@@crazyguywatchnu I've had it for a month now, and have been spending a LOT more time gaming. I travel a lot, and makes the time on an airplane fly by. :)
Changing performance levels is not something we take lightly and we only want to do it when a significant enough improvement can be achieved. We also don't want increased performance to come at a significant cost to power efficiency and battery life. I don't foresee such a leap being possible in the next couple of years, but we are still closely monitoring innovations in architectures and manufacturing processes to see where this goes. - Pierre-Loup Griffais, Valve Words of November 2023
I find it ridiculous that the steam deck can run shadow of war at 50fps but ps5 backwards compatibility is still locked at 30. One of the negatives about consoles is not being able to change graphical settings.
I say buy one during the discounts where you can get a Deck for $300. When the new onews comes out, sell it or pass it to a family member. $300 isn't a big financial investment for a years worth of gaming, and you can probably get more use out of it after that if you are hand. Low power consumption makes it perfect as a home server for Plex or file/photo backups. There is probably a way to connect it to a TV as a smart box too.
@@DCoop-uo2wq They happen all the time. One just ended a couple days ago, and that one was coming on the heels of the same sale a month before. For anyone still on the fence about buying one of these, do it! I just recently got the LCD 64G, for the asking price it is a steal. I was a little bit skeptical about the device, so I went for the entry model, just to be safe. It was AMAZING. I would recommend a LCD model, let alone the better OLED one.

My man, can we also give a massive round of applause to the steam engineers and developers? I bought my steam deck like a week before the oled came out much to my dismay, but i decided to keep it and upgrade the m2 and joysticks. when I went to play black ops 3, i had an issue with crashing on loading screens. I contacted the support for help or advice. and a week later they pushed an update that fixed it. these people actually listen to their customers and I will sing their praises till the cows come home! Give em an honorable mention in your next video if ya dont mind. +1 subscriber!
And that's for the US. In some places that Valve is not oficially selling (Australia, Brazil, and lots of other countries) and products may take at least 1-2 months to arrive nationally, and at least 6 months to have a reasonable price, might mean that the Steam Deck 2 would be a good purchasing idea only early to mid 2026 - even launching officially in late 2025.
Honestly own 2 decks. I am from USA, work in Vietnam. Bought deck on release USA. Family never mailed it. Vietnam gets them in. Bought one on lazada, new. Works great.
I was also on the fence about buying one 3 months ago but I gotta say, the SD OLED changed everything for me. I barely use my gaming PC and love to tackle a backlog of games I never thought I'd get into. It's perfect for small trips too, as I don't really carry my laptop anymore thanks to the SD. It's essentially the dream gaming console I've been wanting to get since I was a kid.
Now with the White OLED Deck coming out it's definitely safe to say we're waiting a couple years. Hoping I'm able to snag one cause the LCD Deck was already incredible.
Because of what PlayStation did to me charging 700.00 for a PS5 Pro. I decided to get my feet into the PC world with the steam deck I just ordered. I'll just keep the slim and Xbox series X but I'm not giving PlayStation no more money. The OLED looks fantastic ITS $530.00 you can also use your remote play on Xbox and PS5. 90 hrtz on an Oled I can't wait to try it
I'll wait for a new Steam deck, the hardware is pretty dated at this point and given the evolution of current AMD APUs, the jump in performance will probably be massive in the next Steam Deck iteration.
Just bought one while they were on sale. Slapped a 512 SSD and a 256g SD card in, good to go for less than $450 (i had the cards sitting around already haha)
My gaming pc was cutting edge maybe 8 years ago. The Steam Deck today I estimate to be roughly the equivalent in power, but I can play it on the couch or dock it to a monitor/TV. With kids I just don’t feel compelled to go to sit at a desk and game, which is usually away from them all. It feels odd to explain but I just want to be in the same room. My old gaming PC does everything I want it to (modern AAA titles just don’t appeal to me much) so having something equivalent which I can carry everywhere is highly appealing to me. SD OLED is slated to finally arrive in Australia this month, so I’ll be definitely picking one up. Don’t care about any potential future device. SD would fit me perfectly as it is.
Yeah I’m in this boat. My brother bought an LCD at its launch then an OLED last November and has the lcd just lying around. He let me borrow it and I love it, but he wants $500 Canadian for it. I know it’s expensive but he installed a 2TB 2030 drive inside which are about $200 where I live so that justifies the asking price for the most part, but I know when the steam deck 2 comes out I’m gonna want it and will be left with the old LCD. I’m very tempted to just buy it but still on the fence.
