I’ll never understand the hate. Ever. It seemed like the perfect transitional step from SR1’s po-faced seriousness to 3’s gradual silliness. It didn’t give a fuck. It was a sandbox with all the cheats enabled because the devs knew they’re the most fun part of a sandbox. It made the game stand out in a crowded genre and I admired how audacious it was.
Yeah. Saints Row is it's own thing and shouldn't care so much about GTA. Saints Row 3 may have been GTA's biggest competition at the time, and it's a shame that the series after that kinda stopped..
The first one was most definitely a GTA clone. The others are fine. 3 is just plain bad, not funny, not entertaining to play, nothing. 4 refined what 3 was trying to do.
@@DragoonCenten I'm inclined to disagree. Everyone has something in GTA type of games for them. For me it's vehicles and traversing the map during playthrough. While I favor SR2 over every other game in the series, I absolutely HATED 4 after 3 for how superpower mechanicss literally rendered vehicles useless. They could have just made them unusable alltogether of left like 4 of them for scenery akin to Gat Out of Hell. Could have just called the game Prototype 3 or something.

SR2 and SR4 are my favorites personally, as they represent the extremes of the series. 2 is the grittiest and most genuinely badass game of the franchise, and 4 is generally just one of the most batshit insane games ever made, which I actually really appreciate. I share a very similar view of the series. 2 is still my favorite sandbox of all time because of how alive everything feels, 4 is a great game to just fuck around in though.
The fourth game was intended to be a dlc? That actually makes a lot of sense. Had S4 been just a DLC, I think the sense of power progression would have been better.
After playing the new saints row game, I've officially grown to appreciate saints row four including Gat out of hell. They may be ridiculous and over the top and they may seem like they "ruined" the series in a certain way but at least they're playable, interesting, really fun, and not full of annoying bugs, from what I've experienced. I love every saints row game now excluding the new one which deserves to be deleted 💀
Thing is, if it wasn't for Saints Row 4 going so overboard, we wouldn't have had a need for a reboot. SR4 broke what little meaning the SR universe had preventing any further progression. Hence the reboot. Edit: Only thing I think they couldve done was probably pull the whole, "it was all dream" script.
@@Athasin There's no fucking way SR4 had anything to do with the game we got now, The last saints game before this one could have been a 10/10 masterpiece gangster crime drama and this game would have still turned out the way it did. @@Athasin They could have done time travel and started with some Terminator references while rebooting the series to change how things turned out, possibly fucking up the timeline. What would happen if you saved Lin and she got with Donnie? What would happen if you saved Carlos and watched him grow? Saving Aisha and seeing her with Johhny. Saving Kiki and having both the twins by your side? There is so much they could have done. Not that it would have been a masterpiece, but hell the new game shows how little creativity they have. They wanted to make a new game and then used Saints row as a skin, end of story. Also, do keep in mind the new game was made by a mostly new team. With the secret ending they left a lot on the table and did not need a full reboot, if we can even call it that.
Ironically enough, GTA's now taking heat for emulating both Saints Row's zaniness and the fantastic super-criminal-slash-spy caper premise of Fast & Furious.

