  • Joe Biden is sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, Kamala Harris is sworn in as the 49th Vice President, former game show host Donald Trump retires to Florida, and the new administration immediately gets to work. Jon Favreau and Dan Pfeiffer break down the inauguration, including Biden's speech and Amanda Gorman's poem. Then, they discuss Biden's day 1 executive actions and the fight over the filibuster in the Senate.

Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us-one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America-a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. That’s it. End of mission.

This is a really dark comment, I know, but that last 'administration' was also what the country deserved.....at the time.
Decades of voter disengagement, exceptionalism "oh it could never happen here" thinking etc etc led to such low turnouts that an extremist right wing thing like the trump 'administration' got in (and on more like 20% of the electorate rather than a majority).
Hopefully though enough people see why voting and why 'boring' politics matters. 🤞

Please tell me I wasn't the only one who cried the first time saying the words "President Biden". I was driving when I just blurted it out just to hear how it sounded. I was working during the inauguration, but got to see the parade. When he and Dr. Biden got out of their limo to walk the remaining distance to The White House, I started clapping and waving at the screen expecting him to wave back at me (I know...I'm a dork). On another note, I'd love to hear what Secret Service feels about the challenges of protecting someone who loves people and socializing. He's so friendly and approachable, made evident when he broke from his entourage to greet a few members of the press and the DC Mayor. Such a 180° from T****. I can finally get a good night's sleep.

Best inaugural Poem EVER. I don't recall tearing up at a poem ever in my life; I don't really "get" or like poetry that much. Amanda Gorman's age put a little extra shine on it--but would have been just as amazing a piece of work that was perfect at the moment if she was 45, 65, or 85.
The fact that she has a speech impediment, and also that Dr Biden recommended Ms Gorman added an extra glow--but that was a work of poetry for the ages regardless.❤

While I tend to agree with you I am, with a bit of hindsight, happy he did so.
The thing about the Inaugural ceremony and the thing about the parade on Pennsylvania Avenue is, I am happy that there was as much normalcy as there was possible. And that contained President Joe Biden walking with his family on Pennsylvania Avenue. If you let yourself intimidate this much that you are giving up very important traditions like the Inaugural ceremony happening on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol and the president and his family walking on Pennsylvania Avenue you are letting the insurrectionists have a win they will cherish forever.
It is good that the Inaugural Committee didn't let the insurrectionists win by breaking with these important traditions.
