Can’t kill them. Never cared if they were trendy. They last and are warm. And a damn good product all around.
As much as I think these handhelds are neat I just can't see justifying the price of something like the ROG X thing when I can get a laptop that does better for just a few dollars more. Hell, my two year old HP Victus is better IMO. Add a 40 dollar wireless gamepad and viola, better experience all around.
In Miami, Legion go with 2tb last week at Micro center was only 650 ... The Ally X with 1TB is 799. The performance is so close with the Ally only having a better battery and more RAM , the Legion go with the bigger screen and 150 dollars cheaper the legion go was my pick. If the Ally X was the same price it would have been a harder decision.
The PS Portal is amazing for what it is. It’s not even that laggy if you have your console wired in. The controls are in a tier of their own and the screen is great at that price point considering it comes with a built in controller. It needed WiFi 7, though.
I 100% agree with this tier list due to me having the Legion Go , Ally X and the Deck Oled which are the bestest out there and I can confirm that I only use the Legion Go
I absolutely LOVE my Legion Go, especially after I found the 2280 SSD Adapter board that let me put a 4TB SSD in it. My Only real complaint is the Dpad, but I put a PSVita Dpad cover on it and that improved it quite a bit
I would almost agree with Matt on the Legion’s S tier.. if it wasn’t for support. Drivers are drastically outdated and improvements found in recent AMD graphics drivers are nowhere to be found. Where as the Ally, and Ally X, releases a new one at least once every 2 months. And there are noticeable differences in some games with a more recent drivers on an APU. The SSD 2242 form factor is also a huge downside But the screen.. and kickstand for other activities is amazing A tier for Legion. S tier for Ally X
Just got a legion go was considering mini pcs with radeon 880m for 500 or a handheld. I got the legion because like the switch taking it apart is really helpful and comfortable for my hands. And i like the option of handheld, tablet, and desktop. But the thing that sold me was matts enthusiasm for it. So thanks for helping me decide im hoping no issues like when i got and returned z1 extreme rog ally due to blue screen issues.

I choose to believe every tier list is a troll to some extent. It helps me sleep at night. That and the picture of Austin's house burning down, that I keep beside my bed.
I fairly disagree with your rating up the Legipn Go above the Rog Ally X,yes it is pricy but the huge battery, better Ram and the compact size gives to the X the definition of portability unlike the Legion Go.
Ally X and Deck OLED should be S tier. The whole point of a gaming handheld is handheld gaming and the LeGo is just too heavy to be comfortably handheld. Plus it's got a while kit that needs to be brought along.
Steam Deck even without the OLED I think should be S tier. It’s definitely the best bang for the buck. I’ve ran a deck now for a year, I haven’t been able to try any others I’m not rich 😂. But I’ve had zero complaints it’s ran any game I’ve thrown at it. The upgradability is really good and I’ve heard some reasonably good things about the customer service. So for the fact you can get one for like $300, and play honestly almost any game in your steam library it’s a hell of steal.
With all its limitations, 800p resolution, and weaker processor, there's no way that can be considered God-tier. It performs worse when booting into Windows, while the Ally handles Windows 11, Bazzite, and soon Steam OS with no issues. I don't see how the Deck could be a better option.
For me, I say the best handheld gaming device is the one you already have. For most people, that would be an iPhone or Galaxy S phone. My best gaming device is a Steam Deck. I almost regret getting my 64GB LCD Steam Deck. I got my Steam Deck in September of 2022. I probably should have waited for the ROG Ally or Legion Go, but I didn't want to wait 9+ months or 13+ months when I could get a Steam Deck in as little as 3 weeks.
The analogue pocket can run roms. It's not even some hacky or modded feature, it's officially supported even if the cores aren't developed by analogue. That said there will be a MiSter based handheld soon. So, unless the design is awful, the analogue pocket will be a completely irrelevant device within it's niche. Unless you are obsessed with sticking cartridges in things of course.
The disrespect on ally for being on the same list as the OG deck. Ally should be above the OG deck its not even close ally supports 3 OS and performs well on those 3 Windows 11 with Amory crate, Bazzite OS (linux), and upcoming Steam OS (linux custom by Valve). I bought Ally for $352 open box good. I love it. I also have a Steam, and I love the simplicity. But I prefer the size of the Ally and the flexibility.
