I DO like to press after I have sewn that first big, long seam on the jelly roll race quilt. It is easier to press when there is only one seam, and once you have that big, long seam all pressed, most of your pressing is done! I do not like to drag the entire un-pressed quilt to the ironing board and try to press all the seams at once. Even though you often want to "race" to get the whole thing sewn, stopping at that point to press that big seam prevents a lot of frustration later.
❤it ! Been years since I saw some of these patterns ! Thanks ! I never liked the crazy nine patch though I appreciate all quilts and the work put into them ! This was a fun video! Thanks !
I just found you. I’m a bag maker starting quilting again after so many years. I’ve only made about 2 and both are runners. I am working on a lap quilt and hoping to make a jelly roll race. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Welcome back to the fabulous world of quilting! Table runners are great small projects…such a feeling of accomplishment to finish a beautiful, useful item. What pattern are you using for the lap quilt?
Just wanted to say “hello” as I just found your videos (and subscribed immediately!!!) - the words “jelly roll” caught my attention as I love precuts! I’m my head I’m trying to,work out what size quilt I’d end up with from a half jelly roll (20 strips = about 800 inches. I’ll work out the math when I finish watching all your videos! Oh, about the half jelly rolls - I thought these would make nice smaller quilts for my guild’s charity (children in crisis). I’m very excited to get back to the videos! Thanks!!!!!

I’m so sorry- I was writing to another video when it cut to yours when I hit send🤦🏻♀️. I watched and saved your jelly roll video just before watching the other one so idk what happened. Thank you for teaching me about jelly rolls and for the awesome patterns.😄
It May be that the strips will be sewn together in 45 minutes, but the quilt will not be finished in that time. That being said I do enjoy your tutorials.
Hi, that last block, the measurements should be 8 and a half, not 6 and a half. Do like the different ways to use strips, and the fact you make your own.
Good catch! The Framed 4-patch will finish at 8 1/2 inches when using jelly roll strips. Thanks for watching and clarifying that for everyone. Happy Quilting!
My rainbow jelly roll finished about 50x64”, nice lap size. 🎉 You can see a comparison of different jelly roll race quilts in this video: Quilt Chat Part 2 - Finishing the Jelly Roll Race quilt th-cam.com/video/fxDPwLMb0uM/w-d-xo.html
During the introduction, I am standing in front of a Jelly Roll Race made from batik fabrics. I added the borders to make it big enough to donate to Quilts of Valor.
I love the quilt you have on the wall behind you. 😊
Yes, that was a beautiful jelly roll collection. I usually buy Island Batik 😍
love the look of the rainbow quilt!
Thank you! Rainbow color schemes are so bright and cheery. 💙🌈💙

Great suggestion! I agree, pressing one seam is alot more manageable than 30 small ones. Thanks for sharing. 💙🎉💙
I agree completely! I also prefer to pre as I’m sewing whatever that might be.
What an awesome list of quilts and so lovely! Thank you for posting this video!
Thanks Brenda! I love sewing with strips💙🎉💙
Very cute

Hi Brenda, how’s your day going with you?
Thank you very much for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
This is sew easy. Thank You.
So glad you enjoyed it! 💙🎉💙
When sewing the long strip you don’t have to worry about the twisting, because once you get to the end you have to cut the strip, which un twists it.
Helpful tip! Thanks for sharing your wisdom 😁
Forgot about that! Absolutely correct, although in my OCD mind I would straighten them out along the way😄😄
I attach the "start end" to the table using light-tack painters tape. No more searching for the end.
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing that tip 🔥
Beautiful…..
Thank you! I hope you found some inspiration 🥰
Hi Charlene, how’s your day going with you?
I noticed you have no strings on the guitars. Is that because it would be too bulky/bumpy to sew them in? Beautiful piece, thank you
I don’t have guitars in any of my quilts. 🤷♀️ Thanks for watching!

@@sandynesmith9291 I figured it was something like that! 😂 There are some awesome quilt patterns featuring guitars if you want to combine interests 💕
I’ve been working on mine for at least 5-6 hrs and still working….anew quilter…not quite what ai thought….lol
You definitely get faster with practice. And, I didn’t start the clock until after sewing all the strips together 😜
How large a quilt can I make with a jelly roll? I want to do the first quilt that you showed. Thanks!
Hi Linda! I show the finished size of a jelly roll race in this video th-cam.com/users/livefxDPwLMb0uM?feature=share
It ended up about 34” x 64”
Hi Linda, how’s your day going with you?
It May be that the strips will be sewn together in 45 minutes, but the quilt will not be finished in that time. That being said I do enjoy your tutorials.
True, completing ALL the steps for a finished quilt never happens in just one hour, and rarely in a single day! 😂 Thanks for watching.

I just caught that myself!!!! So many really nice quilts from jelly rolls or cut strips!!!!! Great way to use scraps if they are big enough.
Have you done a video with quilt as you go?
I haven’t ever used that technique! I bought a Longarm pretty early in my quilting journey so that has not been an issue.
How many strips did you use? A regular jelly roll amount?
Yes, a typical jelly roll race quilt takes 40 strips.
Hi Lynne, how’s your day going with you?
How big was the final quilt top for the first option?
My rainbow jelly roll finished about 50x64”, nice lap size. 🎉

You did not tell us how big your jelly roll race ended up being the measurements of it
Good point! I will grab a measuring tape…
