I think the issue with most games and movies nowadays is that they're trying to set up franchises and set up opportunities for sequels instead of just making a solid standalone piece of work
Except that isnt what makes this game so horrible. Have you not read any of the negative criticism about this game?? Gameranx barely brought any of it up.
@@isturboot1659 I've only heard of the well knowns like the devs being antagonistic with their own fans and that the game itself feels soulless and empty. Give me a little bit and I'll read into it some more.
That's why I loved Spider-Man so much. Aside from the venom and miles endings, there was no plans or hint to a sequel. It was just a game made of pure love
To be honest with you, I'm just tired of my beloved game franchises getting shitty, unfinished, out of touch sequels. All we wanted was something as good or better than saints row 1 and 2. What makes it worse is some people excuse these buggy messes, which I find baffling.
I think the one thing that really annoyed me was the fact that when you were fighting against the other "gangs", there was no actual ending to them. Yeah you killed their leader, but it doesn't even feel like you did anything in the city. With previous games, most of the time it actually felt like something happened. I loved 2-4 (didn't have an Xbox to play 1), and I loved the franchise. But even coming into this game with low expectations, I was very disappointed with how they handled this game. They didn't even take what they learned from the previous games and try to expand with some of their systems. For the first time in a Saints game, I was bored doing side activities and nothing really stood out in the main missions
I deleted it when I had to do a 3 minute fetch quest as the main story, followed by a main mission going to a drive thru to pick up a happy meal toy. It's just low effort and cringe.
1-3 had each gang having their own characters with motivations and personalities that gave them life and a purpose to hate what the saints are doing. This one it honestly felt like they only could afford the 12 or so voice actors 8 for the boss and 4 for the rest. Yet again they just didn't know or cared about what fans honestly like about the series.
@@MUDS1P they didn't disappear in 2 either, you still had to claim territory. The thing with them though is that they still had conclusions to each respective gang. In 2 before you could even go for the leader, you had to capture all their territory. While 3 did away with that, when you defeated a gang leader, the other leaders would talk about it. Killbane at the end took control of all the gangs. I don't praise 3 and 4, but they were very enjoyable for me
I still remember playing original saints row and getting the handgun at the start.. Fun story, also playing saints row 2 and enjoying it a lot. Not so much the other ones.
I think you're more focused on if the comedy hits or not and not the other reason for the hate being it's story. The fact you're commiting crimes to make rent and pay student debts is why people really seem to hate it, especially since the new Saints don't even look like gangsters, but folks you'd see at Starbucks
They also go on about the evils of capitalism while charging £60 for the fucking standard edition. The characters get all preaching while gunning down hundreds of ppl, like fuck right off. They aren't a gang, they are a hipster activist gang bang club.
@@dontworrybout2664 seriously, it worries me about the future of gaming and movies/television with everyone afraid of being offensive that the humor suffers and is reduced to levels of stupidity that I couldn't imagine. I'm really supposed to find the humor in a guy with a waffle tattoo? What about that is funny?
I think people including myself were more tolerant when it came to games like Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim being buggy because of how good they were and you’d expect some bugs here and there with how big those games actually are. Most of those bugs/crashes can be countered by just saving the game regularly. Whereas it seems more and more games that are just plain bad come out with a lot more bugs then they deserve to have. People will be more tolerant for the occasional bug if the game is good overall but devs releasing mediocre games riddled with bugs and just expecting to be praised isn’t right.
I agree they got away with the bugs because they were so innovative and unique at the time. They aren't innovative anymore and if you aren't going to shock people with the scope of the project they are going to expect everything else to be pristine.
Nah some bugs are fine but Bethesda has bugs that are also inexcusable. Losing hours of progress because of a broken side quest or corrupted game file is just poor. Shouldn’t have to make a paranoid save every 10 minutes because the game likes to break
As someone in brand strategy, it’s pain to see gaming companies fail so HARD at properly researching their consumer base and combine it properly with their own game flare. I almost can’t believe gaming companies have such lack of judgement
One thing that sticks out for me in the older saints was how they nailed the player character. You had history, you had real motive that was often a mystery and the other players know it and have their own relationship with you. The story didn't exist just to serve the gameplay characters had their own charm and motive which was great, it was about brotherhood and establishing the Saints in the world.
I was thinking exact the same just now.. Got it free on epic and although the opening is kinda nice, I have no idea who i am supposed to be. Getting fired from a job with 3 others (somehow a job is being gangster), who should have never been able to live together.. Its really not grounded at all.. PS. my controller works inverted.. need to push down the stick to walk forward at default
For me, saint row went down hill on its 3rd game. 1 & mainly 2 really drawn me to the game. The realness accompanied with comedy really worked well and is what I expected saints row to continue doing. As soon as the 3rd game came out, I was so disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, I can understand why others may enjoy the game, there were aspects of the game which I also enjoyed , but I feel as if they should of stuck to the blueprint of the first 2 games which really grew their fan base and industry. I’m not sure if it’s too late for them to try and do that, I know I would definitely play it and give it a shot. But I am in no ways surprised that they are not doing well.
@@kokturk6207 you wanna talk about “politically correct”? Only after a bunch of kiddies bitched about it did they add a female protagonist. All rockstar does now is cater to its child fan base
This game was supposed to be as stated “a step forward, not a step back. They didn’t need to reinvent the wheel”. As a longtime saints row fan, what I enjoy about 1 and 2 was different than what I enjoyed about 3 and 4. In 1 and 2 it was about growth and perseverance and growing the saints into what they were in 3 and 4. The 3rd and 4th games in enjoyed the absolute chaos you could create and the parody of other games including itself had become. This reboot is none of those. I do find it enjoying to play and the rewards for missions and challenges… well rewarding. But the characters were nothing like the original characters. Shaundi, Johnny, Pierce, Julius, Troy, and even the enemy gangs and their leaders for the originals. The story in each original game had a sense of closure on each rival gang, not in this one. The new gang members have no skin in this. They haven’t lost the love of their life, you didn’t have to chase a truck down to only gather the remains of one of them, none of these characters were mentors, none of these characters had any real danger or sense of importance to the new saints.
A step back? This is like 10 or more steps back, from it’s non gangster characters to the bugs it has (just to name a few), it’s definitely a huge downgrade compared to the older games
@@swed8506 I found the physics and most of the gameplay fun. I continue to play it for activities and world exploration because it’s a great world with a lot to see and do. I just feel like the characters and the story fell extremely flat on all fronts. The characters were very boring and I felt like there was no real danger or consequences for them. The story was very fast paced especially near the end and I don’t feel like I took out the idols, the panteros, or marshal. I found the side story with Larping to be more engaging than the main story.
I think you're right about people just being sick of buying broken games....I'm at the point where I won't buy a game until it's been out for at least a year and been patched.
Most of the games that have been released started off with bugs, Saints Row is no different. If you’ve played the game on PC you know the bug that was very prevalent: the controller disconnects out of nowhere and you have to restart the game to get it to work again. Now after the patch has been installed, the controller disconnects have stopped and I’ve been experiencing no problems. This is the main problem that the game has right now and in a few days I will write a tutorial on how to fix it so that it won’t happen again, so in the meantime do not play online. Other then this I don’t think there is anything wrong with the game. So play it and test it for yourself because honestly I don’t think that there is anything to complain about.
I haven’t bought a new game in years. I honestly don’t understand how people keep getting suckered into wasting $60+ on a broken mess or lacking content. You’d think they would’ve learned from fall out 76, Anthem, Avengers, Cybershit, Battlefield, the list goes on and on…
Iv been playing this on ps5 and have had very few bugs compared to other open world games these days. Though I do feel like there could be some fixes in updates that wouldn’t hurt.
I remember after Saints Row 4 ended, the big speculation at the time was that the Saints would build a time machine and you had to start your empirium in different time periods. I kinda wish we got that game.
