I am watching this because I got my hands on anesthesia for betta fish. Specifically to drain fluid when fish has dropsy. At what stage can I insert my needle to do this?
I love you thank u for this video, Im doing an experiment with clove oil as an anesthetic on fish and this helped me so much. I waa able to sense when the fish were in each stage, ur a blessing to STEM world Fish Doctor
The Fish Doctor thank you for the reply. I was wondering if you could do a video or suggest a euthanasia method for the home aquarist? I've been using clove oil and a shot of ethyl alcohol (after the fish is sedated with the clove oil) for the occasional fish that I cannot bring back to health. Are there other methods that you would consider more humane/ faster/ etc? thanks for your time. Your videos are really informative.
Dr. Loh, at 0:30 you said that the rate for MS222 should be 100mg/L. Did you mean dose? How fast should one does MS222? Just pour the medication or over 1min, 5min? Also what buffer are you adding to MS222? Sodium bicarbonate? Thank you for all you do on TH-cam!
Occasional Aquatics 100mg/L is the concentration of MS222 in the anaesthetic bath that's prepared prior to immersing fish in it. yes sodium bicarbonate as a buffer.
Hi Fish Doctor, We know this is a old video, but still if you could spare time to read and give us suggestions it would be better. We have transported fish for 4 - 6 days in bag sealed with oxygen. But we would like to know will the sedation improve the timeline or make it worse? As we would like to reduce the ammonia production and Oxygen consumption in the bag... Which could give us more time to ship the fish on Transit level. If you require more detail on our water preparation. Please let us know. We could share it to you in Email. And would also help us, if you could give us more information over this. Thank you Avreus Aquatics
I need to sedate a Betta for a tumor removal but I do not have access to MS-222. My only option is clove oil, but I am conflicted on the amount to use because most of the information out there is found only on message forums and half the time people don't know what the hell they're talking about. I want to be very precise because one drop too many could euthanize the fish.
Clove oil is not recommended for veterinary use any more, but probably the only thing you can easily get as a lay person. Then again you should check it's legal for you to do what you want to do with the fish under sedation. For euthanasia in small tropical fish, in my opinion, an ice bath is preferable, because it is quicker and probably less painful.
Please check out the king of DIY's new video , his asian arowana has had a bad accident. Mabye you could offer some advice on how to treat his injury, thank you.
Fish Doctor Why there are no videos to treat saltwater fish ? Do you know who does such videos Maybe you have a friend or acquaintance that does If so I would love to know , Thanks
What I wanted to say is That a lot of people were happy That a man like you Fish vet and not just an amateur Gives advice It's just something to think about There are no fish veterinarians Who makes videos Certainly not saltwater fish , If you take that piece You are the first And of course the only one , Hope you think about it ,thanks

My Betta fish has tuberculosis and his back is completely bent and he has refused to eat for a week ... do you think it’d be better to just euthanize him with clove oil or wait it out, I’ve tried salt baths but not much luck
I'm sorry your fish has this incurable condition. Please watch this video about fish TB, and you can decide then - th-cam.com/video/RW_U4tvtO5k/w-d-xo.html
Ihave a 2 foot a silver arowana who has drop eye syndrome or droop eye and both of his eyes are starting to pop out it has gone out like a quarter of a 360 degree angle and the fish is looking down there are no vets in my country and I need advice to help my fish I will let him live a full life I need advice doctor
Bros 4Lyfe Okay, take him to a vet whom specializes in fish or a fish store that is just about fish to get help. Don't go to a pet store, the crappy treatments they give you don't work. I've lost 1 fish and about to loose another due to it
hi, u should do a video teaching how to euthanize a fish (humanly), i had that problem now and use clove oil, but dont know if thats the better way.......
URGENT QUESTION!!! This is not related to your video but I have a 20 gallon plated community tank. In it live 5 glowlight tetras and 5 Pygmy corydoras. Because it is so heavily planted I only do water changes every few months and I've never had problems. I've been away for 2 weeks and I came back to find one of my glowlights was bleeding from both its finns and it also looks like blood is under her skin. I've diagnosed it with septicemia but I'm not sure how to treat it. Online I've found people who say either that it is not curable or that I should use antibiotics straight away. But if she is dieing then I do not want to expose her to that stress for no reason in her last days. I have currently moved her into my 40 gallon which is also a community planted tank with 7 guppies and a female kribensis. My kribensis has a fungal infection so I've added salt and turned on the heater in this tank. I've moved my glowlight into this tank so that I could treat both fish at the same time since I only have one heater at the moment. What do you advise I should do now? Btw awesome video I'm a big fan! Also, I would really apreciate your advice as there is not one single experienced fish vet where I live.
Sir my guppies or dying step by step and their body shakes when they swimming & they standing corner of the tank I use aquarium salt also but it's doesn't work please guide me sir
I know your are busy person but are you able to offer some advice to L.R.Bretz over in America. He has a channel on TH-cam and a really nice guy but some disease is attacking his fish
Probably too late, but: No, absolutely not. At least not for sedation and anesthesia. For Euthanasia in very small, tropical fish, it may be ok. But keep in ice bath for 10-20 minutes, otherwise the effect may be reversible.
I need help. my gold fish has a infection where it has a popped out white stuff and red around and honestly idk what to do to help. its not a circle it on the head but with lines on the top not on the edge of my fish head
hlo sir. I need ur help plz help me. I have one silver 7 inch arowana and my arowana stop eating form last 6 days. I change 50% water and use some salt but no result. I give him livefish , shrimp but no eating. what can I do now plz tell ...
I know you're busy, but if you could reach out to Joey Mullen about his Asian Arrowana. His fish suffered some sort of trauma and he could definitely use your help.
Hi Dr one of my fish is spinning out of control and not eating I believe it is whirling disease but I'm not sure. I would like if you made a video to fix the whirling disease. 🙏
Hello fish doc what is the best medicine for gill flukes...also I'm not for sure of diagnosis, the reason I suspect gill flukes is because on one side of the fish gills there's a small gap visible, also signs of slowed growth on the one side of it's face, almost looks like fish had a stroke, I gave treatments of prazipro I'm not sure it worked but it doesn't seem to have gotten better...I'm afraid I'm going to have to euthanize the fish before long. He's a beautiful specimen hate to see him go. Please someone help 🐟 S.O.S
Great job explaining how the five stages of fish anaesthesia work. . . Thanks for sharing ! ! !
It was nice of the fish to wake up perfectly from the front of the lineup to back for you.
Yes, they were trained well :)
Goes to show that each fish is an individual, including when it comes to response to anaesthesia.
Very good demonstration of the stages of anesthesia in fish. Thanks for sharing Dr. Loh

Doc, have you used clove oil for anesthesia before?
Eric K yes, found the induction unpredictable, and the recovery can be prolonged.

Yeah I wonder about that too, what a fishy doctor.
HI Doc.. Love the video.. very nicely explained.. =D

Very good.

Fasting fish for a day, and use of sedatives will improve transportation.

hi, u should do a video teaching how to euthanize a fish (humanly), i had that problem now and use clove oil, but dont know if thats the better way.......
Isn't that stressfull for them at first? Like they don't know what's happening to them
Kate Austen probably not. i would think their heart rate slowing down would prevent them from real stress
Kate Austen better to freak out than die via illness or infection
That's for sure, I just wanted to know if it wasn't too stressfull :)
It would be like being knocked out for surgery...they probably wouldnt figure it out,and just go unconscious
@@dnglarping Well...Youd be wrong then
