I was e pe ting you to explaing who overrides whomor how to disable i mean if the game is rendering belowe native resolition but fsr is enabled in game how does the stemdeck knows if it has to use the system wide fsr if its only parameter is the resolution. Does that men it will use double fsr potentially making it worse

Another fact FSR can also save battery life. By lowering resolution to let's say 800x600 and using a FSR to upscale the graphic resolution artificially to let's say 720p. You'd not only gain performance boost but also gain way better battery life on Steam Deck. At least I do I lower the game resolution to 540p if not lower depending on how demanding the game is on the hardware. To gain better performance, making it run quieter and cooler and most importantly to gain better battery life especially on my Steam Deck LCD!

If you haven't bought a Steam Deck yet. Don't. I could not in good conscience recommend someone buy a Steam Deck if they want to play modern day games on it. In 2025, I predict, at most, half of AAA titles released that year will run on the Deck. My recommendation is buy the Ally X or wait until the next revision of PC gaming Handhelds.

What is the difference in quality between upscaled via FSR and normal high quality? Is it perceptible?

This video was super helpful, not only because I play BO3 on Steam deck all the time (and i hope to try this trick out later) but also because i had no clue what MSR even was.

So if I hook up my deck to a TV with a bigger native resolution than the deck, say 1920x1080, and I turn FSR on in the QA menu, this will work the same way if I set my game to run at any lower than 1080p?

One other thing to add: If a game does not have the option to change Screen Resolution in-game (like Outer Wilds), you can select the gear icon on the right where "Play" is at, select Properties, then lower the game resolution that way. However, it will not actually adjust until you leave the game or are out of it already first. Then FSR will activate. I set the resolution to 1024x640. In Outer Wilds, upon reaching Giant's Deep, going underwater now reaches close to 60 fps when normally it dropped to around 45 fps.

Black ops 3 is just from steam store or is it a emulator?

For black ops 3, make sure you used T7 patch, it fixes the performance, I went from 40-60 FPS to a constant 60 fps and 1-2 hours more battery life Black ops 3 is a dangerous game to play on any pc because of the RCE exploits, which can basically hack your computer. T7 patch should be required Edit: I almost forgot, on an older version of this patch on windows it broke splitscreen, I think it's fixed but be aware. it should be fine on Linux though, although I sold my LCD for a OLED and I'm waiting for it to arrive I can't test it out

great video! I get my steam deck this week. Question - do you have to enable FSR before starting the game? Or can you just enable it mid-game without any restarts?

For a first handheld, Steam Deck Oled is still the best choice or should I choose Lenovo Legion GO Or Rog Ally? I have many games on many platforms, not only just on steam. And would like to play ghost of tsushima or black myth wukong.

Idk but sometimes ppl be asking for to much from a small handheld device. Im happy with my steam deck we both heading into 2025 strong. But like i said common guys stop it is a small device it wont push fps like you pc does so be happy with it i remembered the old firat game boy and we had a blast never was thinking of higher fps bs or whatever. Now we got something better ppl still complain smh be happy, i recently got half life 2 on my steam deck omg is freaking awesome playing i feel young again. Top it off with lethal company ans you will forget about some aaa titles

I bought my steam deck like a week before the oled came out much to my dismay, but i decided to keep it and upgrade the m2 and joysticks. when I went to play black ops 3, i had an issue with crashing on loading screens. I contacted the support for help or advice. and a week later they pushed an update that fixed it. these people actually listen to their customers and I will sing their praises till the cows come home! Give em an honorable mention in your next video if ya dont mind. +1 subscriber!

I found this video because I don't know if I should buy the SD OLED or an Ally Z1 Extreme, despite all the drawbacks from Asus. I'm a fan of Monster Hunter franchise and I play Fortnite a lot with my friends, but I want to play the insane backlog that I have in my gaming accounts, specially Steam and Epic Games, but sometimes I ditch my gaming PC after work because I'm tired.

Devices like the Switch and Deck are perfect for those in the military. Sudden postings in places you can't take a PC (Particularly if you're going on a warship)

Got my LCD Deck July ‘22. Had some amazing times with it but also for months didn’t pick up. But this last year it’s been my go to console/PC due to the Xbox/PS streaming apps (non official) within my house. I cannot stop buying games off CDKeys for less than a £5. It’s become my addiction 😂 Just sold my 512 LCD Deck last night and today the LE White arrives. The extra battery is a must and the OLED screen will be an even better experience. Never thought at 45 I’d be hand held gaming More than my consoles/PC.

i got my steamdeck last month, its been the best gaming purchase ive had for a while, and ive bought almost everything i can get my hands on, im going on a long trip in a few months, and thanks to the deck i will not miss any monster hunter gametime with my boys!!

I was considering getting a Steam Deck, and even though it was cheaper than the Ally X, I still went with the Ally X. I like having the extra power available from the X, the compatibility from Windows without needing to pay extra for it, and I can still get everything from a Steam Deck by installing Bazzite. I upgraded to a 4TB SSD anyway, so I have more than enough room for an extra OS.

While I can agree on almost all points and when I got rog ally x with 4Tb and dualboot, I can't imagine myself going back to my SD -.-. I understand that that's somewhat more money for rog +m.2 but man oh man, is that a beast!

The Steam Deck is a great Handheld PC. But I still believe the Legion Go and the Rog Ally are better handheld PC's. But that's just my opinion. And I had all 3 Handheld PC's. And you still can't play every Steam game on the Steam Deck. Games like COD 6 Black Ops won't work on the Deck because of Anti Cheat. But great video.

I have the LCD variant good for other games but with AAA games specially the new one I play it mostly on my Rog ally extreme the regular ally sucks don't even buy that.

I got my Steam Deck earlier this month, and have been loving it. Only about 50 hours of gaming so far (35 of which being my first Elden Ring playthrough). The main reason I decided to buy this, over a regular desktop computer, was the simplicity and the console-like experience. I’ve been playing exclusively on PC since around 2011 when I made my Steam account, and while it is my preferred platform for gaming, I’ll admit that I am still utterly clueless when it comes to understanding PC components. I have tried - I have made a legitimate effort - to learn about parts, but I still struggle with it. I still have no idea how the hell you tell the difference between different models, or figuring out how good something is compared to a game’s recommended specs on its store page. That’s why it appealed to me: Valve took all of that hassle away and allowed you to be able to play games on PC like you would a console. The Steam Deck isn’t simply a PC in the shape of a Switch, it is a device built and formatted specifically _for_ video games. And that just works better for me.

I find it hard to blame the Deck hardware when the newest AAA games don't run well. Generally most of the games are unoptimized to begin with and don't run great on full desktop PCs too

I use the steam deck for emulation and game back log, and it is great for that. Getting the min of 2 hrs gameplay makes it simple and easy to use

The problem is, issues with games like cod and the anti cheat. Hopefully something changes soon so it can compete with the Ally

Literally watched a hundred videos trying to decide on not just buying a SD but should it be a steamdeck OLED (money isn’t growing on trees near me), should I buy a used deck off kijiji? And should I finish my switch backlog before even considering the purchase!? Also - with a steam sale likely days away and knowing I’ll be buying a deck (I’m not remotely married to Nintendo) should I create an account and look for sales!?

Sam have you tried Remote Play ? If you have try it, what are your thoughts about it. I have discovered you some days ago and your videos about the steam deck are super useful, thank you very much !!!