Well that'd be great but what about saints row multiverse they could have done something with that to end saints row for good like you create four bosses the boss you play and the other three bosses because you go into saints multiverse to battle a really bad threat who's trying to destroy the multiverse yes the real saints from The origin games say the world and the multiverse by sacrifice their own self and now it's time for the new generation to start the saints run again
I kinda like how the reboot is worked into the lore (gat out of hell ending) they could have had their cake and eat it too, like a full reboot with different characters like we got, but references to old characters, like maybe there used to be a Johnny Gat but he DID GET the electric chair in this universe you know, they wouldn't have to be in it, but just easter eggs that there are different versions of the characters somewhere in this world. Having a reboot worked into your lore and NOT doing anything in it with the actual reboot (I know they used Agents of Mayhem as like the result of the ending in gat out of hell) with it just seems like a wasted opertunity to me
It also didnt help that devs hinted in earlier promos that they were going back to their roots, and then they showed us this. and said the gang is a 'group of people we'd love to invite to our living room". Not the best words to describe the next Saints Row ganbanger characters. So far the only ones who seem passable are Neena and the recent 'newest' older crew member.
wasn't neena the character that did that fortnite style car jumping and it landing at a 90 degree angle on the billboard, falling onto the cop cars? That doesn't exactly sound passable. lmao. Game is gone
I'm so tired of hearing about unfinished broken releases that I've become dead inside. I feel nothing when I hear this kind of news about a released title. It's become a shocker and a surprise when a release is in working order. I miss old PS2 days where every release worked as it should.
i was about to say something similar to that sometimes back in that era of games before console games could be updated via hot fixes and online updates if there were some problems with a ps2 game it was apart of its charm or you just reset your console they were easily fixed nowadays it seems games get released and they have issues the developers seem to just shrug and go we can patch that later
@@Faygo33 I think this is what every generation goes through. The hilarious thing is that back then when you say, "games didn't come out broken." we didn't know what to expect, nor what was "broken." Also, TONS AND TONS OF "AAA" titles back then (wasn't the same kind of AAA) that had tons of game-breaking issues but ones that you could easily bypass. (Remember fucking Donkey Kong 64? They had to put a Rumble Pak in each copy so it wouldn't crash after 30 mins of playing) THIS IS NOT A NEW THING. This happens all the time. Tons of good games release unbuggy/unbroken. Tons of games release buggy/broken. Happened with both your PS2s and your PS5s. This is clearly just you wanting to "go back," and forgetting that back there it was the same shit but with a different smell. You just want to go back to being a kid when you haven't realized all the gaming tropes and can easily know that cross is jump, and hitting the analog stick in is to sprint. Once you begin to know this, games become less of an amazing thing and you can easily forgive some mistakes here and there that makes you restart a few times... (Like we did in A LOT of games back in the day, albeit they were simple mechanics and not open-world GTA-like games.) Are games released unplayable? Yes, that is horrible. But please, PLEASE stop romanticizing the past like this. PS2 games had issues that could ruin your save and you would NEVER get a patch. Is it okay for unplayable releases? No. It's way worse now, but it's not much different back then. From what I take, you just want to go back to being able to be amazed by the big huge steps we took in gaming and it's quality from SNES to PS2.
That never happenede, literallya lot of games came out with lots of issues, and game breaking bus, i mean some of the even got patched but not how you think off, thet just realeased a version of the game in disc with all of the imporvements, but no don't let nostalgia and bias cluld your judgemnet of the past.
@@LyonManes that's a big assumption to make about what I said there buddy when new games release sometimes I run into the issues that people complain about and sometimes I can play a game and never run into any of these issues it was a simple discussion about back then games came out and didn't have many issues some did of course all I'm trying to say is it seems like today's developers throw caution to the wind when they know if something is wrong they can patch it
@@Faygo33 Some did? Most did. It was the SAME thing. The only issue is that the games weren't as advanced as what we have now. Megaman 2 doesn't have to worry about how an SMG has to interact with a muzzle flash and then also know how an AK47 muzzle flash would look as well. It would be like me saying, "Man, Yo-Yos suck because they get all tangled up. I wish we went back to sticks and stones." Like, sure, you can want that, but it was just as boring and had the same kinds of issues back then. You just realize more stuff now since you're older.
I think the real problem is that Volition seems to kinda have lost it as a studio overall. Remember how disappointing Agents Of Mayhem was? I think the developers just kinda gave up at making fun games and instead just plain recycle stuff from the Saints Row games and give it some sort of "coating", and it also happened here, too. It just feels like the team never really wanted to try something insanely new, just lazily rehash it in a way cause from the gameplay I'm seeing on this, it feels insanely recycled and lazy. The gameplay style is sorta the same, they didn't bother to really make it feel fresh and why it was such a good GTA alternative for some of their games.
The people that made the games you loved moved on years ago, they're scattered all over the industry. Add in a ton of publisher turmoil and there was no chance they were going to be able to really try something new.
I think the new saints row game ok but couple of down fall is some part of the gameplay feel like the same old gameplay and those characters should been more better but good thing about new saints row game is alot of thing to do in the world and where the game take place I think is good and the game still can go over the top with gameplay
@@CharlesVanexX well you think my comment got zero grammar the not right because some part of my comment do work together good and I still can read my comment slow and still understand it
Aside from bugs what really irks me is the story. I thought reviewers were being dramatic when they said the story kinda just ends out of nowhere but they weren't kidding it really just does end. There's no real pay off to any gangs other than the LARPing missions. There's also no real explanation for the "main" villains motive, it kinda just happens and then you're on the last mission.
Games like Saints Row, GTA, Yakuza and Mafia should NEVER be politically correct. They are games that need to be offensive. Criminals aren't politically correct. They do not care about your feelings, except as far as it benefits them. The push for Saints Row and GTA 6 to be more politically correct is bad for both franchises.
Exactly. You can’t make a game about murder and drugs and crime, and then turn around and be like “oh hell no; that joke CAN’T fly” I’m not saying make a crazy game that gets banned in multiple countries or comes with some sort of therapy session after play through, but come on now. It hurts the game when it’s neutered, and even if it does cause controversy, being confidently able to say that it’s a excellent game in all fronts more than makes up for it (See: RDR2, GTA 5,etc)
This is why think people don’t like this game because in the times we are in most of the jokes that would need to be said to be funny will come with backlash and getting canceled and remember that Rockstar definitely said the approach of GTA6 is going to be a lil dialed back
Let's be honest, everyone nowadays is butthurt over every little thing. Or if their community isn't in it. F that, just make games they're passionate about, it makes for better games, if you don't like it, then don't buy it.
At this point it’s been so long that I almost don’t believe games ever released in a finished state. That’s why I’m gravitating more and more to AA and indie games, not all of them are perfect but most I’ve played were fun experiences that don’t leave a bad aftertaste. I also love what the team behind Grounded has been doing, releasing the preview on gamepass and actively working on it over the years while actually listening to player feedback and adding things to the game. Now it’s ready for a full release and the game is better for what they did.
I think if you're buying every AAA game at release is your first problem. When games go on sale for $40 3-4 weeks after release it's just silly. W gamepass and now Xbox one and PS4 games being dirt cheap second hand there's no shortage of games to play to need to play games on release anymore. If you played every single game you can think of and need something more I'd recommend putting gaming on hold for a bit and finding something more productive to do. Saying this as a video game addict that let gaming take over real life. There's more dopamine to find outside the virtual worlds.
I mean Elden Ring had a relatively smooth release. I do remember a few stories about some small graphical issues that were rapidly patched out but it was remarkably polished on release for a game of that scope. Otherwise, go on steam and 9/10 indie games launching in early access are more polished than most AAA games these days.
@@moltres42 Lol Nintendo is so far in the tank it's ridiculous, arguably in worse state than Sony is right now They are point blank relying on ports to stay relevant at this point Regardless, industry isn't going to crash, just like the world economy everyone is just gunna keep spending their way out of stuff no matter how high the debt goes and how bad it gets. Because they are all too scared to rebuild the thing because that would require actual effort on their part If Sega didn't like where they were at so much I would much rather they come back and burn the industry down so it could start over again, give me back my 2007 renaissance
