I'm good with my LCD Steam Deck, but when the SD2 releases I'm on it day one.
If I would have had the lcd deck I wouldn't bother upgrading either. I would however be frustrated that I didn't have the OLED one. Sucks that valve doesn't sell a OLED upgrade panel for the og steamdeck.
@@randybobandy9828yea im kinda like that as well when I had the v2 switch I for some reason had a itch to buy the oled n i have the lcd og switch but once again kinda have the itch for the oled one

Word. If my current SD breaks then I'd obviously buy the oled but fn I'm good!
I had the lcd and upgraded to oled very happy i did its really good
Thanks! I was on the fence about getting one but now i definitely will! Subscribed! Good work man!
The Oled is a great revision but happy with my LCD for now. Hoping for some new colourways when i do update as the limited edition looks awesome.
I have the special edition oled and it was soooo worth it
@@omnicognatesnr5947i use AirPods Max with my Deck for sound quality especially with the noise cancellation. I would have upgraded had the L.E been available in the UK but it wasn’t, so I didn’t. Happy you’re enjoying yours though.😊

You could have done just fine without it for sure
I'll be on it soon. OLED looks great , I MUST HAVE IT😮
I got both LCD and OLED versions.
Steam Deck 2 is also a day 1 purchase for me.
I subscribed to your channel yesterday and I must say your videos are so stunning you are really good at this video editing thing , the quality of your shots are top tier , keep up the good work and also I'm saving up to get the steam deck oled cus If I get the ps5 ill need to get a TV or monitor which I don't have the money for right now lol
Aye!! A new video. The picture quality is amazing. Love the shirt. ✈
On the fence about getting OLEDSD but ended up deciding if i can afford to get it before SD2 then i will. Partially bc bigger screen/oled/battery ect., but also partially bc i would like to support Valve and everything they're doing for the handheld industrustry.
it will be a while for them to release SD2, they said the tech doesn't exist yet, to release a handheld device with a significant increase in performance is not yet possible that's what they said, i mean look at ninteno switch even they have not yet release new nintendo for a long ass time, beside these valve they are sneaky they purposely release LCD first knowing they can just start with OLED anyway, thye are making people buy steam deck twice haha with no trade in option.
10:00 what everyone is here for, the discussion about etched vs glossy oled display
I bought the OLED fairly soon after release and oh my... It's a daily driver for me. I play the Deck for at least half an hour every day on commutes, breaks or at home.
At home it makes for a far more relaxed and social gaming experience, being in the living room laying on the couch playing games while not being totally removed up in my room on my PC.
I'm an emulation geek too, and it plays pretty much everything I want from my retro library and even a few PS3 games. Plus with some proton tinkering and fine tuning with Lutris, getting older non-steam PC games working is fairly easy and insanely smooth to play. Hell, I've been playing Spider-Man 3, a pretty bad game but I have insane nostalgia for it, and the PC version on the Deck plays as perfectly as you can get for that game, and the only issues I have with it are bugs with the port, the Deck just plays everything I want exactly how I want. I'm not a visuals gal, I can take a hit to graphics if I get better performance, and the more modern titles I have still work phenomenally. Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales (another Spider-Man game, shocker) are fantastic at 30fps, the same frame rate as the PS4 originals so it doesn't bother me.
The Steam Deck isn't perfect, but for me it is. The battery lasts longer than I'd ever need in one session, the screen is drop dead gorgeous, the games I can play on it still blows my mind, the availability of replacement parts warms my heart for my right to repair mentality, I could go on and on. Valve made a phenomenal console here, and even though Linux compatibility with Windows games isn't perfect, it's getting there, and I'd rather have a Linux based device that's cheaper and plays almost everything I want, than a Windows device like the ROG Ally that may be better, but is either way more expensive or doesn't have enough battery life to last the longer play sessions I may have.
I haven't touched any of my other handhelds since I got the Deck, my Vita, PSP and 3DS are weeping in the corner gathering dust as I play the Steam Deck every day, and I've only played on my PC 3 times in the last 2-3 months. For me, the Steam Deck is a dream come true. True portability of games I could only ever dream of playing away from home. Like seriously, we have some PS5 level games that you can play literally ANYWHERE with no internet connection to bog you down, that just blows my mind. I could be in the middle of nowhere on a camping trip and still be able to play God of War or Spider-Man Miles Morales, granted I bring a few battery banks with me for charging, but I could do it, and I WILL do it some point soon ish, maybe in the summer, actually a fun idea now I think about it
Going to buy a steam deck LCD soon. Yes I would like the OLED model but I'm sure the original will be fine for me. I'm interested in using mine for retro games so should be brilliant.
The best upgrade and best piece of gaming tech I ever bought
Great video, I love how thorough you are with your opinions. I do have a couple of things I think could help you. I noticed you changed your "set", try lower your light source or moving it back so you don't get those shadows under your eyes. A ring light around your camera could help too, just something to put a little more direct light on your face. Also, could you list the games you're playing in your videos? I'm interested in checking some of them out, but I don't know what they are. Other than that you're great man. Keep up the awesome work.
thanks for the video! small feedback! if you could put up the names of the games you're showing off in all the game-plays at the corner or something, would be great! thanks for all the quality production work!