Yes this is what morons say to defend SR4. SR2 tried to be fun. SR4 tried to be whacky and failed because it was a lazy, derivative, vulgar and asinine piece of shit.
The fact that you used a car at all after the intro makes this even funnier because you can listen to the radio without the car at anytime playing the game.
Also the reason why SRIV was the last game, was cause it was supposed to be the last game. Agents of Mayhem was what Volition wanted to do, but that game sucked so they are now working on 5.
Yeah, I really don't get why Volition wanted to make Agents of Mayhem, it just felt like a shitty hero shooter and was basically a Saint's Row game in all but name, like what??!!
AOM had potential, but it was rushed and it had questionable marketing. Its a shame because I loved the idea behind it, but Volition just half-assed it.
SR3 & 4 Should've been called Agents of Mayhem and the Saints Row series should've continued the story of the first 2. Volition shot themselves in the foot by splitting the fanbase of one series down the middle. The should've just made two seperate series in the first place, but they wanted to cash in on Saints Row's popularity.
@@TheHulk1850 AoM is the continuation of the earth brought back ending from "Gat out of Hell". I think they wanted to return to a less crazy type of game, since Saints Row 4 was so over the top that they probably just didn't know how to continue from there.
SR4 was so much fun, I really don't understand the hate it gets. People act like SR2 was a super serious game, but it was plenty goofy and over the top, not as much as 4 obviously but it wasn't a serious game. I enjoyed both of them for what they were. I don't know, I guess making my character look like Miku Hatsune, flying around the city while listening to EDM and using the dubstep gun on everything in my path was pure fun for me.
Even though I love this game, mainly because it's my first Saints Row game, I kinda understand why some wouldn't. Maybe not fully, but I respect those who don't agree with the direction this game went; especially from the first two in the series.
Also, while it was as much of a shitshow on launch Agents of Mayhem has a much better design for a cyberpunk city. The graphics aren't realistic but the design is what a real futuristic city should look like. Volition even made sure you have a place to park your car wherever you stop, something I never cared about in open-world games with cars until I played CP2077.

This game was a blast. I'm really upset that I'm among the few that actually appreciate it because I remember playing it when I was 14 and having a fantastic time.
We don't hate the game we hate that they put this game in the same series as a Gang War based game. Infact 2 gang war based game. Hows it supposed to be a sequel when it turns absurdly to an entirely new direction. If you didn't begin with 1 then 2, I wouldn't expect any of you to understand. It's like making Star Wars and then having episode 6 aka the third release but it forgets about a rebellion and it just turns into a space adventure musical. I and others do not care how good SR3 and SR4 was or if it was bad. We just want a real continuation. Not this facade. They did agents of mayhem, and it's been clear since then that they were moving like this. And the reason why many SR fans first buy the game is in hopes for it to be a good sequel, not just a "good game". We are here for the Saints Row shit, if they wanna make something else fine. Agents of mayhem or whatever else. But when we ask for a Saints Row game we want to pay for an actual Saints Row game. SR3 is the godamn seed of this. The studio began the Sci fi bs there with a hovering ship and laser weapons. A lot of us think thats cool, but at the same time we don't care. I really be enjoying the Kanye west song power for the trailer exited for something better than SR2, only to be dissapointed. The lack of effort to impress began there. I can't even enjoy free roam like in stillwater. And most of the people like the new characters but I didn't feel the same way. The only thing about the characters was 2 hot twins and Shaundi changing to look hot. If SR3, SR4 and the stuff after was under a different franchise. I garentee it would have not got the hate it did. And it would be enjoyed. But they slap a different design on an already existing design pulling a different crowd and dragging the old crowd. And for SR4 it's really just Crackdown in the Saints Row Universe. So if you like that you will enjoy Crackdown games. Gameplay wise I mean. Like I said, if you weren't beginning from SR to SR2 then you won't get it. It's Call of Duty 1-Ghost then to Advance Warfare. Its Assassins Creed-Assassins Creed 4 to Assassins Creed Origins or whatever those games are. It went from fun games with a clear purpose to the creation team clearly not having real ideas of a sequel. Atleast Assassins Creed did make an effort. Sims be performing sequels better than Saints Row. Simply because they don't swap things around like SR series has been treated and slam a 3rd street saints logo on it. Simply to put it. We want anything after SR the third under a different name. And make Saints Row 3. None of this bs of presidency, aliens, world blowing up, world being a simulation, techno weird blue gang that does some stupid fast ability, a stupid crackdown parody unless its just an activity, and the list goes on. Especially allowing us to upgrade guns but to take the upgrades off. Story mission replay to return, crib customization to be expanded not simplified, better gang warfare, and so on. The whole idea to kill off Johnny gat but turns out he wasn't dead, was stupid. The idea to kill him off, is stupid. The fact they needed to run away from using stillwater as the game location is also stupid on their part. And idk who was responsible for those mistakes, but ik they should really just go make another franchise and not rip off Saints Row characters or style like Agents of Mayhem did. I liked playing SR3 and SR4, but I can acknowledge those 2 games and the original SR and SR2 are not alike when it comes to what games they are. Just the style of cutscenes, logo, guns and so on. Take those away, 2 are a funny gangster open city game. The other 2 are an action sci fi open city game with wacky elements and crazy cyberspace inspiration with a huge load of pop references. Now some people may like it all, heck you might be one of them. But that just means you like it all and you care less about this stuff. Which I do not relate. And obviously others don't too. The developers failed to see that, and make us anxious for SR 5. It could be a good sequel and a good game. Or just a good game and a bad sequel. Simple as. There you go.
Played the game. Though I do agree that the super power does make the campaign so easy to achieve but I wish you can turn off power so I can play a regular person with no powers and also wish the police system were seperate into two, humans and zin alien race.
You're not alone, buddy. I love this game because it just says "fuck it" and goes absolutely insane. It's flawed, I'm not gonna deny that, but it's a fun ride.
I ended up playing the games sort of back to front, so played 3 &4 first then eventually beat the first two last year for the first time. I can now see the progression they made and playing the original SR games highlighted the innocence of the series before SR3 took things into the mainstream.
Have you played the first 2 games? They went from street gangs which I liked,to selling energy drinks and shit, then to fighting aliens and being the president, then to fighting demons in hell. I just wish we could go back to where we started.
@@agarrandoviaje5425 if the President of the United States with superpowers taking over a matrix world run by aliens isn’t gangster enough, nothing is.