“We love [the old Saints Row games], but we also recognize those are games of a time. They made sense within that era, and we were able to do things that felt good back then. @@TyandOnGoing Yep. Destroy All Humans! 2 is releasing tomorrow and so ready to get back into it. But yeah, people know what they want and sometimes things need to be gatekept (RE/LOTR shows), even from their creators (with this).
@@TyandOnGoing cannot tell you how badly I want a Sr1 and 2 remake. I personally believe it would sell FAST. Honesty believe they had the best mix of humour and serious tone around building up your gang and getting established.
@@TyandOnGoing Especially considering the fact that Saints Row 2 is neigh unplayable on steam without heavily modded that awful PC port. I would have bought it in a heart beat if it was a SR1 and 2 remake. Imagine how cool that would have been to have both stories in one giant game. But oh well, Volition is kind of a dead company to me at this point.
The people who wrote this game definitely don't know what kinds of stories are popular today and no it isn't all those hollywood movies that flop for forcing diversity and inclusion. Its stuff like The Terminal List, Spider-Man Away Home, Batman, The Mandalorian, Peaky Blinders and few others that don't fall down the pit of activist writing. Saints Row 2022 is the 90s Diversity Gang Show brought back to the future with all the Hokey Rap Yo and Crap this is what the cooly kids is doing Yo.
I feel like the dynamic between the characters would have worked better if they didn't start out as roommates. They really should have let us discover and recruit these people over time. It would have probably given more room to show the characters, instead of telling us about the characters, but I think that starting them out as already friends is part of the same problem the whole story had: being super rushed. This game-world was big enough for a longer, more involved story.
100% agree, I love the characters but it felt hella weird that we didn't recruit anyone(minus Mr. Spoiler towards the end) and that most of the stories we got from these characters was them telling us about past events that we never got to see while they were doing something completely unrelated.
The issue is these characters don't WORK as characters. They tried to turn cut-thtoat ruthless gangsters into "good-guys"? Which makes no sense and is an extreme case of pesudo-narrative dissonance. To give you an example, the first cutscene with the characters, they complain about student loans and then casually suggest to COMMIT CRIMES and then agree unanimously like ITS NORMAL. It's so mind-boggling to me how casually they brush past that. Gangsters are not good people. They never can be. It's literally in their name, they're GANGSTERS. They shouldn't be worrying about shit like rent or student fucking loans, as if they wanna oblige with the law and then proceed to rob places and commit mass murder. It's absolutely ridiculous. What i liked about the old Saints Row was that it really felt like you were gangsters. The characters were badasses and cold. Like actual gangsters. But in the reboot, they try to make gangsters look like quirky superheroes, which is just. What? All in all, the characters were broken from the start, because they're in the wrong role. They basically tried to put college students in the role of cutthroat gangsters and acted as if they were doing it well.
@@SaltCane I don't disagree, And I think they really had a hard time trying to figure out how to make these likable gangsters. The problem is they could of. Look at the Harley Quinn television series. Poison Ivy had a line in there to the effect of "you're a bad guy, but you're a good person." You could still have likable characters, but you need to show us why they are criminals. The game has them treating the different gangs as if they're just the crummy corporations that they're working for. Likable people doing unlikable things is still feasible when we have an understanding of why that is happening. They didn't give us those reasons.
I also believe that when they showed us looks at game play, and in general the community hated it. The devs response was not acceptable, telling us to get over it essentially. I do believe gameranx even made a video about it.
Imagine how much better this game could've been, if during the gangs naming scene, when they are standing around in the church; all of a sudden, a portal opens (kinda like terminator style) killing the new cast in entirety and out pops Gat, Shaundi, Pierce, Kinzie and the Boss and the first thing we hear is the Boss saying "Where are we Kinzie?" That's the kinda stuff you'd expect from a Saints Row game.
basically, the original Saints were driving to a mission, cut a corner and pasted 4 douchbags standing outside a cafe huffing their own farts. 3 were killed the 4th is in a coma. this game is their coma dream.
From what I've seen, yes. There is absolutely no commitment in this new one. They start on a direction, then change the goalpost. Then you think they get to the point, and miss it by a mile. It is unfinished, and such a sheer departure from either of the two other iterations (I treat 1-2 different from 3-4+) of Saints Row the change is too jarring.
@@tylertheguy3160 saints 2 was great, and saints 3 and 4 would’ve be way better had they been their own title or franchise. It blows my mind that they never capitalized on the super powers in 4 to make a Batman/Superman series set inside the Saints row universe. It writes itself.
The bugs and glitches are unacceptable on their own right, but I can't lie, Volition did it to themselves. They burned some bridges when they spent the early months of this game's promotion cycle by getting on twitter and shit talking their own fans. They'd spent the last few months making fun of longtime fans with genuine and warranted concerns about the story and characters, the main things the SR 1 & 2 fans really wanted to be addressed, only to turn out with this. Even the other Saints Row folks I follow in the TH-cam community seem to be pretty lukewarm about it. There's some fun to be had here, especially with co-op, but not enough to justify the price now. If Volition takes a No Man's Sky approach and fixes the bugs, improves co-op and interactions with NPCs, and maybe adjusts things with free updates and patches, that will help. But for now? I'm going to wait for a sale.
Never in a million years are volition going to have a NMS-like turnaround. In order to fix the godawful writing and the soulless Ubisoft open world design they'd have to remake the game from scratch. NMS on launch had nothing to do, Hello Games have spent the last 6 years adding content and now the game is great.
I’ve been playing Saints Row since launch day & I have yet to experience any bugs or glitches or maybe I’m one of the lucky ones to not experience bugs or glitches. what platforms is everyone playing on? I’m playing On Xbox One X 🎮.
I absolutely loved SR2! SR3 was probably my second favorite, and it was close. I liked SR4 for what it was... I knew it was going to be ridiculous before it was released and so didn't try to take it seriously... just had fun with it and enjoyed the characters. I feel like part of the problem here is that the one general consistency (the characters and character development) are gone. It takes away a lot of the nostalgia factor, and inherent acceptance fans are willing to provide, when the cast of ridiculous characters we've been following up to now aren't there to be that one reliable constant. You're left to have to try to enjoy the game, which isn't really nailing either SR style consistently, without the tried and tested characters there to help sell it to you. You're not invested by default, because it's a reboot, and there isn't a lot to get you into it when it's not nailing the style of either SR2 or SR3 (most people seem to like one or the other, I liked both). It's a shame... I had high hopes for this :/
@@SquaredbyX No. 3 is a completely downscaled version of 2. It doesn't have the fighting styles, the customization, nor half as many interactive features, enterable buildings, or dynamic AI events. 2 was poorly optimized on PC, but it was a MUCH bigger game than 3.
All that goes through my mind as an og Saints Row fan is how much coverage this reboot is getting. I'm seeing it everywhere from TH-cam to articles to TikTok, Twitter, Reddit and anywhere else where people can talk about their opinion. All I can think about is would this game have this amount of eyes on it if it were the game that us fans were begging for? The game that could've kicked GTA Online while it's down? I just find it crazy how the whole Internet had their eyes on this game yet volition fumbled the bag heavily. They did it with a big grin on their face too. Pricks.
I honestly think it's the lack of big releases which caused it to get so much attention. If it released with more competitors, I don't think as many people would be talking about it.
It was the perfect time for volition to actually get this right and put saints row back in the forefront of gaming… Instead they gave us what they gave us…
the story was better when it was based on inner city communities gangs and crime serious story but funny moments that make u die laughing with gameplay that allows u to go crazy as u want but instead of letting players go crazy with limitless shit to do in the game they went crazy on what they could add to the story that they already had a formula too and didn't need tampering
The funeral scene in SR2 with Johnny Gat and Shogo is, in my opinion, an iconic piece of video game history. That game blended serious storytelling with over-the-top action so well.
