I am also a self taught quilter, started when I retired and now at 83 am still learning tricks like this one to make quilting even more simple. You are a good instructor and appreciate your quiet demeanor. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your comment! There's always something new or changing, isn't there?! We are always learning!
83, you are still a puppy, you don’t get over the hill until 101. ❤
@@mtnjhutch Oh my gosh, I’m turning 82 next week, and I’ve wondered if I should be sizing down. You are so encouraging. I did longarming fo others for 20 years after I retired from my real job. I think I just need to keep positive and going forward. Thank you for the encouragement!
totally agree, like your style.
Love the quilting teacher in the video AND your comment!! I recently retired and am just starting my quilting adventure! 🥰
I have never done a four patch but will certainly try now. You are an excellent teacher and the speed of video is perfect. Thank you Karen.
This is SO much better than many other tutorials I've watched.
Simplicity without endless repetitions, and no War-and-Peace length introductions about how gorgeous this quilt is going to be and how your great-great-grandma used to quilt while she was hiding from the Yankees in the attic.
Just the facts, ma'am.
Love your comment! ❤❤❤
AMEN! That’s funny. But so true!
Thank you for your tutorial on an easy way to make four-patches. I totally agree with the previous comments that your quiet, to-the-point explanation was a blessing!! There are so many that talk, talk, talk before they get to the point. And by the way, I am 89, have been quilting for a while but am still learning!
Great to hear and we are always learning aren’t we?? Thanks for watching!!
Great job!
You are a superb teacher. Thank you for just getting down to business with no chit chat. It shows you respect our time. I am very interested in seeing more on your pressed side with extra attention spent on your pressing decisions. ❤️👍
You are so welcome! Thank you for the kind words! And for the feedback! With these I actually press my seams open but you could press to one side if you preferred!
@@sugarstitchesquiltco I always press my seams to the side, and in situations like this, I 'spin' the center where the bulk is.
Lovely patches and teaching. Thank you so much.
Q
I have a question do I have to work this with 5 inch squares, can I do a bigger 4 patch using 8 inch ? I have 8 inch squares and I wanted to do 4 patch like this using my 8 inch pre-cut squares
Thank goodness for you and the way you teach! I'm 72 and a new quilter! Your step by step approach is exactly what I need!!
hugs, Donna
Love your calming way of teaching. Nothing rushed, no repeating over & over & over again. Thank you for your time.
Oh thank you so much! And thanks for watching!
Oh my goodness! Your instruction is perfection... so clear, sequential, well-paced AND with inspiring passion! I'm grateful you appeared on my phone! Thank you very much. Word has to "get out" about you as you are exceptional! As a retired teacher of 41 years, I appreciate what it takes to teach so well! You're a marvel!
I hope your channel sky-rockets... it certainly should!
Oh you are too sweet and made my day!!!! I’m so glad to have you here!!!
Beautifully written, Margie! I couldn't agree more.
I know exactly what you mean as that was my background too.
you make it so easy to follow. Enjoyed tutorial!
What do they look like put together in a quilt? Do you intersperse them with a skid block, use smashing in between or just sew them all together?
I'm a beginning quilter at 70+ and need all the tips I can get. I love patchwork squares! Thank you for showing such an easy method. I have purchased a couple of charm packs with prints I love but wasn't sure how to get started. Now I can proceed!
That's great! We are always learning! I'm glad this helped!
I, too, am a beginner at age 73. You ladies give me hope.😊
I thoroughly enjoy not only your shared-techniques but also your ‘slower’ way of teaching! Thank you for teaching!😊
You’re welcome 😊 thank you for being here!
I have been accumulating fabric but haven't made a quilt yet. With your informative video, I think I will find a pattern for the four patch. I'm in my 70's and this is what I've been planning for my retirement. These videos are certainly a help. Thank you!
That’s great to hear! Thanks for watching!
87 years. I think I am going to have a new hobby
Thank you for this hack. I've been sewing for 50 years and have never tried this technique. While I am an experienced sewist and don't need such detail, the tutorial will be helpful to anyone, even the newst beginner. You gave step-by-step instruction without talking down or including any chatter. Good work!
Wonderful! Thank you for your kind words and for watching!
my mom would be so proud! 10 years too late but she was a wonderful quilter as you are! thank you! I am on it!!!!!
Aww thank you!! Good luck to you!!
I'm a self taught and newbie quilter. This tutorial was so easy to understand and follow that I subscribed. I can't wait to get some time and go back and watch some of your other tutorials. This one came up when I searched on YT for easy quilt patterns using charm squares. 😃
Oh I’m so glad to hear that, thank you!!!! I love charm packs!!
This is the first time I am viewing your videos. I want to mirror what other people are saying . Your presentation is great. You don’t assume we know everything and your explanations are very clear . You talk in a calm voice, repeat information. As a new beginnner I thank you for your help.
Thank you so much Michelle! I appreciate that and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I am a beginner to quilting at 75. I have really enjoyed your professional instructions and appreciate these time saver tips immensely!. Will be binge watching all your previous videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
I'm so glad that you're here and that you are enjoying the videos! Thanks for watching!
Great tutorial! You have a great voice for this, no rushing, slow and understandable!!! Easy instructions, no long winded intro!!
Thank you so much!!! Glad you enjoyed it!!! Thanks for watching!
Very impressed with the 4 patches tutorial from 5 patch pre-cut squares!
What an awesome technique! Beautiful little 4 patch squares! 🪡
Your explanations were organized, clear, and interesting. Thanks! I could understand exactly what to do because you didn’t take any chances on the viewer/listener forgetting. For an elderly person, this is just what I needed. Much appreciated!!!!😊
That’s so great to hear! Glad you enjoyed it!