I bought the oled 1 month ago, since then I stopped using my desktop PC . IT. IS. AWESOME. And I'm not into mobile gaming... It's just so comfy and almost everything can run on it
I bought mine also a month ago. I have a few system to play on ps3, ps4, ps5, XSX. I also have a 7 year old laptop with gtx970m.
I’m impressed. I do not mind tinkering. I was about to buy a new laptop but the prices for top ones are ridiculous (not to mention the one I looked at was like 3kg + 1kg power brick). So I decided to buy steam deck with intention of using it as a Linux PC when docked and play a bit in the evenings in bed. I do not mind tinkering. Steam Deck allow me to discover and have fun with games from my backlog. It also works for me as a PC, and all this for a fraction of the price of the laptop I was planning to buy.
Sure Steam Deck is a low power device and has its limitations but to me it is a great device.
can it run helldivers 2
I'm continuously impressed with Valve as a company, they really are the benchmark when it comes to hardware, software, and video games. They know and listen to the community as well. And they aren't some overprotective helicopter parent like a Nintendo or Microsoft, Valve will go "hey we really, really don't think you should be doing this, but here are the tools to do it." They can put out an already terrific handheld and then optimize to one of the greatest handhelds of all time, all without making the owners of the original LCD feel cheated.
It perfectly straddles the line between PC gaming and console. People without PC gaming experience can pick up a SD and just play it and tech savvy folks can do even more with it. And they don't wall you in like Apple. They'll not only let you add non-Steam games, they've all but allowed you to play some of those hot games online with Steam, seemingly antithetical to their biggest money maker. I've basically made my SD a Nintendo Switch that plays all of Nintendo's catalog. The Switch is Nintendo's current gen flagship. That says something about your company's consumer-friendliness if people are buying another company's handheld to emulate your games with EmuDeck instead of playing it natively on your handheld.
Oh and Valve's haptics and buttons are best in the business. I hope they release a Steam Deck controller, everything but the screen, so I can ditch my dualsense.
But they go no physical games. 👶🏽🥺
@@aarongarcia5667I guess my Half Life Antology doesn't exist then, or Orange Box.
"hey we really, really don't think you should be doing this, but here are the tools to do it." It's called Linux mate - I moved away from the spyware of all spywares after '98. Linux lets you do things that would blow your mind as a handcuffed, spyware infested, bloated mess known as windoze. Not to mention the M$ cpu scheduler is an absolute joke - there is a reason every supercomputer runs Linux, and M$ themselves now run Linux after a decades of saying they will only run their own software ('eat their own dogfood' in programmer parlance).
I love the oled glad i upgraded
If you wanted to add maybe a little bit of numbers into the video, to test wifi 6e, you could have downloaded a game like Cyberpunk on the lcd and oled and show the difference in speed in real world scenario.
Also the standby issue, you could have charged the devices at 100%, launched a game, put the devices on sleep and in 24/48h you could have seen the different battery % between the two, to confirm your findings.
Professional yapper
Wouldn’t really work well since he’d be downloading likely on the same wifi slowling one of devices down in speeds although he probably has good net so
What is the face plate you use (jsaux?) and what about the red thumb sticks? It looks so good!
Unless that’s just the default look? 😅
Ok, after some digging, I realize it’s the Limited Edition. Nice!
Valve was smart! You can't up the resolution, other wise... The battery gets the biggest hits. On a handheld, battery is everything. That's what the other companies don't get. I love gaming on the 800p deck :)
You're the first video I watched that talks about the higher battery drain during sleep, thanks for pointing that out!
Turn off Bluetooth?
@@mechanicalmonk2020 Didn't have to do that previously with the LCD model, he might be right that this is about the new Bluetooth feature on the OLED model though.
I’ve not owned a steam deck before so the oled will be my first I’m quite excited to get my hands on it finally
Curious what that fighting game is in the beginning ?
Hey bro Great video like always 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Correction: Price is not same, they reduced the price.
Still on the fence about getting this. I could afford to wait and let my backlog sit and just get the sd2 at release.
I got the 399 lcd deck 64gb with a swapped ssd. I really wanted the oled for the colors and new shell. Ultimately went after a Rog Ally for a 2nd and haven't looked at my deck in a while. Some of the survivor games I play drop fps pretty low on deck
does anyone know what steam deck shell he has with the red thumbsticks? It looks insane!
I've just bought one because I travel a lot and hope the OLED display means I can actually see something in bright light situations compared to my LCD one. Will find out in a few days...
damn i was ready to pull the trigger for that translucent oled deck but the resale is thru the roof
About to buy mine. I sold my Rog ally and legion go.i got my Xbox for gamepass games and steam deck im gonna use emulations/indie games .main reason im getting it is because of oled.i got Samsung qled tv and it makes huge difference playing on it instead of normal gaming monitor
What was the space game?
Bought a PS5 Portal so my Oled Switch and accessories, games are not needed. Traded in today towards a 1tb Steam deck oled. Cannot wait as the Oled screen on the Switch is excellent.
So there is still a chance for Thumb stick drift ?
Also a bit concerned about the dead pixels and headphone jack issues. Are the new batch of steam decks have less issues that i mentioned ?
Yep, still chance for drift, and everything else you said. I play mine docked with an Xbox controller so I basically use it as a junior PC, and avoid ruining the sticks. Useless if you want to play in bed though lol
@baconatorrodriguez4651 appreciate the reply. A new concern came to my attention on the burn in screen for the SD oled 😅.
The more I'm looking forward to buying it, the more of the problems are coming up.