I've played and beaten it - something about urge to max out my businesses to make as much money as possible drove me to play more - that was really the only thing I wanted to do. I could care less about the story, and honestly didn't even want to interact with the other main Saints guys. I really feel like it was written to appeal to the 18-21 year old audiences who haven't played a Saints Row game before and have their entire life entrenched in social media - I'd probably appreciate the jokes more if I cared more about social media.
I’d solidly agree with that statement. I’m part of ‘that crowd’ and 23, and gotta say I enjoyed it a decent amount. It wasn’t the best sure, but I enjoyed it.
Influencers are an awful choice of villain. They are neither charismatic nor interesting. It didn’t work with the twins in Borderlands 3. It didn’t work with Screwball in Spider-Man (easily the low point of that game). It doesn’t work here.
Constructive Criticism isn’t hate, it’s an opportunity to improve, the company can get more money if they actually listen to their fans and improve their game. This new generation needs to know that opinions and Constructive Criticism “isn’t an attack on your personal life and existence”.
People just judge this game by graphics. Stop doing that, the game is only at the beggining and i was chasing a guy haging in a VTOL,run from cops and shoot them in a car, shoot gangster hitting a train, run and hit gangsters with RPG,collect money, customize cars, rate business as shit and survive to attacks, even crushing cars with a monster truck! The characters don't have appeal? They are superstars! And guys,if you keep saying the game is goofy stop using weird clothes in your characters.😂😂😂
I think there are many reasons why this game is getting as much hate as it is some of those reasons being, 1: People are sick of paying full price for an unfinished and, or rushed game. 2: People are sick of companies using old IP's for games just to make a quick buck off the name of said IP especially when it has nothing to do with the series to being with or if it's worse than the older games. 3: Another reason can be that of advertisement. Companies love to promise you so many things especially when it comes to gaming, in other words people are sick of being lied to. In conclusion I think the reason why saints row is getting so much hate besides it being over priced and a bad game is the fact that people are sick and tired of the things I listed and this game broke the camels back.
What's sad is, there is very clearly love put into this game. A lot of the assets are very lovingly crafted, and it's clear that they put a lot of effort and research into getting that Southwest vibe just right. I don't know where the critical failure was in the management, because there was clearly a failure, but there was also obvious work put into it that got overwhelmed.
personally the idea that tavistock dupe kiddies who hate anything older than them can do amazingly skillful deeds as if they've lived a real life in the world doing difficult things instead of just being trained by video games to declaim everything is somewhat disinteresting. but of course all visible video games are extremely moronic because moronic people are easier to manage.
Glad you mentioned the aiming and driving being a step back. I agree 100%. At least the gameplay in the past games was solid but they even messed that up. An aim assist that you can't turn off. A stick deadzone that you can't turn off because it causes a camera bug. Most vehicles feel floaty and often times react in a glitchy way to any thing physics related. It just feels bad to play. Nevermind all of it's other issues.
I would have loved to see this game (or another game for that matter) make fun of AAA games releasing unfinished by having missions where the player is tasked with fixing bugs or correcting broken programming, etc. I personally would find it hilarious if things intentionally started happening that were like all the bugs and glitches we see in big releases (Cyberpunk) but the characters and NPCs had total awareness of them, and/or they found a way to weave it into the story or the gameplay where it was actually compelling and entertaining.
I think it’s due to it being called saints row. The game doesn’t feel like a saints row game or even part of the same universe. The bugs, the characters the whole story is something that the old saints would mock and it feels the developers wanted to appease a fanbase that isn’t there and it’s showing
Yeah. Feel the same way about the reboot devil may cry Capcom came out with years ago. Although I've never played it myself, I've seen a full no commentary walkthrough of the game and came to the same conclusion you have. I didn't like it because it didn't feel like a DMC game. They had Dante act in a way most fans agreed Dante wouldn't act. It seems game companies don't know how to make reboots nowadays.
@@cassandraboteler8115 to be fair to dmc reboot, capcom forced the company that made it to change things as much as possible to "appeal" to the western market. capcom wanted dmc( which is a bit of a niche genre) to sell as well as call of duty and other shit like that. also at least that game was actually pretty good, if it wasn't called dmc it would have probably been received a lot better, but every review of the new saints row has been fairly negative and it's at best a mediocre game, in addition to pissing off fans of the previous games
@@666FallenShadow you get it. The gameplay itself was good, in some places I’d say it was better than previous devil may cry games, but the characters were awful. Dante’s personality is half the reason people play the games, and he’s replaced with an edgy asshole that repeatedly shits on the very idea of the original character and series.
@@jamesvivian2855 yeah, the cutscene from the game when a white wig falls on neo-dante's head and he says something like "not in a million years" really pissed me off when I first played the game. Honestly though by the end of the game I didn't hate him as much. He is supposed to be a bit of an unlikeable asshole at the beginning but becomes a better person by the end. I still think that if they changed the names and made him (and everyone else like vergil and mundus) an original character the game would have been remembered more fondly because it did have some cool ideas like having the demon world be superimposed on our world and the gameplay was all right and the level design was quite awesome
Man this one was of my favorite game franchises, I've played every game in the series. I personally think this franchise peaked at SR2, and while I enjoyed SR3 & SR4 it was the beginning of the end for Saints Row. Abandoning the tone of SR2 which balanced over the top gameplay with a gritty story, in favor the extreme over the top nature of the future games was a huge mistake. Now the reboot is here, and it's a buggy, outdated, terribly written mess. It feels completely soulless, and objectively to me it's the weakest entry in the franchise. And don't get me started on the story and characters, they PALE in comparison to SR2. Overall, I'm concerned for the future of Saints Row there's a lot they can improve upon in a potential sequel, but that's if even sells well enough for them to make a sequel 5/10.
@@EQOAnostalgia because unlike modern rockstar games, saints row remembered to actually be a fun game. rockstar's obsession with realism made their games a fucking chore to play
@@EQOAnostalgia Saints Row has never been a GTA wannabe or clone, I wish people would stop saying this. You can say that for the first game maybe, but SR2 and beyond aren't clones bro
Based on this take, it kinda confirms my suspicion that likely games are growingly becoming influenced by money hungry corpos who aren’t actual gamers nor do they care about the gamer mindset and wishes.
If you were money hungry, you would make the most safe and repetitive shit. You would take what is popular and what is proven to make lotsa money This is not about money. This is about agenda, this is about lacking self awareness. This is about isolating yourself from average consumer and only looking of those in your own small bubble.
@@hannibalburgers477 That’s the thing though, this technically is a safe and repetitive game. This game is literally like Gotham knight in the aspect of enemies having levels and doesn’t really deviate far from what the older Saint Row games were like. The only difference, which may be related to pushing an agenda as you said, is the cringey voice lines and plot points in the game. The story likely has a great deal of agenda pushing but again I attribute that to out of touch corpos who just want a gen z targetted game while completely disregarding the other generations of gamers that would have loved a better homage to the older SR games. As for the gameplay itself, it’s textbook lazy mechanics that don’t elevate from prior experiences which shows a great lack of care and more importantly a lack of commitment in paying people to make a well polished game with next gen gameplay
That rant at the end with Bethesda hit me hard. And honestly I've also seen myself lately just not interested in the new games anymore. Not because of nostalgia but I miss it when risks were about creating a new IP with experimental gameplay that was a 50/50 (and heavily marketed) instead of "hey maybe we should release this game early, we'll think about those bugs later and make a day one patch... eventually"
so... you subscribe to the opinion that every bug filled release is Bethesda's fault? either you haven't played many games or have a poor memory. there were COUNTLESS game releases other than Bethesda's that were glitch filled messes. if you need an example, try looking up The Witcher 3 when it first came out.
When no one criticises, when no one votes with their wallet, when no one voices their concerns..... THAT is when we get games like Battlefield 2042, Cyberpunk and more recently Saints Row Reboot. That is all.
@@titanusgodzillaa4274 I think obviously game companies need to stop releasing broken games that demand immediate and continued patches. That said, the insane snottiness and ugly behavior by Gamers over day 1 releases (that eventually get great patches) is so obnoxious and childish. Gamers regard day 1 Cyberpunk as a crime against humanity. Everyone else who isn't a capital g Gamer remembers day 1 Cyberpunk for the b1tchy, nasty, miserable Gamers doing their thing again. People who bought No Man's Sky on a whim a few years after it released missed all the miserable psychotic Gamer crap