IMO the Legion Go, the Deck OLED and the Ally X are fairly evenly matched. I wouldn’t risk crowning any of them. Each of them has some unique advantages while being far from perfect. If you want performance, compatibility, a trackpad, Hall effect sticks and a huge screen, go Lenovo. Just be aware of subpar ergonomics, audio, fairly noisy cooling, native portrait screen and middling battery life. If your priorities are ease of use, ergonomics, superb sleep/resume, decent cooling, trackpads, great support and image contrast/HDR/pixel response, go Valve. Keep in mind the limited compatibility, screen resolution and performance, however. If you value battery life, huge RAM/good performance, portability, VRR, quiet cooling or good speakers, get the ASUS. I would just be careful with the Ally, seeing how many users are already reporting QC issues, mainly with controls. Also, the screen is on the smaller side, plus there are no trackpads. BTW, I consider the LeGo’s tabletop/FPS mode a pure gimmick but YMMV. Oh, one more thing - I don’t think the LeGo deserves the sole S spot, it just has too many little flaws. I also think the Switch should be ranked higher - it’s a fun handheld with an awesome game catalog, even if its performance sucks and so does joycon drift… Oh, and the Kun is missing. One of the best models, in fact (even though I wouldn’t buy it).
The Legion Go is B Tier at best, the huge screen is nice until you play games on it and you experience how awful it feels to not have vrr or the option to set the hz like the Allys or Steam Decks.
Huh? You can cap the frame rate on the LeGo just like you can on the Deck. It doesn’t have VRR, true. Only the Allies and the Claw do (some “exotics” might as well but I wouldn’t risk buying them).
The Switch should be A or S. It's graphics for 3rd party games sucks really bad indeed. However it has tons of good exclusive games from Mario, Mario 3D world, Mario elephant game, the party games, Wario games, Luigi games, Mario party, Mario Kart, Zelda games, Metroid games, Nintendo classics are super fun!
I know Matt is a Nintendo rage hater, so he probably counted this as a negative, but I think the Switch should have been higher just because most of its games are technically Switch exclusives.
Which one of these handhelds would you guys recommend the most from all the ones that you’re talking about one that I can set up and just play my games without really changing the aspect ratio or doing much tinkering to the game but still play most every game on it And which onewould you recommend and why? And also, I would maybe like to be able to watch some movies and maybe do some other stuff but mostly gaming
I personally own an Ayaneo 2S and i think its the best handheld out there in terms of performance and the way it looks, it almost looks like an Apple product
How long have you had it? And is it holding up well? Just got a slide although I have a Steam Deck OLED and got a little antsy before it arrived about potential issues.
I wish the gaming handheld devices uses the 2280 nvme ssd instead of the the 2230 nvme ssd. The highest capacity I found on amazon for the 2230 nvme ssd is onlb which is too small since newer games take up more storage space. The highest capacity for the 2280 nvme ssd is 4tb which is double the capacity of the 2230 nvme ssd. The 2280 nvme ssd is like the size of a single stick of gum and the size of the 2230 nvme ssd is like the size of a single amd ryzen cpu. There is no 4tb and 8tb capacity options for the 2230 nvme ssd but there are 4tb and 8tb 2280 nvme ssds. The 2280 nvme ssds are very common since they are used in laptops and gaming pc's as well being used for external ssd enclosures and even in nas home media servers. If there was an option to use 2280 nvme ssd inside of an android phone. I would choose to have the 4tb or 8tb options for the 2280 nvme ssd and use the high capacity for my entire 4k, blu ray and dvd discs that I rip in full uncompressed iso video format since the iso video format from the discs are an exact duplicate bit perfect copy of the discs including all menus, languages, special features, all the surround sound formats etc. and my library of hi res audio like dsd audio files and 24 bit 96khz flac lossless audio files as well games, roms and emulators.
13:20 steam deck OLED battery life is nearly 50% better and performance is about 3-10% better according to digital foundry. Display is also hdr so A tier is justified ✅

Can’t kill them. Never cared if they were trendy. They last and are warm. And a damn good product all around.
