    Wanting to sew something I decided to go thru my stash to see what I had. To my surprise I found a card trick baby quilt that I started 16 years ago for my grand-daughter when she was born (2007) but never finished. I thought I had thrown it out. I was so discouraged with it using the tradition method with triangles. I gave it another try now, but was still not having much success. I'm so happy to have found your tutorial. Needless to say, after watching your video Paulette, I started over using your method. I am so pleased to say that I have completed my granddaughter's baby quilt! Took me about 2 weeks off & on. I had enough of the original material to do so. I am so happy! I can't wait to give it to her (she will probably think I'm silly for giving her a baby quilt now!) Thank you so much for re-inspiring me! I learned how to sew when I was in grade 7 (I just turned 70). I sewed alot of clothing for myself, my mom and my children over time but never tackled a quilt until I tried this baby quilt years ago. Looking forward to trying another. Thank you Paulette. @@TulipSquare I did make a block just as you showed, and it turned out pretty good. I only started learning to use a sewing machine a year ago and I'm now working on my second quilt I've ever made. It's been quite an experience and I've learned that the seam ripper is my friend. haha I'm a 68 year old guy and this is all new to me, but it's been nice to learn how to make something I've admired my whole life. I had a Great Aunt who made quilts when I was a kid. She mostly sewed them by hand. But I remember some of the quilts she gave my family and many of them used pieces of clothing that we kids had out grown. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge. It's much appreciated.

    • @TulipSquare
      @TulipSquare  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jetmakr That's wonderful, so glad you've discovered the wonders of quilting! You might be happy to know that the seam ripper is a friend to ALL quilters, no matter how long we've been doing it. Many of us in the quilting community call him Jack (the ripper), so when we find our screw ups we say things like "Oops, guess I'll go hang out with Jack for a while!" Makes it sound a little less tedious. 😄

      @jetmakr 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@TulipSquare I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has become cozy with the seam ripper. That's funny...Jack. I'll remember that. It's fun to pick up on little bits like that.

They also lived during the crafty hay day and the women's movement when women shared instead of competing for everything so, If they are good presenters, they have the best vids.

    What a great way to make this block. I like the very simple way of cutting and sewing and I also like the corner colored squares. Thanks so much! Way back in the “olden days” when piecing was dine by hand, I did make this block and used partial seams which I had to figure out myself. Block turned out great - but piecing with just squares and rectangles is sooo much easier! I took screen shots on my iPad along with your sewing so I could actually remember the sizes to cut and how to put them all together!!!

    Thank you so very much, the block isso much simpler to make than the first, and only, card trick block I made in a sampler quilt. I shall definately try this technique, I love it.

    I dreaded making this block with half square triangles but i think i will enjoy making it with squares and rectangles. Thank you for your tutorials. I need to learn how to make this a 12 1/2 inch square now.

    Hi Paulette,
    Thanks so much for another excellent tutorial! You are an easy to understand instructor and I appreciate your experienced insight and comments. It would be great if you could help us 'new to quilting' sewers learn how we can estimate needed yardage for different quilt sizes for this and other blocks. That would be a great Saturday program.
    Thanks!

    • @grandmalovesmebest
      @grandmalovesmebest ปีที่แล้ว

      There's an app for that. Check your app store. Happy sewing!

    • @TulipSquare
      @TulipSquare  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! We're glad you're enjoying the channel. @grandmalovesmebest is correct, there are apps to help you calculate the yardage you need for any project. Look up "quilt calculator". Lots of people use the one by Robert Kaufman, but there are others as well. You put in the pieces required, and it tells you how much fabric you need. 🌷
