Stripology ruler a godsend for this applications. Thanks for your clear teaching/demonstration. I frequently intraseam snip to get seam allowances to conform. (I only press seams open under duress). Not many people demonstrate that, and I hope that you win some converts to that effective technique.

I found a used desk from an office and my husband cut a hole in it the size of my machine. He hung “L” hooks in opening and put a board on it for my machine to set on. I love the bigness of the top and the drawers on the size. Didn’t cost as much as a sewing machine table.
Thank you. I am about to do a pizza box quilt challenge where we have to do two blocks a month for others and there is a lady I don't like so I want something easy. Ha ha ha I think the rail fence variations will be perfect.
I have always wanted to make a "scrappy" Checkerboard quilt. The concept of using small leftover multi-colored scraps to make a quilt, sounds & looks very primitive! 😍
I usually put a clip on the end after I finish sewing so if I am interrupted I will remember which end I finished on. I remove it before starting at the other end and repeat.

Nice video! My favorite part about using jelly rolls,.though, is the scrap quilts the leftovers make, so I can look at it and see all the quilts I made.
I found a way to get my “checker board blocks” to easily match. Use the Pellon gridded fusible. You just lay your blocks on each square and turn the panel over and sew 1/4 inch seams on the horizontal and the clip your corners and sew on the vertical. Voila all corners match perfectly! Good luck to newbies as I am one too!

I like the Trip Around The World Quilt. Its the 1st time I've seen it. Scrappy version would be my choice. My 2nd favorite is Checkerboard and Solid square.
@TrueBlueQuilts definitely monochromatic the is just something about monochromatic colors schemes that I'm drawn too. I'm even a Sumi-e artist by trade berate they just calm me. Ohhh but could do a black white and grays but quilt with red thread.

What a great idea. I'm not really a "quilter", but have made a few baby quilts for the grandkids and now great grandbabies. Do you always use 5 strips of fabric to do a trip around the world?
You can do it! The checkerboard portion is obviously made with strip sets. Then you add star points with either flying geese or half square triangles. A bit of quilt math depending on what size you want your quilt to be then you are ready to sew 👍
I made a Christmas quilt with this method. The rail fence method did not turn out the way I planned. I had swastika pattern! I had to change it all up!!
Jburd,I too am a self taught and learning on my own to sew quilts together. There so..much to learn, and sewing classes of quilting can be pricy to take up.
I saw someone who sewed or tacked the intersections first. She then looked at them to see if they were ok. It's much easier to undo a few tacks rather than a whole seam. I'm currently sewing blocks together and have been tacking them first. I've had to unpick a couple that I got wrong, but it's so easy to sew piece the larger blocks now.

I love my EQ8 design software… it comes with a library of blocks so you can quickly create a layout and play with different colors!

I prewash also. I buy the fabric then make strips after prewash. I've tried laundry bags, but didn't have much success.

No, you can use any number. 5 strips make 10” blocks, and 6 strips will make 12” finished blocks. Have fun! 💙🎉💙
