Goldfish surgery removing lump growth and how to make a fish band aid

  • Dr Loh removes a lump from this goldfish and explains why its important to try to remove them early before they grow too large, and he shows you how to make a fish band aid to help prevent infections. Lumps that are left on goldfish can continue to grow to larger size and become more vascularised, meaning that it can be more difficult or even impossible to stop bleeding if you try to remove lumps after they have been left to grow too large.

    Stumbled upon your channel through the goldfish eye removal vid. Subscribed the second that vid was over. This is a really awesome channel. You don't really ever see a vet that takes care of fish. Good on you man. I have a needlenosed "gar" in my aquarium named Gilly Nelson. It's technically not a true gar but a fresh water needle fish. Since they (gar and the needle nosed "gar") live in the same environment they have evolved very similar camouflage colors. I love my needle nose, it's so cool watching him hunt minnows. Love your channel, Keep up the awesome work.

      I think that the type of skin that is on a tumor is susceptible to infection, you might want to keep your tank as clean as you can and maybe add a little salt to your water. This is just a thought, maybe do some research!

    I'm so happy to come across your video. Up until now, I was so worried about my goldfish. I had now idea what was worng with it. Somthing is growing out of him and it keeps getting worst. So I Google it, still not knowing exactly what to look for or how to word it. Finally, he has what it seems to be an anchor worm. How can i really get rid of it? And can this infect my other fish? I would really appreciate your help, thanks.

    I have a smallish goldfish, about 5CM long. She had what i suspect to be a tumour growing in her abdomen, which is pushing out both sides. She isn't eggbound as I've been trying to manually express her for a week now and it hasn't moved nor changed.
    I live in Perth, and was wondering if it would be worth calling yourself out to do this if the tumour is indeed right in the middle of her abdomen? What would the survival rate be, or would she survive a surgery to that depth?

    My blood parrot has a huge growth on her side that developed over the past two weeks. She is about 7 inches long but the lump is about 1.5 inches and there is also a smaller one under it about 1 cm. It seems to be growing from the inside (doesnt look like the one in this video). Any thoughts on what it could be or what I can do about it? It looks almost as if removing it would be impossible.

    Awsome video, I have a strange question, a while ago my fish bred and one of the females in the tank lost a fair few scales, after which she has started to develop a lump that looks like a tumour exactly where she lost her scales, the lump seems to be decreasing in size towards the tail but also seems to be protruding further out as it seemingly shrinks, which has been a slow process is it possible that she has scales growing under her skin? I don't think it is a tumour, as a tumour would surely grow and she doesn't appear bothered by it, scales have pushed through and grown back over the lump so I am not sure what it is

Looking for it for a totally different reason. brand aside that tool must have a real name other then the cool name you've given it for vet reasons. but being a fish keeper never know if i'd need something like to hand one day for a reason like this. But still could use one for my model making and painting.

      The Fish Doctor, Thank you for your reply. I live in a fairly remote area, so that may not be possible for me. What is the most humane way to euthanize a pet fish when needed? My goldfish are larger than your Bruce, and I hate the thought of euthaizing them as a fish caught in the wild for food. If I cannot remove these tumors myself I may need to euthanize this fish.

    • @Obliv69
      @Obliv69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      clove oil is the most humane way to euthanize a fish.
      a quick google search will show many links explaining it, but basically you put X amount drops of clove oil into a very small amount of lukewarm water, and shake vigorously so the water turns cloudy (you are trying to mix oil and water)
      then adding the clove oil mix to a bucket with just enough water to cover the fish.
      the fish will become unconcious within a very short time (belly up) then after a while it will pass away.

      Earlier intervention usually results in better success, and how soon to act will depend on how quickly the tumour grows. Quite often, tumours are slow growing. On the positive side of things, skin tumours of fish tend to be benign and don't (or rarely) metastasise (spread) - though they can be locally invasive.
