Fusible bias tape 😮 that is so cool!! I like that you kept your mistake in the video. We all make mistakes or we change our mind on something. I enjoy your energy as well. This is a beautiful and fun quilt idea. Thank you ❤
Thank you! I like to show the mistakes too, I remember how intimidated I felt when I was starting out, watching these perfect flawless videos of these awesome quilters that made me think I'd never be able to do it.I hope I can help someone realise that perfect yt videos are just a matter of practice and good editing and everyone makes mistakes and that's kind of fun too! 😁
Hi Sandy 👋 ☺️!! I have a king-size bed. I used "jewel tones" fat quarters batiks. I used the stack and slash method. After the 1st slice, rotate your top fabric to the bottom. Then sew a 7/8 of an inch black strip to each layer. Then, another slice somewhere else in the block. This time, rotate the next 2 layers to the bottom, etc. Sew your black strip to each layer. This method grows your block. I continued until the desired size. I used an 18-inch template for the desired square. In the end, it looked authentic. Love your videos. Thank you for your enthusiasm. 😊 ❤
I have a tip: I learned to make something very similar to this back in the 90's. The black bias was added to each block before sewing the blocks together.
@@seweasybysandy It would only help with the parts that go into the seams when sewing the finished blocks together. However, you could do it at the same time you sew each set together. In other words, sew 2 pieces together, add the strip, repeat. It's been a long time since I learned this method. Granted it wasn't while doing a crazy block. But I think it's still doable as quick piecing. If that doesn't make sense I'll try to explain in more detail. (Old lady here.)
Forgot, had another tip. After making your 2 cuts, slightly pull the piles apart from each other. From one stack, move 1 fabric at the top to the bottom; from a 2nd stack, move 2 fabrics, and from the 3rd stack, move 3 fabrics under OR the bottom layer to the top. Then sew. You will have perfectly mixed blocks.
I love it!!! I was trying to think about how to quilt it and came up with an idea. If I wait to sew the bias tape down until after sandwiching, it would be quilted at the same time.
Beautiful fabrics 👍. I do real stained glass as a hobby besides being a quilter. I have never made a stained glass quilt though. It turned out beautiful Sandy!
I love this! Thanks for showing the mistake… makes me feel better knowing I’m not the only one lol! Your enthusiasm and effervescence makes your tutorials a joy to watch! 🌸
Beautiful- love Kaffe fabrics too! You can use a double needle to sew the bias tape down too- it’s not hard, just another skill to add to your sewing knowledge! Thank you for sharing!
I planned on making a stained glass quilt for my guild’s quilt show challenge. I may just have to use this technique and as others have suggested, quilt it by sewing down the tape after it’s sandwiched. I had literally just showed my husband the design I was planning on using yesterday! Then pooph! Your video shows up in my feed! 😂
Wow! Turned out really pretty! Thank you for using fusible bias tape. Great idea! Also you mentioned using a twin needle to sew down bias tape. I never thought of that! Thank you, Sandy! Marion
Gorgeous 😍 I bet that fusible binding is useful for lots of things. I’m a pre cut convert now, after thinking I would curate my own colours and it went hideously wrong. Layer cakes all the way!
I love your choice of fabric. Kaffe Fassett is one of my favourite designers. Your stained glass quilt looks stunning. Another great idea. A pre-cut snob 🤣. I love pre-cuts. There aren't many fabric shops near me and to order a jelly roll, layer cake etc online is so convenient and I know all the fabrics will go together. That's more than I can say if I have to choose fabrics! See you next video.
Thank you! Yeah, I have trouble getting jelly rolls as well, luckily an awesome friend of mine went to the US and was generous enough to bring back an Amazon order
I love everything about this. The colors the idea the mistake and your humor. And it’s easy enough that even I could make. Sometime my machine and I don’t get along. Maybe she’ll let me do this. Thank you for the video.
Oh Sandy this is absolutely beautiful. I too have been scared to try a stained glass quilt, but you have made it easy. Thank you. Can't wait to try one. ❤
The colours and prints are amazing. Absolutely gorgeous. And no you can not retire, you'll be missed too much lol love the stain glass quilt. I made my version of a stain glass quilt using only strips/HTS. Looks nice but not as gorgeous or effective as yours 💞
Sandy this is gorgeous as always! One of my favorite parts of the week is sitting down with hot tea and your new video; they’re long enough to feel like a break but not long enough to loose steam and lose myself to the phone monster 😈
That is a gorgeous quilt, but I believe I would have applied the black bias tape differently. But wow, what a beauty. Great job ! It's beautiful, I love it ! Also, I used to be a precut snob, too ! Not anymore ! 😀
So beautiful and I have packets of precut quilt squares that I pick up at thrift shops. No plan for them just can’t resist! Now I have a project ☺️ how many squares would you recommend for full or Queen size?
Thank you, I'm so glad it has inspired you. So if each charm pack has 40 5inch squares and you want to make. 90 by 110 inches or so quilt, I would say maybe 8 packs depending on how wide your frame will be.
@elena3831 oh, right! You either sew on both sides to catch the lateral pieces of binding properly or you'll have to make those pieces large enough to be caught by one single seam in the middle. Because mine were smaller, I had to sew on both sides yes.
I like precuts also. With the price of quilting fabric as high as it is now, (way overpriced, if you ask me) a precut is a great way to get a semi-good sample of the fabric line. I have noticed over time though; the layer cakes are really starting to skimp on the impact fabric and you're always going to get more cuts of the more basic fabric. They do that hoping you will buy yardage of the impact fabric.
Great point! I've noticed that as well! You'd think with how much they cost you'd get the best patterns... And it's even more expensive where I live because it's imported!
Beautiful, but…I would have added the black at each 4piece square then sewn in strips and added black at each joining seam and, lastly, sew strips together and black to finish. Add as you go, in other words. Your fabric choices is awesome!
Old technique. Have heard of this before. Made one 20 years ago when it was popular. Do some research before telling thousands of quilters that they have never heard of this technique before.
I may as well retire after making this quilt because there's no way I can make anything more stunning than this! Have you ever tried it?
Yes. I used batiks and cut the 10” squares into 4 pieces. I love it. It really is so pretty!
It is beautiful
Why didn't you just load black in your sewing machine and satin-stitch it? (If you're going to sew the bias tape down, anyway)
I haven't quilted in over 25 years. TH-cam randomly sent this today. You inspired me to quilt again with your fabulous attitude and beautiful work!!
I'm glad it has found you 🥰