This is my first Saints Row game, a friend bought it, luckily for me. I'm a sucker for a good story, but the story in this game is absolutely non-existent and horrible. The gameplay is sort of fun, especially in co-op (the co-op bug where you can't join your friends is annoying as hell). The shooting mechanics are nothing to write home about but they aren't bad, it is a good boredom reliever. The missions feel lazy AF, the developers are abhorrent for thinking this was acceptable to give to all y'all who were looking forward to this game. The 'fetch this and that' style main missions make me feel personally violated. There is no flare, nothing interesting or engaging in pretty much ANY of the missions. The characters are flat, forgettable, and boring. Not to mention you're forced to grind repetitive mind numbing tasks, for a LONG time, to save up some money to upgrade your weapons, cars, person, or buy ventures. The grind for money isn't as bad as the other aspects of the game though, and can be sorta tolerable if you're playing with a friend. Overall, I mean the combat is decently fun, again, IF, you're playing with a friend. The driving is alright, drifting is pretty fun. Upgrading your cars and weapons is somewhat amusing. Nothing else in the game is noteworthy. This is an honest unbiased take as a first time player. If someone truly claims to love this game (which I haven't seen), I would question their taste in media. If you don't got anything else to play, and a friend to play with, go for it, it's decent enough to enjoy. If you're alone I wouldn't bother tbh. The developers really dropped the ball.
I haven't even been able to try multIplayer yet as I have no friends who got the game and whenever I try to do matchmaking on series X I get "host has declined your request". I honestly can recommend they buy the game either as even the standard editions feels like a rip off at £60. I couldn't in good conscience ask them to spend that kind of money on a game I know is crap just to come play with me. Now you ask why am I still playing it then and the answer is simple. I spent money on this pile of shit and I will finish it even if it kills me.
Agents of mayhem honestly looked like a bad idea. Single player controlling teams of characters that don't interact together, you just swap between em. Didn't appeal to me at least
I think some people are gone too far with the hate but the criticism is on point and deserved, it’s 2022 games should come out in a decent state. Cringy dialogue and unlikable characters is one thing but all the bugs and glitches, is not good enough. I have had some fun moments with it but the bugs are annoying, and hope they get ironed out. And I don’t think the devs are handling it well, attacking fans and reviewers. When it gets patched and technically better I’ll go back to it. Sent an email to support too with all the issues I have had no replies 🤣. It’s been fun to watch this unfold
It is a soulless husk compared to the previous games, a buggy mess, cringey to the point my skin crawls just hearing about it, and it’s editions are way overpriced. It’s just a desperate cash grab. Growing up on saints row at this point I won’t care if they go bankrupt.
People need to understand game development is steering towards catering to kids and in a way have always been for kids we just never noticed as kids how cringey most video game dialogue has always been. FFX is a great example. Great game and great story, but the mid game dialogues is pretty cringey and unrealistic and only a child would think it's how real adults conversate. Only expanding on the mystery of the whole game, at the end, at which point, mostly adults would only have made it to.
Saints was good, bc it was like "Oh the Boss is your deadpool over the top type character while everyone else is just responding/reactring to them in their own character's way" and example of this would be in SR3 the boss is like "Fuck it, lets raid the military" and shandi is very agiasnt idea bc it's the military. There was wacky things but it still tried to ground itself in reality without getting to attached to it. The New SR just feels like everyone is trying to be the Deadpool where now i feel if the boss was like "lets raid the military" all of them would be "Fuck Yea" while they all parachute out the sky gun blazing and doing tricks on a dirtbike while shooting. In the old SR the boss was really theonly who could really do that sort of stuff (Gat being the expectation, but Gat showed in the older games he could hold his own and he was little insane like the boss) which made them/you feel more special. Here everyone just like a copy and paste of the same charcter type with a few things changed about them.
To make a long story short, this SR doesn't have a straight man that other can bounce the wacky humor off of. Everyone wants to be Spongebob and Patrick, but there needs to be a Squidward to counterbalance the silliness.
I'd say Eli was the exception. That one mission where the boss just wants blow up a bunch of Marshall's shit while Eli keeps trying to tell him to stop was one of my highlights of the game.
In my eyes, they could of catered to both sides of the fandom. They needed to be willing to make stupidly offensive satirical jokes and allow you to run around naked with a purple ballon sword. Then keep the story down to earth and serious, letting the player choose how dumb it gets. Also. Why are they trying to make us sympathise with spoiled rich kids. If we go by some of there logic I an many other people have justification to do horrible shit... which is not true. Finally. Being a professional 3D animator, hobby game programmer myself. Feed back is the great shit on the planet, like a drug, but productive. Why cant they accept that there shit stinks? Dont tell us we like it. We dont. You might like and and spent many years fine tuning things, but if the product sucks, take it as a lesson!
I don't really agree with your first idea. I think trying to please everybody by going down that route would have led to a huge mismatch in tone. Think back to Watch Dogs 2, this was a huge problem with that game. Marcus was portrayed as a teen hipster basically having "fun" all the time, and saving the city with goofy shenanigans in the meantime. In the gameplay though, you could headshot anybody and everybody. Now the player didn't HAVE to do that, they had a choice. And I personally didn't have a problem with having the freedom. But I remember a ton of people complaining about this mismatch of tone. So it would end up being pointless, they'd try to please people but most would be turned off by the tonal issues.
Because growing up they got showered with praise fromt heir family and hiveminds/echo chambers and once they hit the real world they couldn't cope with facing the reality that they aren't special or talented. Those types of entitled people only know how to double down on their delusions.
@Sophisticated Nebula oh yeah. I forgot about Watch Dogs 2. I did personally enjoy the game, but I think you might be right. The game did feel a bit black and white in contrast, in its tone. However that also brings to mind this idea I had based on Infamous Second Son, with possibly my favourite game system of all time, the Karma system. While yes it is Good or Bad. I almost feel like a similar system could be used for tone of the Saints Row game. Have the characters written in a way that they are definitive in both stupid and Serious. Even if the story is the same and you change the cutscenes, loadouts etc etc. Tech wise I belive were there, economically up for debate with global inflations. Would you agree thay this could satisfy?
We kept telling Volition we weren't liking what we were seeing and they were adamant it was what we wanted....even if we didn't know it yet. I'm sick of devs telling us what we want. How hard can it be to listen and study what worked? They tried to please everyone and they tried REALLY hard to offend no one. Thats the main reason the humour and character behaviour failed so badly because they expect everyone to share the same sense of humour. It's painful
"They tried to please everyone and they tried REALLY hard to offend no one." This sentence of yours will be copied/pasted as the most suitable review of the next GTA game, lemme tell ya !
I just hate how all the game is basically outside. SR2 you were able to go into the mall (which had unique stores), run around the various safe houses, inside a building in the collage campus (again with unique store) and other areas too, even ultors base and the prison. It just made areas unique and fun to mess about in. This version of SR is just bland. Stuck outside (I like the IDEA of the map) but it’s as if it’s meant for a Just Cause style game, but this SR instead has us locked into running about the same empty dull wasteland.
Saints Row 3 is my favorite. I'd probably like 2, but I can't get it to work on PC even with the "fixes". 4 was just too over the top for me. I prefer a more... grounded experience. People loved the super hero abilities, but I hated them with a passion.
I feel like everyone overlooks the multiplayer on saints row 1. The game modes online are what kept me playing for years after its release. They never captured that in any saints row again.
The people who genuinely like the new Saints Row game are the same people who spend 40 hours a week in GTA Online flying their oppressor causing grief for those who are just trying to enjoy the game.
An unfinished glitchy mess of a game, clearly needed more time to finish. Then there's the game developers that unapologetically attacked anyone that was critical of the game. The characters of the reboot are unlikable little sh*ts. The writing is freaking nightmarish. Take your pick.
They should of buried it in Feb when it got Delayed ..... Im glad i didnt waste 60 notes on this...... its a Pathetic game and judging on the way the world is heading im not really arsed about GTA 6 anymore.... Id prefer older games ported to PC modded up to their eye balls