Final Fantasy 16, Dragons Dogma 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Baldurs Gate 3 (act iii) are games I’m waiting to play on the next steam deck, loving the OLED Deck and also play the OLED switch
I got my SD almost two years ago, and I absolutely loved it at the time, because it meant I no longer had to lug around a heavy-ass Alienware gaming laptop to play games at work during downtime. It was great, and still is, because I've been slowly chipping away at almost 8 years worth of backlog on Steam alone. I can indeed confirm that playing tripple-a games from a few years ago is great on the SD, while playing new titles is pretty much a bad time now. Getting God of War Ragnarok to run steadily without looking like absolute trash was so bad, I just uninstalled it, and will now be playing it on my gaming rig. The SD just can't run Space Marine 2 without necessary tweeking of the settings; and even then, struggled during parts where activity on-screen got hot & heavy. It's just crazy to see how it's about to be three years since I've had my SD, and it's already old...it's like owning a hampster.
I fooking love my steam deck OLED, the ergonomics are great ( no stupid asymmetric joysticks ) Steam UI, free online, custom controls and steam game sales. As a long time console owner, It converted me to PC. My deck has plenty of life left yet.
considering how shit Xbox and Playstation are now I 100% would recommend anyone whos just getting into gaming or wanting to move from them to buying a steam deck, if you just want a platform to play your games on without worry of being locked into the echo system, especially since the steam deck is practically a handheld PC that you can modify pretty easily if your even just a little tech savvy, then its the way to go honestly, I'm currently thinking about getting one since I'm practically done with Xbox now, I've grown sick of the pay to play online shit they push, not to mention if Steam were to go to shit like I said, you aren't locked to them and have options
If Valve releases SD2. I want them to change as little as possible while improving CPU, GPU and battery. That's all the SD needs. A little bit more power. Also, keep the versatility with repairs. SD repair-ability is top notch. The best in the market!
One thing that hurt Steam Deck was no AI upscaling even though DLSS had existed for over two years. That should change with Deck II. A PSSR/DLSS tech which is upscaling from 480p or whatever, will keep the Deck II relevant for longer than the original.
The 3 expensive things on my wishlist is the Steamdeck, a laptop (not for games) or a new GPU for my computer. If I get a job with long commute the Deck would be my choice as 45min on a train is a good place to relax with a game.
Bought a 512gig refurbished one from Steam a few days ago. While I do play a lot of new titles, I also play a lot of older AAA games from a generation or two ago and indie titles. Waiting for a potential Deck 2 didn't make sense in my case, I just wanted something casual to game on while on the couch or in bed and I can take it with me on trips.
Thanks for the great review. This definitely helps me think about what my usage would be if I got a steam deck. But it would've been nice to note if you enjoyed the steam deck over the ROG Ally X, as in, if you enjoy older triple A games (less demanding games) do you still enjoy steam deck over ROG. Do those less demanding games perform just as well on steam deck than a more "powerful" device. Or does the Steam Deck OS and compatibility to steam overrule the performance
Could you talk about if this would even be usable particularly for women with smaller hands? We’re always overlooked in tech and end up having to buy a worse version of a product to even be able to hold it comfortably
I am looking to maybe get a steam deck and was wondering if you are able to play on the system for a long time without it over heating and breaking it. I’m looking all over the place to see if you NEED to give it breaks or not to cool down. If I do end up getting a steam deck it’s going to docked about 95% of the time and I’m looking to only play old games on it. Such as Witcher 1 enhanced edition and emulating games like Demon Souls from the PS3. Basically wondering if it’s going to be another system like the default Xbox 360 and have a very limited life span.
i have question, How is the battery life in low preset for older games. I'm not concern on the graphics on this handheld but more concern on battery. Can it game on low preset say 6-7hrs? Thanks nice video
I'm hoping the SD2 will have double the power, better battery life, better cooling, and an OLED screen while keeping the same form factor (and still including a carrying case). If it has those things, then I'll probably upgrade, and if I upgrade, that'll probably be my last gaming device for at least 10 years lol.
Hi, I'm glad I found this video because I'm currently buying a Steam Deck LCD 512gb and I was quite worried it wasn't worth it (€300). For playing video games, I just have a little PC for work since many years, and I'm very attached to Steam for having so much indie and not expensive games which allowed me to live a lot of great gaming experiences without having a strong PC. But now that I'm not a student anymore, when I come back home from work I don't have the courage to sit in front of my desk, I just want to fall on the sofa or in my bed, so that's why a "mini PC" like Steam Deck seems to be a good option to keep playing my indie and cozy games! And I also hope I will be able to play to adventure AAA games I bought but weren't able to run correctly on my PC (for example 2022 Marvel's Spiderman, even if I don't have the better graphics I just want to play that very exciting game without all the lags I had to suffer during my PC run). And with the future release of Tales of The Shire, I'm very excited by the idea of playing it chilling on my sofa :) So thank you for this video, I'm gonna follow your future works!