If you enjoy mindless hack n' slash games without any story or stakes, sure. If you're playing the game because you've enjoyed not only the nonsense from the first games, but the story and characters, it's pretty easy to understand why this game ended up being so underwhelming, and shouldn't be anything more than a DLC for the third game. Being a sequel kinda fucked up any possibility for another sequel.

Only way the next saints row game is going to be good is if its a complete remake of the original. Everyone keeps talking about the time traveling method but this would further ruin the series since that would mean saints row 3, 4 gat out of hell are still canon.
There is literally no other way to progress the series after the Earth has been destroyed and we've already gone to space and the after life. The series is dead so the only way to return fan interest would be to recapture the street feel of the earlier games; if you aren't willing to do that might as well just make a whole new franchise.

Looking back at SR3, I genuinely have no clue why, out of all the characters, Oleg ends up getting completely overlooked by Zinyak despite the fact that the only reason Zinyack invaded Earth was to collect the strongest and brightest humans which are 2 categories that Oleg actually fits into. At least this was the case in SR3, where Oleg’s intelligence can sometimes match Kinzie’s in certain instances and is also practically immune to death itself whenever the game calls for it. However, in SR4, he and Josh Birk are just casually drinking beers at a bar right after witnessing an alien invasion (instead of trying to find out what the hell happened and where everyone who had been kidnapped was taken to, like SR3 Oleg would probably do) and also apparently didn’t have the phone number of, not only his own boss, but also the president of the United States whom he worked for as one of his bodyguards

