    Fun fact, going from 11W to 15W get you very little FPS performance but use almost 50% more battery. Try to limit TDP to 11W and you might be surprised how well it plays

      @@dawncyclist Press 3 little dots bottom right of steam deck and you can find it in the settings from there. You'll have to turn on TDP first before you can lower it. PS: I usually set in game settings to 720 and turn on FSR in the same settings as the TDP/FPS. It still makes the game look crisp and can get a little boost in performance (FPS).

      This is actually so true. In most games ive played 12w seems to be the sweet balance between stable frames and battery life. It seems like pushing it to 15w hardly makes difference

    I bought a steam deck lcd used from a used marketplace last week as a gift to myself to celebrate my son's birth. I figured it will fit my future lifestyle that you just describe, little spots of 20 mins here and there to pick up some game time. And boy was that a great decision. I'm back into gaming and like you said, it has been one of the best pieces of tech I've bought in recent memories.
    I'm more of an indie game player. Currently I'm playing Alba Wildlife Adventures, A Short Hike, Celeste, Mass Effect 3, Stray, and Hades.

    The reason why the temperatures and battery life are so much better than their lcd counterparts is because of the change from 7nm to a smaller 6nm process of transistors. 6nm is much more efficient because not only is it the same tech in a smaller package, the die/cores are also smaller, meaning they produce less heat, leading to lower temps. That, and the entire mainboard and cooling system was rehauled. Smaller transistors also mean less travel times for electrons and therefore less loss of energy (stacks up over millions of transistors), leading to longer battery life. That, plus battery increasing by 50% makes for a heck of a lot more longevity in battery. Just a couple of tidbits that explain why you were getting the results you were. Nice video! Liked that you tested performance with benchmarks yet also included a lot of user experience with it.

    It looks nice but as someone that got spoiled with the aggressive pricing at 350 dollars for the LCD 64gb version back when I got it almost two years ago 550+ dollars seems a bit steep when we are talking about 5-7 extra FPS. The battery life and screen seems nice though. I would consider it if I did not have the LCD but it does not really seem like that big of an upgrade to me from the LCD considering the price increase. When we are talking that price range then yes, we will have to bring the competitors in because now we are in the same price range but worse performance. I would change the reasons you have exposed for choosing the deck or other handheld pc, because with the deck you can play the same games as the others in 99% of the cases, so that can't be the point.
    The strong ponts of the deck are :
    - Best efficiency and performance at low tdp.
    - Best battery life because of point 1.
    - Best user console like experience, by far.
    - Best customer service.
    - Best price/performnace ratio.
    - Better screen.
    And the others:
    - More powerfull (but only at 20tdp or high, wich means 45mins to 1.30h of battery life).
    - More native compatibility with anticheat games because windows.
    - The VRR of the ally.
    So, only if you are seeking for the higher fps you can get, and din't care about battery life, and don't mind using windows in a hanheld, or you play mostly multiplayers with anticheat, then choose any of the others. In any other sceneario, choose the deck oled.

    Love my OLED. Bought Steam Deck LCD on day 1, and I fell in love with it so much that I knew right then that if they ever make a refresh or a Steam Deck 2, I'll buy it on launch as well. Did so with the OLED, and I can't get enough of it. It's a great device that offers a fantastic, console-like experience but also allows you to scratch that tinker itch whenever you feel like it. As for performance - I set mine up with Moonlight running from my main gaming PC, so when something doesn't work well on the SD, I can just stream it via Moonlight on that beautiful OLED screen (with full HDR support!). MoonDeck plugin lets me run games this way with just one click of a button, and it even works over the Internet - like my own, personal GeForce Now, only it's on better hardware, for free, and I can play every game I own, not just those supported by the service.

I haven’t been touching much of indie games and bunch of retro games in pc that I just don’t feel like playing on a desktop. Kinda want to explore the indie games via deck.

    The steamdeck OLED is still a no-brainer for me cause of ease of use and the console like experience. And the performance isn't even bad for a handheld.

      I got the original at launch, then upgraded to the OLED at its launch, and I gotta say… it was worth it.
      And not just for the screen, the biggest upgrade for me is the battery life. It’s obscene lol, I can get literally 12 hours out of retro games. Here’s a quick breakdown of my experience, and keep in mind that this is without tweaking:
      Fallout NV: 4 hours -> 6-7 hours
      Witcher 3: 2:45 -> 3:30-4 hours
      Most indies: 4-5 hours -> 6-7 hours. Sometimes 8-9 depending on the game.
      DS emulation: 4 hours -> 7 hours
      You get the idea. I now don’t even worry about battery life, I’ll play for an hour or two before bed, sleep, leave the Deck on my bedside table, then maybe pick it up the next day to play a bit, put it down, play later that night, all without charging a single time. It’s absurd.
      Also I didn’t include it in the list, but GBC emulation gets me up to 12. I was playing Pokemon Prism, a rom hack, and saw that it would last 12 hours. Blew my mind. Even with heavy tweaking through powertools, the lcd would cap out at like 10.
      Also, not to drag this out any longer, but the biggest deal for me was the extra hour or two out of AAA’s. On my lcd Deck I never really bothered with AAA’s unless I was near an outlet, and at that point it just felt like I should be playing on my desktop. It didn’t feel portable, and I knew if I booted it up it would drain my battery life, giving me way less time to play later on.
      But the extra hour or two gave me enough wiggle room to where I find myself actually playing these games and not being overly worried about battery life. I actually did all of the side content in Marvel’s Spider-man on my Deck while on a plane, and it was fantastic.

    One thing that stand out from your video review 6 month review was when you said that you don't want to lower settings to save on battery life. You want to play it on everything Max best performance best visuals and that's how I see it. I want to take out the best of the best of this device if I'm at home and I'm near a wall outlet and I just want to play on handheld mode. I just plug it in and play everything at its highest possible settings. If I'm on the going. I know I'm doing battery life. I understand that mini PCs have been around for some time, but the Steam OS is unmatched. it makes a whole load of difference. the trackpads?? perfection! there is nothing like it in the market. valve really prioritize portable gaming as opposed to making mini pcs that will play PC games.

    I think one thing that gives the OLED its longevity is the capability to stream HDR on the screen, basically the added benefit of a PS Portal that runs HDR streaming from PS, Xbox, or PC. This reason alone disregards the machines limitation when its hardware can't run the latest game. I just finished part of FF16 and Stellar blade on the steam deck. Mind you, you will need a pretty fast wifi connection.