If I care about the steam deck more on the utility aspect, do you think its worth waiting? Im not planning to make it a workstation but to have geforce on and maybe light browsing
I got an asus rog ally og its logical to sell it and buy an steam deck oled just for the oled? Or better use the ally for his superior performance ? First comment🎉
If you play unplugged and play less demanding games, the steam deck is better. Was going to get the ally rog myself but when I saw that performance at lower wattage / in handheld mode was very similar between it and the deck, it was a no brainer for me. If I was buying a handheld that will also double as a PC/will use it docked, then the ally would be the logical choice.
lol this is the exact thing i’ve been wondering about so thanks for making a video addressing it. like im completely sold on the steamdeck but i don’t wanna end up buying it just to have the steamdeck 2 come out like a month later. same thing happened with my ps5 that i bought last year. i bought the original version and the slim got announced just 2 weeks after💀
I got my steamdeck lcd 256 for 550€ during like winter 2023 for my 18th birthday, then in autumn the oled came out, i still love this device but the oled looks so cool
I feel confident that valve will wait longer than a year from now to release the SD2. First, this gives developers time to actually develop games catered to the SD, three years is just barely enough time for a developer to make 1 or maybe 2 games. And i have to assume valve wants to make the second steam deck more than just a more powerful steam deck. The oled added much more than just an oled screen, and i feel they will do this for the second one as well.
When you can buy it, just do it. Is it essential for a pc daily driver? Not really. But it has tons of upsides and is way more portable then your work station. Do remember to factor in the dock and an SSD upgrade in the cost tho... 2tb ssd makes all the difference.
So I’m interested in a steam deck but my question is - would you be able to play World of Warcraft, Call of duty Zombies or any sports game? (I know,it’s a weird mix of games)
Hi guys!!! God bless you!!! I’m a PlayStation OS user for years and have a lot of games on it, but I want to play all video games ever made since the beginning of video games and to play all Switch games, so I am tempted to to buy a Steam deck if it can be play plug in my 4K tv. My only worry is that I don’t know if wait for the second one or if I’ll be good with the on available now!!! I don’t want to buy or build an expensive PC, cause is not my style and I don’t want a monstruos build that make me broke!!😁🤷🏾
If Deck 2 comes out on 2026, wait another 1.5yrs for the OLED version. I was very happy getting my LCD a year after launch, until the OLED came out. Was really pissed with Valve. I could've waited a few more months. Anyhoo, hope they make the next Deck have reasonably beefy internals.
The Steam Deck Oled will definitely be fine for me because I would mainly be playing games from last gen or farther back with the exception being Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. For any modern triple a games, I rather play those games on my PS5. I’m buying a Steam Deck because I want to play the Kingdom Hearts series on the go, especially Kingdom Hearts 3.
idc what the video says the answer is yes get whichever version you can afford (if your even thinking it might be worth the money, it is) i watch these videos because i regret not getting an oled just to save a little bit (edit-def watch this video though he makes some good points and might help you make your decision. but keep my comment in mind)
Me and bro are thinking about getting once since its closer to a console than the other handhelds i seen come out. I wonder if the next steamdeck be affordable as one of reasons thinking about getting it compared to the $600+ handheld pc's i been seeing pop up
Skip the video, if you like indie's and non super graphically demanding games and need or want a small powerful linux pc for around 500$ yes, do it, the deck even emulates switch and ps3 so you won't need to carry multiple devices around, on a buget or just like semi owning your games? the high sea's are there fer plundering as well, I bought mine a few months ago and am loving it, I have a beefier gaming rig for the big AAA titles and I still use my deck everyday.
@sinofpride6486 I haven't tried it but I have installed other windows software on it, just by using the "add non steam game to steam" option, including other launchers, so yes it's doable and easy

Congrats dude, where did you find a deal like that??!!
I would say how tf, but I traded a psvita for the same thing. The vita costed me like 80 dollars.
I have an Xbox SX, PS5, Switch and Steam Deck. The Deck is my favourite device. Absolutely love it.