This tutorial popped up after I finished watching something else, and I'm so glad it did. I've been quilting for over 20 years and never saw this method for a 4 patch before. you paced it si even a beginner could catch on. I really appreciate what you are doing for quilters.
I’m a newly self-taught quilter and I just can’t wait to try this! I have a baby blanket to make for a friend and some gorgeous small volume floral charm packs. This will be adorable. Thank you for the tutorial, I’ll be referencing it as I go along.
Fantastic teacher. Self-taught, I'm 74, been quilting for a year and a half. Stayed away from these as I didn't want to drive myself crazy with the squares.
Thank you! You should try this method! Working with the larger pieces helps! Good luck!
Great teaching Thank you for a very good camera setting--close ups were awesome ! Make more videos, Please..
Thanks so much Phyllis! More coming!
I just followed you. Your video is well paced and the pace is consistent throughout the video. No rushing to finish. The lighting is great. Sound quality is great throughout. Materials covered are easy to follow and easy for followers to reproduce consistent results. Thank you.
I'm from The Western Cape South Africa who is also a self-taught quilter approximately 30years.... The love of needlework got me from schooldays and my departed Beloved Mother not interested in dressmaking.... You teaches with simplicity
Fabulous! I love learning these tricks as a new quilter.
Glad it was helpful!

Well…this was de-LIGHTFUL❗️Thank you‼️😊 so much for sharing this “magic trick”😊 Your manner and method of instruction is excellent…Thank you‼️😊 again. (Btw…I’m yet another 83 year old).
Awesome to hear!!! Enjoy! Thanks for watching!!
Wow....best video I've seen. Thanks for getting to the point. No annoying chit chat. Can't wait to see more of your videos!!!!
I just found your channel this morning and have watched 2 videos. I just had to jump on and tell you what a great "teacher" you are. Your instructions are very clear and thorough. I'm a fairly experienced quilter but I love watching quilting videos. Thanks for providing some great tutorials!
Oh thank you so much!!! That makes me happy to hear! We are always learning aren’t we!?
From a veteran 30+ yr school teacher, you nailed it! Very sequential, no extra useless chit chat, slow pace, good visuals, and clear voice! Nicely done!
You do a wonderful job of explaining the techniques. My least favorite thing about making a quilt is cutting out the fabric. So glad to have your tutorial tips on cutting and sewing.
Thanks for being here Olivia! Sometimes cutting can get mundane! Have you tried an Accuquilt cutting system? bit.ly/3ZBObCe
@@sugarstitchesquiltco Thanks, I’ll check it out.
Do you use an Accuquilt? I'm new at quilting and would love to see you demonstrate cutting blocks and strips with this machine. I've watched their video but still confused how to lay the fabric. You explain everything much better than most and don't rush the process. So thankful you have a TH-cam channel
Been sewing for 53 yrs never thought of this thanks will make my quilting a lot easier thanks
That’s awesome! Glad it helped!!
I am a total beginner sewer and quilter. After watching this video, I think I will try it
This is a really great way to make a 4 patch, thank you! A tip I learned to make sure the pieces are actually cut thru the center was to measure 2-1/4" from the stitch line, that way those pesky pinked edge don't get in the way.
Great tip!!! Those edges are definitely pesky!!
Thank you. I just did a 4 patch baby quilt. I wish I'd seen your video before I started it. This will be very helpful for me. Thank you again.
It will be quick for you next time!! It's fun using a charm pack for the variety! I bet your baby quilt is adorable!
Wow❤🎉😊
Great teacher your voice is so relaxing and calm. Thank you for sharing your talent
Excellent video. Calm voice. No chitter chatter. Great outcome. Wish I had send this earlier. Thank you!
I loved your directions! So explicit and you spoke so clearly. Perhaps saying ‘both’ sides rather than ‘either’ side would made it clearer for beginners.
Thank you for the excellence video lesson.
Good point, thanks!!
Great Video! You did a great tutorial and your explanations and process of creating this 4 patch block were easy to follow. When I saw where this was going, I had my mouth hanging open--WOW.
Glad it was helpful! It’s such a quick and fun project!
Wow. There is so much more to quilting than I ever knew.
There sure is! We are always learning!
I loved your tutorial on making 4 patches from 5" squares, I will keep watching. I especially enjoyed your voice because you were clear speaking and slow enough too enjoy listening, so yes I have subscribed.
Great to have you here!! Good luck!
Love your videos! You have a gift for teaching for sure! I appreciate your clear speech, slow delivery, and close camera angles! Yay for SSQC!!
Wow, thank you! Thanks for watching!!
I agree with everyone on your teaching methods. Also noticed the quality in your filming. ❤❤❤
It is a perfect time to spin the seams with this 4 patch. Nice tutorial.

Thank you for your shortcuts. I appreciate you not speaking to fast and repeating what is important. Great tutorial!! 13:47
Thank you so much!
Very reassuring. I was in a inspiration slump.
Thank you!
Awww, well I’m glad you are feeling inspired! We all have times like that!
I prefer to watch first and then decide about subscription. I will watch your video and let you know :)
Awesome! Thank you!
I been sewing since I was 14. (5 decades) I'm sewing on my Mamas 1953 Pfaff, my Daddy got for after they married. I hoping to making quilts for my 3 kids & 7 grandbabies. Quilting is so much math, not something I'm real good at.
I love help lime the video. Ty so much from. WYOMING.
Glad you are here! Sounds like you have a lot of quilting to keep you busy! I am horrible at math but it doesn't stop me from writing patterns! You can do it!
This is a great shortcut, thank you! I love the look of the four-patch, but lots of tiny squares to cut and sew is intimidating to a newbie; time for me to give this a go!
Me too!!! These go really quick too!