Msi Claw all day i freaking love it hall effect joysticks and its the best feeling in the hand. Intel.
Yes Sir! Was lookin for fam in comments, Claw has better wifi bt ect ect ect. just not ram, wait till their mid life refresh!
Got my Steam Deck Oled and I'm happy.
Switch should be S-tier for inventing the entire category, and Steam Deck S-tier for perfecting it.
Loving the teir list, Legion go baby 🔥🔥🔥🔥 anyone who has an issue with that has never owned a GO
As much as I think these handhelds are neat I just can't see justifying the price of something like the ROG X thing when I can get a laptop that does better for just a few dollars more.
Yay Matt I finally agree on a tech thing with you, the Legion Go is seriously underrated, it's so versatile!
The PS Portal is amazing for what it is. It’s not even that laggy if you have your console wired in. The controls are in a tier of their own and the screen is great at that price point considering it comes with a built in controller. It needed WiFi 7, though.
This video is wild. Only two you should consider is 1. Steam deck 2. Ally X
I 100% agree with this tier list due to me having the Legion Go , Ally X and the Deck Oled which are the bestest out there and I can confirm that I only use the Legion Go
Just ignored SS. Lmao
16:11 they're literally launching the second edition of that in a month I'm talking about the MSI cloth😅
Making a video in the middle of a Micro enter with people casually shopping in the background lol
I love ThisIs they are never incorrect!
I absolutely LOVE my Legion Go, especially after I found the 2280 SSD Adapter board that let me put a 4TB SSD in it. My Only real complaint is the Dpad, but I put a PSVita Dpad cover on it and that improved it quite a bit
The cloud being in f is an atrocity
I literally bought a legion go second hand for £500 and wasnt too sure if i did the right choice but this made me feel better.
The SSD 2242 form factor is also a huge downside
But the screen.. and kickstand for other activities is amazing
A tier for Legion. S tier for Ally X
phones should be A tier in my book👍
Just got a legion go was considering mini pcs with radeon 880m for 500 or a handheld. I got the legion because like the switch taking it apart is really helpful and comfortable for my hands. And i like the option of handheld, tablet, and desktop. But the thing that sold me was matts enthusiasm for it. So thanks for helping me decide im hoping no issues like when i got and returned z1 extreme rog ally due to blue screen issues.
I love this is. lol I literally don’t buy or interact with most of the stuff in this video… im a OG gameboy pocket girlie or switch oled but man I just love watching y’all’s crazy funny chemistry lol ❤
I know Matt's been back for a min now but.. it is good to know he's actually back in the video now..
Austin really doesnt like GPD Win Mini and Max 2. Imagine getting much ayaneo but none of gpd products 😂
I choose to believe every tier list is a troll to some extent. It helps me sleep at night. That and the picture of Austin's house burning down, that I keep beside my bed.
I'm watching on my rg556 Amoled screen for under 200$
556 enjoyers unite
Upgrading from the OG ROG Ally to Legion Go is the best decision I’ve ever made
I agree with Matt on the Legion Go. I love mine. However, since the ally x came out, I think they are tied for S tier.
Just saw you at the micro center in Miami so cooooooool 😊
RGB30! Really cool retro handheld with a great selection of... software.
I fairly disagree with your rating up the Legipn Go above the Rog Ally X,yes it is pricy but the huge battery, better Ram and the compact size gives to the X the definition of portability unlike the Legion Go.
I absolutely love the Portal. I have been using remote play since its conception on the psp to connect to the ps3.
PS VITA.
Steam Deck is God TIER
With all its limitations, 800p resolution, and weaker processor, there's no way that can be considered God-tier. It performs worse when booting into Windows, while the Ally handles Windows 11, Bazzite, and soon Steam OS with no issues. I don't see how the Deck could be a better option.
The Digimon T shirt 😍
I use the heck out of the ps portal. Great for dad mode when everyone is sleeping .
You're phone is hands down the best way to play Dragon Quest V in the west, and for that, it deserved an A
The analogue pocket can run roms.
My favourite handheld is the NES Zapper.
lol, PlayStation portals in the perfect spot😂
I need a Microcenter in my town
Ayaneo missed the ball on making a newer version of a sidekick with the slide
1:09 Except it can also play Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, and Lynx games. It's almost as if they've never used an Analogue Pocket. Hmm...
