Bad advice leads to fish pond deaths, treating fish lice, birds bring parasites to pond

A caring fish pond owner called in fish Doctor Loh for help after he was given some incorrect advise by a local pet store which led to some health issues for his fish. Dr Loh discovers a parasite and a nutritional deficiency negatively effecting the fish. Fish lice are easily diagnosed with the naked-eye. They are disc-shaped fish parasites that cause such extreme irritation that they flash and even jump out of the water in attempts to dislodge them. Fish with heavy parasitic infestations will die. It is important to treat them early, and choice of medicine will be determined by several factors which is explained in the video.

Sorry love your videos.. got a family member a vet not quite ready to cover fish ( a exotics vet otherwise her practice is super busy with other species) but had the pleasure of meeting a vet who did train with you.. and hope as someone working In the pet trade use their knowledge. Sadly in the US fish vets are not used too much . Heck even had problems finding them a few years ago.. universities could not help with owners wanting help with valued fish.

The owner was given a medicine with formalin by the shop previously that didn't work for this, and that's when he called me for help. You can get the medicines from your veterinarian. In Australia, my representatives are in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. Can we help you from these locations?

Hi I'm new to keeping pond fish and have a mix of gd fish and koi, I had a algae bloom and was told to put barley straw in to kill this. I did this but then started loosing fish, was advised to do a big water change which I did I've tested the water 3 times over the last 2 week and all seems fine but the fish don't seem to be eating and very illusive and 2 more seem to be swimming different. I have looked at them and found a couple have tail damage.. any ideas?

I caught a large bass in my 3 acre pond 2 days ago with these disk like parasites.
It's the first time ive noticed an issue with any of the fish ive caught.
Can a natural pond be treated?
Yes, a natural pond can be treated, but the challenge is to get good distribution of the medicine.

A pond that's 6000 liters... I'm still trying to convince my parents that 200 liters is too small for comet goldfish 😂 (I won't let them get Goldie's for it if that's the size they go for don't worry)
Did the lice cause the pale gills? Will their gills go back to a normal color after getting rid of the parasites?
Yes, after removing parasites and with good nutritional support, these fish will return to full health.

Are these parasites a risk to aquarium fish from wild caught fish like rainbow fish
A standard quarantine time should sort out that issue.
@@wonderwend1 If one is catching wild or feral species and then mixing them with domestic/tank-raised species, perhaps no less than 30 consecutive days in quarantine should be applied. I do that much time even with store-bought species.
How many grams for 100 gallons of aquarium
1890g in 100gal (US) would be equivalent to 5g/L.
Diflu benzuron is not available in North East India ..Doctor can you please suggest an alternative medicine for treatment of argulus in large water bodies.
Check with your veterinarian for what's available in your locality.

How to treat that koi
Start with testing all of your water parameters. Inspect the fish visually for anything out of the norm - state of mucus coat, any swollen or red parts of the skin or anything irregular
You could add in a skin scrape if you have a microscope or know someone who does.
@@baphometslayer I have 3 gold & 4 koi. All are 9 months old. All water parameter are normal.
Sick koi is one of them. All remaining fish are good.
I am treating that koi in quarantine tank. Now, after visual inspection I see , redness on gills (near head) from outside..look like blood patches. & Dull body color. Hiding behind spong filter, scared if someone present near tank & swim & hide again. Deep breathing & loosing her balance during swim.
Koi stop eating from 3 days.
Someone try to treat that koi, he treat with tetracycline powder mix in water & give b-complex injection to koi.
All treatment not working till.
Can you suggest some treatment?
I don't lost that koi. I am not professional just a hobbyist.
