an Acer monitor, the laptop keyboard and screen stop working. External monitor and external keyboard is the only way to use the laptop. I've had the mother board replaced twice and LCD screen replaced. It worked for a bit, then stopped. When i shut down and restart, the lights turn on the keyboard, the fan starts, i see a very faint "lenovo" startup image, but then i have to be plugged into external monitor in order to log in, etc. It's almost as if the HDMI or anything in displayport is confusing or frying the motherboard. Any ideas?

    2 tips: 1. Replace "Lenovo" in your title with "Toshiba", since you're focussing on a Toshiba.. ;) 2. When plugging in your laptop to another screen, hit Windows key +P and then use the cursor down keys to switch to 'duplicate screen', 'extend', etc.. to see if you can get the other screen to come up. Thanks for the vid tho.. I'm hoping to check some things out on a Lenovo laptop within the next few days.

    Hello mate, I have a Lenovo y510p Laptop that's experiencing this problem. I actually tried 2 of your steps earlier this week, and just tried the 3rd step (using with external monitor / HDTV via HDMI cable), and no matter what step, the black screen still shows. The motherboard already got replaced from a local repair shop, so I don't think that or the RAM is the problem. I'm guessing it's either the LCD or LCD cable, because when I pressed Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B, earlier it did bring up the whole screen, as if it's been working all along, but now it's reverted back to the black screen. Any ideas on what I should do?
    Edit: Oh, forgot to mention, but the backlit keyboard no longer turns on as well (used to before motherboard was replaced)

    Wow I really appreciate how thorough you are in explaining things. I have this one question, my HP laptop stopped working a few years ago after we lost power one day and it was restored without a surge protector. I assumed it was junk and bought a new one.. recently I have a need for a second computer and I looked further into the old one. I first learned the LED codes of various lights.. With that info I learned the charger was bad, my new hp uses the same specification charger so I used that. Then the laptop would turn on, but no screen... so the caps lock LED blinks twice and I've read this is a BIOS issue.. Question being, do I need to reinstall the BIOS? Or could it be the battery, C Mos? OR whatever you called the battery for the BIOS lol Any help would be greatly appreciated

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a BIOS issue, I would first try a simple manual reset as seen here; th-cam.com/video/76I2Ec9K7lw/w-d-xo.html
      If that fails to help, and the computer has been off for a while, its possible the CMOS battery is dead. I would then try replacing it. They are pretty cheap

    Hey so I have this problem where when I start the laptop it just lights up but it doesn't show anything, not even the logo and the loading screen. If I connect an HDMI cable to another monitor it shows only on the second display. So I'm not quite sure about the origin of the problem and if the video is about that.

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If your computer displays to an external monitor but will not display to its own LCD, then your most likely looking at an LCD or LCD Cable issue. 'Reseat' the cable by unplugging it from the motherboard and the LCD. Then plug it back in to insure a proper connection. If that does not help, then replace the cable. If that does not help, replace the LCD.

    Hi there, great vid. I have a lenovo legion y740. The other day I was using it like normal and the screen went black out of nowhere. By looking very closely I can see that the screen isnt actually completely black, but it is so dim you pretty much cant see or do anything. However it is still functioning and I can plug it into a monitor and use it like normal. It's less than a year old and still under warranty, so I am hesitant to start taking it apart myself. If it is working with an external monitor, should I still check the RAM? Or is that useless given the fact it is working with an external monitor? What do you suggest?

    • @PC_Monkey

    Will you do all the same troubleshot if when the laptop is connected to a monitor, the system works properly. I am asking because I saw a Lenovo laptop where the screen is very dark, it can be hardly seen, I have to put a flashlight in front of the screen to see that there is actually something in the screen. My first instinct was to connect it to a external monitor, and when I did the image in the monitor looks perfect no issues. At least to me this indicates that the problem is in the screen. Am I missing anything?

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct :) Nice job !! Yes, if the external monitor works fine, then the issue is most likely your LCD or LCD Cable. Try replacing the cable first as its cheaper.

    But the screen was turning on after half an hour but no logo anything. Just black screen. Can it be the display or display wire because it's loading in another screen and HDD fan Ram all okay...I thought it's may be CMOS battery.

    CMOS batteries can be tested using a mulimeter set on DC voltage. Generally, the batteries should test at a little above 3 volts DC. They will still work a little below 3 volts, but I replace them if they are below that threshold.

      1. Are there any signs of life at all when you try to turn it on? Lights? Fan, Motherboard, or Hard Drive sounds? Anything seen on the screen?
      2. For a computer that does not turn on, try this video first; th-cam.com/video/HHwzA37r4e8/w-d-xo.html. Let me know how that goes :)

    I have a Lenovo flex 14api, screen went SUPER DARK to where I know something is ther but not at all visible or useable. I've updated drivers, did factory reset, pushed all the sequences of buttons. When I connect to external screen, computer works great, even laptop touchscreen actions visible on external screen. Any clue what's the fix?

      If all the update and reset fixes didnt help, your most likely looking at an issue with your LCD or LCD Cable. Try 'reseating' the cable at both ends. If that does not help, then replace the cable and the LCD one at a time till you find the one with the issue :)