The entire experience of using it just top notch. Can’t wait for the SD2 in some years but I’ll be happily using this in the mean time

When the LCD Steam Deck came out, a friend of mine immediately bought one. When I touched it for the first time, I did not like it at all. It felt kind of cheap, unstable and the screen was mediocre. I always wanted a solid handheld since I adore handheld gaming (PSP/PSvita - thank you).
When the OLED version came out - this was a total game changer. It feels just right. With a friend of mine, we compared our decks and OLED feels like finished product. Still, it LCD version is a great device, but until you touch the OLED one. I would even recommend to sell your LCD version and buy the OLED one if you have the opportunity.
AND if you still think, do you need Steam Deck at all, I had the same thoughts, and here is my use case:
I have solid PC, 2 XBOX Series S and Playstation Vita. The second XBOX was bought for my girlfriend so we could play together, but after that we bought ourselves PC's. I spend a lot of time at my desk during work and sometimes even if I want to play, I am simply too overwhelmed and just want to sit somewhere else.
I started to play games and enjoy them even more after I got my Steam Deck OLED!
Compared ya decks huh 😆😆😆

The Steam Deck OLED is amazing! Been playing Helldivers 2!
Just bought a Switch OLED a few weeks ago.... Now I'm hearing about switch 2 possibly coming out this year, can't decide if i should wait for it or just get a steam deck OLED and emulate Nintendo games??
Steam deck and emulate. Unfortunately Nintendo might mess it up
The switch 2 will charge you more money for a smaller library of games while giving you none of the steam deck's customization options, repairability, ability to act as a computer, etc. etc - nintendo doesn't respect their users, valve does.
can it run helldivers?
1:12 what game is that? Is it Sifu or another fighting game?
It's Sifu
An easy 90% of people will be happier with the etched OLED than with the glossy version. So many people smack a diffusing screen protector on their phone and are happyer than ever, because reflections are way more problematic than a tiny bit of color diffusion.
My question is, will this be the template Valve will build a SD2 on? Sure, we might see a 900p screen instead of 800p with a new SoC, but what else? Will the shape change? More mappable buttons? Most things seem to be upgradable without even touching the shell, like they hav e shown with the OLED, ut will people cry about it like they cry about Smartphone and linking new/better to a new exterior design?
A slightly bigger screen on the steamdeck alongside increased resolution seems accurate as long as they change the internal hardware.
But this mean they will very likely go arm in the release of steamdeck 2, snapdragon x elite is now a thing, meaning desktop support for arm will be increased considerably, wine also added support for arm in the past year so the software is catching up to the platform, give it a couple of years for the support to increase and we'll have extended battery life, a more powerful cpu, a bigger screen, native wine support so games don't get finnicky.
I just wonder if it'll be a 4nm cpu or 3nm and how it'll work with steam deck features (fsr for example), it will probably be 4nm considering Valve doesn't care about the absolute latest hardware.
1:15 what game is this?
Waiting for steamdeck 2. Hope it will release as oled.
Don’t forget the if you can’t afford this but you look into a lot of handhelds, the standard 256gb steam deck is very reasonable at just over $300. Yes that’s a lot but it’s on par with what some android emulator cost.