I think many people are just upset with the lack of flair that the other games had. It's a Saints Row game but it lacks the over the top crazy stuff that 3 and 4 had while somehow also lacking a more Saints Row 2 style game. I've played WORSE games but this reboot just lacks anything to keep me hooked on the story or the gameplay. Many times I've played for ten or twenty minutes and then stop. It's hard to stay involved or care a lot when the game is fairly boring. There's a big lack of character personality too so it's hard to care about any of them too. Nothing about them really feels impressive or unique. They just feel like random people who are devoid of personality. I don't think the game is as bad as some people are making it out to be but it could use a lot of work.
these characters all came off as cowards and for lack of a better term, just twats. I wouldn't believe that ANY of these guys would hurt a fly, all of these characters look like they'ed run to a safe space if you so much as made fun of them. Obnoxious characters with no charm unlike the previous characters in the series.
I kind of agree that 2 was the pinnacle. 3 was still a blast, 4 was ... well 4 was different , not really great not really bad., I have no interest in this one from what Ive seen of the story, or setting. The bugs can be fixed , but the rest is what it is.
When I was in College one of my design teachers gave me advice I would have given the design team for Saints Row, sometimes it's best just to scrap everything and restart from scratch because no matter how much you polish a turd at the end of the day it'll still be a turd. That's what this studio should have done they should have seen the negative feedback from the reveal they saw that their project was a turd and restart from scratch but instead they doubled down on their idea and told the community we hear you but we're just going to ignore you because you don't know what you're talking about so they deserve all the hate they're getting.
it's a tough call because it costs a lot of $$$ to make this game. They also scrapped another prototype I think. So it's either release this to collect money to recoup studio costs (which they did -- they've already sold 1M copies) or throw it away and lose $50M+
funny thing how you mention that when i was in college doing a course in game designing i was scheduled to do a 3D first person shooter game HOWEVER i was running out of time for the game and the coding was getting more complicated so i messaged my teacher and asked him if i could have an extension for my assignment until i had to hand in my exam (COVID) And he said, yea, and i managed to quickly throw together a endless runner game........granted i didn't get to add a skin to my character but i got something done and i managed to pass my course with all distinctions
@@eZincDev They shouldn't have geared the game around the pronoun crowd from the start. Literally, the reboot was theirs to fail only because it was already built on top of existing tech. All they had to do was build a compelling story around already existing tech, and they couldn't even do that.
To me its about letting AAA devs know we are tired of the exhausted formula that ubi made. Getting that 100th game thats essentially the same open world boring, bloated, half baked game is getting real old.
You missed out the attitude of the developers on social media, there are always going to be fans who complain & if it's not handled well companies risk making it worse & that's exactly what they did with their arrogant responses. It was like they were trying to embody the attitudes of the Saints & that just doesn't work in real life. With everything appearing so generic in the lead up to the release they should have been doing everything they could to reassure ppl rather than scorning them. As you reference they had a flop with Agents of Mayhem so this should have made them more cautious so as to avoid another flop, but they failed even after delaying the launch. This could be the flop that kills the franchise.
It goes two ways. How can they begin to improve if their fans keep yelling, threaten them, etc about the game they released? They can't focus on making it better if their fans are up their ass harassing them because they don't like the game
Their fans are talking trash to them just for making a game.... You know how annoying it will be for them to deal with all the hate? People were hating the game on the very first trailer, nobody wanted to give it a chance. The developers didn't say much bad, it's the fans that are saying toxic stuff.
@@bigsmoke394 People judged it by the trailer, that's what trailers are for; we're not required to give them a chance, particularly after messing up with Agents of Mayhem. They developers/social media people were dismissive of legit concerns, it doesn't matter how toxic others are being, they should have listened.
In every other game the rival gang leaders felt like real scary characters. This game they were jokes and died meaningless ass deaths. The island in the middle was built for a 5 minute mission and never used again. This game js a lot of good ideas that were done halfway and published without being finished.
I loved 1 and 2 and 3. It wasn't TOO whacky, the gang wars were fun and the characters were great and most activities we're really fun at the time. After 3 I had no idea what was going on, we were the president fighting aliens in space and that completely lost me.
The problem with 4 is I feel it was meant to be a standalone DLC like Gat out of Hell but then GTA 5 got announced so they fleshed it out a little to make it a full game so it ended up being weird while it was fun it didn't feel like it should have been a full game
I mean 4 is still a pretty good game, but definitely very wacky 3 is the perfect balance of it all imo, it can be crazy but still has its serious moments, while also being really fun
Yeah i was not a fan of 4. The whole super power stuff was dumb imo and really ruined the flow of the game. Like why would you even need car customization at that point. They took it in such a bad direction, i could never get myself to play it after watching a friend play through some of it
My only big complaint on this game is that it feels like it's setting something up, then no real big payoff in the final mission, Like the ending kinda makes sense and feels like an ending, but only like an ending to the first chapter. What they with the DLC is what mill make or break this game, I'm hoping they can continue the story further and make some actual consequence to your actions.
I expect the DLC for the new Saints Row to be a total game-changer. It's going to be a big deal and it will either be loved or hated. And if the DLC isn't good, it's pretty much going to be total flop. Is my prediction.
Which does make sense. With it being a reboot it’s gotta start somewhere and can’t dump everything into the first entry. They have their faults but if they’re planning a story out with this set of characters there has to be a initial point AND somewhere for the game to grow and the story to grow. Like with SR1 to SR2. There was a growth in every aspect. So I expect that here with the reboot to the dlc or even to the reboots sequel if it gets the chance
I absolutely LOVE when media outlets are OBJECTIVE when doing JOURNALISM. Thank you guys for being shining lights. What a shame that Saints Row is this bad. Not buying.
The game is not bad. Its fun. You're missing out. Some of the reviews out there are very misleading. I almost didnt buy the game but im so glad that i did.
Your comment does not mean what you think it means. You sound like you're only hoping to hear someone vindicate these thoughts on a product you've already made your mind up about. The only objective part of this video is when they are talking about the game's performance issues. The rest of it is still subjective because that's how art works. Like the story, humor, etc. that's still subjective. You literally cannot be purely objective when assessing an artistic property. Video games have aspects of both. Thus every critique and whatnot of the product will contain both. And I also think the new Saints Row is mostly meh. But yea, some people still find enjoyment in it because what doesn't work for you, can work for someone else.
@@DerpinPON3 So good to see someone who knows the difference between the terms subjective and objective, and what people don't understand that whenever you state your opinion it's immediately subjective and not fact. Back in the day we bought games that were 95% complete. We were satisfied with the game and the very few glitches, bugs or errors that it had were fixed with 1 or 2 patches. That was it, that was the complete & working game that you paid good money for. But now, now they seek your money first without a finished product. Last time I checked, I don't get paid for doing 50% of the work. We have allowed this to happen by willingly giving our support and not demanding what they sell to us, a complete version of the game.
@@Dandoskyballer exactly this! Back in the day there were no patches. So if devs released a glitchy ass game it would always be that way.......so generally they released 100% complete games
With how fast paced our world has become, it makes complete sense. we consume too much media compared to the volume creators produce, that's why every company tries to pump out as much games as possible(I'm not just saying this in a gaming standpoint, even with films and animations as well)
I think one of the biggest problems we're facing with these types of games is no one wants to make edgy jokes in games anymore. GTA V will be the last game like that with edgy comedy an over the top tropes.
For real they wouldnt even put a Rim Job joke in the Saints Row Reboot out of fear of "offending someone". This reboot is a joke cause it is SUCH a downgrade compared to something like Saints Row 2 or 3. This game is a perfect example of playing it WAY to safe and scared to offend anyone.
@@evan258 I think it all depends on how you use RJ in context. I would say most RJ jokes are adolescent and pretty harmful. A quick semi laugh if anything. I’ve played SR 3 and 4 and admittedly haven’t touched 1 or 2 so I don’t know what those kind of jokes were. But I’m pretty sure no one really had issues with the past saints row games.
It honestly feels like they tossed everything at the humor wall hoping something would stick. Some of them did, few of them did if I'm being honest (the one where you have to mash a button to get out of bed after getting fired was the best comical representation of depression I've seen in a video game) but a lot of them felt cliche, cringy, or eye rolling repetitive (looking at you "the things I do for rent" dialogue line).
Why? Because they destroyed a franchise we all liked and gave us a soulless 2003 era bland open world with AWFUL writing and worse voice acting. It's a legitimate bad game and we shouldn't excuse it.
I've played it for about 5 hours on my ps5 it crashes about once an hour; very frustrating. i haven't done much of the story so i can't speak to that but my biggest frustration is the fact that your driving camera is LOCKED low and closely behind the car which obstructs your view of the road ahead and can only be moved for upto 5 seconds before snapping back. The animations of people in the environment and even your character are reminiscent of games from 2002, very basic and unpolished. I was looking forward to playing this for a few months and so far have NOT thoroughly enjoyed it. But on the bright side I'm not PISSED and will continue to play it through to the end. 6 out of 10.
Wow, I've put in around 12 hrs on a base ps4 (not even a pro) and it hasn't crashed once. I have however had at least 3 bugs that forced me to restart missions. However, it is mindless fun to me so 6/10 seems about right.
Man Saints Row 1 & 2 we’re the shit! I miss that shit because it’s story was really good. Especially when 2 released. The characters had me interested to which made me love the series. I liked 3 too but fell off quickly when they started doing dumb shit with it. I wish when they said “reboot” I wish they would of redone the first 2 games and I think it would have been a ton much better.
you want to know why the story is so bad in the new saints row? look at the lead writers history, stuff like romantic novels and etc, only 1 has even written for another video game
I think it also has something to do with the devs being super toxic about the whole thing. With Cyberpunk, at least CDPR acknowledged that the game was broken, apologized for it, and actively worked with the fans to slowly fix the game. Meanwhile, Volition devs are trying to make fun of all their critics by meme-ing about them and calling them whiny and pathetic despite the very legitimate complaints about the game.
@@Skegfromcraigslist Probably mostly because ppl now write bad reviews and don't even own the games and almost every new release is dragged on certain sites but somehow has positive reviews overall
I just kinda wish they went with the continuity of one of the endings in Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, the one where Gat wishes to reset lives on earth and made it as a canon ending. That way we can see the story goes on how the Saints in this rebuilt reality, being made with player still playing as Playa/Boss but with the guide of Johnny after he regained his memory from the past life
From the humor problems you describe to the gameplay falling flat to the performance issues, it sounds like something vital to the franchise(& it's feel) is missing; it seems that the cost of this attempt to appeal to everyone was the erosion of any real soul/substance, leaving it to wander directionless & disgraced. Sounds like a microcosm of today's culture as a whole...
@@billywashere6965 it doesn’t even appeal to the “Whiney bird” people Sure it’s inclusive, but that doesn’t make a game appealing. Being inclusive while having good content is what does. This falls flat on the ladder