Get it, enjoy it and whenever the Deck 2 launches, sell your Deck 1 to fund the Deck 2.
Just ordered a 1TB OLED. I travel for work, so this should help me spend some more time gaming.
you made a right choice
Exactly why I bought it. Plus cloud saves
- Pierre-Loup Griffais, Valve

This is what i did, bought the lcd 512 version for $360 after tax on sale, sure it’s not the oled but I can wait until the steam deck 2.
Where are you seeing these sales steam currently selling the lcd 256gb for 400
@@DCoop-uo2wq They happen all the time. One just ended a couple days ago, and that one was coming on the heels of the same sale a month before. I am sure it will show up again soon especially considering the holiday season is here. They also throw up good deals when they get stock on refurbished units.
@@CleanDesign_ honestly I don't even need one my g cloud streams my xbox and Playstation perfectly. But at a less then $300 price for an lcd steam deck can't really pass that up lol
Absolutely loved that message you included at the end about taking in what we have now and living in the moment
I'm waiting for black friday sale
i have a good rig at home (4080/5800x3d/32gb ddr4, playing at 3440x1440p)...and just ordered a 1tb Steam deck, LCD one, ill probably play roguelites/indies on the deck while chilling on the couch with wife (and the baby that is coming in following months)...but, if i need to play space marines, ill just stream it to the deck...
That sounds like a great setup!
It'll come in handy when you're chilling at the Dr's office when you're going to all the appointments associated with a pregnancy
To be honset, i was looking for a video like this which tells me everything warns me about everything its jus everything i need and probably a lot people also think that, your a great guy and i really like your video man, keep what you are doing its really good quality and really nice in every aspect
Thank you so much!! 🥹
It’s not like the LCD and OLED Steam Decks with stop working after the Steam Deck 2 is released.

I just started a replay of Shadow of War a well, it was one of my comfort game during a bad time in my life. Runs amazing on the deck.
ok ok ill buy it, and when the SD2 comes out ill probably buy that and give this one to my son, the new changes to family groups in steam are amazing.
What are the changes?
The OLED looks fantastic ITS $530.00 you can also use your remote play on Xbox and PS5. 90 hrtz on an Oled I can't wait to try it
Just 200 extra and yoy coukd have gotten a ps5 pro, also you could have sold your og ps5
Why wait for steam deck 2 if theres a steamdeck 3
Valve has never had a 3, so the SteamDeck 2 will be the last stop.

finally, an honest steam deck review for 2024. Thank you. I might wait for #2.
Buy it now no question
Thank you! You made a solid point when you said life is short so just enjoy it now and you could always sell it when the Steam Deck 2 is released.
Yeah, that's my philosophy! Enjoy the tech when it's out.
Final Fantasy 16, Dragons Dogma 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Baldurs Gate 3 (act iii) are games I’m waiting to play on the next steam deck, loving the OLED Deck and also play the OLED switch
I just ordered my first regular steam deck. Cant wait for it to arrive in a few days.
Thank you for the good info, and for not putting blue and pink LEDs in the bg!
One of my favorite steam deck oled teachers!.. thanks bro👍
Great video and message at the end man! Good reminder
Appreciate it!
I just upgraded to the OLED from the LCD. Worth it!!
considering how shit Xbox and Playstation are now I 100% would recommend anyone whos just getting into gaming or wanting to move from them to buying a steam deck, if you just want a platform to play your games on without worry of being locked into the echo system, especially since the steam deck is practically a handheld PC that you can modify pretty easily if your even just a little tech savvy, then its the way to go honestly, I'm currently thinking about getting one since I'm practically done with Xbox now, I've grown sick of the pay to play online shit they push, not to mention if Steam were to go to shit like I said, you aren't locked to them and have options
If Valve releases SD2. I want them to change as little as possible while improving CPU, GPU and battery. That's all the SD needs. A little bit more power.
Also, keep the versatility with repairs. SD repair-ability is top notch. The best in the market!
super useful insight, ty for keeping it simple lol :)
One thing that hurt Steam Deck was no AI upscaling even though DLSS had existed for over two years. That should change with Deck II. A PSSR/DLSS tech which is upscaling from 480p or whatever, will keep the Deck II relevant for longer than the original.
I'm about to go on vacation for a couple weeks and considering buying one just for that lol Appreciate the vid
Nice video bud, just subscribed good content
Thanks for the sub!
He just told me he was happy I was apart of this world. I will now subscribe
The 3 expensive things on my wishlist is the Steamdeck, a laptop (not for games) or a new GPU for my computer.