ROG Ally with Steam OS, S tier
Hopefully it's coming very soon based on all these patch notes 🤞
seriously put orginal steamdeck at same rating ally, come on guys
But its really not
The disrespect on ally for being on the same list as the OG deck. Ally should be above the OG deck its not even close ally supports 3 OS and performs well on those 3 Windows 11 with Amory crate, Bazzite OS (linux), and upcoming Steam OS (linux custom by Valve). The reason deck is not good when booting windows is because its processor is custom made on steam OS that is why booting in windows it performs worse. Ally has better processor, VRR, 1080p, better sound, much portable, and supports 3 OS so you can play any game without having any limitations.
@@nathanjuan6042 the thing still burns SD cards lol
@@DonaldHendleyBklynvexRecords I've had mine for 7 months never had an issue with it. Models that has serial number R8 and R9 are all good only the earlier models has issue with the SD card.
@@nathanjuan6042 nah I just meant there's still old models being shoveled around in the used market vs Steam Deck never really any tech issues but I don't hate the ROG, as long as person has 1 of them its a win
Guy complains about the Slide being too big and girthy and not that portable, yet says that the biggest handheld of all (legion go) is S-tier...
heard all i need to. MSI Claw it is!
I’m using a Steam Deck OLED and love it. I would have put that a S tier.
I've not finished watching the video yet, but thought it was funny legion go got s tier when I'm watching this on a legion go (completely agree with the battery life, it's well enough but could be better for the size of the device but I get no flex when I'm playing on it, so how hard is Austin gripping it😅)
There needs to be a micro center come to Jacksonville, Florida
I bought Ally for $352 open box good. I love it. I also have a Steam, and I love the simplicity. But I prefer the size of the Ally and the flexibility.
Y'all must've been high making this tier list 😂
Creating a commercial around your sponsor for an entire episode. Is not fair to us subscribers. You rock Matt🎉
Why did this come up the day I bought myself an ally x …. Watching and waiting to see if I made the right choice now 😂
wait... am i going crazy or is Matt wearing a shirt with the original Digimon Digivice Logo?!
ye
12:36 don’t threaten me with a good time, Matt.
Great break down
I have a rog ally z1 extreme, i want a legion go to try to incorporate it into a camera rig
I recently noticed they are selling ayaneo now in best buy
Missing out the GPD Win 4 😢. Much better than the Slide.
It also helped make the idea of a large handheld gaming system more mainstream back in 2017.
On first party alone it can get an A. Can’t get an S because 3rd party games are trash
@@malikkelly 3rd party games have really crappy graphics on the switch.
@@davidbailey9464 What?? Please stop 😂
Who let Matt out of the basement?😂
Well screw you to putting Switch in C tier.
Retroarch being on iPhone and Android makes Anbernic in general borderline redundant. In my opinion.
Ally X with Bazzite I think jumps up to S tier. It'll never ship with it stock though due to the Microsoft corporate partnership.
Y'all tripping. The SD LCD is definitely at least A or above. No way in hell is it B , wtf 💀
Matt is nuts. Steam Derck OLED is S-Tier. Ally X should be right next to it. Legion Go is weak sauce and would be lucky to land in A-Tier.
I know Matt is a Nintendo rage hater, so he probably counted this as a negative, but I think the Switch should have been higher just because most of its games are technically Switch exclusives.
The rog ally ofc. Commenting even before watching the video
It’s been over a year now and it’s still amazing, I personally believe that if you get one you don’t need another handheld
I have all the big hitters of the handhelds (O.G. rog ally z1 extreme , Legion go, and steam deck, sold and got the oled). The oled for me is the best system. I love the size of the legion go, but it isn't as comfortable as the steam deck. The battery life on the oled is a lot better than the legion go, and the O.G. steam deck. Steam deck for the win, better controllers, better feel, better vent smell.
Weird rank, ayaneo got every model separate but anbernic it's al together? And a phone is better than dedicated devices for emulation like the anbernic and retroids Wich you didn't even mention, I understand if you go only for top tier handhelds but in the quality/price this little emulation machines are godlike