The thing I love about the Saints Row series is that it always tried to do something different with each game to keep it fresh. SR1 was similar to GTA but had its own fresh take on the gangster scene. SR2 did the same thing but took it to even greater heights. SRTT did something different, trying ti be as chaotic as possible while still being sorta normal which was a welcome change imo. SR4 took SRTT and just filled it with steroids and gave you super powers. Thing things that kept the game all together that made it amazing was it had the most loveable psychopaths in video game history
Lol. New Saints Row 2022 is the game that will ruin this series. Saints Row IV was truly a masterpiece in comparison. SRIV is literally the best superpower game on the market.
But not the best saints row game on the market, it's not even about the saints anymore like what are you doing? Saints row was a masterpiece to all of them combined. Saints row 3 is mid, 4 ranks low, and reboot the lowest. But in terms of story the reboot I'd put in front of 4's story
@@swagvegito2592 Honestly, i don't get why people like SR The Third over SR IV. Like, everything is better in IV. The game really loses me when Earth is blown up and everything we do turns into just simulations. If the rumoured 5th game comes out they need to ignore the story of 4. Have a few flashbacks of it and show out character waking up, just make all off 4 a dream. I want to get to the in-universe real world, have real stakes not just everything being a fake simulation. We need to get back to gang warfare. In 3 where the gangs eventually ends up fighting the military, that's as crazy as we need to get. Story wise in 4 it felt like nothing mattered, and killing off the Earth and so many characters wasn't cool at all. And yea the game play was fun. But I agree it dragged by the point we got later into the game.
Rumor has it that saints row IV and gat of hell will be treated like Gangstas in Space story wise which is just part of Saints in-universe product placement in saints row V.
That’s honestly where I was left at. I thought the game was just the same SteelPort but over turned by zinyak forces. I didn’t realize it was a simulated version of the city until playing the game. Wish they didn’t do that because changing time of day and returning to the ship breaks character and takes way too long to do rather than just adding cheats like the previous games. And on top of that the game should have no replay after completion seeing as the simulation got shut down to stop Zinyak. It’s like playing sr 1 seconds after the game is completed. It makes no sense where as sr2 and the third (depending on which ending) makes sense to still be playable after the story is finished.
It’s incredible, virtually everything you outlined as a problem in this video I personally saw as a positive and a reason why I liked the game and have played through it like 3 or 4 times