Worst part is everything is already there Gameplay, mechanics, sandbox, design, all of it is pretty much there except the npc depth If they had worked on that more and hired someone that doesn't look like a karen(seriously go look at the dev picture for the writing staff) they would have probably one of the best games in years on their hands
I crashed on the tutorial multiple times and also the glitches were too weird, I would teleport whilst aiming and shooting, bizarre bugs, currently it’s a bit too unstable for my liking.

@@The07One in this day and age you know to expect games to be buggy on release, not sure anyone can be “naive” anymore. The last few years were unpleasant so to speak.
The reason I hate the reboot is because A) They are getting rid of of Johnny, Shaundi, Piers, Olaf And Kinzie. (These new characters are just terrible) B) They are getting rid of the adult humour that makes the series what it was.
I wish agents of mayhem got another shot. It’s my guilty pleasure. I know it’s flawed but the gameplay and dialogue was fun to me. The powers between all agents was cool too. Make another and make it Co op and add more missions
Ultimately, the issue with buggy games comes down to MS and Sony. They need to stop letting these buggy games pass submission. We are getting to the point where we may see another case of what Atari did back in the 80's, where they nearly killed the game industry forever by having no standard of quality. It was Nintendo that saved gaming by creating their "Nintendo Seal Of Quality". And while games today still have to pass a certain level of standards, I think MS and Sony have really loosened the reigns because ultimately they care more about selling games than selling quality.
1:40 disagree. There's character creation, a phone interface, and numerous hand to hand missions. Not to mention you personally took over the entire city. Not just one of three city or doing business missions. So of course for the second game Volition do the same but better.
I personally don’t agree that the “hate” is due to enormous number of bugs those can be fixed over time even though yes it’s a general issue that you buy a 60-70€ game these days and it lacks polishing…. No I think it’s much more simple, the game is branded as SR which on one hand had its own identity crisis over the series but still was a gang turf war style game with tones of side activities and huge portion was committed to edgy humor and over the line characters, now you get a bunch of collage students trying to pay of a loan or whatever… just this one line and you have to immediately know what game are you dealing with, a game that wants to appeal to players who are familiar with the franchise while it doesn’t want to push boundaries, a practical example is rebranding edgy named stores like rim jobs and freckle bitches, then it creates a setting of story that imo is just childish and doesn’t fit the SR title if it was a completely new game separate from SR I would find it playable but now it’s just a game that isn’t going to fit nowhere. And ps: I find the gameplay to not have any improvements and feels old, and the sponginess of enemies was also only acceptable when you had superpowers with guns having more of the fun purpose in the later games now it’s just inappropriate. I rest my case.
Companies are putting less and less effort into their games and still pricing them way too high. Why the hell do people keep buying games without waiting for reviews (from youtube or other sites). The pre-order bullshit is also a problem when it concerns purely downloadable crap (pre-order is understandable for physical stuff). It’s an enabling behavior. Why else do you think companies and devs keep getting away with it, making profits even when their games are pathetic.
You are tiptoeing around the answer to your repeated question of "why". The answer why is quite simply and sadly, the culture wars in America. Companies are lost, afraid of misteps, so they capitulate to unexperienced "youth" in hopes they will avoid minefeilds. Only to create something so bland, so afraid of being anything, that it obviously fails.
There hasn't been an argument about the very first game. It's generally considered the second best game behind SR2. The argument comes in regarding the huge tonal shift from 2 to 3 and beyond.
@@imkidfriday That could be because it was never ported to PC or other consoles since SR1 is a Xbox exclusive or so. 2 and up was on all the platforms so that's most likely why it's not as talked about.
@@liferescripted Which was being worked on by one of the workers at Volition to optimize it correctly. The feeling I got was that they kept holding back. I get they wanted the more grounded feel of 1-2 so holding back on the crazy things The Boss pulls off makes sense there. but by extension they held back on the irreverence in the humor; fans of first 4.5 games could easily see things as having been watered down. Rim Jobs got changed to Jim Rob's, Freckle Bitch's is just FB's now. To me it felt like the writing got held back hard in order to stay a bit more PC.
Exactly. Not to offend anyone. All these people are so worried about some douchebag on twitter seeing something they deem inappropriate and the mob then goes crazy and starts with the boycott saint's row hashtags. It's pandering to people who most likely don't play games and/or have never played a saint's row game.
EXACTLY!!!!! One of the main things that makes Saints Row Saints Row, is the unapologetic -ness of it... Saints Row was right in your face unapologetic, (and in my opinion) hilarious and crazy at the same time... and from 1 to 4 things just got more unapologetic and more right in your face and more hilarious and more crazy... Thus game, in my opinion, is just an empty shell....
@@TheViperSlash The writing in the new Saints Row is not as bad as people claim. Most of the stuff you're complaining about comes from the previous games in the series, for example. And since you're probably new to the franchise, I'm going to put a disclaimer here: They're also, perhaps, more original than most other games. In fact, I found the writing actually quite good for an open world game. The problem, then, is that, because of the open world, and because of the choice system, people will use the story as a way to judge the game. Because I thought the story in Saints Row 4 was pretty good, I was excited for the new Saints Row and honestly pleasantly surprised after finishing the game.
@@hi8super I'm really glad you enjoyed the game, and I don't think the writing or the game itself is bad... but I didn't enjoy it and it wasn't for me which is completely fine... to me it just feels sort of empty... and about the whole "new to the franchise" thing, I suppose you're right, the first Saints Row game I played was 4, and I absolutely loved it, afterwards I went back and played all the other ones and I love and enjoy playing all of them, even Gat out of Hell... This one, to me, just feels, like I said, empty, devoid of character (and I mean the game as a whole), and I understand it's a reboot, so it would be unreasonable and maybe stupid to expect it to be like previous games, which I understand and accept, but personally I don't like the new direction (if you wanna call it that) that they took... But ultimately, again I'm genuinely happy that you enjoyed it... and maybe it'll grow on me and over multiple playthroughs I'll start to enjoy it... And who knows, maybe the sequel will be incredible, because I understand that it's not easy to create and establish a whole new world and a cast of new characters and make the plyaer invested in those things right out of the gate in the first game... Much Love & Respect🙏
I've played every game in the franchise, and at first I was looking forward to this one too. But after the trailer, the character reveal trailers, and seeing some of the dialogue... I lost my enthusiasm. I'm not even sure what to say, but it doesn't resonate with me anymore. I don't like the characters designs or personalities. This isn't some allegiance to the older characters either, as I never liked Johnny Gat. It feels soulless, alienated, like it's wearing the franchise name as a mask to sell itself. I'm going to play it some day, I'm sure. Only time will tell if my gut response was the right one.
My main issue is the aiming. It will randomly speed up and slow down. Plus that weird thing where it slows down just before it get to an enemy's head. I often miss my shots because of that. I've been so well self-taught that I can land a headshot with ease in most games, but with this one it's hard. Random speed ups and slow downs in aiming speed, the reticle stops moving right before it gets to the actual hittable area on an enemy.. what is that? Like who's that for? Not folks with good aim like me that's for sure.
It's too safe... people are kind of over cookie cutter bs. The industry is bloated, corporate and taking zero risks. I was around for the end of the Atari and beginning of the NES age, and i can see how complacent devs are now, only serving their shareholders. Indies are where it's at, oldschool games, and VR, for me personally. The mods coming out for oldschool games ported into VR alone have blown my mind and it's a giant middle finger to the industry. If you're sick of the same safe bs, do what i did, built a Multicade arcade cabinet, install thousands of classics, mod your old library into 2022 and forget the AAA industry even exists. The DLC, the cash shops, the loot boxes, the live services, the horrible buggy launches, let them fade away into the distance. Join the Retro Resistance!
Saw an amazing bug during a review video earlier. They were doing an 'insurance fraud' mission. The traffic got all confused and basically stopped moving. He managed to get knocked up to a highway bridge near-by. Then the cars would literally fade out/despawn as they reached the start of the bridge. I love Saints Row. I even think going back to the first one knowing how off the rails it will get makes that one better in a way. This? If Epic/PS+ puts it up as a freebie, I may give it a go when/if (considering how badly it's been reviewed they may just pretend it never existed like Agents of Mayhem) bugs are fixed.
This is two games in a row after us fans have been asking for a real SR5… I don’t think they deserve a 3rd chance after this, and I’m not looking forward to it anymore. They should just let the series die.

