Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us-one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America-a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. That’s it. End of mission.

@@remiscott9843 having a person there is much more intense effect. We can't question videos. We can't see tears and breakdowns in real time.
I am completely flummoxed by the lack of intelligent politics that the Dems showed in these impeachment trials. I think it is incredible that the House chose to do the exact same thing this time even after the failure in the first impeachment.
It's as if the Dems refuse to even try. But Romney gave a token vote for the truth. Other Senators joined him this time.
That tells me that it is possible to get some votes, even when we make no attempt to do so. Imagine what might have been the result if the House approached the problem as if there was hope for conviction.
Both cases felt like a slam dunk and the House presented them that way. What a laughable strategy. They looked like fools with their little video and the Republicans showed the folly of that strategy.
See? they said, "We can make videos too."
What should have been done was to dig into every Republican - - not to find dirt but to discover what issues and ideas are important for them and their donors. They should have had a strategy for every R and most D Senators. All they wanted was a good line for them when they talk to their voters and they schmooze with their donors. Everyone there would have at least paid attention to the case if they thought that they could vote their conscience while assuring their constituents and donors that they also benefitted from that vote.
All of them thought that a Trump-protecting vote would best serve their campaign speeches. The entire point for the House should have been to discover and then present a good reason to vote differently this time. I can't be the only one thinking this.
How can we expect them to choose the more difficult vote if you don't provide a single stump speech argument that they can use when their constituents question their votes?
It is utterly worthless to present a case that makes sense to the Dems and ignores the needs of those whose voters won't automatically approve of their vote.
To fail to troll intelligently for Republican votes either time shows us that the current crop of Dems really suck at politics and clearly aren't that bright.
If you want votes then you have to go get them. It shouldn't have been too hard. Both parties are required to please the same people. If the donors pushed, those Rs would have filled the voting rolls with yeas in a straight ticket.
So, are the Dems too dumb to be aware of the poli Sci 101 understanding of their jobs: or are the Dems trying to accomplish something else that they did not share with the rest of us?

Great episode today, guys & Jon's "Lovett or Leave It" this weekend had me running to the damn bathroom before I wet myself. How embarrassing LOL...but Tommy is right on when he said we're in a misinformation crisis. Everywhere you turn someone is spouting off some baseless bullshit they found in the Black Hole of the internet🙄😑

I'm so with you guys. Why do these Sunday morning talk shows keep inviting the same Republican liars back for comment? They simply spew misinformation talking points over and over again.
I can't help but go back to Tim Russert. Tim Russert controlled Meet the Press. If someone he invited tried to control the conversation with misinformation, Russert would cut him off. If that didn't work, Russert wouldn't interview him again.
I started my career in television news journalism back in the 70s. If you willfully told a lie on the air, you were fired. Editorial and lying are two entirely different things. Editorial is based on "facts." Lying is simply lying and is based on more lying.
Today, it's different. Part of the problem is the FCC doesn't have the same power that it did back in the 70s. These issues were addressed at the onset of television broadcasting. (That's why the FCC was created.) The theory behind it was, broadcast was able to essentially reach everyone. With that said, it had to be regulated. I'm sick of hearing people today making the argument of free speech. Free speech does not cover willfully lying in order to mislead the American public. It's fucking dangerous. January 6 is proof on how dangerous it is.

I enjoy crooked media it makes me think , for Example. We are all in such a complex situation with free speech, media and history. A lie and truth have degrees of currency in a bewildering equation . news is a situation of of trying to persuade the truth and weed out the lie and then is judge as some sort commentary on the facts. a thought brought on by John Lovetts comment on history and vindication. Thank you

    • @pakde8002
      @pakde8002 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Media has always been considered a fourth branch of government. There was a time when members of government could not stand up and tell bald faced lies over and over because other members of government and the media would call out their lies and voters would hold them accountable, but now every element in this equation of accountability is divided across party lines so that political figures can blatantly lie knowing that aligned media outlets and voters will support the lie. We are truly on the edge of an Orwellian dystopia where lies and demagoguery coexist and even win over objectively verifiable truths. The first amendment will become the sword that killed our democracy if we don't figure this out very soon and act on it.

You can also tell, legally, that they know it's defamation. Or close enough they are afraid of punitive damages. Because their retractions are an attempt to get to the legal standard to make it become financial damages and avoid punitive damages.
You don't issue those absurd retractions if they had ANY valid evidence to support their allegations.

I have the advantage of watching this after day 1 of the trial. The video they showed tells the story. Unless the have video or audio of the former President saying we have to storm the Capital Building no amount of witness's can add to what is so plain for everyone to see. Trumps Attornies were comic relief. ✌