I would love to see your bed quilt!
Sounds lovely, I'd love to see it! If you'd like, please send me a photo to contact@seweasybysandy.com
Me too!
I made a stained glass quilt very similar to this, but with batiks. I did it as Quilt-as-you-go. It won a ribbon at the quilt show!
That's so cool 😁
I have a tip: I learned to make something very similar to this back in the 90's. The black bias was added to each block before sewing the blocks together.
That might help but wouldn't it make ot harder to match the black? wonky as I am I'm pretty sure you'd notice all the connections
@@seweasybysandy It would only help with the parts that go into the seams when sewing the finished blocks together. However, you could do it at the same time you sew each set together. @digging4roots it does make sense, thank you 😊
@digging4roots love that 😊
You are lovely, Sandy. Your stained glass quilt is stunning and with more fabric, it would make a beautiful table runner. Good job!
Yes! It would make an awesome table runner 😁 thank you 🥰

Yes! Quilt as you bias tapehehehe

I love the quilt and the tiny iron
Beautiful- love Kaffe fabrics too! You can use a double needle to sew the bias tape down too- it’s not hard, just another skill to add to your sewing knowledge! Thank you for sharing!
Yeah, I'm very curious about that, I'll have to buy a double needle and give it a try, would have made this whole process so much easier!
I planned on making a stained glass quilt for my guild’s quilt show challenge. I may just have to use this technique and as others have suggested, quilt it by sewing down the tape after it’s sandwiched.

Kaffe always have beautiful colors for quilts, along with Tula. This is very pretty
Their fabrics are stunning!
@@seweasybysandy not exactly my cup of tea but will agree the color play is very stunning.

Heheh, we start out with such big ideas and then end up converting 😁
I enjoyed watching and I love how the stained glass looks.
Thank you 😊

Thank you so much! My machine and I have a pretty rocky relationship too! I get it. 😁
I love this! I just finished a quilt top that looks like stained glass. Definitely making one using this technique. Thanks
I love the effect! I think it would look really beautiful for a quilted tote bag.
I think so too!
Stunning! Great enthusiasm and positive attitude.
Thank you! 😊
Awesome project! ❤ Thanks for sharing!!!
thank you 😀
It's really pretty. Love the cherry colors.
I love the way you've done this, I did it the original way and it was way difficult. I really enjoy your videos! Thank you!
thank you! Yes, the traditional way looks very complicated, I've never tried it!
I love the fabrics you chose
Oh Sandy this is absolutely beautiful. I too have been scared to try a stained glass quilt, but you have made it easy. Thank you. Can't wait to try one. ❤
Thank you, I hope you do! 😁

One of my first quilts (a king sized😂) was a crazy cut block - quilt as you go. Your colours are fabulous - beautiful
That was brave!! Making a king sized quilt as one of your first quilts 😁
Omg it’s amazing! I got to make one of these
Love the colors and looks so fun to make. You did it again
Thank you, I love it too
I really appreciate you showing your mistakes. It’s definitely an important part of the process. Your quilt is gorgeous.
Thank you so much!😁
Beautifully designed
Glad you like it 😁
Oh how i love this one. You make your videos look so easy but fun and beautiful ❤.
Thanks so much 😊
Stunning! 🤩 Thank you so much for sharing!😘

Stunning
Very pretty
Absolutely beautiful

I just found your channel I love this!!
Welcome! I'm so glad you've found us 😁
This makes me smile ❤
Beautiful! I think a thinner window frame would be better though. thanks for that idea on the bias tape. I’m going to try this.
I agree! I'm definitely trimming it down before adding it to the wall 😁

Hi, thank you! How would you have done it? 😊
That's a great idea 💡
I'll zig-zag or use a serpentine stitch to apply thin bias tape. Thanks for the video; it's a great idea.
Sounds great!
How beautiful!!
Thank you 🥰
Donna Jordan with Jordan Fabrics did this quilt. I saw you referenced her video but didn’t mention her.
I love it. I may make one later next year’ ❤🎉
Sounds great! 😁
You sold me 💜💙💚
This is pretty amazing.
Genius!
Should have added the batting and backing before sewing the bias tape because that would have been the quilting. Quick finish.
You're right! If I wanted to complete the quilt, I could do quilt as you go while sewing the bias tape 😁
@@seweasybysandyA new tech..Quilt while you bias tape!
@denisestilling2810 we need a name for that! 😁

Fabulous! Did you see both sides of the iron on binding or just one?
Sorry, I didn't understand the question
@ did you sew on both sides of the binding or just one side or the middle

Hi! If I'm understanding correctly, you would do something closer to the traditional version, is that it? The reult is absolutely stunning that way!
How many charm pack squares did you use in total? The whole pack?
For this exact project I used 20 squares, so half a charm pack.
Love
What size did you square your blocks to?
Hi. They're 4 inches.
YES !
❤❤❤
🥰
What will you do with it now?
It will probably end up on my wall, as my favorites always do 😁