I’m gonna be the only one to say this but I actually enjoyed saints row 4, you can tell the developers had fun with it, some of the best music choices in video game history, memorable and badass moments, and it legitimately felt good to control the player. I believe people were too stuck on saints row being a more down to earth gta style crime game. I think if this game was released as something other than saints row with different characters, people would’ve loved it
These devs created this IP, made the deliberate choice to go with fun and over the top vs photorealistic and restrained gameplay all the way back in Saints Row 2 yet people were surprised that it ended up going full chaos mode. I'll never understand the backlash to this game, it was the only logical endpoint to the series that let you mercy kill Carlos in a fucking hotdog suit. Saints Row 2 is the best in the series and one of the best crime sandbox games ever, but SR4 is the best Matrix game ever made and legitimately the second best in the series.
The game isn't great story wise, BUT what they were able to do with the engine is pretty impressive as a cross gen title. A couple more months in the development oven would have been more than ideal for what is a game based on utter fun, absurdity and carnage. Outside of the characters/story, the fun from previous Saints Row games are still in tact. Let's be real, the core game in itself is good, but its the execution and the release of a bug riddled product that attracted a h*tstorm of negativity. They are slowly getting fixed, but I still don't think the Series is dead. Far from it. Hopefully they learn from this and take community feedback on board. Would be ideal if you were able to analyse the game on its own merits instead of following the crowd like a pathetic sheep.
@@cbgg1585 Even on its own the reboot is bad. Boring story without any stakes, characters that don't feel like gangsters, too much filler content and forced grinding and the game is far too easy.
I wonder if Saints Row V will build off of the Jane Austen cliffhanger, or go a completely different route. Either way, Saints Row 2 is in dire need of a remaster, and buying their titles will only increase the chances of one. Or when they decide they want more money.
This game was my first SR experience. I grew up playing gta and knew about sr 2 and 3 but never got the chance to play them. Eventually when I did, it was a really fun and unique experience. I had done all the gta stuff before so this was kinda like a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed the story, mainly because the script was hilarious imo. So if you just let the game do it’s thing, despite its flaws, I think it’s just fun. Hats off to them for making a game focused around fun and less on the aspects that make mainstream games really popular
They broke the fourth wall in two, smashed it in 3 and completely annihilated it in 4. SR4 was epic. If they had continued to chase GTA I don't know that we would still have the series. And I'm glad we had a game that was daring enough to try what SR4 did. If it was me SR5 would be "SR Lost in Time". You'd have to go back and reset the timeline through periods that would reference movies, like Terminator, Demolition Man, Total Recall, Jurassic Park etc. Then you could literally do whatever you want with 6. I just want a big sandbox with hilarious missions, cool characters and a good storyline. SR can either chose to be fun and creative. Or try chase what people "want". You're never going to please everyone. But I'm cool with a game that tries. This new SR is what people get for asking for them to reboot the series and make it more like 1+2. A bland, boring, repetitive, regurgitated garbled mess. Of the two options I'd take "SR Lost in Time" any day over this.
Actually, in my own humble opinion, it was SRTT that actually started the ruin of the series. No, maybe SRTT didn't kill it, but it sure as hell didn't help, either.
By far some of the most fun I've had in a long time was loading this game up, turning every cheat on, inviting a friend, and just revelling in the chaos. I love _all_ of these games, saints row two is my favorite by a long run, but I've never played one of these games and thought "man, I'm not enjoying this", even GooH had it's moments.
Can i admit something? I actually like Saints Row 4
For the love of God stop replying to this comment I beg you
@Saraph yeah
same tbh
I’ll never understand the hate. Ever. It seemed like the perfect transitional step from SR1’s po-faced seriousness to 3’s gradual silliness.
It didn’t give a fuck. It was a sandbox with all the cheats enabled because the devs knew they’re the most fun part of a sandbox. It made the game stand out in a crowded genre and I admired how audacious it was.
I played most of the game in co-op mode. Was a lot of fun
Same. I still play it time to time when im bored.
I think the REAL reason why the series was ruined is because of the people saying it was a "GTA RIPOFF" and volition listen to them.
@@sorokabeloboka8818Bruh you play a game about shooting and blowing shit up for cars? If they got rid of vehicles altogether that still would have been a complaint from guys like you so there is no way to win, even if vehicles are obsolete because of super speed they still have some interesting ones, you could really just use them if you wanted to. @The lover of your mother it was just like Crash of the Titans/Mind Over Mutans, they are a very fun game, but they have nothing to do with the original Crash games
SR2 and SR4 are my favorites personally, as they represent the extremes of the series. 2 is the grittiest and most genuinely badass game of the franchise, and 4 is generally just one of the most batshit insane games ever made, which I actually really appreciate. Excellent editing here though, for real! Dope video!

The fourth game was intended to be a dlc? That actually makes a lot of sense.
Had S4 been just a DLC, I think the sense of power progression would have been better.
It definitely overstayed it's welcome. I had a ton of fun with it until I realized it was beginning to drag on and I wanted it to end.
Yes it makes sense. I always said when Saints Row 4 were a Dlc or a game with a different title it would be a perfect game.
I believe the DLC is the spin-off mission Enter the Dominatrix. The game itself was a developed idea from that DLC.

There's a mission where you play the dlc to be in sr IV it was pretty cool honestly, game didn't save though and lost 4 hrs of playtime

@@Athasin Just because there would have been no need for a reboot if that happened doesnt mean there still wouldn't have been one. @@Athasin They could have done time travel and started with some Terminator references while rebooting the series to change how things turned out, possibly fucking up the timeline.

It was silly snce the first one.
To anyone who doesn't know, Gat Out of Hell is canon. And the canon ending of it is retcon. So next game will be a reboot
that reboot was agents of mayhem as confirmed in game its the continuation, but the next game for sure will be a franchise reboot
hopefully they use time travel once then never again
maybe travel during SR2's time and city (or a bit before TT) or just reboot the entire series anew
The series ended canonically with Saints Row the third. Saints Row 4 and Gat Out of Hell isn't canon. It's just absolute nonsense.

I want to get to the in-universe real world, have real stakes not just everything being a fake simulation. We need to get back to gang warfare. In 3 where the gangs eventually ends up fighting the military, that's as crazy as we need to get.
