Poisoned goldfish rescue, dealing with toxic chemicals in pond or aquarium water.

  • Many pesticides are extremely toxic to fish, which was highly unfortunate for this owner even though the contracted pest controller had taken precautions to avoid spraying near the fish pond. This video illustrates the toxic effects of exposure to an insecticide, how we triage intoxicated fish, what you can do to help fish recover, and how to prevent future occurrences.

I lost 85 percent of my koi and goldfish earlier this year. The behaviors were flashing, breaching, erratic swimming/surging. I suspected one of my neighbors sprayed herbicide or pesticide. The fish passed in succession despite water changes, tank relocation, elevated oxygen, charcoal, clay, medications. Out of 25 fish I have 7 that survived (2 goldfish, 5 koi... I was devastated. Some of fish were over 25 years old.

Thanks for the video, I guess it was too late for me, hope the video would’ve come out a tiny bit earlier, i had 10 tiger barbs I put into a restored tank a few days ago (restored: reapplied sealant) all of them started showing the exact same symptoms and died off this morning. I am inclined to thinking that the sealant wasn’t meant for aquarium use (was white and a little chalky) and would’ve caused water poisoning. I would’ve loved to know how to mitigate such a situation a tad bit earlier. But well, now I do….

My bf runs a landscaping company. He has all his licenses. Pesticide being one . Environmental, wildlife, fish is a main focus, so this doesn't happen. I'd go after the company. Make a bet whoever sprayed it, wasn't licensed. If this ever happened to me. Livid and devasted

    • @puppy969

At the very least, the idiot that sprayed this chemical has less than half a brain & has no business using pesticides. I agree the fish owner should seek compensation from the pest control company.

Malachite green is not recommended for scaleless fish and is banned for use in fish intended for human consumption (do not use in aquaculture and in aquaponics). I've not used it in Bettas.

Doctor please help me,my Betta fish has swim bladder disease and he floats up but his body position is normal. He is still able to swim down the aquarium if I put my finger near him.I try to not feed him 4 days and he pooped a lot.I was afraid on the 4 day that he is sad and weak and starving, so I give him less than 8 pellets of Betta food that I moisturize before giving to him...Last night he looked more energic and try by himself to go to the bottom and swim a little. But now on the 5 day I don't know what to do,feed him or no? Ohh I almost forgotten to say that I try feeding him boiled small pieces of pea and he didn't want to eat them because they falled on the bottom of the tank, this was in day 3.

my goldfish is over 1 year old and not showing any spawning behaviours but my other goldfish have spawned lots of times, this one is neither being chased by the males and its not chasing any females, im saying "it" because i dont know if its male or female, it doesnt seem as eager about food as the others, its hardly grown as much as my others they are all the same age, one of my black moors is about twice its size, my tank is about 300litres i have 8 fancy gold fish, water change and filter clean regularly, filter clean is done a few days after water change

Hey, I could not help but notice how you take care of fish. I purchased a shubunkin goldfish 2 weeks ago and noticed she has a deformity on her mouth, the left side seems to be caved in but the right side seems to be fine. I want to know what could have caused this? She still seems very young and I am currently keeping her in a quarantine tank before introducing her to the main aquarium. Sometimes she will rub the side of her mouth against the tank.
Is there anything I can do to make it better?
I am concerned that she may have other illness too, last week I treated her with fluke solve and now started dosing with melafix as she gets sores on her fins that come and go.
I want her to have the very best chance and although I have only had her a short time, I dont want to lose her and I cant stand to see her suffer.
She seems healthy otherwise and is eating fine, though it takes her longer to get her food. She is currently swimming around the tank happily foraging for food :)

Hi! I am actively searching for advices to help me organize goldfish rescues. ... I have been trying .. well I saved comet & common goldfish from a public pound, but I failed to make them live in aquarium after that. I made many mistakes in the process , and learned from it , but that wasn't enough, all my rescued goldfish died , execpt 2 that were adopted from someone else. I want to make the rescue project smaller and save maybe 1 to 4 goldfish instead. I want advices on how to quarantine them , make sure they don't have parasites/worms and how to know if they have it / how to treat it after that. I have been trying to find answers to my questions with a veterinarian, but it didn't worked.. as a result of 100s of dollars spent for them of vet consults & antibiotics, time & energy they died. I am far away to have your knowledge but I am looking forward to it so I can save more animals by myself in the future (I will be a vet!). I wish a specialist like you could help me , giving me advices on how to set up a tank & quarantine & treat to successfully give a second chance to these goldfish. If there is a place I can contact you online or a specialist that cares for fishes , that's with y'all that I want to communicate now. & I would rather pay to talk to you to have your advices since you do rescues & complex operation than pay to (sorry but) some people that don't care & just want the money :/ .. fish vets near me are rare & people that are "specialized" in aquariums near me seem to just care about the hobby of fish keeping mostly, not the fish ... Personnaly I don't care about the hobby I just want to save animals & do what I can with what I have for them..🤍