I think the issue with most games and movies nowadays is that they're trying to set up franchises and set up opportunities for sequels instead of just making a solid standalone piece of work
Exactly. Studios want to invest in new IPs to make money for the future, but fail to remember that it only take one bad entry to poison the well.

3 was like that too, the gangs didn't even disappear after you beat them. If you praised 3 or 4 you're part of why this happened

Don’t get me wrong, I can understand why others may enjoy the game, there were aspects of the game which I also enjoyed , but I feel as if they should of stuck to the blueprint of the first 2 games which really grew their fan base and industry.

Don't support the industry, MTX and the rest, STOP supporting them.

That would've been a success or have it to where they time travel and they meet their old selves. But NOOOPPEE we got this doo doo ass game.
I thought the next game would've involved time and *that* would cause a reboot with new characters. Like a Flashpoint for saintrow.
Im glad i never played 4

Definitely agree
💯

That's the kinda stuff you'd expect from a Saints Row game.

4. Characters that are lame and uninteresting.
This is accurate
What's sad is, there is very clearly love put into this game. A lot of the assets are very lovingly crafted, and it's clear that they put a lot of effort and research into getting that Southwest vibe just right. I don't know where the critical failure was in the management, because there was clearly a failure, but there was also obvious work put into it that got overwhelmed.
personally the idea that tavistock dupe kiddies who hate anything older than them can do amazingly skillful deeds as if they've lived a real life in the world doing difficult things instead of just being trained by video games to declaim everything is somewhat disinteresting.

Making a game this bad was already going too far. The critics are just matching the energy🤷🏼♀️
"too far".
This is somehow both badly written and very well said at the same time. I 100% agree with you my dude.
Completely agree. I haven't played the new SR game yet, but after hearing Jake and Falcon talk about this game, your statement sounds very accurate.

Facts! Kinda like sr2 was the perfect mix into both worlds
I mean the characters aren't rich like you're broke in the beginning?
We kept telling Volition we weren't liking what we were seeing and they were adamant it was what we wanted....even if we didn't know it yet. I'm sick of devs telling us what we want. How hard can it be to listen and study what worked?
They tried to please everyone and they tried REALLY hard to offend no one. Thats the main reason the humour and character behaviour failed so badly because they expect everyone to share the same sense of humour. It's painful
Thanks for the video. I think I would rather play this game instead of FO76.
"They tried to please everyone and they tried REALLY hard to offend no one."
This sentence of yours will be copied/pasted as the most suitable review of the next GTA game, lemme tell ya !

The gaming industry need regulating. Why should we pay full price for an unfinished product.
I kind of agree that 2 was the pinnacle. 3 was still a blast, 4 was ... well 4 was different , not really great not really bad.,

Rumor has it that's what happened, the starting project was totally scrapped, and they came up with a new turd to polish.
it's a tough call because it costs a lot of $$$ to make this game. They also scrapped another prototype I think. So it's either release this to collect money to recoup studio costs (which they did -- they've already sold 1M copies) or throw it away and lose $50M+

The problem with 4 is I feel it was meant to be a standalone DLC like Gat out of Hell but then GTA 5 got announced so they fleshed it out a little to make it a full game so it ended up being weird while it was fun it didn't feel like it should have been a full game
@@Joyful_Traitor I feel ya on that. It should've be a massive DLC for 3.
I mean 4 is still a pretty good game, but definitely very wacky
3 is the perfect balance of it all imo, it can be crazy but still has its serious moments, while also being really fun

Same. I hate the bugs but the game is fun
I think one of the biggest problems we're facing with these types of games is no one wants to make edgy jokes in games anymore. GTA V will be the last game like that with edgy comedy an over the top tropes.
Yeah I fear GTA6 could be the end of GTA
What do you consider an edgy joke?
For real they wouldnt even put a Rim Job joke in the Saints Row Reboot out of fear of "offending someone". This reboot is a joke cause it is SUCH a downgrade compared to something like Saints Row 2 or 3. This game is a perfect example of playing it WAY to safe and scared to offend anyone.

Saints Row 2 was the best version....everything was solid n the story was so driven...wish they could of picked up from there
I agree, I'm disgusted by the gaming industry and unfinished rip offs.
Bruh Saints Row been trash for years, stop cappin.
How about the characters are bad and cringey and they don't want fans of the first games and they insult the fans.
But on the bright side I'm not PISSED and will continue to play it through to the end.

you want to know why the story is so bad in the new saints row? look at the lead writers history, stuff like romantic novels and etc, only 1 has even written for another video game

No. Comes down to the publisher. Shit game studio can release a game on pc with no gate keeper.
It comes down to skill. Hire people based on skill instead of pronouns and we wouldn't have this issue.
Because they fucked it up so badly and keep coping on their socials about it
Ikr and the people that say it's good only because they haven't played The Originals
Why else do you think companies and devs keep getting away with it, making profits even when their games are pathetic.
because they want to be their own judge of the game
You are tiptoeing around the answer to your repeated question of "why". The answer why is quite simply and sadly, the culture wars in America. Companies are lost, afraid of misteps, so they capitulate to unexperienced "youth" in hopes they will avoid minefeilds. Only to create something so bland, so afraid of being anything, that it obviously fails.
It doesn't help that the devs attacked the fans after the first trailer came out for Saint row remake

Aiming acceleration/ slows while on target. These features are horrible in any game. Usually you can turn them off though.
@@bigounce4293 So far i hàve not found a way to do that. I turned off the lock on though.
Personally because of all this fear to offend people, the era of good writing in games is a thing of the past.

Interested to understand what you mean “safe”?
@@jerseydrivers8087 Should be rather obvious.
Should totally do a review on “Cult of the Lamb”
Saint Row 1 was if anything, not a GTA clone. But I wouldn't expect a gaming media outlet to actually understand videogames anyways
They should just let the series die.
bro I did all the insurance fraud missions without a ingle car on the road lol whenever i loaded it in the cars would disappear i had to do it with parked cars in a parking lot lol