pretty cool

That dead pixel tho. 😑 Top, towards the middle right of your screen.

It’s a cool device, but between the bad mura effect on the Samsung panel that is very noticeable in low light conditions, buzzing 3.5mm headphone jack and a left speaker that creates horrible distortion at certain frequencies even at low volume levels, I decided to return it for a full refund. If it was just the mura or 3.5mm jack, I could probably live with it, but 3 issues is a bit too much. I’ll wait to see if there’s a revision with an improved or better calibrated panel and in the meanwhile I’ll give the Legion Go a try since it might be a better fit for my use case scenario (SD display is just at the limit of what my old eyes can handle). I know the Go comes with its own set of issues, but if the pros outweighs the cons, I might be willing to work around them. Time will tell.
You're gonna end up returning that as well.
@@podkse There’s a high probability of that. There’s an online retailer in my country that has a very good return policy. Free shipping and free return, so there’s no real downside to trying. They don’t have any units in stock right now, but there’s a shipment coming in February. That means there’s a chance it could be the revised model that fixes some of the current issues, such as excessive fan whine. I’m not afraid of the whole Windows thing since I run a simrig with a ton of specialized hard and software. I’m used to having to jump through hoops and spend days or weeks trying to wrangle everything into submission using Windows hacks and 3rd party programs. It’s more things like build quality and general hardware jank that worries me. My thought is that if I don’t try it, I’ll constantly wonder if it would have been better for my use case scenario than the Steam Deck. If I try it and I realize it’s not going to work, then I know it’s just a case of waiting for Valve to improve on the SD. The Ally and Claw is of no use to me because they lack trackpads and I have zero desire to import something like an AyaNeo to Europe. Too much hassle, especially if there’s an issue with it. So it’s really just a choice between nothing, the SD or the Go.
@christiannielsen8733 I'm intrigued by the claw, because it has potential to outperform the z1 extreme. (Big maybe) along with good battery life. You are correct in your last sentence tho 👍
What do you guys think about the Ally Z1 at $399 on sale at Bestbuy? Would your rather buy the base 256GB LCD SteamDeck?
Asus is for software engineers, the tinkering to get 60 mins of playtime for like 10 fps more is just ridiculous. Buy a steam deck and be happy without the headache....

I recommend the gpd win mini if you have the money, better performance and better operating system and design. Way easier to pirate too and emulate.
*I have both
Windows is definitely not a better operating system for a handheld. Had the win 3 before the steam deck, windows felt more like a workaround compared to steamos which is made for button controls. I think the design is awesome though. Clanshells are sick
@@christianr.5868 It's preference I guess, I hated steam os it was so janky to try and get wow private servers to work on it or other non steam games/ pirated, adding mods was also a bad experience. Can't remember the name but you needed a program to transfer files from windows to linux, through your wifi which was an annoying workaround (maybe they fixed it i dunno).
If you are are just using steam and gonna play vanilla I think the steamdeck is a better choice for the money and ease of use. but any tinkering is a bad experience imo.