If I get a job with long commute the Deck would be my choice as 45min on a train is a good place to relax with a game.
Ngl even when the 2 comes out imma hold onto this one. I don't play anything crazy enough to require anything more.
I’m waiting! Love me some delayed gratification! Love having something to look forward to ❤
9:30 only has girl friends GIGACHAD
It shouldn't overheat, you can get a cooling stand if you're worried, but I think you'll be good without it!
I sold my SD, because I did not enjoy playing on it, but with OLED screen, that could be a game changer.
i have question, How is the battery life in low preset for older games.
Good vid, glad to hear from a fellow enjoyer of the more "cinematic" framerates
watching a movie ;)
I'm just waiting because my steam deck Oled is on the route for me... Good that I didn't waste my money!
And with the future release of Tales of The Shire, I'm very excited by the idea of playing it chilling on my sofa :)
So thank you for this video, I'm gonna follow your future works!
There's a massive difference between AAA story-driven games in AAA multiplayer games obviously the latter is going to be harder to run
which is the game you play at 08:33? the top-down isometric one?
soulstone survivor :)
First comment🎉
depends entirely on what you value, if you want the performance keep it, if you dont need the power and want the nicer screen, OLED all day
The ally has twice the power of the oled steamdeck I have both ayaneo geek 1s and stramdeck and I use steam deck to run easy games
Thank you BTW .. hope your channel grows for honest opinion
I appreciate that!
Grabbed a 256 lcd for 200 mint condition. Cant complain!
lol this is the exact thing i’ve been wondering about so thanks for making a video addressing it. like im completely sold on the steamdeck but i don’t wanna end up buying it just to have the steamdeck 2 come out like a month later. same thing happened with my ps5 that i bought last year. i bought the original version and the slim got announced just 2 weeks after💀
Glad I could help!
(I know,it’s a weird mix of games)
yep! i play nazi zombies all the time on mine, but for specific games compatibility check out proton DB
Got the oled yesterday it’s
PERFECTION
for games I play at least
Apex
GTA
Cyberpunk don’t look 3 bad either 😊
Playing games from around 2020 and earlier on the steam deck is an awesome experience. Also JRPGs like Yakuza: like a dragon
I’m new. Is it worth it? Thanks. 😊
Very!
Buying the oled is the best option go with what’s affordable to you as the consumer that’s just my advice
I'm actually planning to buy it sometime in November. Is there a better alternative?
idc what the video says the answer is yes get whichever version you can afford (if your even thinking it might be worth the money, it is) i watch these videos because i regret not getting an oled just to save a little bit (edit-def watch this video though he makes some good points and might help you make your decision. but keep my comment in mind)
do you edit your own videos, amazing!
I do! thank you :)
Yes, just got mine it’s awesome
Me and bro are thinking about getting once since its closer to a console than the other handhelds i seen come out. I wonder if the next steamdeck be affordable as one of reasons thinking about getting it compared to the $600+ handheld pc's i been seeing pop up
I really love your videos about the steamdeck ❤
Glad you like them!
Skip the video, if you like indie's and non super graphically demanding games and need or want a small powerful linux pc for around 500$ yes, do it, the deck even emulates switch and ps3 so you won't need to carry multiple devices around, on a buget or just like semi owning your games? the high sea's are there fer plundering as well, I bought mine a few months ago and am loving it, I have a beefier gaming rig for the big AAA titles and I still use my deck everyday.
just kidding about skipping the video, like and sub future fellow deckers!
@@moose101woods7 wait you can sail the seas on the steam deck?
I think this comment answers most of my questions. Thanks.
@sinofpride6486 I haven't tried it but I have installed other windows software on it, just by using the "add non steam game to steam" option, including other launchers, so yes it's doable and easy
Have you seen the games that have come out recently? Buy the deck. You won't miss the new games.
No cap. Only new game I have bought in the past 3 years has been Sparking Zero
@@snowman1886 I've been playing witcher 3, Doom eternal, xcom 2. Tears of the kingdom is the only game I've bought in the past year and it has been throughly disappointing. I was one of those people who would wait for games. Not anymore. It has been liberating. You guys play it. Tell me if it is any good. Then I'll think about buying.
Loving my OLED, I’m hoping for a Steam Deck 2 with more power, but I too don’t think it’ll be end of 2025 or 2026, Valve said they want a true generational leap before making another deck.
I have like 100 older games I still want to play so my Oled will be used until it falls apart. Depending on how good the steam deck 2 is I will buy it as well to play the next AAA games smoothly.😊
