Goldfish surgery removing a tumour

  • In this video, we have Gollie the goldfish return for a second lump for removal from a different site. I have found that lumps occurring at the base of fish tails are notoriously complicated to remove - primarily due to their high vascularity. It was touch and go in Gollie's case where the wound kept on bleeding after the tumour was removed. In this video, I show you how haemostasis was finally achieved using a few different tricks.

    Iam amased by Dr skills. In my country fish are the most expendable pets. They are rather sensitive and easally get sick as kept in unsatisfactorly conditions, alike a glass bowl. When one dies you just by another one for a few euros. I kept acquarioum with tropical fish and a few of them lived for 10 years. Many died in the meanwhile, since I wasnt able to provide reliable medical care. When my favorite fish died i eliminated aquaria. Many people dont understand that fish are living creatures that can be tamed, inteligent and affectionate. So, vets in my country are not profficient in pet fish treatmen, as market considers this fish as expendable. That is why Iam so delighted when seeing somthing like this.

      Personally I've been keeping, raising, rescuing, fostering, and rehabilitating Goldfish for over 20 years and have learned so much since then! And, of course like nearly all aquarists, I sort of make up my own "rules". For Goldfish tank size, my rule is 4 gallons per inch for breeds that get under 7" in length, with about 5 gallons per inch for breeds that reach 7" and over. However it's best if I mention that I provide HALF that amount for every additional Goldfish (e.g. a tank with the capacity of 30 gallons could comfortably house two 5" adult Goldfish such as Pearlscales, and a tank with the capacity of 75 gallons could comfortably house two adult Goldfish with an approximate length of 7.5", etc etc). This seems to work best for both the Goldfish since they get more space than most people provide as well as decades of enjoyment for myself! They're wonderful and truly misunderstood creatures that, unfortunately, are even more popular pets than puppies...not necessarily a good thing, is it?

    • @Katherine-qs8ws
      @Katherine-qs8ws 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The tank size is fine, enough with this nonsense. You're talking about at least $300, a whole day of work to increase the dimensions by a few inches in each direction for elderly fish that may die from the shock of moving to a new environment with potentially hugely different parameters

    Thank you for sharing your expertise on your fish cases that you handle! I have a betta that I've been treating for over 6 months now with what appears to be a tumor on his head. I actually lanced it about 2 months ago, it had a clear fluid in it, but it did have some bleeding. I could have really benefited from your powdered fish bandage. For a while now the side of his face has looked terrible. I've tried all the commercial treatments even feeding an antiparasitic duo. He's a really nice betta, an import (my first and only fish I've ever spent that kind of money on) I do have a video I could share! Thanks for sharing your procedures and treatments that you use. I would do anything to be able to get my betta to a veterinarian as yourself. I have a biologist willing to look at him whenever I do lose him. I think I've told you before that I was a veterinary technician for 20 years, I've never worked on fish though. Thank you again for sharing. I hope you have a very blessed day🌿🐟🌿💚

    Hey Dr Loh, you have clear knowledge on this. Do you happen to know what's wrong with my goldfish, he has white masses(almost clear but it's like transparent and cloudy) and these have been growing on my fish for about a month now, he swims around but not as much and whenever these masses dissapeared it leaves the fish with very nasty red Marks , I've changed the water twice now and I've made sure the water isnt chlorinated it's like distilled water, I've added tonic salt (dissolved) to the tank but I've been getting the same results. Do you recommend anything else? I'm Very worried about this and I'm in need for advice. Plz help👍

He was swimming really weird a couple days ago almost chasing his tail since I have done a few salt baths and lots of water changes and added an airstone and some paragaurd the strange swimming has stopped but he won't eat. The water temperature is fine and the water parameters are most good ammonia is a little high. How do you suggest I lower the ammonia other than lots of water changes? My other axolotl in my tank is fine so I don't know what's wrong. Please help I NEED HIM TO EAT. whar do I do? also side note where did you go to school.

    I have a problem with some of my Indo Tarpon fish they are 4-7" in size, had them for like 1 year now. I had observed that some fish have red colour (blood patch) in the pectoral and pelvic fin bases (the joining place) and their mouths are red colour just like blood lines. Initially I had them all in a small tank when I got them and now in big tanks. From what I saw on the internet it looks like (ERM) enteric red mouth I do have other types of fish with them TSN and cichlids. What can I do to save them ? Will Amoxicillin treatment can cure this?

      I know I'm not who you're looking for, but I would highly recommend using tannins in any and all tanks! I primarily keep Bettas, Endlers, and other smaller fish that at least should have some tannins, but Goldfish enjoy them as well! I have learned over the past few decades of being in the hobby that natural is almost always better, which is why tannins are so awesome!! In high amounts, these micro-organisms have a unique healing property and are great for the immune system since they are antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic (for the most part), and can even be used as an algaecide! However, it's best known that this really will only happen in large amounts, and if a tank has too many tannins they can actually disrupt or even halt the beneficial bacteria altogether! So it's best being used in large amounts to where the tank is a dark amber-brown but not full blown brown :)

    • @thomasneal9291
      @thomasneal9291 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rat_dragon you have to be careful. some fish prefer a more alkaline water to thrive, and will not do well at all with the introduction of tannins, because of the acidity.

      you would want universities that offer degrees in animal husbandry, specializing in fish.
      very likely training in aquaculture would be a sufficient start, but fish pharmacology and medicine in general is rather specialist. there weren't any degrees specific to that when I was a grad student; you just need to find an individual who has invested the time and learn from them.

      To fugure out what the lump is, after removing the lump, it can be preserved in formalin and sent to a veterinary laboratory for histology testing.
